1. No argument, Mr Terror - just facts - in my post anyway . Your quote from manual read "Bridgestone". Again it is not the tire but the difference in the sizes that it was referring too - that's all I was pointing out here. I would really like to see this thread locked for reading only before somebody says something stupid and later might regret it. Also at this point it seems to be a waste of time - when we all could be riding whatever tire we like to ride on! If not that - then at least open the CT/Darkside forum for more pointed factual discussins, which I would be more inclined to enjoy - instead of more back & forth accusations such as "You guys are really grasping at straws for every opportunity for more arguments arent you."
2. Size: 150/80-16M/C 71H Manufacturer/model: BRIDGESTONE/G705GRear tire:Size: 150/90B15M/C 74H Manufacturer/model:BRIDGESTONE/G702G My RSV's tires are stock OEM and they are DUNLOPS - front & rear - but same size as above!!!!! It appears that the manual is referring to size - not the make of the tires.
3. I thought the same thing - not a MT vs CT thread - but more like a sharing of personal experiences - like most of the rest of this forum does - maybe it would run OK without a moderator if the conditions of the thread could be in the first post or what they call a "sticky"?
4. I can't help it - - but - - is that one of those viener schnitchel carts that you tow behind your ride? Ever since gas $$$ sky rocket - man - I don't blame ya! :rotf:No offense, fellow biker - nice rig actually! Thinkin bout 1 myself some time in future!
5. V7Goose - I came here to post my results with the attached photos of before and after - but I forgot to switch the hoses - I will do that tomorrow. But the engine idles soooo much better and what I thought was a fast bike got even faster! Thanks for the help!
6. Nope - OEM Dunlops on both bikes -
7. I only have 3,500 mi experience on my RSV and maybe I'm getting a little whimpy as I advance in years, but when I gave my ride the gas in 1st gear in a 90 degree turn, that rear tire was going sideways and was spinnin out on its sidewall. Made me think that there are some ponies in her that I do not need to let loose and lose control. Similar experience with the 1100 VT Sabre, except I was in a 90 degree yield lane. When I shifted into 2nd with full throttle, that back tire was taking us sideways just enough to make my knees almost put permanent dents in the gas tank! Both had OEM MC tires. Wonder if CT would have been better or worse - guess that is the magic answer yet to be found!
8. That link to the carb sync instructions is great! I bought the vac guages from JCW for around $50 months ago and was a little hesitant about maybe screwing something up on my ride. But now I think I will tackle it this weekend! Thanks for so much good input on this forum! The best!
9. I asked him where the electronics were. He wrote "Most are inside the chin spoiler, and in back of radiator". Not sure what "chin spoiler" is though.
10. Vance - Now that you metioned that, it must be exactly what happened when I first encountered what seemed to me an increase in the heat coming from the engine while in slow traffic in hot weather. I did not hear the fan but did feel the blast of heat! I understand that the GW has ducts to vent that engine heat downward or maybe behind the rider? Anyone come up with that idea for the RSV?
11. Well that makes sense then - thanks for clearing this up for me.
12. the rear fender is hollow - maybe the leg cowling electronics are there?
13. sqeeze - that is what I thought (too lazy to look up in manual) but I read somewhere here on a post that this owner's RSV shifted quieter and smoother after he changed its "clutch oil". So that sort threw me a curve ball into thinking that I missed something somewhere along the line.
14. I do not believe that I have ever heard the cooling fan come on my RSV - even though it is a fairly new ride to me. My Honda Sabre's fan would kick on for short periods and then shut off on quite regularly. It is starting to get hot here in FL and quite a bit of heat is obvious when I am in stop & go commuting traffic. I would think that the cooling fan would kick in at these times. How would I test it to feel at ease that it works or that I need to replace a thermostat or switch or something? Anyone?
