it looks like the TransCanada will be reopened on Friday to just one lane of traffic going in each direction. There will be 90 degree corners and lots of sand and gravel but they have a big highways crew in the area to get the road reopened. Even the Canadian Pacific Rail line got washed out at Medicine Hat AB. Here are some pics for todays paper http://www.leaderpost.com/Gallery+Flood+Maple+Creek/3181299/story.html http://www.leaderpost.com/Gallery+More+reader+photos+flood+around+Maple+Creek/3181483/story.html

Looking forward to having some laffs with you guys....lol

The noises youre talkiing about is exactly what happened to mine a couple of years ago at Venture West, snapped just behind the nut at the ujoint and then the pinion got out of align and took out the final drive gears totally. I hope its easier than that for you, but I am betting you will see something like this....... http://picasaweb.google.com/friesman1/85Venturerebuild_Nov11_08#5267995040305192498 Brian

YOU have buddies? .............................
-
Nope I wipe the outside of the vent first then do the back, sowhen you flip the vent down it lays flat like a tray for you to sweep them off. Brian

Hi Rick I have the Clearview on mine and I luv it! Sure a few bugs get into the vanes but your open the vent when washing and they just fall out!!! Plus it is darn nice to cool down on a hot day with the vent, I couldnt beleive how much difference it made. Check it out next week in Nelson, cause I am sure I will have some bugs on it, lol Plus sometimes on windy days, Ill crack the vent a bit and it seems to stop some of the buffetting. Brian

It looks like there is water everywhere in the Maple Creek SK. to Medicine Hat AB. area. Its deceving because its so flat out here. the water doesnt have any deep channels, but when it gets to a restriction like a hiway its just goes over top and washes out. There are 100's of houses flooded and some were washed away, but in slow motion. here is a clip of a small part of the Trans Canada outside of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan (and Ive never even really seen the creek flow there...lol) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6TIGApo1Iw]YouTube- Maple Creek flood 2010 Trans Canada Highway dissapears[/ame] THe Highways dept is projecting a year or more to get all the breaches fixed up and back to normal because of the sheer size of the flood plain. Its said this was a once in 500 year event. I guess its going to be even more fun getting to Nelson BC now... Brian

After a record setting spring for cool weather and rainfall we had a heavy rainfall last night and the rain has nowhere to go because we live on such a wide flat plain. The TransCanada hiway has been closed, forcing people to take a 200 km detour. They are actually evacuating a couple of smaller towns and their hospitals. I would recommend you avoid Southestern Alberta and SouthWestern Saskatchewan for the next couple of days. I will keep you posted when traffic will start flowing normally again. http://www.leaderpost.com/State+emergency+declared+Maple+Creek+after+reports+flood+waters+heading+towards+town/3171973/story.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2010/06/18/sk-flooding-1006.html Brian

Does kinda smell like an opportunity for someone that owns a G2 to do a group buy or set up sale pricing for the group.:whistling: Brian

Ah! i get it now! The oil that leaked out was engine oil so just check your engine oil in the site glass , but dont fill your engine oil over half full in the sight glass with the Bike sitting off the side stand and level. your clutch, transmission and engine all use your engine oil for lubrication, so there is only one spt to fill and drain. Gee Paul i was just wondering how u would know that brake fluid would dissolve the whole bottom out of a side bag......
-
There is a box attached to your clutch lever with 2 screws in the top. THe fluid is inside. But remove very carefully to avoid spilling on your plastic, as it will eat plastic very quickly. Do NOt fill to the top, never more than 3/4 full to aloow for expasion when the fluid heats up. If you fill it up when clutch gets warm the fluid will expand making your clutch slip. I would suggest buying speed bleeders and flushing your system if your fluid is brown. Brian

I think I got the last set of Squidleys brackets. -
Welcome to the "1985 Brownie is best" Club. I have the virtual twin to your bike but no chrome on the backside. You rs looks sweet! I would suggest that you may be missing the plastic deflectors that some people take out because they make it hard to work on the bike. I have noticed that mine gets hot on one leg or the other in very slight breezes when riding, and I usually ride with the venting closed on the side panels. Also there is a foil insulation on the backside of the plastic sidepanels, pehaps insulation is missing off one. I would change plugs as they do seem to foul occasionally on these bikes, and then see if you can get a spark from all the plugs. If not maybe trace the wire back and check the connection going to the sparkplug boot, and to the coil end for cracks and breakage. Then after ensuring spark fire it up and quickly and very carefully check the header pipes and see if they are all getting hot. (but be careful! these get hot quickly). There are lots of very knowlodgeable people in this forum who will offer a ton of knowledge to get you back up and running properly, so dont be afraid to ask questions, we all had our first |Venture and a time when we didnt know anything about them. Enjoy the bike!!!! Brian

It sux that youre going to miss MD, but you sure have your priorities in the right order!. Take care of the warden and yourself!!! -I am hoping the black cloud you guys are living under moves on fairly soon!... Brian

Rocket hooked mine up on my 85 a couple of years ago, and I am running 55 watt bulbs and have never had an issue. But in town, I do only run them at dusk and try to keep my revs above 3000, and according to my dash meter, I am still charging at about 13-14 volts On the highway i run the driving lights all the time just to be seen, they are an offbeat yellow colour that will be noticed. brian

send your hubby up for Kruisn the kootenays and then SilvrT can take him to work for a while so SilvrT can get more time off, and then hubby can ride out here for another few weeks to fill in for me at work so I can have more time off, and then everyone is happy!!!!! Seriously, its too bad youre not closer we have a real shortage of IT people around here we are always running short of people as the oil companies and such are snapping them up. Tell hubby I wish you both a quick and painless recovery!! Brian

Hey Bob, that looks fantastic! great job! Now I am just wondering how to get my lock cutting tools into my bike so we can get at your beer while we are at Nelson. (oh I get it now, you just want to have enuff space so you can come home with that cool lil remote control helicopter, dont worry we will help you drink the beer to make room.) Ride safe! Looking forward ta seeing you again in Nelson!! Brian

these things run like crap when the air box isnt sealed up tight, mine backfires and just runs terribly. I would also check your carb diaphrams, hold up to light and look for pin holes. if there maybe try liquid electrical tape, just brush it on. If its been sitting i would also give a about 1/2 bottle of seafoam in a tank of gas, run it hard until the gas is down and that should clean all the gunk out of your carbs. good luck they are good bikes, but ya gotta ride em Brian -
Hey Randy i am glad that youre ok and had your close call, and as unnerving as it is, it was was better than reading you had hit one of those brainless, unpredictable, venison bags. Brian

Well we did have some nice weather early spring and we were into 80s then, but in the last month its been UGLY!!! And for the record its not a heat wave around here until its over 32C or mid 90s F for more than 3 days running, lol! Brian
-
Not this year Rick, Normally out in here in the prairies by now we are into High 20's C or 80's F every day and lots of sun, but this year its been nothing but wet and cold!! we actually had a frost warning a couple of nights ago!! thats crap! I am really hoping for the sun and heat like we had at Kruisn last year!!! I need to get warmed up and dried out!! (no, not that kind of dried out,,,,,,well mabbe not until after Kruisn!!) Brian
