  1. It is possible that the bracket / fairing frame is bent on your friends bike. I have a 2004 with 130,00o mile and never had a problem with the windshield or the chrome trim. I also have the windshield and fairing off the bike at least twice a year for cleaning all electrical connectors. Might be over kill but I can say that the radio has not had a problem. Seems like the end screw have that flimsy attachment tab. If it is broken then that could also hurt the windshield. Good Luck

    Dragon trip

That's a fact. I think you could ride for 2 weeks in WV alone and still not find all the great rides. I have to say it is a hidden gem for the motorcycle enthusiast. Just need to be careful with some of the logging trucks and such. That goes to say anytime you ride any where. All be safe and keep the rubber on the road.

    Dragon trip

I know that forth gear is good but I find third and higher rpm's work. Someone told me it is like poetry in motion to see me slay the dragon. Its a good ride however we all know that there is better rides with less blue light patrols. If you want to sharpen your skills for an afternoon its a nice run. If you want a day of it ride VA16 & WV16.
  4. Take the snap ring off and pull the 5 pin hub off and make sure to grease them.
  5. Loudad, I had an experience last year out on the road. After installing a new battery the bike still would not start. Checking the 30amp fuses and all was good, I pulled the tank off and the plug that goes to the switch had burnt. I have also heard that one of the wires might even come loose. Not saying this is it but just double check all the plugs and wires that are under the tank. Brian Shoemaker
  6. Cost OEM Rebuild Kit for Rear Brake Caliper is as much as an just buying the whole new Rear Brake Assembly. Does anyone have a supplier for the seals and pistons for the rear brakes. Looks like I need (8) seals & (4) pistons. I know I should not have to replace the pistons. So I will make that call when I get a price for the seals. Could not find a kit from K&L Brakes Any Suggestions Thanks
  7. Stator can fail in stages. Partial charge can be possible. Research on the site. Seems that the multitude of articles on this subject. I had mine go out in stages. When I opened it up the stator was burnt only on some sections. I recommend the total upgrade. With as much as you ride and as many miles I would replace the Stator & Rectifier & make sure that the connector plugs are all good. I also had one wire in a plug that was corroded and made things not charge properly. Just my two cents
  8. Thanks to all! Great ideas as usual. Freebird, Seems the places I tend to ride the most cell phone signals are not good so my Pandora does not work. I have Verizon and the wife has AT&T trying to make it so we one of us would have coverage, However once again the backwoods rider that I am, I find poor cell service. I realize that you can not listen to all the songs that I have in one trip, even though when I go for 28 days I is nice not to hear the same song. Never know what mood we are in and what music we want to listen to. Over the years I have collected Music from Family and Friends. Great variety which is the spice of life. Flyinfool, I will look into the SID Card 128G that sound like the best option. I was not aware that I could do that or it was available. Wife has an I phone and uses it to take pictures so I new I could not use her's. I think I have an old Android so I will look into that option. Thanks Djh3, Thanks for the offer, I think I have and old one and will try putting an SID Card see if I get the results I am looking for. Thanks to all again. Keep coming up with new ideas. Brian Shoemaker
  9. Looking for an Alternate MP3 Player that will hold 90GB. Does anybody have ideas. I-Pod Touch 128GB cost more than what I want to spend $350-$400 I would like to find something around $200 - $250 or of course anything less would be nice. Thanks for any input or ideas.
