1. Pull the side cover off and look at clutch. You should be able to tell a lot once you have it off. 1. If clutch friction pads are shot the oil will stink and smell like it is burnt. 2. If the clutch pads are not shot check the movement or lack of movement in the slave cylinder. 3. Before you go crazy and worry yourself over this just take the side cover off. Just my opinion! My experence in a parking lot across town bunrt the clutch slap up. As soon as I pulled the side cover I found that without a doubt I needed a new clutch. Hope you dont let this ruin your vacation, new clutch is not hard even for the novice! Especially with all the help you get here.
2. Possible light blown!
3. Rick, Sorry to hear that you scratched that helment. Glad your not hurt any worse for the wear. Guess you will be sleeping in the lazy boy for a few weeks with the cracked ribs! That hurts me just thinking about them. My friend you take care make sure you get the breathing exercise so your lungs do not let fluid build up or phenoma set in. Get well and hope to see you soon. Brian & Sherrie Lee AKA Cowboy.
4. Rick, What model Infinity Speakers & are they marine grade? Have you added an amp? Just been thinking on the idea for this winters project and not sure what direction Iam going to go with. Thanks Brian
5. Mike, Sounds great! If you are over this way give me a call. I work out of the house so I am usally here and can get away for a ride. Glad to know someone else likes the area and knows some of the roads around. Sounds like you know the roads up around Erwin, TN. What a great area, weather it is the Interstate or State Hwy or County Road. I don't think you can go wrong in these Hills. Give us a shout sometime we would love to ride. Brian & Sherrie Lee
6. Randy, I will try and let you know next time. You know how it is trying to plan, when the weather is right you just need to ride. Maybe I can see about a camping / weekend or weekday ride. The Blue Ridge Campground @ Curso, NC HWY 256 is a great place to meet and ride from. Brian
7. Mike, Does Hwy281 Between Tuckasegee, NC & Lake Toxaway, NC have a stretch that is dirt? Just wondering if that is the road I was thinking about. Seems that I thought it was dirt for about 10 miles.? A couple of nice county roads in the area also. Hwy 64 East out of Franklin catch the county road Ellijay turning left just before you reach the beginning of the gorge. Ellijay Road will take you over to Hwy 107 or when you get to the intersection that has CullowheeMountain Road turning right & then Left on Pine Creek Road or Right on North Norton Road. All lead back to Hwy 107.
8. I learned back in June when Sherrie and I made the trip in WV. Locals call that Hwy 72 "The Goat Trail" 25 miles of narrow road with no edge lines or centerline. Great road even with it being narrow. Has some of the most senic secluded beauty. Glad to here you guys are making the best of it. If you get a chance take the road that goes up to the highest point in WV. It is just down the road from Canan Valley / South on US33 about 2 miles south of Riverton. / Spruce Knob 4861'. Restraunt on the corner was not bad food or desserts. Later Keep the rubber side down! Cowboy
9. Tom, Happy Birthday! Have a supper day and have drink for that day! Glad to see you made it home! Have a fast and full recovery! See you on the road soon! Cowboy
10. I found the bike and police department. 1. Dublin City Police Department has police report anyone can pick-up. 478-277-5023 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Dublin, Georgia 2. Thomas Daroza 4710 Seagrape Drive Fort Pierce, FL. 34982 3. Casey Towing Dewey Warnock Road East Dublin, Ga. 31027 478-697-7119 Spoke with: Tim Spivey 4. I order to get personal belongings Tim Spivey @ Casey Towing said that we did not need anything signed from Thomas, However before someone makes a trip lets take the time to call before and make sure. The key for the ignition and the key for the trailer are with the bike. 5. Tom has asked that all that we get or bring to him is a. Digital Camera b. Eye Glasses c. Personal Cloths & Hyigene bag in the trailer. d. Leave the rest. 6. Accident happened at Hwy 257 & Dublin By-pass 7. Police report should have insurance info on the person that hit Tom! I think that we should all let the insurance agents know where Tom is and let them do there JOBS. Thank You All Brian Shoemaker 706-635-1580
11. Tom, 1500 Goldwing is only similar in my opinion to the 1800 by the Honda Goldwing Name. Experence. My father has had two 1994 1500 Goldwings and I can say that over the years I have a few 1,000 miles on them. Leg room is very similar but power & agility are night and day. The 1800 has much more power and agility. I live in the mountains and ride like a stole the bike most of the time. We ride two up and the 1500 is just lacking in the power and agility. OK, However the bike is very sound for the most part. My father has had one with 191,000 mile and only had a new clutch for any real maintance issues. His current wing has 108,000 miles and no issues yet! The 1500 drags the pegs to easy while the 1800 is more like the first Gen. Good luck!
