  1. royalstarjac - If you can can you get me the sellers ID - PLEASE PLEASE!!
  2. I can bend it back (more) and line up the mounting holes (maybe) - BUT - there are 2 indents/buckles in the upper & lower tubes near the frame mounting tabs that are obvious to the keen eye - which is what I do not want on this bike. This part new is $200 (+/-) from either Bike Bandit or Cliff Rue and I would think that the Yamaha dealer would want even more! There are none on ebay today nor Pinwall Cycles. So I thought I would check with other riders here on the forum. As flimsy as this piece is, finding a used one that is not bent might not even be that possible unless I find a non-wrecked bike that is being parted out which again is rare.
  3. I am in need of a 2nd generation (1999 to 2008) engine guard for the right side that is NOT bent (like mine!) without having to pay the new price. Any one have one available? You can send me private email or post here. Thanks!
  4. I paid about $85 from Circuit City for the Polk 401 which are the replacement for the 400. I did get the speakers mounted into the fairing finally yesterday. Once the nuts were off then it was a matter of very gently prying with a very small screw driver & wiggling the speaker grilles which have the bolt heads secured in them. I also drilled the mounting holes out larger because they were just not lining up. The Polk speakers sound great. Before 20 on the volume knob caused 1 OEM speaker to rasp. Now it can be cranked up to 30 and 25 is very adequate. Since I am running fish tails I need the extra volume. Thanks for all the advice posted here!
  5. Never got feed back here or found the forum - BUT - I did get the speakers replaced soon after my post here. Once the nuts were off then it was a matter of very gently prying with a very small screw driver & wiggling the speaker grilles which have the bolt heads secured in them. The Polk speakers sound great. Before 20 on the volume knob caused 1 OEM speaker to rasp. Now it can be cranked up to 30 and 25 is very adequate. 6. I got the nuts off but not sure what to do next to remove the front speakers. Somewhere there is a detailed procedure that I reviewed a few weeks ago with pics but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where the post might be hidden here in this forum?
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=84147&viewitem=&item=130213466687 also here: http://ebay-auctions-garage-sales.blogspot.com/2008/02/left-rear-or-saddlebag-guard-royal-star.html
  8. I am selling some 2nd gen RSV parts on EBAY. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZdennishka I have an 07 muffler for sale. I was asked can it fit an 1983 Royale. I know that they are different and that Yamaha does not make them any longer. Does anyone know if there is a thread here and if the 2nd gen muffs can be adapted for use on the 1st gens?
  9. flb_78 Maybe you posted here - - -soooo much to read to find any real facts - if any at all!!! -- what pressure in CT & how does it absorb the bumps vs MT?
  10. I read 'dark side' article. Anyone try different size than 155/80R15 on RSV? Or maybe this is 'the' right size for RSV? I'm ready to give it a try!
  11. Maineac - there is no name on the fishtails but they have the necessary bracket welded on to mount them on the RSV rear bag support/frame rail. They came off an 06 posted on ebay. Good as new. I could see light through them but about 1/2 way in the pipe there is metal piece that blocks about 50% of the passage. After I first put them on I found myself riding to max out the exhaust notes. I've calmed down a bit, even though I blew away a souped up ford mustang from several red lights commuting home from work last night. I couldn't resist doing it! The exhaust rumble running down the highway overcomes that annoying gear whine. I will probably put the stocks back on when we do a long haul a time or 2 this season. Hope to get the Polks on this weekend to see if they override the fishtails enough without blowing them out.
  12. with the OEM Clarion I got a raspy sound in right front when I turned up the volume so I wanted to replace that one at least. Now with one bad one in the 07 RSV that I am rebuilding, I will use the good one from my 01. I will end up with a good pair for the 07 and one bad pair which will go into the trash. I got the Polk 401 @ circuit City today which will replace the bad pair in my 01 daily rider. After I installed straight fishtails, I really need the extra amps to crank up the volume just so I can hear without blowing out the speakers - that is my goal! To be honest I do not use the radio much but once in a while I listen to talk shows and occasionally some tunes. My lady says she can't hear the tunes in the rear since I put the straight pipes on.
