  1. OK, thanks for the advice. I guess this season is comming to an end so maybe i'll just wait till spring and list it. I didnt think adding all those accessories made much of a difference.
  2. Good Morning everyone, I was considering putting my 2008 Venture up for sale. With 17K miles on it, I dont know what a fair retail price would be. It has many extras like back rest, luggage rack, driving lights and is in excellent condition. So would anyone have suggestions as to a fair price for this bike? Maybe at least a number i could start with. Thanks Frank
  3. Good news everyone, That was the problem with the radio, trip odometer and clock. I replaced the 10amp backup fuse and " BINGO" every is back to normal. I'm thinkin about calling the dealer and fileing a warranty claim and going through all the hassle. But all is good now. Thanks for all your help. This sight is the greatest.
  4. Hello, It seems this year my trip odometers and clock dont hold their setting after the bike is turned off. They work perfect while the bike is running. Is there a ram battery I need to replace to get the information to stay? Thanks Frank
  5. Good morning, My radio did the same thing. It was fine all last year but this year it's totally dead. Now i had to jump the bike to get it started this spring and I'm wondering if I damage the radio by doing so because my trip odometer and clock wont hold the settings. They work fine while the bike is running, but reset when the bike is turned off. It"s a 2008 Venture and I'm thinking this is the last year for the warranty. If the dealer won't cover it, what options do I have? Is there an after market radio I could use in place of the original? I haven't taken apart the fering yet but I did check the audio fuse and it's good so I'll have to dig deeper into the problem. It seem like everything on these bikes are so damn expensive to fix. I might just have to bite the bullet and pay if I want to listen to some tunes while I cruse. Thanks Frank
  6. Hello Everyone! Just got back from an amazing trip south. Road the Skyline and the Blueridge all the way down to Gatlinburgh and back. While I was down that far I decided to ride the Dragon. What ride,318 turns in 11 miles. I have to say the Venture did very well on the whole trip. What an amazing bike! Not even a hit of trouble and handled great! Been wanting to do this for awhile now so I can scratch this off my bucket list!
  7. Good Morning everyone, Here is my story, I have been chasing an electrical problem for awhile now concerning my headlight. I knew it was loose connection somewhere cause the fuse wasen't blown and the headlight would work off and on. I checked all the connectors to a point where i was about to run my own hot wire to the high and low switch. Never did i think about the factory instructions on how to install the driving lights. I'm thinking this is the factory who is telling me to tap into the hot from the headlights so they must know what their doing. (WRONG)!! Believe me, dont use their instructions! Listen to the people who have installed their driving lights with a relay. You'll save youself a huge headache. I traced the the wiring to that connector and sure enough... the connector was smoked! After cutting and resoldering, the headlights work perfect! I installed a relay for the driving lights and they work perfect also. So please.......heed this warning, and be smart from the start and use a relay for the driving lights!!!! Thanks for listening! Frank
  8. Good morning everyone, My 08 RSV, having only 11K miles on it makes a horiffic grinding noise from the front brakes. I checked the pads and there is alot of brake left. Do I take the pads off and scuff them to remove the glaze? Or is there another problem I should be looking for? Thanks Frank

    seat bolts

Keith, The drawer knobs worked perfect. I just screwed them over the seat studs and they tapped themselves on. Thanks for the great suggestion although i did like the one about eating another gallon of icecream....LOL LOL Thanks Again Frank
  10. Good Morning Everyone, I took a 300 mile run this past weekend and somehow lost both of my front seat bolts. Anybody have a quick fix for this? Or do I need to get the OEM replacements! Thanks Frank
  11. Good morning everyone, Well the weather is finally nice enough to hunt down my headlight problem. I've been thinking about it for a while now and with all of your suggestions i decided to tackle this problem yesterday. Like i said before the fuse was good, i had power to both sides so i went directly to the switch. As soon as I pulled it apart...there it was. Somehow the hot wire came loose from the switch. Soldered it back on and .........Batta Bing...Batta...Boom I had both high and low beam. Total time invested about 1/2 hour. I'm a happy man. Thank You all so very much for all of your suggestions. With input like this who needs the Stealers (except to pay for warranty). This sight is a volume of knowledge and very smart people. Thanks Again Frank
  12. To all of the wonderful members of this culb, Sometimes, not often enough, we reflect upon those good things, and those thoughts always center around those we love, and we think about those people, who mean so much to us, and for so many years have made us so very happy. Then we count the times we have forgotten to say THANK YOU and just how much we LOVE them. Wishing everyone all the Best
  13. Gary, Are the connectors visible from the outside or do i have to remove the gas tank? Excellent schematic by the way. I'm real close to fixing this one cause i'm right in the area i need to be. Its either the switch or the supply to the switch. All I need to do now is follow the power. Thanks Frank
  14. OK, here is what i know for fact, the headlight fuse has power on both sides with the ignition switch on. The connector from the headlight itself has no power on either hi or low side. Ground is good from the connector. No signs of burnt or melted connector. Does the power from the fuse go directly to the hi low switch? If so it almost has to be the switch or the supply wire to the switch. Ill take the hi low switch apart and start my probing from there. It sounds like the circut should be pretty easy to follow if there's no other Yamaha crap relays in between. I think im on the right path now. I'll let everyone know what i find! Thanks.
