  1. My 06 RVS has never had anything else but 10% ethanol mixed regular 87 gas. Nor has any of my gas powered stuff had anything else but -all without any problems. That is because there are no options. If your not aware of 85% ethanol gas be careful not to put that in. You will have a problem with 85%. I have never had any gas related problems. I get 41+ mpg consistently with mixed driving better with just highway. I do use SeaFoam from time to time but mostly with the winter storage. Never have any problems with the 2-3 month winter storage time. Your short time in Illinois will have no adverse affect on your bike unless you get some watered gas. But the brand named stuff from stations that look modern will be fine. Fortunately, Springfield keeps the prices down for all the politicians so you won't get ripped as bad as Chicago area folks. Have a good trip and don't worry about the gas.
  2. First step would be to check if the battery has a full charge with a volt meter. Assuming it does not then the battery is likely to have run its life out. The next question is your battery charging when the bike is running. My bike had a bad stator that had to be replaced (under warranty) which was the reason my battery failed last year. I replaced the battery with a Deka battery but would not keep full charge because the stator was bad. I ultimately found the answer by attaching a Battery Bug meter which showed the lack of charging to the battery. Hopefully, only your battery needs replacing but don't overlook the charging components of the bike. I to use a battery tender which is what made me suspicious because after a ride it would take the tender all night plus to recharge the battery.

    gas

Take the cost difference between premium and regular and buy some safety chrome. Your owners manual tells you to run regular 87. Mine has never had anything but regular from day one and runs great. Stop wasting
  4. I have the bug on what was a new battery for one year now. Bug reading started at 100% gradually decreased to the current 81% and seems to be holding for the past several months. I think the key numbers to watch are when the bike is running the bug should read 14+ v telling you the battery is charging. Plus when the bike sits overnight the bug should be reading a fully charged battery of 12v something. When these numbers are less, there is trouble. Otherwise you are good to go. The reason I got the bug last year was due to what I thought was a dying battery which turned out to be a bad stator. The bug showed the electrical consequences of a bad stator on a new battery. I could literally watch the battery discharge while driving with the bugs alarms going off. I love my bug
  5. I love my seat too!!!!!!!!!!! I had my seat Butlerized 3 years ago. Great Mod Thanks Rick
  6. If you enjoy bald eagles you will want to check the link below. It will take you to a 24/7 live camera feed of 3 baby eagles being cared for by their parents with sound. The nest is by a fish hatchery in Decorah, Iowa. This has become my screen saver. Very cool. Enjoy! http://sportsmansparadiseonline.com/Decorah_Bald_Eagle_Nest.html
  7. I would hope that Polaris will update the Indian design at least on some models. I for one don't really like the sail Indian calls a fender. I think part of the problem with Indian's failure to resurrect is people are tired of the same old look on every model.
  8. I am very happy to hear Yamaha is repairing your bike under the warranty. It sounded like it took a long time for Yamaha to make that decision.

    Risers

Risers will help reduce your arm shoulder reach and lower your arm hold position but I don't believe it will make your trike turn any easier. The reason a bike will turn easy is the lean initiated by counter steering which you don't have on your trike. If you have short arms like I do and want to lower the shoulder arm hold then risers are the way to go.
  10. I look at this a little different. Because of the high gas prices ($3.89/ - $3.95/ today) I will have to use the bike more for everything. Errands - Shopping - Joy Rides If I am burning fuel it will be with the high miles/gallon vehicle - aka my bike
  11. Depends on how old the AC unit is.... I would look on the unit for a plague, near the recharging ports, which should tell what your unit takes...
  12. Given the high end load you are likely to put on your tires and the predisposition for Avon's sidewalls to break down (crack) I would not pick Avon tires. The track record for Avon's and Metzler's to degrade would be enough for me to reject them. I would not care if they had the best grip over all others the fact is, for whatever the reason, there is a problem in manufacturing which is why they are frequently replaced by the manufacturer. For as much as these tires cost and last, I want a tire with a track record for dependability , performance and longevity. Not one that works great for the first 2-4000 miles then degrades for no apparent reason.
  13. Your seats are definitely a big . Just remember you now have safety seats to go with all the safety chrome. After all its only Great job
  14. The first time I hit the right RPMs at launch and through the gears I was amazed. You just need to learn the technique of revving the engine at launch or down shift at cruising speed to hit the power band.
  15. So this could mean that the "Milwaukee Iron" will be a metric cruise. Everything worked out really well for Chrysler when Mercedes bought them to improve there cash position. How long will this take for BMW to follow the same plan.
  16. The link below should take you to the 10 most expensive bikes in the world. At least that is the title of the article. I thought it was interesting that from $90,000-$300,000+ each bike would only be good for a short ride if that. None of them lets me carry any stuff. Some of the bikes reminds me of one of my favorite thoughts - Just because you can build something does not mean that you should. http://motorcycles.about.com/od/buyingamotorcycle/tp/The-10-Most-Expensive-Motorcycles-in-the-World.htm
  17. So a 1%er is any motorcycle gang rather than a gang of its own. So does these mean that only 1 percent of the motorcycle community is affiliated with an illicit gang activity? Sorry for the questions but this is something that I have never been exposed to other than whats on TV.
  18. So what patch or insignia identifies a 1%er when you see one? How do you identify a 1%er. Is this the same as a Hells Angel or Outlaw? Or are 1%ers different from Hells Angels etc?
  19. I bet by this time next year we will be thinking $15/quart was cheap.
  20. I have not driven the Vulcan but I have compared the two side by side at a local dealer. My opinion is the overall fit and finish is much better on the Yamaha than the Kawi. I really do not like the crackled black paint on the Vulcan motor or the lack of safety chrome touches that comes with the Stratoliner. My vote is for the Yamaha because of the fit and finish.
  21. I have the Yamaha extend coverage on an 01 V Star Custom which paid for some repairs within the period. As far as the RSV 5 year I have a two warranty repairs with no problems.
  22. Assuming your tire date stamp is 2010 sometime, apparently Avon has not fixed the defect in their manufacturing process. Avon has had a lot of crack defects for quite sometime. I would recommend checking to see if your dealer would change the brand to something else when they replace them. Your Avon track record is 100% failure rate. I would try to get replacement Dunlop E3s instead. Just my .
  23. We should probably buy a case of oil now for future oil changes. The synthetic oil that I use was increased $2.95/quart compared to last year at this time. Here we go again 1980-1990 all over again.
  24. I tried to buy a front one last August and could not. Always out of stock or backordered. So I called Michelin because I wanted to match the Commander already on the rear and was told that Commanders were out of production. So I replaced my front with Dunlop E3s. So I now have Commander on the rear and E3s on the front since last Sept. I have noticed that I like how the E3s handle will replace my rear with E3s when time. Big for Dunlop E3's
