  1. They are nice little cars. I've never owned one but use to rent them when I was in Northern California on business trips. One thing that I always remind people when they are looking at the 4 cylinders with near 100,000 miles though. It is going to be due a timing belt and tensioner in the very near future. Unless you do it yourself, be sure to figure about $1,000 - $1500 for that little maintenance item. Most are zero tolerance engines which means you will likely destroy the engine if the timing belt goes. That is an important maintenance item.
  2. I agree with you 100% about Apple's policy of trying to control what I do with my phone. That's why mine is jailbroken. Very simple to do and takes the Iphone out of Apple's control.
  3. I'm not sure if Skydoc has them or not. If not, Rick at Buckeyeperformance.com probably does.
  4. Here is an article about the finger incident. I didn't notice it but I was only half way paying attention. It was a decent show though. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/02/06/madonna-headlines-super-bowl-halftime-show/
  5. That one actually belongs to Jonas in Iceland but it is in my name and I keep it registered for him.
  6. No, it is fixed in one position.
  7. In Ohio, vehicle registration renewals are the same as your birthday. Mine will be coming up the first of March so I just went online and renewed them all. I think that registrations in Ohio are fairly reasonable compared to some states. I'm just curious what it costs all of you. I just renewed registrations for: 2011 Kia Sorento 2004 Chrysler Crossfire 1999 Royal Star Venture 2000 Royal Star Venture 20somthing Bushtec Trailer Total cost was $160.35 That included my option to add $1.00 to each one as a voluntary contribution to the Ohio vision program. How does this compare to what you pay in other states? The motorcycles were actually 28.87 each, the trailer was 20.87.
  8. I've got the same one on my bike. I really like the way it looks and it has worked very well.
  9. Belkin are a rip? I've always found them to be fairly reasonably priced. Now Monster Cable...THOSE are a rip. I agree with monoprice.com I've bought from them and got great prices, fast delivery and great quality.
  10. OK first of all, Spyderhead, I'm going to offer you a very mild scolding here. You should not have edited and removed your posts. When you post a question, you may not like all the answers that you get but it is stuff that we can all learn from. When you come back and delete your posts, it screws up the entire thread. Now when we read this thread, the answers don't mean much. You have to expect that when you ask a question here, not everybody is going to share the same opinions on the subject. So, here is the list of what you previously posted of the work that you had done. I'm putting my estimate of the hours that a dealership would have charged to do these jobs. Now we all know that some of these jobs take less time than I am estimating but I think that most dealership probably charge a MINIMUM of one hour. So most would charge at least an hours labor to do, for example, a carb sync. We all know that it can be done in 15 to 30 minutes but I don't think I've ever seen a report of a dealer doing it for less than $100.00 and some charge a lot more. So here are my estimates and this is based upon me having actually done or at least HELPED do all these jobs. adjust valves w/new valve cover gaskets 4 hours install the infamous grommets we discussed earlier new plugs 1 hour fuel filter 1 hour flush/fill coolant 1 hour flush/change brake fluid and clutch fluid (had never been done before) 1 hour synch carbs 1 hour tighten/repack steering head 3 hours 2 new Dunlop E3's 2 hours That adds up to 14 hours of labor. Now some of you may think that the 4 hours to adjust valves and the 6 hours to repack the steering head bearings is excessive. I don't think so though and if this had been the RSV, you could increase the time on the steering head bearings to about 6 hours. Now I don't know what the standard hourly shop rate is now but I would guess that $75.00 per hour is fairly typical. So, 14 X 75.00 = $1050.00. Now add the price of two Dunlop Elite 3 tires, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, brake and clutch fluid, coolant, grease and the typical shop supplies that they usually charge you for and you are quickly going to surpass the $1500.00 that you were charged. While I know that all this may sound high for those of us who do our own work, I don't think it is out of line at all for a dealer service. So Spyderhead, while there will obviously be some who don't agree with me on this, I think that if all those things were actually done, I think you got a pretty fair deal.

Iridium or Platinum will both work fine. I am running the Iridium in my '99 and have seen absolutely no difference in the way it performs or in fuel usage. They cost more and are supposed to last longer but to be honest, the Platinums last as long as I want to leave a set of plugs in. I would recommend that you save the money and just use the Platinums.
  12. Spyderhead, The fact that you have chosen to edit and delete all your posts indicate that you are upset with the responses that you have gotten. I haven't seen anybody attack you personally. It appears that the folks are just trying to help and let you know that you may have paid too much for the things that were done. I wish you would take the comments in the helpful manner that they are being offered. That being said, I too think that you may have paid a bit much but probably not that much more than most dealers would have charged you. Two of those things are big jobs. The valve adjustment and the steering head bearing repacks are time consuming. If both jobs were done properly, they could have spent as long as 8 - 10 hours on those two items. Multiply that by the average dealer shop rate and it will not be cheap. Add the price and installation of two Dunlop E3s and all the other things that you had done and I can easily see it coming to $1500.00 I'm sorry guys but I think you would find that if all that stuff was done and done correctly, it would come to that $1500.00 range most anywhere you take it. We are all just cost sensitive here because we do so much of our own work because we don't like paying that kind of money for service. I think to say that he was cheated or double charged is absolutely incorrect though.
