Passing Lamps...Why?
Squidley replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wally, Lots of good info, and a few rants here on this thread. I believe that they are called passing lights as they are supposed to be used in conjunction with your high beams. When you go to pass another vehicle many time folks will flash their brights to let the driver know he is about to be passed. Myself, reguardless of the name, I call them driving lights. I have had additional "Driving Lights" on every Venture I have owned. For me it was a matter of need as I wanted more lighting up front as I left for work at 5am and it was always dark out. I lived in a heavily deer populated area and wanted all the extra fwd lighting I could get. My lights are always angled just slightly off to either side and properly aimed from maximum illumination. It also serves as more lights to be seen in the daytime by drivers. I have mine set up in a triangular fashion as it catched the eye a lot faster. It's all about being seen or seeing a problem before it arises. I know it's been said about legality of it all with running 3 lights, but I'm not going to give some nimrod the excuse of "I didn't see him" as they bring my dead body to my spouse. I have NEVER been pulled over by any LEO for running with my "Driving Lights" and high beam on -
Dennis has it right there, thats all the difference from the standard to the "S" model. Myself for the extra $500 I would go with gthe "S" as I like the chrome forks better.

John, The part # on Rick's Motorsports page is 27-21412H for 159.95. It states for an '05 but ALL the RSV's are the same exact thing. I hope this isn't a deal where we are being duped as Gunboat and I just installed Buckeye stators on our bikes, his '99 and my '89. I will say though that mine is charging very nicely and even with Lonna's heated pants it keeps up very well. Gunboats bike the same way too as his lights are MUCH brighter with his new stator on.

Measure up your trunk in halves both vertically and horizontally. Take measurements of the holes on the rack and place masking tape on the corrisponding spots on the trunk lid where you want the rack to sit. Place the rack on and trace around the outside of the holes. measure in the circle being exact as you can be. Drill a bit oversized hole for some clearance and remove the tape. Install the harware and tighten it down, but not reefing it. The hardest part is drilling into a perfectly good lid, once you do it it's no problem. ...or you can ride it to Houston and I'll install it for you free!

Ron, Thank you for your sacrifise, I was in your same position in 1990 at the beinning of the 1st gulf war with my Fiance. It was a very hard time for her as the technology was nowheres near what it is these days with email and web cams. I hope you can get her involved with the ombudsman (if thats even what they call it these days) and help her to connect weith other wives, she'll need that support net. Please do have her join up here, we will do what we can to help ease this burden that you 2 will face. All the best to you soldier, you will be in our thoughts and prayers for a safe return home and retirement.

FWIW.... I have never had an issue with the hydraulics on mine, but thats just me. I will tell you that all the jacks are made in China so it's a crapshoot. I'd be willing to bet that if you did have problems and took it back to Sears they would probably make it right. Ponch has one of the yellow ones, and it's nice, but the handle is right in the way. It might be able to be removed, but if not that would be a PITA to work around.

Bubber, From what I have heard the Larin has a shorter platform length. If you have a Carbon One lift adapter it doesn't fit real good. I would go with the Craftsman myself, I actually have 2 of them.
