Looks like I gotta go kick tires at the Kawi Store..... What really ticks me off is that Yamaha won't get of their A$$'s and listen to the public, and do something about it. It gets pretty bad when die hard 1st and 2nd Gen Venture riders are looking at VT's with a little gleam in their eye. And while I'm on the soapbox I'm getting to appreciate Harley a lot more too. At least they modify and improve from one year to the next. Not every 10 years. OK, I'm going to go get a cup of coffee now......

clutch / brake res sight glass windows ?
Condor replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Great post Brian, Thanks for all you research. I'm going to check with my local watch repair shop too. This could be the answer to a very common problem with all the 1stGens. Originally the manufacturers probably used plastic because it was cheaper, and not as suseptable to damage as glass would be. Watch crystals look like the answer. -
Ah...let's see.. Two Tone has been taking so much flack, kidding around, and questionable retorts that he's resorted to using the very obnoxious giant head.. to give everyone who's responded a big giant razzzzzzzberry.. There does that help???

clutch / brake res sight glass windows ?
Condor replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This subject has come up in the past. The window resembles, and has the consistency, of swiss cheese, but when coated with oil it becomes transparent again. I wondered if one could take some clear nail polish and treat the outside of the glass, and if it would take care of the problem??? I've never tried, but one of these days I'll try it on an old reserve, and the wife will be minus some clear nail polish.... -
Yep, my father in law did that when he bought a new GMC truck off the showroom floor. Pissed the dealer off... Another way to finance is take out a line of credit on the house. You don't need to use it untill you're ready to pop for a bike, and any interest is a tax write off. Usually the interest rates are much better than what sounds like credit card financing with the 27% penalty rate if your late. Bought a boat like that. Went down, looked at it, took out the check book and wrote the repo bank a check for 50 large. No muss.. to fuss.. no bother. And the interest was next to nothing.

Now look at what youse guys have done... He's gone and used the GIANT HEAD....

Instead of a nickle you might try a large screw driver after rounding off the blade to fit. perfably with a square shaft so you can get a cresent on it for leverage.. If the slot is the same size as those used on the bottom of a camera, it's actually designed to take a 100¥ coin. I think it's a jap joke on the american public.... You might also try heating the plug.... lock tight...

At first it sounded like a great deal, and wished they made them for the 1stGens. Then I found the price list. I think I'll stick with a stock screen.

Radiator fan
Condor replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Like Steve says, put it on the center stand and let it idle. The fan should kick on just before the temp needle gets into the red zone. If it doesn't start trouble shooting. You might also think about replacing your radiator cap. It may not be holding pressure and allowing the coolant to boil. Hence the over flow problem. -
Yep somes gets there moneys worth and somes don't. 2ndGens cheep!!!

Mattcharva's 83VR project bike is coming together
Condor replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Bob, I didn't mean that the length of your eloquent prose wore me out, it was strictly the subject matter...... The mental picture of all the work you performed was overwhelming.... It plumb tuckered me out.... -
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. The 86+'s are attached by a footman loop on the top and a strap on the bag, and I think?? the MkI's are all snaps. But then wadda I know....?

Prices for older 2nd gens
Condor replied to keithert's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The 99 is in Kelly Blue for $5700 trade in. Most go for around that in the real world, unless it's really exceptional with very low miles. Some members will argue the point, but the higher retail is from a dealer and covered by some sort of warrantee, not an 'as-is' private sale. Normally 99's seems to have around 35K-45K on the odo. 2000's and 2001's bring about a grand more per year. -
I agree. I don't bid on those auctions with a .99 opening bid, and the shipping is $40 bucks, where the shipping shouldn't run anymore than $10..... It's a sellers way too screw Ebay out of end user fees, and he's also screwing the bidder. The only guy that doesn't do that, and I have to take my hat off to is Hess4less2007. .99 cent openings with very reasonable shipping fees. I don't bid on his auctions for other reasons, but he's honest up front. And I don't think he's into having ghost bids made by imployees??? The high prices that he gets are because he has good quality stuff. That's another thing that ticks me off. The guy that puts up a rusted, busted, non-working item instead of tossing it into the dumpster. Or the guy that dismantles every item down to the individual parts and expects to get something for it when with shipping you could buy it new for less at a dealer. All in all though, I like Ebay, and have gotten some great buys. A garage full... Bidders just need to be prudent on what they're doing. Caveat Emptor. And just remember, there'll always be another one later if the bidding on the current one goes crazy.....

Your '86 is a standard. You can't manually add air to a Royal. As far as riding the bike home at 0-0 I don't see any problem as long as it's not over loaded, and don't try to get it up on the centerstand without a bit of volunteer help... There are quite a few things that could cause the CLASS not to work. Anywhere from throwing 5 different error codes, to no power, to leaks in the system somewhere. I'd suggest unplugging and plugging the power cord and bus connection a couple of times to see if might get the thing to start working again. I had one that needed a rap to get it going every once in a while. -
Nah... He lost control trying to keep up....

LOL.... Not a scratch on the '83...
