  1. I done know how handy you are but if you have a bench grinder that you can change the wheels to polishing wheels you can do it yourself. Biggest thing is the sanding. You must sand off the clear coat and get it smooth. then polish it in various stages of Rouge. I didnt even disassemble my forks to to even though I did take them off the bike. You just have to be careful not to build up too much heat and hurt the seals. I did this to both my bikes and have not issues. I recommend a good dremel tool to get in all the nooks and crannies that are still rough cast. on the upper tins they are Stainless and I had them set out to polish. I was gonna have them chromed but the chroming shop told me to just polished them as they look shiny as chrome and without special prep the chrome would not sitck proper anyway. Actually you cant tell the difference.
  2. I have a pretty neat one that is really a half cover. Its really compact and covers the fairing seats and trunk. Real nice if you need to leave it out in the rain. Keeps the seat and handlebars dry and very nice to travel. I dont need a full cover as I keep it in the garage but protects is on the road. http://shopmotorcycleonlinestore.com/productdetail.htm?productId=5989447&browse=100401&shopBy=6792&catalogId=1159
  3. I agree. The airhorns teamed with the headlight modulator has gotten the attention of many a few that would have hurt me. I use the Rivco horns as it makes the side of the bike a little cleaner and they mount underneath the swingarm but any of them are a must do mod on these bikes!!!
  4. I was thinking the same thing about Bill!!! LOL
  5. Great filter but make sure you dont over oil them.
  6. Remember Goose - No good deed goes unpunished!! LOL
  7. If you think we may be a little under power this is what we need next!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFGy-A68_vY&feature=related]YouTube - HERE FOR BRAYTON - Voodoo Racing's James Kane is the stunt rider of the Y2K Torque Bonus 250 MPH Turbine Jet Bike[/ame]
  8. Im gonna step out on a limb here. I say 2 new touring bikes. New Venture will a throw back to the older Venture to compete with the Wing and have the 1700 v4. I see a new touring bike that will be to compete with the Ultra based on the Stratoliner with full fairing and such. One can dream cant we?
  9. That wouldnt be that new cage rocket system would it?
  10. Why not just polish the lower forks and tins. Save alot of money and you need to really look to tell the difference. I polished my own forks and had the SS tins polished for about 125. All it took was my time and gave me a nice winter project. Look at my gallery and you will see.
  11. Not that Im supporting not wearing helmets but I know a few dont wear and have been looking for a headset that will work with our bikes. Check this out. They have alot of other stuff like Bluetooth and more but check this out. I got this from a friend of mine who is a new Venture rider. http://www.armoredrider.com/mod/category/id_ctg/59
  12. Great choices and I second the Ice Cream thing!!!
  13. Gerald if you want PM me you address and I will throw a few in an envelope if you need them.
  14. Which ones. 404s not known for blowouts but I experienced strange cuppping and some felt the wear was quick. Some others like them quite a bit. Elite 3s seem to be doing good now that the sizing for the RSV is available.
  15. If it keeps leaking you may need to replace the rubber grommet in the stem. Let me know and I ll drop a few in an envelope for you. You are talking about the metal stem right?
  16. Rick how would the mic quiet mount if you are using Kyryakyn grips?
  17. Thats some really nice work. Definitely look into making more of those extenders. You will make a lot of wives very happy on here!!!
  18. Huummmm! Those Passenger bags are pretty nice! Gonna need to do a little thinking.
  19. Age of a tire is a tough thing but I really dont think in the metzler is the big issue. All depends on what you consider old. In all types of tires there is a certain amount of warehousing. At least in the car tire manufactuing they will build one run of a model of tire and when they have built the fill for the run they shut down the mold and resetup for the next size. They are not building all the tires of all sizes at all times. Maybe make a 100k of one size and then warehouse. Not uncommon to see tires 1 1/2 old in certain sizes. Warehouse conditions are carefully monitered though. Not saying age cant be a factor because it can and if it goes to a store that maybe isnt so monitered and sits there you definitely can get issues but I cant see how if they all do this we see so much issue with one brand over another. Just adding to this you can tell when the tire is built by looking at the last 4 numbers of the serial number. Lets say the last 4 numbers are 2806. That means it was built in the 28th week of 2006.
  20. I run the Avons and am VERY happy with them as are most of the Guys on the 2nd Gens. I experienced cupping and uneven wear with the Dunlop 404s but still not a terrible tire. That was the original tire on my bike. Freebird used the Mich Commanders and so did Squid. Both seemed happy with them. I know Squid prefers the Avons in comparision and Freebird is currently trying the Avons and he can give you a good comparison. As far as the Metzlers there have been alot of dangerous failures on them. Too many to be coinsidence so it may be a good Idea to strike them off the list to be safe. I also have heard good things on the Elite 3s. There are a few on here that have recently put them on the RSV and Im sure they will chime in. My personal choice is the Avon in which I am Happy.
  21. I jut put the short Cee Baileys on mine and I love it. Still protects from the wind but you get more air and I live being able to look over it without the top of the screen in the way. It is very well made and I got mine with the tint. Not too dark. Ill try to snap a pic or two later.
  22. Be careful! Some sirius units are 12V and some are 5v. If you use the plug in and and install a lighter adapter in the fairing you can use ditect 12 v. DONT CUT OFF THE END! The other solution is to buy the proper direct wiring unit that will allow for 5v or 12v to install inside the fairing. Only the proper cable will plug into your unit. Applying 12v directily to a 5 v unit will damage it. This is what I use on my bike and Truck. http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-vehicle-power-hardwire-kit-p-4438.html
  23. Been there, Done that. There are two kinds of VRs. Ones that have dropped or almost dropped it and those that have lied about it!!! Trikes excepted.
  24. Nope. The nuts are the same here. 10 MM one on each side just behind the tank underneath. That is if its a 2nd Gen (99-08)