12. Did the Georgia State Troopers handle the accident report? or did the some other County / City Police Department? 1. Copy of police report! 2. Person responsible for accident Name and contact info should be on police report. 3. Insurance of responsible person. Name and policy number. 4. Police Report should also have the impound lot that the bike is stored at or the police officer should have it. 5. Recover all personal belongings a. Any thing that is not bolted on the bike and then you might have extra accesorries that are not damaged that might come off. 6. While lying around Tom might start making a list of all the accesories he had on the bike. GPS / MP3 / Sat / Helments with headsets / Just get as much info so when the time comes to deal with insurance he can have his ducks in a row. 7. How soon will he be released from Hospital. 8. Needs for getting home! 9. Things he might need once he gets home! Not sure what condition Tom is going to be in. 9. I assume that Tom has been able to contact his empolyer if he has one? If someone can get me Toms Personal Info I should be able to get the police report and talk to the officer to find out what impound lot had it. Note it will take a letter from Tom for the impound lot to release anything if anybody trys. Don't waste the effort until you have that from Tom. That has been my experence in the past. Tom I wish you the best! Full recovery! If I can help just let me know. Brian Shoemaker 706-635-1580 Home 404-513-5266 Cell AKA Cowboy
13. Hello all riders headed to Vogel! The wife and I live and ride all the back country roads around Vogel and would like to see if anyone would be interested in having someone local take them on tour. I had taken a few with me on rides last Vogel and had great responses. I would like to keep the group no larger than five bikes for saftey. A couple of ideas for rides. Wed. ride up to Murphy then over to the Hiawasse Dam and back to Vogel. Thur. ride to Suches, up Hwy 180 then Hwy 60 to Morganton then to Mineral Bluff, Copper Hill, TN Hwy 58 up to Telico Plains Grap a subway sandwich and take it up to Bald River Falls to have a picnic. Then ride over the Cherohala Skyway into Robbinsville. Then ride over to Hwy 28 South toward Natahalla River Gorge. Ride thru the river gorge and over the Wayhla Rd to US64 toward Hayesville, NC back to Vogel. Fri. I would call it the Waterfalls ride. Taking backroads up to Hayesville, NC taking US64 all the way over to Brevard, NC up Hwy 256 and then the Blue Ridge Parkway back to Balsam, NC then US Hwy 74 . Note able we should see at least six waterfalls and make it to the highest point on the blue ridge parkway some 6,052 feet if I recall. Sat could just be a small figure eight around the Vogel, Helen, Hiawasse, Suches Area. Back in time to have a great lunch with everyone. Lets us know what you think. We sould be over by 11:00 A.M. on Wed. Sooner if need be. Thanks to the wonderful people on this site. Be safe and hope to meet some new friends & see some old ones. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
14. Ken, Let me know if you do make it to Vogel. Not sure what the weather is going to have for us, It has been hot here! Even though it cools down in the upper 66-69 range at night, but hot in the day. I haven't had the Iron Horse out in a couple of weeks now. Just not enjoyable to ride in this heat. I tried to post a link to a couple of rides, don't think it worked correctly. Maybe try copy pasteing the link below. http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2.00&cp=34.91118680145551~-83.92436662316324&lvl=10&sty=r&rtp=pos.34.761439_-83.92346_Vogel%20State%20Park%2C%20GA___e_~v.34.84470299999998_-83.91532999999995_Town%20Creek%20School%20Rd~v.34.83417700000001_-83.88155400000001_Town%20Creek%20School%20Rd~v.34.73623200000001_-83.84765599999997_GA-348%20%2F%20Richard%20B%20Russell%20Scenic%20Hwy%20%2F%20Russell-Brasstown%20Nat'l%20Scenic%20Byway~pos.34.704845_-83.738609_Helen%2C%20GA___e_~v.34.86531_-83.80554999999997_GA-180%20%2F%20Russell-Brasstown%20Nat'l%20Scenic%20Byway~v.34.86799100000003_-83.75721399999999_Owl%20Creek%20Rd~pos.34.99242_-83.75468_near%20Highway%20175%20%26%20Nc%20175%2C%20Hayesville%2C%20NC%2028904___e_~v.35.086139_-83.73110099999996_Tusquittee%20Rd~v.34.97635900000002_-83.88241199999999_GA-66%20%2F%20State%20Highway%2066~pos.35.080205_-84.03561600000002_near%20243%20US-74%20W%2C%20Murphy%2C%20NC%2028906___e_~pos.34.76143899999998_-83.9234600000001_Vogel%20State%20Park%2C%20GA___e_&mode=D&rtop=0~0~0~&form=LMLTSN&encType=1 http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2.00&cp=34.91118680145551~-83.92436662316324&lvl=10&sty=r&rtp=pos.34.761439_-83.92346_Vogel%20State%20Park%2C%20GA___e_~v.34.84470299999998_-83.91532999999995_Town%20Creek%20School%20Rd~v.34.83417700000001_-83.88155400000001_Town%20Creek%20School%20Rd~v.34.73623200000001_-83.84765599999997_GA-348%20%2F%20Richard%20B%20Russell%20Scenic%20Hwy%20%2F%20Russell-Brasstown%20Nat'l%20Scenic%20Byway~pos.34.704845_-83.738609_Helen%2C%20GA___e_~v.34.86531_-83.80554999999997_GA-180%20%2F%20Russell-Brasstown%20Nat'l%20Scenic%20Byway~v.34.86799100000003_-83.75721399999999_Owl%20Creek%20Rd~pos.34.99242_-83.75468_near%20Highway%20175%20%26%20Nc%20175%2C%20Hayesville%2C%20NC%2028904___e_~v.35.086139_-83.73110099999996_Tusquittee%20Rd~v.34.97635900000002_-83.88241199999999_GA-66%20%2F%20State%20Highway%2066~pos.35.080205_-84.03561600000002_near%20243%20US-74%20W%2C%20Murphy%2C%20NC%2028906___e_~pos.34.76143899999998_-83.9234600000001_Vogel%20State%20Park%2C%20GA___e_&mode=D&rtop=0~0~0~&form=LMLTSN&encType=1
15. Kenny, Looks like you and Beth had a great trip! Did you have a favorite ride? How did you ride Poudre Canyon. Did you take Co14 over to Walden? Hope the weather starts cooling down so maybe we will see You & Beth with the timeout trailer. How did you do pulling around for the whole trip? Later!
