GWRRA....thinking of joining, any thoughts on this group?
tazmocycle replied to 1BigDog's topic in Watering Hole
I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS THAT ARE IN THE GWRRA AND THEY DO HAVE A LOT OF RIDES AND FUN AT THEIR MEETS. a close friend started a new chapter here and he make sure everybody has a good time and he keeps a close watch and deals with anything that comes up with his chapter. i think that is the right way to do it. in 2000 i had a 82 wing and 99 v-star 65o and was invited by a gwrra member thats was a friend of mine to see if i wanted to join. i rode my v-star to the meet and nobody would even talk to me even thro i was with my friends, until they told them who i was and 'THAT I HAD A GOLDWING'. went i left i told them i wouldn't be joining because of the way i had been greeted at first. i have found out thru the years that about all of the BRAND NAME CLUBS ARE LIKE THAT if you don't have the kind of bike they all have in common, you are treated differant(gwrra, star touring, hog and bmw- ones i have delt with). you can always give it a try and see how it is and then decide(some will let you attend a few ride without being a member). -
we made it home about 5:30, had a great time meeting everyone and visiting together. heres a few more. i counted 21 folks and 15 bikes.

Tour Classic Saddlebags
tazmocycle replied to iquester's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
there was a company in Ga that use to sell a lot of new yamaha bags on e-bay but haven't seen him lately. sometimes you can google and may find some. the tans are rare and hard to find. big #1 yamaha has a new black set about 6 yrs now and last time i talked to them he said he would take $500 &taxes for them. good luck -
dang! i didn't know you had a venture tooo. when did you move up? the tc is still fun to ride around on tho!! will you be on it sunday??
-
keep an eye on e-bay for venture or tour deluxe bags as they come up from time to time. here's a e-bay store i get parts from and get good service. always checkout the e-bay store dealer as all their parts don't come up ever time you look for them. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc_Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star_W0QQ_fsubZ5820835QQ_sidZ12458664QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14?_pgn=41 the venture bags will be a lot easier to put on than trying to install the road star bags as they are smaller and a completely differant mount up framing. i put midnight venture bags on my '01 royal star after having the smaller bags on it.

i had a friend ran irc tires on his sporter, and they are ok, just don't last long. try motorcycleproshop.com or swmoto.com somebody else bought out swmoto but i think you came find them. i found on some site they only list what must be there best selling tires and not the whole avon stock of tires. you can do a search for avon tire and get their main site and look at all their stock and find a dealer too! looks to me that you may have ran too much air in your old tire, i always watch mine as i ride and see how it's wearing across the threads, if the middle is wear fast, there's too much air and if it's wearing off the sides more too little air. i do this on all my vechiles, because the weight load added to the vechile wt. flattens out your tires more and requires more air. even at work the shop that puts on our truck tires only put 40-45#s of air in our heavy duty tires and the mfd's calls for 50#s in front and 80#s in rear (THEY DON'T EVEN PUT HEAVY DUTY VALVE STEM BACK IN WHEN THEY CHANGE THEM OUT, regular stem rated at 60#s and heavy duty at 100#s) and they wear out quick. i have brought this to the shop and boss at work attention, but they still do it. i guess they want to keep bussiness going. http://www.avontyres.com/motorcycle

well, surgery went good. woke up with strecthing machine on and working. tues night got me up and took a couple of steps. wed woke up hurting a little hit the pain pump, afternoon they took off pain pump, pt found they had put boot on upside down and not on tabs to hold in place. after sitting up in chair a couple of hrs, got backin bed and they put strecther back on and started it up. something went wrong and it was almost lifting me up out of the bed. felt like it was tearing my body in two, susan got it stopped and several nurses came running in because the moniter had showed my ox2 level had gone into the 50s(thought i had thrown a blood clot). go some more pain pills for the pain, and got off to sleep. got out fri around noon and been doing ok since, have pt on mon at 2 pm see how they think i'm doing. i'm walking around pretty good.