15. Does the 2nd gen RSV use the same crankcase oil for its hydralic clutch as multiplate wet clutch or is it separate?
16. SPUD - You will not be happy attempting to convert the Honda VTX to try to come up with a Venture. I tried and it is not the same thing. The biggest items will be the fairings. The after markets just do not work safely. Over 65 mph is unstable according to folks over on the Sabre forum. The front end is too light. I had a shield on my VT and if the bars were not held with at least one hand, the front wheel went into a frightening wobble. Not so with the stock 01 RSV I now ride. You can find lowers if you have crash bars and slip shields over them. Not sure how that would affect safe handling either. Then of course there is the 130 hp V4 Honda ST1300 which, acccording to the boys & girls who post on that forum, seems to be a great ride and it pretty much comes with all the goodies. I came close to getting one just before I got my RSV. Might still get one some time in future.
17. In my new life with my new wife we got us an 800 Kawa Vulcan. & rode it 1 year. She liked it so I wanted to upgrade and got us a very quiet Honda 1100 Shadow. Rode it 2 years. Very nice, reliable and comfortable ride. The little woman was scared to death riding with the big semis and zipping cars. Wanted to upgrade and wrestled with decision that we all have. Could not go the big bucks for a full dresser. Found a guy who had a 01 stored that he could not ride for years. Got a deal on it. After 3K miles this spring I finally stopped looking around for an upgrade. I feel like the RSV is at the top of the food chain. The wife even enjoys the rides on the interstate roads. It has so much acceleration that I now simply get out and away from a tight jam with all traffic on the road. It does have the terrible whine which is annoying when cruising. I put fishtails and Pilot speakers and never notice the whine anymore. So I am happy. I read that the GWs had whines up to the 1500 engine until they got the bevel in the gears at the correct angle. Yes I like being at the top of the motorcycle line-up, but I think I would prefer a sport touring if I didn’t have my lovely passenger on the back. So I will keep her (if she keeps me!) and my RSV. I commute with it and it sure makes my work day much more fun going to & from. I never come home tired anymore because I come in off the commuter “race track” with adrenalin still pumped up in me! Sometimes hitting the curves at 80-90 mph the bike wobbles a bit. So I just need to slow down a bit I guess! Another RSV? Sure, why not?
18. The inline fuse that comes with the lights stays in the fairing! DAH! I extended the wires so the fuse tucks into the plastic shield under & in front of the fuel tank - AFTER I had to replace the fuse due to a pinched wire by having to remove the fairing - once again!!!! BTW the passing lights work great but are the worst design of anything I have put my hands on. You will not enjoy the installation but will like the lights after you have to adjust them umpteen times.
19. Had to take pics so I could remember how to put humpty dumpty together again.
20. On the post about 10% ethanol affecting/harming/benefitting our bikes, the subject of different brands, octane rating, and additives in fuels came up several times and it was interesting. Since we are scattered all over the globe, it would be interesting to observe various experiences both good and bad with what we are running through our engines. What's your experience/opinion? Please contribute here! JimBob5 added below:
21. Roadkill - I did read the other thread on ethanol. seems to be a wide range of opinions - as always! My ride is an 01 which sat too long with original purchaser. With only 1,900 miles on it would only run on 2 cylinders. I removed/replaced carbs and it ran on 3 cylinders. I now have an 07 carbs on it which had only 1,400 mi on it. I put fishtails with only a few hundred more miles on it & all seemed OK within the 1st few weeks. One day I over revved her in 1st and there was a loud report out the exhaust. After that I seemed to feel a little vibration at low rpm in all gears. Now that is either in my head or something happened when it over revved? I want to pull the carbs to set the bowl floats since I smell gas. I also bought the 4 gauges to sink the carbs, hoping to eliminate smell and rough idle. I might even try the stock muffs again to see if there is a diff. So besides ethanol issue, I have carb floats, carb sync and muffs to deal with.
22. As I was pumping REGULAR grade HESS into my RSV tank I was asked how does that the 10% ethanol affect my bike. My response was that I do not know. Mine is an 01 and he just got an 08 and was reluctant to burn the gasses with the additive alternative fuels in it. Later when I parked in my garage the raw gas smell had a sweet aroma to it. Today the engine seemed to idle rough or maybe it is my imagination. I would like to open up a discussion here or maybe this is already been discussed in another post that I can review?
