  1. In about a week, we will be leaving California and moving to New Mexico. I have been here in California for 38 years. Things are just getting to expensive and when you are on fixed income, you got to do what you have to do. Also the school system here is getting pretty bad. They are letting go of a bunch of teachers and the class room size to way to large for the kids to get a decent education. The people here are in a hurry to get no where. We will be living in a town called Polvadera which is 7 miles north of Socorro. My brother lives in Albuquerque and works in Socorro. He works like 2 to 4 days a month (E.R.Doctor) and has a 2nd gen venture (2005). So hope fully we will be riding as much as we can. As long as we keep the wives happy. They don't ride. My wife has ridden with me once and I still have imprints from her nails in my side. And that was last year. We have been there twice and both the kids and the wife love it there. I think the education will be better for the kids there than it would be here. We already have a house there on 1/2 acre and across the irigation ditch is 10 acres and a couple of horses. And the best part...........no rent. So my time will be spent working with the horses and keeping the place up. And of course some m/c riding. My cousin lives in Santa Fe and is the manager for the HD there. Do not fret, I don't plan on buying one. I am happy with my 89 VR. So with that I will say good night and happy roads to every one. Bill
  2. Hi Ventureohio, That was me. Wshen they shipped them there were plastic rings and one diaphram. That was before the group buy. But through e-mails they made every thing right. Good company to work with. Instaled and doing good.
  3. Don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but, after reading it, it reminded me of this site and the people that are on this site. That the people here go out of their way to help people with their problems no matter how big or small. This is a good read for Memorial Day. I hope everyone had a good Holiday As a veteran, please read this, especially today under the conditions we are living On Memorial Day.... As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open. The old man was looking at the engine I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away. I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm, walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, 'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.' And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot. I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.' He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him. The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman. When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring=2 0and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?' He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal . He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card. He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket.. We all shook hands all around again and I said my goodbye's to his wife. I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off. For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name....... 'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.' http://www.cmohs..org/ I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence. Remember, OLD men like him gave you FREEDOM for America . Thanks to those who served...& those who supported them. America is not at war. The U.S.. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them! Remember , Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.
  4. Jack, Showed the wife pic's your garage and she said that I can not hang around you because you are a bad influence.LOL
  5. Hello all, I have a friend that has a 2005 RSTD. I have been trying to get him on to this site but he has a busy schedule. He was wondering what kind of mufflers he can run with out hurting the engine. He wants to remove the bags and doesn't like the way the bubs stick out there toward the rear tire. He wants something shorter.Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
  6. When installing the diaphragms where they go on the slider, there is a little bead the fits in the grove of the 2 rings. just as there is a bead that fit into the carb where the tab fits in to. Here is a link. Hope this helps Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement! ( 1 2 3 ... Last Page)
  7. Vic. Glad that you are ok. Was reading in the Sun paper that a while back a motorcyclist hit some wild boares on Hwy.101. Got hurt pretty bad. He sued Cal Trans or the county because he proved that they knew of the problem and did nothing to make it safer. He won $1.8 mil.
  8. Just bought a set from them a couple of weeks ago. When I received my order, there was only one diaphragm in the box along with 4 plastic rings. E-mailed them with fact that they had only put one in. Problem rectified. They sent the remaining 3 the next day and got them within a week. They are good quality and look and feel as the stock. No problems putting them on. Followed the write up by Earl. I did lower the needle down. and the bike idles smooth runs nice. The company is good to work with.
  9. Here is a new use for carb cleaner. don't know if this will work.
  10. Hay Earl, Don't forget to put your plugs back on. Nice job.
  11. Earl, When you get your solenoid fixed and still doesn't turn over when you hit the start button, could be the problem. On my VtX 1800 I had the same problem, except that I was not near home. Used a quarter to jump across the 2 studs sticking out of the solenoid with the key on and it started. Turned out that the button was the problem. Puled it apart and cleaned the contacts and soldered a little on the nubs and filed it down so as not to bind in the switch, added some electric greese, it cured the problem. Did the same on the brake switch for the 89 VR. and then replaced the spring. Hope this helps a little. Bill
  12. Here is another link to another forum. I ran a ct on my 1800 vtx and loved it. In the rain I had no problems coming to a stop. No sliding at all.The tire just grabbed. The slow turn around was different, but once you got use to it , no problem. I have heard that it makes the front tire last a bit longer too. Ride safe. Riding on the Darkside
  13. Well, lets see if this works. Carver
  14. Hope this comes out. GermanTechnology.wmv

  16. When I followed the ground wire from the battery. it lead to the engine right next to the water pump and just above it.. There was not a second wire coming from the neg side, just the one. So then I will run a second ground to the frame then.
  17. So I should run a second ground from the battery or where it connects to the engine to the frame???
  18. Condor came over to day and I now have the new cables to install. I just finished the positive cable and will do the negative cable tomorrow. Taking my time to install as it suppose to rain the entire week. The negative cable is hooked to the engine. Is there another cable to the frame and if so where? as per GeorgeS...(Be sure you still have the Extra #12 ground Wire from the Neg Bat Cable to the Frame . Neg, post to a Frame Ground. Be sure Engine case, and Frame are at same Ground level.) I have only been able to find the neg cable from the battery to engine. As soon as I get the neg on and get it fired up i will try to see what my stator is putting out. And then go from there. Thanks
  19. Thanks GeorgeS, Condor was here to day to help out. He mentioned about the battery cables being to small and going to a larger cable( fatter). Will try that and also the other items that you mentioned and some of the other things that other members have suggested. Will keep you posted as to results. Thanks
  20. Hello, I have a 1989 venture, 87,000 miles. Bought it couple of months ago. Noticed when I apply brakes, the volt meter drops down almost to the yellow line. When I release, it comes back up past 12. It had trailer wiring on it which I removed thinking that was the problem. Gauge still drops down. Pulled the connector for the rear tail lights and turn signals and applied brakes and still drops down. Disconnected foot brake switch and applied front brake, with connector to rear lights still disconnected and needle still drops. Is it possible that the switches are bad and causing the drop in voltage when I apply the brakes? Thanks for the responses in advance. Ya'll have a good Holiday and a Happy New Year.
  21. I have a 89 Venture Royale, 86,000 miles on her. Just bought it 3 weeks ago. I do not have a manual as of yet. Would like to change the wires due to the fact that one of them has electrical tape around the plug. Do I need to pull the faring off to do this. It also looks like I have to pull the seat to get to the rear plugs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