  10. I would like to make a suggestion for roads while you ride in Colorado & Utah. Colorado Highway CO149 @ Gunnison, Lake City, Creede, South Fork. ( Amazing Waterfall on the East side of the road just south of Lake City. Utah Highway 14 West off of US89 over to Cedar Breaks National Monument ( Amazing Ride thru Mountains of over 10,000 feet with great Cedar Trees galore.) Circles back to US89 just north of Bryce Canyon turn. Just the wife's and mine 2cents worth. It is worth the time. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
  11. Anyone with pictures of the R1 /R6 front calipers?
  12. After a 7900 miles and 28 days on the road the 2004 RSV Midnight is needing a little TLC. Rear brakes need rebuilding and wondering if I just need to go back with standard parts or go with an upgrade? I have tried reading and searching for a complete write up on improving the rear brakes on Second Generations, to much info and not enough complete info. I think I would like to go with Stainless Steel lines! Who sells exact replacements? How do you rebuild the calipers / master cylinder? Should the I replace / upgrade the rear calipers? Pictures of Upgrade! Who has Stainless Steel lines for replacement the front lines? Rebuild kits for the front calipers or do I upgrade to a different set of front calipers? Any pictures of upgrades? Who has Stainless Steel lines for replacement on the clutch? How do you replace the clutch line and how many lines are involved? Thanks in advance as always. Brian Shoemaker
  13. Good info. Freebird It seems to be Straight Talk from what I can get from them. Verizon does charge high fees but I think you can pay for a different plan that allows calling from canada. I can call canada friends now it is just when I get up there and try calling home or customers that I will have a problem. Camos Thanks for the info. I do have a unlocked phone so that should work. Bratmanxj As long as the camp grounds we camp in have the Wifi I will be using that. Thanks Anyone else have any knowledge Thanks
  14. Need advice on getting my cell phone to work in Canada. I plan on being in different parts of Canada from Ontario to British Columbia for 3 weeks. I have an I-phone thru Straight Talk. Wondering if anyone had any good options. I am not retired so it will be a working / riding vacation. Thanks Brian
  15. I live in Ellijay, Ga. Took the front forks off the bike and took them down to Woodstock, GA. to Traxxion Suspension. They specialize in suspensions. You can visit the website or just ride over one day and talk to them. Great set of guys! One can spend as much as you want or don't want to improve the suspension. It really boils down to the fact that we are riding a touring bike not a race bike. However you can not tell me that. I love to ride these mountain roads hard and I hated how much the front forks dive as I set up in the corners. With the new springs 37 X 315 size with 1.10 rate and the emulator springs with 3 turns & 15W & 220mm spacer that they installed made the bike really handle amazing in the mountains. http://www.traxxion.com/ Call me if you have an questions. Brian
  16. Jim, I just put a set on my bike. I have ridden over 100,000 miles without and in the last year I found that the area between my shoulder blades was beginning to hurt or ache after a ride. I also found that my hands where going to sleep. So I thought after all the information here on the site the best option for me was the 1.5 risers. Thumbs up on the risers. I am 6'-2" and have a long reach but the risers give me that little bit to take that tightness in the shoulders. If you notice the area I live in is some of the best riding in the lower 48. I have no issue with the contact that the bars have with the ignition cover. Yes it does hit but the black plastic cover that I have gives plenty when the little contact is made. I only notice it touching when I do a full turn in the U-turns. The wife and I tend to have to do many U-turns do to not getting that picture that she wanted, no problem! If you have the chrome ignition cover this might be more of an issue, I personally have no direct knowledge since mine is black plastic. I have no issues with the Baron 1.5 risers Easy to Install Quality product Brian
  17. Installed! Also Installed a smaller VOLT METER ! Problem found both meters tell me that at idle I am charging 12.5, OK! But when I raise the RPM's it will go as far as 17.1! Not Good this will boil the battery for sure. Any sugguestions for a replacement Rectifier/Regulator OEM Cycle has the Rectifier & Regulator Assy 4XY-81960-00-00 for $70.20 Would like a better option than the OEM part. Possible Heavier Duty? Part numbers and Manufacturer or Seller would be appreciated. Thank Brian
