  1. Loewer in Alex has an 06 for sale they would let you test ride to get a comparison or something to gauge by.
  2. Too hot and humid in the south to make it enjoyable for me. Some folks may like it, my comfort zone is 50 - 90 degrees. God bless those that find it enjoyable.
  3. Our riding season is on hold too, 97 degrees today and no relief in sight.
  4. To the original post: depends on traffic. If moderate traffic: yes; little to no traffic: probably not.
  5. I was in Austin this week and saw an old Voyager (late 90's, maybe) with a chopped tinted windshield, no trunk, and with a flat black paint job. At first glance I wondered what it was. Didn't get to see it up close, just in traffic, but a unique looking bike. Most have to much bling, but in this case less was more. Sorry no pics.
  6. My '06 was very loud going up thru the gears. After the I basket it substantially got quieter especially going up thru the gears and at constant speeds. It does whine when down shifting if you get the rpm's up, but tolerable. I felt the same as you and now it's not an issue. I also tried motorkote, in my opinion it's a waste of money. On scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the worse) I'd say 9 before and 3 afterwards w/I basket. If you really like the bike I would definitely spend the money on the I basket. Keep in mind some have gone thru several before finding one that didn't whine. After 10k miles on my only I basket I'm still content with it.
  7. They say the blended fuel will slowly dissolve the rubber fuel line.
  8. Gives it a whole different look, very sharp.
  9. DarrinGT put one on his....look at the rstd tech forum under "those that have put a fairing on a rstd".
  10. I have the same question except mine is the rstd. I do know hoppe makes one specifically for the rstd, plain $700 or with the radio for around $1600.
  11. I'll try that the next time, seems I usually do things the hard way.
  12. I have both...if you go with the tall clearview I would not get the recurve. It holds moisture right in your line of sight (fog). It does do good job of protecting you, but due to it being wider and taller it feels like your pushing a sheet of plywood down the road. If you ride around 60-65 mph it wasn't an issue, but at 70-75 it was to me. I recommend the vent. Some have also complained about there customer service....I remember it takes awhile to get your order. I ended up having it cut down to bout 16". I also have the standard size cee Bailey. On the taller one I couldn't say. On their shipping, I got it within a week. The down size with the bailey is you'll still get the affects from a windy day coming around the sides more so than the cleaview, but the taller one should knock the wind off your helmet. I'm leaning towards the hoppe fairing next with the wind deflectors for this winter, others say it provides better wind protection than our standard windshields. Hope this helps...jc
  13. You have to take the lower fairings off, two bolts in the front and one in the rear, there also plastic tab at center connecting the two halves. Then unbolt the filter housing and loosen the hose clamp to slid the filter housing off. The remove the screws to separate the filter housing. Then there's some screws securing the filter to the housing.
  14. Here in La i've been told the store owner gets a tax break on the ethanol. I've been told by our local bulk plant the 10% blend will eat up a paper filter and its corrosive. As far as preventive maintenance goes, I'm changing my fuel filter annually which some are already doing. And watch for deteriorating fuel lines. I think most will agree one can expect to loose 2-5 mpg.
  15. Thnking of adding the sportech fairing to my RSTD. For those that have added one to a RSTD I have some questions. 1) Is there any noticeable difference in wind protection at interstate speeds, 70+ mph. 2) After going through the effort and expense would you recommend it or just look for another mc like the RSV. 3) I like the looks of the sporttech, but like most they only have a mounting bracket for the Roadstar. Will the roadstar bracket work with the RSTD? And in general, those that have done it the pros and cons, tks.
  16. If it's any comparison to the rt1200r, I wasn't impressed.
  17. I tried the laminar lip and it does to some degree work, on a tall shield you have to look thru it and didn't work for me. The taller cee Bailey may work better, I have their 19" (stock height) and really like it. I still feel air hitting the top of my helmet, and I imagine another 2" I couldn't. The plus side is it's 4" narrower than the cleaview which is a killer on mpg and wind noise. The only thing I haven't tried was replacing the lowers (other than the ones by clearview). Let us know they work out.
  18. I did and looking at the original post he did to.
  19. I have (in a box) the large clear view w/vent and now I have the standard 19" w/out the vent and really couldn't tell any noticeable difference. I also had the large clearview cut down to about 16" and still not much difference. I think that yamaha has the wind dynamics about as good as the rstd can be on a calm day. A windy day is another story and maybe all mc's are that way. The one flaw in design is the wind comes over the lower fairing and around the lowers and funnels up along side the fuel tank into the operator creating some buffeting. Curious to see if traditional lowers help.
  20. Like you I worked on several solutions as you found...I figured out the stock windshield height worked best, a vest to ward off the wind hitting my chest and after several helmets I liked the standard 3/4 open face the best w/no sun visor. I took all the contraptions off my fuel tank to clean it up...I adjust my speed to make riding more enjoyable when it's windy. I couldn't view the picture you posted...I'd like to ride a rsv and see how it compares to the rstd.
  21. Off the subject, what kind of fuel mileage are ya getting on blended fuel on the gw?
  22. That's it, I wasn't sure what it represented. Thanks
  23. I've seen on some mc club bikes a braided line off the left or right hand grip that almost touches the ground. Looks like a long leather pony tail....what's the purpose if one?
  24. There was a graph posted under rpm's in the rstd tech section that indicated 70 mph at appr. 3300 rpm's in 5th and 4000 rpm's in 4th, give or take.
  25. That's about what my rear pads looked like with 27k miles on them. I put on a set of the HH's last week and wow what a difference in stopping power. To me the HH's have alot more grab to them, or maybe its just because they're new.
