  1. I got the adjustment knob off, rubber gasket off & the female electrical plug off > now I see a "u" shaped spring holding the bulb in the headlight. I do not understand the instructions elsewhere of how turning the bulb 90 degress to the left will free it from the u shaped spring! or how long needlenose pliers help!
  2. Hurricane Fay has been an unwelcomed intruder into FL for the past week! When she came to north FL 3 days ago and shut the county down, I spent 2 very enjoyable days in my garage & completed 3 installs on my 01 red Venture that I never had the time to tackle! The rack & guards are typical but the driver's backrest was a challenge! A few weeks ago I had a Kawasaki 1600 Vulcan Nomad in my garage and was very impressed with the substantial passenger back rest (sissy bar pad). That same day I happen to check for similar items on ebay and found and bought a new/used one off an 07 Vulcan for $40.00! It feels great while sitting on it in the garage but whenever Fay decides to leave us alone I will be excited to get the RSV out on the road with the new goodies on her! Next will be the tach, xenon H4 bulb, the votage thingamajig so I can add more lighting, etc, etc :>) Having trouble uploading photos here but here are some on this link: http://ebay-misc-auctions.blogspot.com/2008/08/dads-rec-stuff.html
  3. so far tried hair drier, paint remover gel, lacquer thinner and suggestions here using oven cleaner, Wd40, carburetor cleaner and open flame. Have not tried mayo or peanut butter ! The rag & iron sounds interesting - but any more experiments will have to wait till monday.
  4. I posted a photo on my 1st post so you can see the way it was packaged - no its not glued on - yes melted might be more accurate than the plastic stuck on it.
  5. I got a good deal on ebay for chrome passing lamp shields. It is new old-stock so the plastic wrap ended up stuck to the metal. I tried paint stripper, heat from hair dryer & soaking in laquer thinner to no avail. Anyone have a method that might work?
  6. All mine wobble or wobbled - that is - my 2001 RSV, 2007 RSV, 2004 Sbare, 1995 Vulcan 800 and the most recently aquired 2006 Vulcan 1600 - they all do or did. They all had different tires, shields or fairings or lack there of. That spans the last 12 years for me and & can't remember the previous 30 years! Now I see many "crotch rockets" where people are all over the bike EXCEPT the handle bars and they do not wobble. Just my observations.
  7. I replaced my 01's rear turn sigmals with a pair of front ones that I bought from cliffrue.com and sold the used ones on ebay - so the swap was not that expensive. I got the red lenses from cruiser (for about $10 - I think) to replace the amber. So now the bike has 2 additional RED tail lights & blinkers on each side of the stock tail light.
  8. I bought this off ebay from a regular vender. I was very disappointed in the quality of the "finishing". Before I bought this one, I asked on this forum about a cheaper "after-market" version for $80 on ebay. Consensus was that it did not have the 4 supports and others had their trunk lids crack as a result. So I paid more and got the "Yamaha" accessory. The factory pic used by 3 retailers is the same - NO detail options to zoom in. I am posting here with pics I took to find out if others who have this rack can tell me if this one has defective or left over weld marks on the 2 front curved legs at the female ends where it mounts onto the lid. The 2 straight rear legs are finished properly. Thanks for looking!
  9. Ferrantelli - I read that before - now it is on my blog site - thanks http://bumperguy.blogspot.com/2008/06/prime-minister-john-howard-australia.html
  10. Mariner Fan - oh yeah - you found me out! Still have my daily commute - the 01 RSV - love it to pieces even with the squeaky front brakes and the loud whinning drive train! The Nomad will be a novelty and a temporary fixture in the garage. We will play with it for 30 days or so - drive it to work - take the little woman to dinner - visit a few important people in my life - still like the chug chug of the v twin. Then onto ebay to find a new home for it!
  11. saddlebum - please be more specific - like how & where did you 'apply' this?
  12. Did I screw up or is it a good trade - not the money - but the difference in the 2 bikes - pros or cons? I traded my 07 RSV with 1.6K miles on it for Kawasaki 1600 Nomad with 6.6K miles on it, + about 50% of my selling price in cash? Any opinions?
  13. My 01 has the city bus noise on the front brake. My 07 has no brake sound issues.
  14. Just wondering where is all the wiring on the RSVTD that is in the upper fairing on the RSV? The radio/player is obvious - so the TD does not have intercom & cruise and what else? Anyone know?