  13. The links below on speakers are a great help! since I need some parts for the 07 which I will swap from the 01 and get new Polk 400's or 410's for the 01.
  14. the standard speaker is 15 watts. anyone ever upgrade to 20 or 30 watts? if so where get them? (sorry - originally posted amps + I am rebuilding a broken 07 and riding an 01 RSV) need a front speaker grill - right side - any one have an extra?
  15. like all RSV colors, there is the "speckle" in the black paint - other wise I could get a can of black at walmart
  16. Steve - what's a PPG? I was ready to order a qt for like $178 + shipping then color rite recommends clear coat so that another $70 bucks or so + ship. Not sure how much I need. Maybe someone can give advice? I am refurbishing an 07 with 1400 mi that had a mishap by another driver - not me. I will be attempting to paint the plastic ABS upper front fairing, both leg cowlings, one saddle bag, rear box & lid, and rear armrest/speaker. Bike was blue/black. It will be all black when I am done. I am taking file photos as I tear it apart so I can see how to put humpty dumpty back together again! I will also have after pics. I can put many of them here for others to see if they need to know what is behind door A or door B etc after my project is complete.
  17. they do have paint a way bit pricey!!!
  18. anyone know where one can buy aerosol spray paint or maybe quarts to use in spray gun for original color 2nd gen RSV?
  19. Thanks for all the input here. The inner fairing was in the way and hitting female end of my allen wrench socket and swivel joint for my drive was out in front of the fairing - - - so that did NOT work. And I also DID follow instructions and the outer fairing is even lower than the inner and it was worse trying to tighten the allen head bolts. The instructions should be written to put the assembly together and leave the nacelle dangling withOUT the bulbs in. It is lighter and less chance of dropping and shattering the bulbs. The bulbs have to be taken out anyway to adjust for the desired angle/alignment. I will be buying a tap this Sat! Thanks for that info!
  20. yeah the ones that came off are metric screws of course BUT are the threads in the bar metric???? why don't they screw in? I already have the bar on the bike and forget about taking the danged thing off because it took me 2 eves to get it on - what a royal pain!!! I had to bend the allen wrench so it would go under the fairing so I could tighten the bar mount bolts!! Forget about taking the fairing on or off without screwing around with that terribly designed passing lamps contraption!! They look great and I hope that they perform as expected - but what a terrible design for installing AND adjusting the lamps and the directionals. I would have done better if I did not read the terrible instructions. DO NOT put the lamps on BEFORE you put the bar on!! It just makes the whole thing heavier and you have to take the lamps off anyway to get the fairing back on. Also use double sided tape to stick the spacers on or else you need 2 more hands!!!
  21. Does anyone know anything about installing these? If you do, why do the 4 threaded holes (female) on the light mounting bar for the wind deflectors not take the stock screws that I took off the original Yamaha Venture light bar? I tried to tighten with my fingers before I put a tool on all 4 bolts in all the 4 mounting holes and they would not thread. Any ideas? The lamps are stamped made in USA so I'm thinking maybe they are SAE and not metric?
  22. my back RSV horn is not working. I ran the wires from its harness up under the gas tank and into the fairing since it was already wired to the button. You have option to bypass RSV stock horns or use them with the air horn. So I have the air horn in the fairing and the stock front horn in the left leg cowling working together. If I ever find another rear stock horn on ebay I will install it too.
  23. I have only 3K on my RSV and the front brakes sqeak all the time. Is oil or grease better?
  24. kwtrains you must have not read either one of my posts - looking for $6 REPLACEMENT LEDs NOT $50.00 KIT! thanks any way
  25. Auto Zone does not know what I am referring to nor does Custom Cruisers where I originally bought their $50 kit from and so far no one here on the forum All I need is the 6 or so small LED lights in a circular arrangement fastened to a thin piece of plastic that both fits inside the blinker lens and can be glued to either the lens or slip over the blinker bulb and can be glued to the nacelle (the inside back of the lens). I put the $50 kit on my Kawa and the $6 LEDs from Auto Zone on the Honda which was even better and much cheaper. Wonder why no bike company installs the 2 element bulb in the rear blinker as is in the front blinker?