  18. Anyone have a Show Chrome Digital 5 Function Volt Meter installed. I ran the wires last night and hooked it up as per installation instructions. Red wire to constant positive 12 Volt source. Black to ground on the frame. Orange to a 12 Volt source that is on thru the Acc. Switch. Question does the clock, volts & temp stay on all the time? One would think that after time this would draw the battery down! Brian
  19. Rick, After Sturgis where are you headed! Make post every now and then would like to keep up with the fires and heat wave. Wife and I are going up the UP and then over to Thunder Bay and on West to Jasper, AB for the Icefields Parkway. Leaving after Labor Day. Be safe and have a great time. Don't look now Ethel to late that would be the streak. Later Cowboy
  20. Dennis, Thanks for the info. looks like I would rather have a German Made in lieu of China, Indonesian, maybe wrong but I love my German Made Products. Don, I have been fortunate not to need a tube but the trip in 2014 up to New England my trailer tires just gave up the tread in two days, Had to have them replaced on the road. I give Bushtec the credit it was 5 minutes before closing and UPS & FED-X had already ran. However the guy personally got the tires packaged and took them to a UPS Drop Box and I had them by lunch the next day. Only lost about 4 hours of riding time. The tires are softer than the first set and were made in Indonesia. Price was crazy high but thats what you get when you are on the road and do not have time to shop. Not sure why the tires wore so quick, I carry a level with me and always check tire pressure twice a day. I also check the bearings and tire temps at each gas stop. That's how I noticed the tire wear. Thanks again for your inputs. Have a great day!
  21. I know that Bushtec sells replacement tires, however I was hoping that someone might have a option that they have used in the past. Tire Size 3.00 X 16 6ply I have 14,000 on the set now and will need a new set before my trip in September. I replaced the bearings about 18,000 miles ago not sure if I will need them also. Just thought that I would get a few thoughts. Brian
  22. Yes we have been a few miles over the years. Weather of all kinds and temp. Wife has the heated vest so riding is easier in cold weather. Not much on camping when it gets below freezing but as long as we can find electric hook up and a bath house all is good. We tend to cook most mornings and dinners weather it is camping or hotel. Hoping we can see the trees changing colors at least by the time we turn the iron horse home. Looks like with all the information, making it to the coast is a must! Our experience with campgrounds in the west is no running water. While campgrounds up the East Coast / New England are closing up by Columbus Day. Hard to get adjusted to that since most all the southern campgrounds stay open and all have running water and electric. Guess the cold weather plays a big part in having running water. Thanks again for information. Brian
  23. Doug, We all know how things change. With the fires and weather, wife and I thought lets hit it during the Fall as the leaves change. Thanks for the offer and if we see that we make it your way I will try and at least say hello. What type of Hwy is 5 & 6. Wondering about the pavement and how smooth or how much frost heave has affected the highway. It sounds like Hwy 16 is going to be really busy with every day traffic that has to travel across east to west. Wife and I like to ride just off the beaten path when possible as long as we don't lose that much time. What type of Hwy is 14? Thanks again Doug. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
  24. Question about Hwy to travel Leaving the International Rally going North then North-West Plan on riding up along Lake Huron on the Michigan side. Hit I-75 and cross over and head to Thunder Bay Thunder Bay over to Winnipeg (Hwy 17) Winnipeg to Saskatoon then Question (Hwy 6 & 5) or just use (Hwy16) Saskatoon to Edmonton Question (Hwy 14) or just use (Hwy16) Edmonton to Jasper and down the Icefields Parkway and then weather will decide what and where we go from there. Over toward Penticton, BC maybe even Vancouver. Main reason for trip is to ride the Upper Lakes in Michigan and then ride the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Calgary Thanks for any suggestions and or help Brian Shoemaker
  25. What would you think about the following. 7" Led Headlight & Bezel> Question if you think it would work without much modification? Looks like it comes with a headlight bezel? Comes with the two 4 1/2 passing lamps! Wondering if these will fit in our passing lamps http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Daymaker-Projector-Headlight-Passing-Lights-Mount-for-Harley-Electra-Glide-/331725118902 Brian