  15. big red - that's interesting that you also notice how you have to push your 2000 into the turns like my 2001. So the Dunlops changed the handling? How was it before with what brand tire? If it is not the tires then it appears that Yamaha made some sort of change between 2001 and 2007 which makes my 07 begging me to scrape the floor boards - but I'm still too cautious (chicken?) but my 01 tells me to slow down and take er easy old man!
  16. The HAND levers are different and feel better on the 07. To be honest - I never had in my mind a debate about Bridgestone vs Dunlop when I posted. I was simply stating what the difference was between the 2 bikes and that they had these 2 different tire manufacturers which was only part of the "unbiased" facts! I drove both today - and for the life of me I do not know why but the 07 feels less top heavy even sitting still right in the garage. Would the tires affect that? I think not. The fact that I can sweep right into the tight turns on the 07 where the 01 fights me is a mistery to me.
  17. There is a difference between loud pipes and loud riders. I have 2 RSVs - 1 stock muffs & other has fish tails. The staight pipes are loud IF I make them loud. At low rpms they are relatively quiet. On the other hand, I have a neighbor who has straight pipes on his HD. He constantly blips the damned noisy thing in the neighborhood coming and going. In the old days, bliping was necessary to keep the sorry old time magneto engines from stalling out in a turn or at a stop. Today it is just IMMATURE even for these old guys riding these damned loud bikes. Sure - let it rip out on the open road - but it really only shows ones very low mentallity to constantly blip the damned noisy thing in a quiet neighborhood where one lives! F**k the neighbors - but I'm cool ---- NOT!!!
  18. OK V7Goose, "ergonomics" is not the correct term - but as the pics show there is a difference and it is quite noticeable!
  19. Yamaha Royal Star Venture - Models 2001 vs. 2007 (I have my 2007 RSV listed here in the classified - but maybe some people might find this little blurb of mine interesting?) One year ago I never thought that I could afford to ever own Yamaha Royal Star Venture. Today I own and ride 2 of them! PTL! A short note here to let the reader know the differences that I have experienced riding each. Handling 07 - Better in maneuvering from pushing it around in the garage or a parking lot to the open road. Both have 40 lbs air in both tires. 01 has Dunlop, 07 has Bridgestone tubeless tires. But there is more to it than handing, When I stop with the 07 at a light it stops straight as an arrow. The 01 is more difficult to balance for some unknown reason. In the turns/curves at highway speed, the 01 has to be pushed because it always wants to correct itself and stand upright. The 07 just loves them and allows a faster rate of speed with more confidence of the rider (me!). Transmission/drive train 07 - is much less noisy - in fact a very pleasant sound emanates from the powerful V4. I decided to put loud fishtail pipes on the 01 to distract from its annoying whining. the 07 shifts crisper and easier. The 07 engine seems to rev a little higher before the governor kicks in. Comfort About the same except that the 07 has better ergonomics in the shift & brake levers which are wider and more comfortable than the narrower 01's. Suspension 07 - feels better over the bumps, not much, but my wife & I noticed the difference when we rode the 07 again after riding the 01 for several monhs. Braking 07 - no squeak/squeal of the front brake and seems like less effort and a smoother stop than the 01. Keep in mind that there are only 500 more miles on the 01 than the 07!
  20. Old man Wood - In your photos, I see the difference in the performance of the Sylvania head light vs the stock OEM. The stock passing light have lenses which disperse the ligh beam horizontally. When I used a halogen spot light/lens the beam was bright but it went out straight in front of the bike. The stock lenses light up more of the shoulder of a 2 lane road. What is your experience - anyone?
  21. I am thinking that the carb heaters act similar to what mechanics do with high performance racing engines and now also for fuel economy for better dispersion into the cylinders and more efficient burning of the fuel?
  22. I'll chime in here too - when I asked about the whine in my 01 RSV (out of warranty - but only 2K mi on it!) dealer tech rep manager said that he never heard of an RSV having any problems with whining noises. I thought that to be strange since this site is filled with RSV owner's who have this whine problem! But then again - how many RSV do they sell compared to the rest of their lower priced inventory? He did "accomodate" me by looking at Yamaha recall records via the VIN of my 01. He also told me that it was $100 labor to install a rear tire and that I would have to leave it all day in his shop. He explained, to justify his price & time, that both bags and mufflers needed to come off - which was very time consumming. Lets see now - there are something like 4 bolts on the bag and 2 on the muffler - plus only 1 side needs to come off not both sides. It proves to me he was either trying to gouge my check book or he was not familiar with the RSV!
  23. I took my baby apart to repaint. This part was left over anyone know what it is & where it should go?
