  1. Prayers sent for all of you. The Lord is always with you!
  2. Heated grips help to a point. They are more convenient, allowing you to wear gloves that are not so bulky, so you can still operate controls easier. When the temps get really cold, they are not enough. Heated gloves do a more thorough job of keeping your hands warm at lower temperatures. They also are bulky and they tie your hands to the bike.
  3. Keep in mind that there is a Kindle app for iPad, so all Kindle books can be bought for the same price and used on iPad.
  4. That review of the Archos 5 seems to be all about how it doesn't work very well and falls short of the iPod Touch. Now take into consideration that the iPod Touch is slower and less capable than the iPad.
  5. Sorry, Tom, but you are completely wrong about the PDF file compatibility. You can view online PDFs, click on PDF attachments in emails, load them on the iPad in the free iBooks app, etc. etc. (Sent from my iPad at a Dunkin Donuts)

    E-85 gas

Before you delete all of this, do you have a link to Al Gore's statement? Sounds interesting.

    E-85 gas

We keep hearing that it takes more than a gallon of oil to bring a gallon of ethanol to the fuel pumps. If that is true then it should be no surprise that E85 is more expensive than E10 unless some subsidy artificially lowers the price of E85, which wouod mean that we just pay for it some other way or toss it onto the debt heap.
  8. Can you even see my iPad in its case, in my RSV trunk?
  9. H7616 bulbs are an alternative. They are much brighter than the stock lamps. They have a narrow spot beam that can light up the road well ahead of the bike. They draw even more power than the stock lamps -- 37.5 watts each, I think -- but combined with the HID headlamp that draws 20 watts less than stock, that is okay. H7616 lamps do not interfere with the radio, as the GreenBoat LED lamps do. I won't give up the radio. When I am at home and using the bike for daily commuting, I want the radio for the news and music other than playing my same collection all of the time. When I am traveling, I like to hear the local stations of the places that I am passing through -- it's part of the traveling experience that I enjoy. If it were necessary to choose between the radio and decent safety lighting, the decision would be harder, but it is not necessary to make that choice. An HID headlight combined with H7616 passing lamps provides very good visibility and also lights up the road very well. Positioned on either side of a 6000K HID headlight, the H7616 lamps do look yellow. I don't care. Their function is far more important than my nit-picky vanity. I can't see that anyway, because I am sitting behind them. Here is how I use my HID headlight and H7616 passing lights: Aim the HID headlight properly for low-beam use, which is how it is used most of the time at night. Aiming the passing lamps is harder, but can be done with some frustration and trial and error. Aim the left passing lamp just slightly higher than the low-beam headlight and turn it inward, so it does not point at oncoming cars. Ami the right-side passing lamp a little higher than the left one, and point it straight ahead or just slightly outward to the right, so it lights up the side of the road. With the passing lamps aimed this way, if the headlight is on low beam then the passing lamps extend the reach of light and also light up the side of the road. If the headlight is on high beam, then the passing lamps fill in closer, while the headlight is illuminating the distant road.
  10. FM was affected. I never use AM and didn't try CB. Aux to my Zumo was not affected.
  11. If these are the same LED driving lamps that I tried, you may find that they interfere with the radio. Please try out your radio with strong and weak stations and let us know. I gave up on the LED driving lamps that I tried because I want to hear the radio. I went back to H7616 lamps, which are pretty powerful as well as power-consuming. If I could get these low-power-consuming LED lamps to work without killing radio, then I would definitely switch to them.
  12. I put my dingy yellow, high-power-guzzling H7616 lamps back in. The LED lights are bright, white and low power consuming, but they make the radio useless.
  13. No TV. Life priorities are so much clearer without it.
  14. Devices connected through the Aux are not affected. The music from my Zumo 660 through the Aux port and the sound from my cell phone (connected by Bluetooth to the Zumo which is connected through Aux) work fine. Certainly weaker/more distant FM radio stations are more affected than stronger/closer ones, but that is irrelevant to fixing the problem, since we are not going to get the radio stations to double their signal strengths. These lights would be so great to have and use if only the did not ruin the radio!
  15. It's not the HID bulbs that we're having problems with. It's the LED driving lamps. I did have radio interference from my HID headlight when I first installed it. I told the people at HID Country and they sent me a different ballast that eliminated the problem. I wish the problem with these LEDs would be that simple to solve.
  16. How close/strong are your stations? Since you are in Jacksonvile, have you tried some stations from Gainesville? Try them with the LED lights on and with them off.
  17. I fixed a Zumo 550 touch screen a few months ago. The parts are available on eBay for about $20, including shipping. Search on Zumo 550 touch screen .
  18. What's wrong with it?
  19. I just put a set on. They kill the radio.
  20. Go through the Audio options until you get to SP, then press the Up button on the rocker switch. HS doesn't come up *after* SP, but while you have SP displayed, then push the rocker button -- the one that goes up and down, left of the screen.
  21. Have you tried Saran Wrap? Some folks have a sofa that is always covererd in plastic. Not very comfortable to sit on, 'though.
  22. Snow and die would be diffent. We get one or two days of that per year. In Jacksonville, Florida -- very unlikely.
  23. I plan on going to work / church / store and other places every day, just like at any other time of year. I cant stay at home just because it's cold,so I'll ride every day, as usual. I do plan to wear more layers of clothes.
  24. If you want a bike to work on, then you need to get one that works poorly in the first place. Bikes that already work well are for riding, not for fixing.
  25. I eagerly await the invention of the new Carbon One (or perhaps someone else?) oil drain sucker straw. How about it?