Black Buildup in muffler
tazmocycle replied to fardnarger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
you need to put a whole can of techron additive to a full tank of gas, take it out and run it hard as you can for the whole tank, keeping the rpms up high. it should clean out all the carbon gunked up in it, and then change your oil afterwards and you will problly see a lot of carbon in the oil. even the road stars are having carboning up problems also, as a friend of mine works at a yamaha dealer and said they are seeing a lot of bikes coming in with lot of carbon buildup and don't know what to do about it. -
thanks to all my family here! my legs really starting giving me trouble since i had my wreck in 05, they had hurt before but not bad enough to do anything serious. had planned to do it last year but didn't have disablty ins., so i put it off and starting first of '09 company started paying for it, so i figured it was a good time to go for it. got a good doc to do the operations and susan has known him for several year from the hospital she works at. he was a orth. doc in the army in first iraqi war and seen and worked on a lot of bad cases there. i'll keep ya'll posted as it goes along, thanks again, don. randy- that's the pic you took, turned out good.

well susan's ins comp. said they are dropping me at the first of the year, so on sept 29th, i'm going ahead and have my knee done and after recooping from it, i'm have my left leg fixed where it didn't mend after i broke it in my venture wreck in '05. it'll take about 5 or 6 weeks to recoop from my complete right knee replacement. on left, doc will take out old rod or nail as he calls it, ream out the bone and drive a bigger nail in. then he will clean out around the break where it didn't heal and put bone stem back around it to help it heals. 4-6 weeks recoop from that. i'll be out about 3 months if nothing goes wrong on either surgery or therapy. i do have short term disabilty that pays 60% of my pay and i have some vacation days to cover the first 7 days that it don't cover. have been putting back a little $s to carry me over hopefully. hope all goes well and i can still ride after it's all over, wish me well. thanks for your support, don.

vance, go to youtube.com and enter tazmocycle and you can hear my royal star with sampson fishtail on it. i like the sound, LIKE A V-8 WITH GLASSPACKS and they're not too loud for me. i gave $400 for mine new so you might try to talk him down. if you get them and don't like them you can probly sell them and get your money back, most sets i've seen on e-bay sells without any trouble.

water heater 101! there are several differant types of water heater- 11o volt or 220 volt, single element or dual element. single elements are easy to work on! only one element and thermostat to deal with!! dual element: when you first start up the heater, the top t-stat puts power to the top element and brings the water up to temperture set on t-stat, then the top t-stat sends the power down to the bottom t-stat, which puts power to lower element and brings water up to temperture set on bottom t-stat. then it shuts off till you start using water and the bottom element comes on till it heats water back up or if you use a lot of water up and the top t-stat clicks on and shuts off lower and brings on top element. most times the top element is the one that burns up and you run completely out of hot water. first thing to do is to check the top two wires on element to see if there's 220 volts on the top element, if it is there, then the top element is "probly" bad. from there it's a hunt and try to find the right cause to fix it. look to see if there's a booklet on the heater, which should have a trouble shooting guide in it to help you out. you can probly go to your power provider's web site and find ome imfo on it too. hope this help you out, don.

i use to double lock allen set screws on sprockets on drive units at work to make sure they didn't come loose. i use 2 shorter set screws just like the 2 locknuts on the neck bearings, locking first one down and then locking the second one on top of first one. or just use thread loctite to do the job. o'course the drive i worked on was 3/4" or 1" set screws and had 10 to 20 hp motors turning them, lot of torque on start-up.

i'm not going to be long on my reply, but i went thru some S#@# likethis with my 2nd wife, calls all times of the day about debts. i went to all 3 credit bureaus and put a block on my credit reports stating, if any call for credit apps for anythings comes in, that they personally call me at my home or cell # before giving out your ratings. also have some pass word before giving it out. it puts a hardship on you when buying items you want but it safegaurds your credit. you can also block random credit report given out to junk mailer of your credit rating( the 20 cc or ins offers you get a week in the mail). after 7 years of hassles it's been 3 years of bliss. do the lawfull thing to protect yourself. hope things work out for you and thanks for your service to our country!!

