  1. Make sure squelch on CB is not wide open as this will over ride the intercom and just give a hiss.
  2. At one time someone was making a small mirror that could be permanently attached to the bike at the correct angle. One could see the mirror and oil level by simply looking down. However, IIRC they were for V-Stars. I wonder if something like this could be made for the 2nd Gen?
  3. OK. Had a few minutes to play with it today. Bought a digital voltmeter and put it on the battery in the bike. Measured 12.36 volts. Started bike up, and voltage dropped to around 11 volts....no matter what rpms I was at. I don't have time to try any thing more right now but this may help someone solve this problem. By the way, had the battery on a 2amp charger for 4 hours last night, and the battery was bubbling but not hot when I quit charging. By the way has anyone tried this http://www.rmstator.com/en/index.php?section=technical_ressources and go throught their fault finding pdf file?
  4. Thanks for all your replies guys, I appreciate it. OK, to recap, this is a new stator installed a little less than a year ago. At that time, everyone suggested not using the 3 white wire/3white wire connector and soldering direct. I did this. Now to check out the stator, I will have to dig those wires out, remove heatshrink and electrical tape, and unsolder these wires to check the ohm readings. Correct? I did charge the battery after getting home tonight...it measures 12V or so on my cheap Canadian Tire analog voltmeter. After connecting up battery, and all battery terminals are clean, I cannot see any voltage difference between idle and reving @ 3000+. I know this voltmeter isn't really good, but I can visually see the difference between 12 and 14 volts. I found in the sevice manual the directions for checking out the rectifier/regualtor. I am sorry, but for the life of me I cannot find where to measure these points. I have 3 white wires coming out of rectifier going to stator wires, plus 2 red and 2 black going to a connector box. Can't see where to measure ie d1 or d2 etc. I took all the connectors apart I could find between rectifier and battery. The only one looking suspitious is a main red wire coming off + terminal with the main fuse. The connector is broke a bit, but since everything works I assume it is OK. Bottom line here is I am going to try and find someone with a digital ohmeter/voltmeter and check things out...including undsoldering the stator wires. I think it is the stator and I find it hard to believe this stator is shot already...only about 12,000km on it. I got it from RMStator. I believe it has a one year warrenty. It could be the battery but surely I woud see 14 volts at terminals @ higher revs? That would prove stator output but battery not accepting no? Guess this has to wait till monday, unless someone has more ideas. Thanks. Just went to RMStator web site. It says this model RMG080 is a high output stator giving about 20% more power that OEM stator. Not according to my voltage readings, ever. I will have to call them monday also.
  5. I guess what I am looking for is a confirmation that the problem is NOT the stator or battery? My understanding is that either they work...or they don't. There is no grey area where they work sometimes, right? Checking voltage at the battery terminals with a digital voltmeter will not tell me where the problem is...it will only tell me if the voltage reaching the battery is correct. SO, if the stator is good, then there has to be an intermittent short etc that SOMETIMES acts up. Right? Can the regulator/recitier act this way or is like the stator/battery....it either works or it it toast? If not, then I am looking at a broken wire or poor connection somewhere on the bike.
  6. I have an 89 Venture, and replaced the stator last year. I must admit this stator never indicated as high a charging as the old one did. However, these guages are not noted for being really accurate. However, how is it possible to have the voltmeter indicate less than or equal to 12 volts, for 40 km. I shut the bike down for 1/2 hour. I had barely enough to turn bike over to start and then on return trip it indicates charging ie about 13.5 volts. I even had a short trip 0f 40 km one way, where it indicated 12 or less, and then gradually worked up to over 12 volts after about 30 km. I note that if I put on running lights (2x35 watt) they really knock it down...but for all the above the only electrical items were Cb, radio and cruise control. I thought that the stator either worked or didn't, battery the same. So I am thinking poor conection somewhere (note I did remove conectors when installing new stator and directly soldered), or is it possible the regulator can do this intermittent thing? I am lost on this one. Perhaps some of the electrical gurus have ideas? Thanks.
  7. Just to let everyone know Pete is home. I just got off the phone talking to him. He has only been home an hour or so and it probably was a long day. He sounds good and seems to be in good spirits. Hopefully I can get out to see him for a short visit next week.

