  1. To answer the rim size question the bead area is the area in question. On car tire beads vs the beads on a mc the shape of the bead differs just like the shape of a tube type bead vs a tubeless bead differs. Im loving how you think that you have convinced yourselves that the tire companies are screwing you. If thats your argument to justify doing something purely insane go ahead but dont try to rope others into the idea that this is a good idea. Its dangerous. Im also loving how you think you are discrediting the professionals saying that even thought we do this day in and dayout we still know nothing. Just curious what color the sky is in your world. For all the searching I did I only found this guy on the wing and everything else is based on what he wrote. So just because he did it its right? Apparently there isnt much info supporting car tires on bikes either. You know in in the tire business but so is my Father for 48 years. About 20 years ago he was called to be a witness as a Tire professional ( Apparently the courts reguard us as expert witnesses). The case was just this, the case was against an insurance company by a bike rider who used a car tire. Claim was denied and he wanted paid. the only question he was asked was if the tire in question was a car tire. He answered yes and was excused. Crash wasnt for the tire but the case was dismissed. Guy got nothing. People use your brains and use the right tires for safety and never mind the paranoia of tire companies supposedly screwing us. We face enough dangers, why add to them!
  2. As much an Avon fan I am if it was mine and your rear is fairly new I would put the Commander on. I prefer to match. Either is fine though. Just dont use a car tire!!! LOL
  3. Im sure there has been and Im sure you can find that on the net too but the one thing Im sure of is this crowd wont tell you about it. They only want to state the few sources that prove they are right. I think I may need to do a little research on this case.
  4. It makes us alot more of a professional than someone who is shooting from the hip. Its like this, We make it a point of researching and talking to the manufactures as it is our ass on the line. If I sell you a product that is wrong or dangerous and that product fails guess who is liable? You got it, us therefore it is our job to know what we are talking about not only for safety but to protect our livelyhoods. Im the one who gets sued so yes we make it a point of knowing our stuff. Is that good enough. Thats why we have the access to all the manufacturers that you may not be about to get to easily. If I didnt know all this I would long since have been out of business. I regularly attend seminars and trainings just for this purpose.
  5. I saw that too. He didnt make it
  6. I agree with Salty, Lets see the facts. Also I would be interested in finding out what you do for a career so we can see why you know more than the professionals. You seem to question them, Myself included, as having no clue.
  7. Yeah!! I second that!
  8. FLB im glad you know so much about tires. What do you do for a living?. Well I do this for a living and on a car radial and bias on different axels it is ok but not recommended and not dangerous but will DEFINITELY affect handling! We are not however talking about cars. Find me one real bike source that tells you this is ok. Im talking Bike makers, Tire makers and real mechanics. Im not talking about some guru who did it on his and that makes it ok. If you want to play with you life go ahead but dont give bad advice that could result in a member getting hurt based on it worked for me. Members before you think of doing this please go the the websites on the tire and bike builders and you will se this is just a bad idea. FLB I wish you luck with your car tire.
  9. Just because one guy does it doesnt mean its the right thing to do. If he jumped off a cliff would you do it to? I hope your not basing your reasoning on this guy getting lucky so far. Never mind the car tire thing, just the fact you are mixing bias and radials is far from recommended by the guys who design the bikes and tires. People I strongly recommend that you follow the warnings of the bike builders and tire builders. All that information is well documented at your dealers and on the tire builders websites. They spend millions to find out this information. Dont base it on a few rogue people who do whatever and get lucky.
  10. I would suggest calling the dealer to ask and tell me what they say. I already know tha answer but the the big thing is you insurance co. I asked my insurance agent and I was told that it was not a safe mod and a unappropriate application. If I made it by some chance through the inspection, if he was the insurer he would bounce the claim based on that and believe me they can and I have seen it in other tire applications on things like trailers using car tires. Besides being a dangerous misapplication and the fact that they make MC application tires for a reason why would you take a chance. Hey you could ride it and get lucky but what if that luck comes to an end. I know I dont want to find out. Fact is, is it worth getting hurt over?