16. Can you post pictures of the craking Avon tire. I have a set that has dates 4308 for the front Avon Venom AM41 150/80HB-16 4309 for the rear Avon Venom AM42 150/90HB-15 Dennis Kirk Total $252.98 July 26, 2010 Mounted on August 01 have a little over 6400 miles on them. No apparent cracks! Pictures of yours would be great.
17. We have not decided on a date to leave yet, however we do have a route planned! However we are making sure we have a escape route just in case the weather turns bad. Nothing worse to ruin a trip with days of bad weather. One or two bad days is ok but lets not have more! Note check out the attached pdf file I put toghether on our trip. Also check out the link to my blog of our trip west in May June of 2008. http://www.brianshoemakersironhorse.blogspot.com/ brian
18. Looks like in order to get a push button lock to work on the bushtec trailer it will have to not only be pushing in but it must also rotate as you push it in. Local lock smith and I looked thru all of his books trying to come up with a fix. I think after looking at the You Tube Video that poncho posted I will be making me a emergency wire that will unlock. Poncho you won't belive this but just before you posted that the wife and I were trying to make a lock work that we had gotten from the lock smith. Had the linkage and cylinder out on the work bench and the lid just shut! That post was dead on! We tried a coat hanger for about two hours, drilled the tag light bolts out, finally I got my mouth just right and the coat hanger caught the latch. Don't think I was not thinking about drilling a hole behind the tag. That was just to real! Long story short! Trunk lid open! Emergency Latch wire is connected! No push button lock could be found!
19. Local locksmith could not find the correct lock. The locking mechanism is an easy change but the part that fits on the end of the lock is the problem. I might have to try another locksmith in a bigger town!
20. Planning a camping trip west June 11 thru July 4. Realizing the need for proper bedding to stay warm since the mountains of colorado get cold at night. The wife mentioned trying the vaccum bags, we were snowed in up on the mountain and could not get out, so I thought I would try a trash bag. WOW! I could not belive how small the down comforters & pillows colapsed down. Just put the material in bag and push the air out no vaccum needed. Twisted the top and used a plastic tie, Stayed compressed for two days before I just finally untied. Just a thought if you can't find vaccum bags.
21. Thanks again guys! This is exactly what I was looking for. I will take the lock out before the playoffs and have ready to take down to the local lock smith in the morning. I will follow up with the results.
22. Need help finding a push button lock for my bushtec trailer. The current lock has to be operated with a key everytime you want to get in. Hoping someone might have an idea on a push button lock similar to our trunk lids. Thanks for any sugguestions.
23. I had the same wear issue and found that the dealer had installed the rear axle spacer on the kickstand side was installed wrong. Could not belive that I let the dealer change my tires. Never again! Just got lazy! I can't belive that I did not notice by the way it would ride, However I did not notice anything diffrent except for the tire wear. Wish I would of posted pictures like you did. Mine looked exactly like yours. I ride the curves just as much as you do it sounds and if I am not draging the pegs I am not riding. I just mounted the Avons and hope I found the issue. Also double check your brake calipers to make sure one is not sticking. Polish all four and twist with your fingers to make sure they are free! Just my thoughts!
24. Kenny, Thats great! You will like that. Friend around the corner has one and when we go out it is so much less hassle for him and his wife than me and sherrie. He has camp set up in 15 minutes tops and that is with all set up drinking a cold one. Maybe you and Beth can ride up toward Vogel again and I will take you up on and around the Blue Ridge. I saw that you did the Blue Ridge already this year! Maybe we need just to go to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah area. Hope you have a great time camping. I have heard you can put a small AC unit in them also! LOL Brian Shoemaker Cowboy
25. Goose, I had the rear end & rear swing arm off, greased the bearings and grease the splines and the hub splines. Rear brakes do not seem to be sticking or wearing oddly. Rear wheel bearings how can I check?