  15. Yamaha included a silly device called a Reserve Lighting Unit that will automatically switch your headlight to Hi-beam if your lo-beam burns out. It also lights up an idiot light to tell you that your headlight is out. If this unit fails you won't have either lo-beam or hi-beam and your idiot light won't even work.>> This is from another post so i dont even know if my 08 has one of these but this is my exact problem, no hi, no low, no indicator. so i checked the fuse with a test light and both sides are hot, i sprayed contact cleaner in both the hi low switch and start button. i did not take them apart. i checked the connector at the headlight and there is no power to either side. the connector is not melted in any way i installed driving lights about a year ago and had the fairing off. i followed Yamaha's instructions and spliced into the wires. i thought this would be easier to find than this, its just too bad the dealer is so far away. ill give it a few more tries before i give up. thanks for your help
  16. ok, i performed all the preliminary tests like fuse, hi low switch, starter switch lube and found i still have no power at the headlight connector. Could it possibly be the Reserve switch thats defective? As last resort id take it to the Stealer but if i can fix it myself with all you're help, i would rather do that. I know its still under warranty but the dealer is a long way. Thanks
  17. Good afternoon everyone, Both hi and low beam on my 08 RSV went out last week. I have been reading the threads on this problem and have done the starter switch lube and fuse checking. I have read there might be a possibility of the Reserve Light Unit going bad but how often is this a problem? I'm not sure as to what direction to take at this point. Its difficult to get to the headlight lamp but is it possible for both hi and low to go bad in one lamp? Any suggestions would be helpful. By the way, everything else is working fine, it's just the headlight. Thanks Frank
  18. If all goes well I'll be leaving Pittsburgh area Aug 28, This is the first long trip I will be taking on the bike so thank you for all your suggestions. I already changed the tires and lubed the hub pins but other than that I thought I would take advantage of the advice from those of you who take longer trips more frequently. Thanks Again Frank
  19. Good Morning Everyone! I'm about to ride the Blue ridge 2 up on my 08 RSV. I was wondering if anyone would suggest to me what I should check over before I go. I presently have 10K on the bike and will be riding about 1200 miles. Thank you for your suggestions. Frank
  20. Good morning everyone, The question i have is about the fuel gauge on my 08 RSV. As the bars reduce to empty is this an indication of the whole tank or is the reserve still intact? A few of my freinds ride with the fuel pet-cock on reserve, but i try to tell them if they ever run out of gas, thats it !!! they'll be pushing. So i was wondering if the fuel gauge on my RSV reads the reserve gas. Also how far can i expect to go on a reserve before runnung out? Thanks and have a safe summer Frank
  21. Hello, My wife just bought a 2006 Yamaha 650 v-star Silverado. However the bike is just a little to tall for her. I was wondering if any of you have installed a lowering kit on these bikes? If so, could you please explain the proceedure. I'm pretty good with mechanical repair and would like to do this myself. Thanks for the advice! Frank
  22. Hello everyone, Well it's getting to be that time of year when we all think about getting the bikes ready. I'm changing tires for the first time on the Venture and wanted to lube the hub splines when i have the rear wheel off. I can remember something about using a Honda lube of somekind. Would someone please refresh me as to what I should use. I understand its suppost to be the best. Thanks and have a safe summer Frank
  23. Good afternoon everyone, I am about to change the set of tires for the first time on my 2008 Venture. I have read so much on which tire to choose, i really need some advice. The local bike shop tells me the Michilen Commander tires are a big seller for him and his customers love them. Most of his customers are Harley owners. He is giving me a good price on them but I just dont know how they will handle on my Venture. He sells other brand names and has no problem selling me what I ask for. I know alot of you have experience in this area and have used many different tires. My question is: How do the Michilen tires perform on a Venture and what could I expect out of them in mileage and performance? Thanks for your advice!
  24. Yes I do, brand new still in the box. Interested? Just too lazy to install. frankc
  25. For me........I call her " V ". Got the wife saying it too! Imagine that.
