Inexpensive & Easy to Install XM Radio
heartofdixie replied to heartofdixie's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Yes, I did have to subscribe to XM. -
I found a XMsnap radio at Best Buy on the day after Christmas for $19.99 and decided to see if it would work in the DC outlet in the fairing. Since I had already split the audio input, there was a 3.5mm plug to use for the audio output of the XM radio. In short, this radio works great. All I had to do was locate the included antenna, plug it and the audio cable into the XMsnap and plug the unit into the DC outlet. Quick & easy and it sounds great. See pictures.

Don't worry. This is legit. I ordered one several weeks ago and have been very pleased with it.

Kirby, The venturemp3 unit works like a champ. Yes, when you turn off the bike, the unit turns off as well. When you turn it back on it starts right where it left off. It also pauses the music when you switch to another source such as AM, FM or AUX. The sound quality is great. Even though it cost me $185, it's still less expensive than the iSimple unit. Also,it does not require an iPod and displays the actual folder (CD) and song number playing(unlike the iSimple that just displays 1-1 no matter what song you're playing). Now, if only someone would make a similar adapter for an XM tuner. David

I ordered a VentureMP3 unit about ten days ago and received it on Tuesday. I installed it yesterday afternoon and I have to say I am impressed. The cable that is supplied plugs into the CD plug in the fairing and is long enough to run to the trunk, which is where I installed it. The head unit is a little larger than a pack of cards and allows you to use a SD card or a USB flash drive as the storage device. You basically set up six folders (that correspond with the six CDs that the system will recognize) with up to ninety-nine songs in each folder - 594 total. The handlebar control unit displays the folder number and the song number (song #4 on folder #3 would display as 4 -3). I think this is better than the display system with the iSimple unit that Yamaha is now supplying. Only drawback is the price. I paid 123 euros which at the time was equivalent to $185. But it did include everything except the SD card. It has worked without a hitch and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Jim, Thanks. If I can find a used trim ring at a reasonable price, I may try it.

Just curious - has anyone painted the plasti-chrome headlight trim to match the color of their bike? If so, I would like to see pictures.

I've owned a '08 charcoal/silver RSTD and now I own a '08 charcoal RSV. Although, with my compulsions to by stuff for the motorcycle, I think it owns me.

Can you take the emblem off the cassette door without messing up the door? If so, how do you do it?

Dennis, I hope you like it as much as I like mine. It's much more comfortable to me than the stock seat. Since Mustang has no plans to make a cover for the Venture passenger backrest, I got them to sell me a couple of yards of the vinyl they use for the seats. Unless anybody on this board knows of a someone that can make a cover, I'll find somebody locally that can. David
