Ok I have some 67,000 miles under my 2004 RSV and have been on the Dunlop 404 WWW for the most. Last set I changed to the Elite3 Dunlop. I would like to see if any others have had similar findings. Yes I read about folks getting all kinds of diffrent mileage from all the diffrent tires, but I have the following findings and are looking for another opinion. Dunlop 404 Changed at miles Tire Life Miles 05-20-06 11,655 miles 11,655 05-05-07 22,575 miles 10,920 04-20-08 33,530 miles 10,955 07-12-08 43,614 miles 10,084 05-15-09 51,741 miles 8,127 11-10-09 58,950 miles 7,209 Dunlop Elite3 07-22-10 67,141 miles 8,191 Looking to make a change for more mileage than I have been getting. 80% of the time two up and on the back roads in the mountains. I ride hard on the throttle and like I stole it in the curves. Dunlop 404's I had decent mileage but the performace was lacking, however I did not have the awful tractor tire roar that the Dulop Elite 3 has in the curves. Elite 3 performace in all conditions were unfalable but the noise is terrible. I thought the clutch basket noise was bad. Rear shock still has fluid and still holds air with never leaking. Tires are always checked for pressure before it rolls out of the garage no matter if it is just down to the store. Pressure nevers seems to be low. I always run at 41 PSI. Thoughts from the all great would be appreciated!

Dunlop D404 had a good ride in the mountains but very low mileage. I have 62,000 miles on the Midnight 2004. I ride two up 80% of the time and pull a trailer 20%. Previous owner not sure what he ran but my use as follows: First set of D404 got 11,600 Second set D404 got 10,200 Third set D404 got 9,400 Fourth set D404 got only 8,100 Fifth set D404 only 7,200 Decided that the Wide White Wall was not worth the money I was spending on tires. Dunlop would not say why I was gettting such a change in mileage. I have not changed my riding habits. I ride the mountains 80% of my riding and I ride like I have a 1st Generation which I use to have. That said I changed to the Elite 3's 6500 miles so far still look new. I like the performance in the rain & on the tar snakes and the mileage looks great so far However in the mountains the noise is more than what I like. To truely enjoy the mountain roads with the running rivers no radio or loud pipes the whine of the tires is more than the whine of the I-basket. Dunlop makes a great tire but the Elite 3's just have the noise issue. Next change I will be trying the Avons is the craking issue is solved. Just my 2 cents.

Stebel horn mounting
Cowboy replied to GOODWRENCH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mounted mine in the fairing used plumming straping. Mounted on the right side if you are looking at the bike. The horn is just as loud I think. I did a test with another rider that had his mounted down where the original horn is on the side. He had used the Carbon One Bracket and wiring harness. I think personally it looks better if you leave the original horn and just mount another one in the fairing. The stebel horn and chrome is just not as attractive. Just my thoughts. -
Riding with a couple of guys today and both of them mentioned that they thought I must be running rich since they could smell a strong fume of gas as we ran along. Thought some of you might have some insight on this. Carb sync at Vogel last year and Seafoam once this year. I also have made sure the airboxes are seated properly on the carbs. Would carb. float levels due it or just air mixture? All thought would be helpful as always. Thanks Brian

Here in Ellijay, Ga. / Col. Pooles / Snow Skiing is in order. No riding until the sand gets off the roads.

http://brianshoemakersironhorse.blogspot.com/ If you want you can follow this link to my blog that the wife and I made for our trip Last May 22nd 2008 thru June 30th 2008 Atlanta to California & back. I tried to upload a set of pictures along with a small caption for each couple of days. You can see from all the pictures my wife just got carried away. However, the Hwy 261 out of Mexican Hat is in the folder Cortez to Monument Valley thru Glen Canyon. I think the day is May 31st, so you have to look at the older post on the blog. The switch backs are paved however the pea gravel from the dirt just sets on top and makes it a white knuckle experience I will not soon forget. Going up or North is the only way I would travel if the bike was loaded as it was! Fairly good shape have seen worse just don't look down or get to close to the edge. There is no guard rails and it is a long way down. Seems that the sign says it was only three miles but I know it had to be more!! Loved the trip glad that I made it and I can say that it was worth it. Hint when your out that way don't go by a gas station without stopping. See link: http://brianshoemakersironhorse.blogspot.com/

What a great ride and having a filly like that in the middle makes for an easy day! Not sure what Rick "Sarges46" was doing but I know what the teacher & cowboy had going on with the new filly!

I found that while re routing the passengers intercom cord and putting the dielectric in all the fittings that this removed the ticking noise without having to add a noise filter.