  11. I hope everyone will listen to reason and not jump on this band wagon. Just a real bad and dangerous Idea.
  12. Keep in mind with the Oddessy you cant just use a regular battery tender. It must have charge at a 6amp rate or your battery wont charge. I got a Oddessey Ultimizer tneder to use on my Odessey and it works great. My regular tender didnt work right for that as it only tends at 2A
  13. Some people swear by the Metzlers yet even the newer ones keep having the same exact defect. You would at least think they would fix the problem or pull the tire from the market so people dont get hurt. I use the Avon for this reason.
  14. You can use car charger for now.
  15. I have the Odessey and its great. I posted in another thread this information. The Regular battery tender does not provide enough amps to tend this battery. 2 amps is not enough. Odessey makes a tender for their own batteries and it tends at 6 amps and monitors it. Works great!
  16. Ok here is what I have found. - The other day I recieved my new Odessey charger. My battery came to life. I had been using a Battery tender but now know that it was not sufficient to charge it. Odessey wants the battery charged at 6A. I read in the manuel that it charges the battery up to a full charge of I believe 14.6 volts. That number may be off a little but I will attach the link for the charger when I find it. Basicly what Im saying is the standard trickle charge is nowhere enough to to meet the requirements of this battery. Battery is a great battery but needs special care. The bike will chage it right during riding. As for the age this battery has like a 8 year warranty so I would get a car charger or just buy one like I did with the quick disconnect and you will see the difference. Add: The 14.6 volts is wrong. That number is what the batteries are charged to but not the At rest volts. http://www.batteryweb.com/odyssey-ultimizer-detail-OMAX-6A-1B.htm http://www.batteryweb.com/odyssey-detail-PC680-motorcycles.htm http://www.batteryweb.com/pdf/Odyssey-Technical-Manual.pdf The last link is for all the Warranty information and techincal info on all the products BTW I just ordered an Odessey for my truck and the specs far outperform any other AGM and make the stock battery just look silly!
  17. Nice price but if Im right you wont be able to put on your lower fork deflectors. You know those plastic triangle shields. On the Venture version there should be a pair of small square blocks on the bottom that have two screw holes each. If they are not there then that bar is for the RSTD and you will have to keep the defectors off.
  18. Only thing you are gonna have to worry about is if you have a plastic HL it may run too hot. I had one in my Stock HL on my 2nd Gen I had the piaa. When I changed to the Adjure HL that is plastic it told me not to use the high power as it builds too much heat. didnt matter as the Adjure gave better light direction. Point is be careful if you have a plastic HL.
  19. Yup! Fuel pump.
  20. On the battery price for the oddessy (Which I wholeheartedly agree with as the best) check with Condor (pc680 on first Gen) He was doing a group buy a few months ago so he may have a connection to get it the cheapest as he I think is set up direct.
  21. Ill let you know. I should have gotten it a while ago but I didnt listen. Actually Don said a while ago. I was really suprised that it was that cheap too or I would have gotten it long ago. Damn Stubborn Scot I am!
  22. True but Odessey sells a tender of their own for the AGM that tends at 6 amp. I ordered one today. Aparrently the regualr tenders dont supply enough amps for this type of battery. See if this works better, It should. http://www.batteryweb.com/odyssey-ultimizer-detail-OMAX-6A-1B.htm
  23. Hey Kit, I hear you brother. Scary thing is that no matter how aware you are you can never see everything and if you see it can you get out of the way? Life is full of chances and poeple play lotto, gamble, and do all kinds of other things. I want to enjoy my time here. Get out on the Bike, Fish off the boat and be alive. Took a little while but I shook off the dust. Maybe it was all the Guinness that flushed it all out! LOL Scotty
  24. If you have the Odessy and use the battery tender I think there is the problem. Im having the same issue and I think it was Don that posted up a little while ago about needing the right charger for the AGM batteries. I only get luck with a car charger. Tender dont seem to have the kick to handle it. It is probably just the combination. Im ordering a Oddessy charger today.