    desiccant

I had mine out, and I am sure I removed all lines. Not sure but I think I removed one line, then unscrewed cannister from the other line. I really had a tough time getting into the cannister to get to the desiccant. There is a post somewhere here, in 1st gen, about the problems and solutions to getting it out. Try this http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20291

    desiccant

Brian, Cannister contains the desiccant to dry the air pumped through the compressor in the CLASS system. It is under the rear passenger seat.
  10. Pete, You were asking about trike kits. Below is a link to the one Bigbob and I were talking about. I am not sure this is the best, but someone on this site has to have an opinion on the pros and cons of each one. Best of luck http://www.mtcvoyager.com/ Local dealer in Alberta Easy-On Trike Conversions Ltd 837 1st St South Three Hills, Ab Harvey Watson 1-403-443-5441 easyon@telus.net
  11. OK folks, here is the latest scoop! Bigbob, his wife Yvonne, and I traveled to Saskatoon City Hospital to see Pete today. We had a great visit with him and his wife Hazel. He is doing really great and seemed happy to see us. Coffee and sweets were awesome Hazel! Pete and Hazel were telling us some really weird things that happen with strokes and how they affect you...things that I didn't know at least. However, I think with Pete's outlook and determination, he will be out and about soon. He wants everyone to know, he has a computer at this hospital. As long as he doesn't move it he seems to get wireless signal. He can get to this site, but for some reason, he can't log on. Just like there is some sort of cookie that says that password should be associated with another IP address. I am not a computer geek (in fact a Mac geek) so I told them to get Hazel to join up and post under her name....or just join up again as Tequila Pete or something. Then he could post as well as read comments. I figure the moderators could sort this out later...right Don? Hope we didn't give him bad advice? Perhaps it is the IE or Safari or whatever program he is using. (Actually, I remember this happening to me once, but I can't remember what I or Don did to fix it.) So go for it folks and let Pete know you are thinking of him. Hopefully he will be able to post soon. I think Rick & Marilyn from Brandon will he visiting tonight or tomorrow so they will have more news.
  12. Thanks Al. I had the same idea all winter but since the 89 didn't sell I may as well get it ready to go. Won't be long now till ridin' season. Thanks to all the rest for the ideas. I will try them all.
  13. I have an '89 Venture. If I set the cruise at about 100KPH, it will eventually settle in about 107KPH. However, after losing a bit going uphill, on the downside it really speeds up. So much so that I have taken to hand cranking the throttle back so as to keep the speed down. If I don't it seems to hold that high speed quite awhile, and eventually I would have to reset the cruise again. Also, there have been a couple of times where it is like the cruise doesn't know where it is, and senses it is REALLY below speed. This results in the throttle opening up almost wide open. Not sure if it would correct itself as I always cancel the cruise, and then reset. So, any ideas what or where to start? Is it a sensor, or the whole cruise control module? Replacement? Thanks for looking guys.
  14. Get well soon Pete. If you are reading this, Bigbob, Bigbob's lovely wife, and I are coming up on Saturday as well. Had planned to meet Sarge46 as well, but it appears we will miss each other. Hang in there Pete and see you next Saturday.
  15. Gee Schlepporello, I would have taken you for a 2nd gen owner with all that hot air...in a tuba, of course!
  16. Pete, Hope you get better soon. How about all the snow fall in the past two days you don't have to shovel! Take care, and hope to see you again soon.
  17. Hi folks. Just got home from Saskatoon. I did get to see Pete very briefly this morning about 11:30. He was very tired and sleepy, but he did recoginize me and called me by name. I told him everyone from this website was rooting for him. His daughter was there and said they have been reading all the posts to Pete. As I mentioned, it was very brief. Visiting hours where he was really were not until 2:00 pm, so were we busting the rules and did not want to cause too much trouble. His wife Hazel was also there, but I did not get a chance to talk to her....next time.
  18. Is Pete allowed visitors yet....or is it restricted to just family members? I am coming up on Wednesday to look for a place for my daughter to live in while attending university next year. We will be right beside the University Hospital, and if we had time I was thinking of stopping in. No problem if this is not the right time, as I am sure to be up again. Get well wishes to Pete.
  19. Guys, I just went to this site and did a search on Yamaha, Venture, carb kits and came up with a price of $89.00. Isn't that what you want at a good price? http://www.siriusconinc.com/default.asp
  20. Just saw a set on ebay....Pinwall cycle I think.
  21. Hey Sarge, Please pass on to Pete that I am thinking of him and wishing the best. I am going up to Saskatoon next Wednesday. I will look here or try and contact you to make sure he is still there before I go, and hopefully have enough time to drop in and say 'hi'.
  22. Hey Al Nice to see you made it to this site! I still have my '89 but am dealing on a couple of others at the moment. Hope to get in a ride with you this year. I probably will be heading your way at least once for sure. Hope we can hook up.
  23. Everybody has their favorites. One of mine is a fellow called Oscar Lopez, best album is called flashback. Latin guitar music, but he only uses a single pick instead of picks on all fingers. It may not be your thing, but cruising through the Nelson, BC area for the Western Rally this year it would fit right in with the type of riding.
  24. I know this spot is further west and north than you were planning, but if you could make the 'Going to the Sun' highway between Kalispel and St. Marys, Mt it would be a memorable trip. It is in the Glacier Park, part of the Montana, BC, Alberta border area.

    Horns

Has anyone had any dealings with the following? http://www.hornsplusauto.com They seem to have fairly good prices but the phone # does not work. I did email them and received a return email stating they thought the phone # on the website had been changed. Obviously it hadn't. Would like some feedback before I decide to order. Thanks.