well on most vechiles, the front brakes do about 75% of the braking, looks like the camper when it got up on the bike it probly lost traction of the front wheels as i see it from him crossing across all lanes from not being able to steer it.

i'm home! went down to see susan at her mom's and brought her home with me. had a great time again seeing old friends and meeting new ones. thanks to brian, rick and marilyn for letting me crash on their tent site. thanks to all that had a hand in bringing it together, mostly for the kids at st. jude's and for their benifit while dealing with the hard facts of life, that noone should have to deal with. it's always good to have fun and help others while doing it. hope to see all soon again, don.

HELP - Looking for technical advice VSTAR 1100
tazmocycle replied to Lone Eagle's topic in General Tech Talk
http://forums.delphiforums.com/yamaha1100/start checkout this forum for the advice on her problems, lots of great guys there. maybe able to find someone close to you to help on working on it. my wife has an 06 and haven't had any probles with it. checkout the shifter and see if it's binding on the bolt holding it on. it may also help to go to syn. oil in it, i use mobil 1 10 w 30 in susan's and it helps with the shifting and running. checkout thr exhaust pipe's bolt holding it on to the heads to see if they are loose, they have to take the lower pipe off to install the oil filter unless somebody has put the oil filter re-locater kit on it and it has a spin-on filter. hope this helps some, don. -
hear today that his viewing will be on sunday, and he will be interned at the new national cementry here in montevallo at american village. it just opened up about a month ago, and i think he will be about number 4 interned there. he served in the army during vietnam, glad he will have a great place to rest. american village is a nonprofit teaching area with many building of early colonial days and up. they do tours for schools and have a big event for 4th of july, even a guy dressed up like George Washington on a white horse. the school kids have a great time visiting it and so does most people that loves early USA history. thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, they are a comfort in this time of sorrow.

Carb Overhaul Costs & Jetting
tazmocycle replied to Greeny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/start this web site is mainly for the 96-01 standard royals with the smaller carbs and there's several mods you can do to your's to bust the power up some. i just had a eat and tinker in columbus, ms and did a set of carbs for a friend. if youdo it right your mpg won't change much at all. i get around 42 mpg with mine all the time when i leisurely ride it, but goes down a few mpg when i twist the throttle. you can read about the process on the start page of v-4 rocks forum. as stated before you may need a good carb sync, but some shops can't do it right. i checked a 98 tc that had been synced about a couple months earlier and they were the most screwed up set i've seen in 9 yrs. the bike smoothed out and started idling smoothly. if you look just below the chrome diaphram cover for a little brass plug with a tiny hole in it, your carbs have never been missed with or if you see an adjustment screw in it(prime mixture screws or pms), they have been adjusted. the k&n filter will help out some on you bike. there maybe some guys near you that can check out the sync of your carbs and see if that helps you out or you can attend the prk in the pines rally on labor day and get it done there and meet a lot of nice people oof this forum there. -
Rev Limiter Limits
tazmocycle replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
the ventures 99-present and 05-present tour deluxe has the double springs and can take the higher rpms. i have an 01 standard royal which has the single valve springs and have mine set on 7000 rpms and never had any problems at 67,000 miles on it now. i run it hard most of the time since i've had it. SO GO AHEAD AND HAVE SOME FUN OUT THERE BUT BE CAREFUL!! -
i have had to replace the headlite plug on my 01 royal star and my wife's 06 v-star 1100 due to it melting. my royal had the silverstar bulb but my wife's had stock bulb in her's, so i think it's just a loose connection problem. i just took the one off a wrecked royal i have and replaced it and it's doing fine now. you can problly find one at autozone to fix your's. the wires seems to be a little small to me, but the one i put back in had bigger wires on it.