  13. For any of you using a Mac or even some Mac programs. Just something to be aware of. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/02/04/apple-releases-major-security-update-for-os-x/?intcmp=features
  14. Unless something has changed, the guitar amp programs, Amplitude and Ampkit are only available for Iphone. I really like them though. They let you use your Iphone for a modeling amp. I use it in hotels. I just plug my guitar into my phone, select the amp model I want to use, put on a set of headphones or earbuds and jam away. You do have to buy a "dongle" that allows your guitar to plug into the Iphone.
  15. The mic on the RSV is ALWAYS hot. Push to talk is only for the CB. Intercom is hot all the time unless you have the Mic-Mute or some other cut-off devise installed. It doesn't matter if you are listening to audio or not...when the bike is running the mic is hot for intercom. Now if you never have a passenger, just turn the intercom volume all the way down and you should be fine.
  16. That's a good list. I have items 2, 4 and 5 on my Iphone. I don't have the Guitar Tuner because I have Amplitude, Guitar Toolkit and AmpKit which all have tuners built in. OK....most of my other favorites requite "jailbreaking" the Iphone. I jailbroke mine the day after it became available for the Iphone 4S. Automatically you get Cydia when you jailbreak. That gives you access to MANY new apps that Apple doesn't allow. So some of these are not available via the Apple App Store. Some that I have installed are: Guitar Toolkit Amplitude AmpKit PDANet TapaTalk Winterboard Ring.Tones SBSettings Convert Activator Camera+ IFile Craigslist Ebay PayPal Good for when I travel are Choice Hotels USPS Mobile
  17. OK smarty....there is no MANUAL safety that you would have to click on and off. Now if you want to get even MORE picky...I guess the trigger safety COULD be considered manual but you are going to automatically take care of that one when put your finger on the trigger and start squeezing it.
  18. That's correct and momentarily pressing either push to talk button, rider or passengers, will toggle both mics on and off. It's amazing how much quieter it is with the mics off and/or how much better your music sounds.
  19. Here is a pretty darn good video showing the installation of the Mic-Mute on a Honda Goldwing. Many of us here have the Mic-Mute on our Royal Star Ventures and I honestly think that it is one of the best things you can do to improve the audio system on these bikes. The installation is obviously different on the RSV but the components and operation is pretty much the same. On the RSV, you have to split the fairing but it's really a pretty simple installation. Also, we already have the passenger push to talk switch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvBfCKVT_PM&feature=player_embedded]Mic-Mutes Install on 2012 Honda Goldwing GL1800 - YouTube[/ame]
  20. A safety is not an issue with the Glock. There's NOT one.
  21. I meant to mention one other thing. You may notice that a Facebook cookie was NOT added to my computer. Fox News does indeed have Facebook and Twitter buttons or their pages so it apparently does not happen with all sites. It probably depends upon how each site implements the button and code. After posting those pictures, I played around a bit more. I picked up a LOT more cookies at various FoxNews pages. I never did pick up a Facebook cookie but I DID pick up a Twitter cookie.
  22. Well I tell you, in that price range, it looks like a pretty decent trailer. Aluminum frame, torsion axle, chrome wheels and a cooler rack. Not bad for that kind of money.
  23. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. I enabled "accept third party cookies" on my browser. I went to my usual home page, Fox News. I cleared all my cookies except for Fox News and VentureRider.org. The first picture shows my cookies at that point. Then I simply refreshed my browser page one time, still on my home page of Fox News and the the second picture shows the cookies that were added. I never left Fox News and have never visited any of those other sites. Note, this is even though I am opted out at the links I previously posted. Almost all major commercial websites to this.
  24. There are a LOT of advertisers that put cookies on your machine without you ever visiting their page. If you browse the internet with third party cookies enabled, you will many in a very short time. The only way to really block them is to block third party cookies and then ad exceptions for sites that you visit frequently that won't let you enter without cookies enabled. Companies like AdClick, DoubleClick, Adblade and MANY others place cookies on your machine all the time even though you never visit their sites. Though it is not well documented for obvious reasons, Google does offer some opt out options to opt out of many of the tracking cookies that companies put on your system. Here are a couple of links where you can do so. http://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb/?hl=en&hl=en&sig=ACi0TChQ-hI-sBOszjfv6d0UP63NCRXWIZlOVT-tnuc10EIGnAkCQvmRZTolihe_-3SuHWkFC_uRjxiYjQ-W2qYXB8mBPFQ1MQ&hl=en http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp# That being said, I do use Facebook and will continue to do so. I may not like everything that they do but at the same time, Facebook has allowed me to reconnect with some friends that I lost track of many years ago. There are a couple that I hadn't seen or heard from since the early 70's and though I had looked for them many times over the years, it was only through Facebook that I finally reconnected with them. I'm not extremely active on Facebook but I do have an account and I do use it.
  25. I don't think I have ever heard of that one. Do you have a link to their website?
