  2. well at least the 1st Gens get picked up, I heard that when a 2nd gen breaks down you just push it off the road and local wildlife will make use of it to live in, or look at themselves in the plastic chrome...:rotf::rotf:
  3. Well said, and becoming/or is quite true...
  4. Give me a decent paying job and I would love to live in Texas or Arizona...:1hotsht:Riding year round......wouldn't it be nice to ride for 12 months thus using all 12 months of my insurance that I have to pay up here thru winter............
  5. Ok.... 1. Ride a fully equiped KLR 650 around the world with a support team following..( ala-movie- "long way round"). 2.To live long enough for all the baby boomers to die off so I could afford a depreciating 69-70 boss 429 mustang 3.All I need is the 2 wishes.......Although having enough money to buy Yamaha and resume building the 1st Gen Venture with all new elctronic goodies would be fun too...

  8. I can't help but think that a brick would have been the easier choice there....
  9. Hey Stan would you go hunting with a 9mm browning.? or an AK47..? No, these are the weapons used by the gangs to kill each other and innocent bystanders.. I believe these are the weapons "they" are trying to eliminate from the streets, not your 30/30, 12 gauge shotgun, or any other rifle for the recreation hunter... Comparisons [edit] United States Compared to the United States, Statistics Canada data have consistently demonstrated a substantially lower rate of violent crime, but similar rates of property crime[7]. For example, in 2000 the United States' rate for robberies was 65% higher, its rate for aggravated assault was double the Canadian rate, and its murder rate was triple. Comparing this with data from the U.S Department of Justice, in recent years the gap between in crime rates between the United States and Canada has been narrowing: crime rates in the US have declined faster than those in Canada[8][9]. The current US murder rate is 2.5 times that of Canada per capita[10][11], down from about four times as high during the 1980s, the primary reason for this has been a drastic drop in US homicide rates with roughly steady Canadian rates. Approximately 70% of the total murders in the US are committed with firearms, vs. about 30% in Canada[11]. So do Americans carrying guns cause these numbers..? Or do Americans carry guns because of these numbers...???
  10. Wow..!! whatever happened to the old fist fight...... NOBODY carries guns up here in Ontario unless they are mixed up with gangs/drugs etc.... Our gov't is very tough on guns, everytime someone is shot dead with a handgun the topic of US border crossing(smuggling)of weapons is brought up. So if you are coming up here to Ontario and you get searched at the boarder for whatever reason, be prepared for a loooong interogation about the weapon if they find one..and probably send you home too.. PS: you don't really need a gun up here, just looking like a motorcycle rider(ie leather, head band, biker boots etc....) intimidates 90% of the people you will encounter...the other 10% are real bikers who probably have guns hehehe...
  11. Yeah recording 8 hrs of it right now to dvd... I have watched it every year since they started.. I am a fanatic (specially for FORDS)...have had many.. but I just can't wait for all those baby boomers to die off... then the prices on these 60's muscle cars will drop dramatically, and I can afford to buy one again... Uhmmm you guys aren't baby boomer age are ya's..?? hehe... :whistling:
  12. Very well done..

Thanx Carl, boy these 2nd gen owners sure do get jealous when they see a fine example of the "ORIGINAL YAMAHA VENTURE...." But hey I guess our bikes just stand out that much more in a crowd, even 2nd gen owners notice....hehehehe...

    test

this is a test...hmmm guess I cannot remove this once posted huh.?
  16. Yes this is a must for winter storage...The fuel will go bad with all that moisture in the tank, further to that, the fuel in your carbs and lines will also go bad possibly causing carb trouble come spring.. Get that sta-bil in the tank allow it to sit and mix a few minutes then start the bike and run for a good couple-o-minutes to get that fuel conditioner into your carbs.. I have a snowblower which I often forget to drain the fuel or sta-bilize it after winter is over..come spring I am too excited about outdoor activities to care, and then comes the first snowfall later that year.. I check the gas level, its at half tank, I try the starter, and she just will not fire up, I try to add some fresh gas to mix with the old stuff, but no way.. So now when the first winter storm comes along, I drain the gas left in the tank, carb, then put fresh fuel in her and no problem starting...This was my inexpensive way of learning about fuel stabilizing..
  17. Was the engine running..?
  18. To see the difference go thru the photo galleries and look at the "dash" of the bikes. You will notice the layout is a bit different on the royale to accomodate the onboard air suspension and cb. The location of some dash lights are different as well. Plus there is two storage bags that hang from the fairing which would be right above your knees when sitting on the bike. As far as I know they always offered a standard model and a royale. I know this because I have an 86 and it is the standard model, and the style of my bike was carried right thru till the end in 93.. If you are looking at my picks tho you will have to note that the previous owner installed a cb on my bike...
  19. Well I am guessin' many of you out there are like myself, stuck indoors through the winter waiting till spring. I enjoy reading about other peoples motorcycle journeys. The best magazines I have found so far are "road runner" and "rider" magazines. WHAT MAGAZINES DO YOU READ/RECOMEND..??:cold:
  20. I was going to buy a Harley this time round...(harley espionage) However I joined some online groups for harley's and just watched the posts come in about the problems on relatively new bikes.., and then alot more of the group members would post their same problems and others.. Then they would have the discussions about the dealers.. How there would be a waiting list for certain bikes and then these people would go out of state to try and buy elsewhere but the dealers would not sell to them..etc... Lets look at the automotive sector.. Say you have $15 000.00 and there is a toyota corolla and a domestic brand car for sale, both for 15 grand.. you need something reliable as you don't want to spend alot of money on repairs.. which car you gunna buy.???? It is quite well known that the japanese cars are better built, last longer, and have fewer problems than our north american cars... Check out JD POWER AND ASSOCIATES survey's or Consumer Reports... So it kinda makes sense that the same would go for the bikes... Don't get me wrong, I love the look, sound and feel of a harley(hence their pricing), but I have a family to support right now, not a bike, so my 86 venture will probably give me next to no problems over the next few years...
  21. Wow, our numbers sure are growing.. I was diagnosed as a late onset of type 1. I was 37 years old. My pancreas just decided to shut down, and right onto needles (at least 4 a day) I went. Doctors refuse to say Diabetes melitus is hereditary, however my father died at 59(by choice) due to complications.. In fact my dad ended up in Medical Journals simply because everything Diabetes can cause, happened to him.. It was VERY sad to watch my big strong tough dad be slowly beaten by ALL of his complications. He endured soooo much...In the end, he had just had enough of the hospitals, the meds, the pain. The last 5 years of his life was about 50% in either doctors offices or in the hospital.. He had just lost his wife, my mom(56) to brain aneurisms, lost a leg so he was in a wheelchair 24/7, so he chose to stop taking all his meds.... So Fred.... I am like you, pissed off.!!!! scared of the outcome..cause I got to see it all.. and really mad that I can't just carry on with my life the way it was.. I now have to carry this frikin' blood tester and needles as well as snacks(for my lows) absolutely EVERYWHERE i go...plus I have to quit smoking... However...Fred here is where your story gets better.. type 2 diabetics can control if not eliminate their situation by excercise and diet changes. You MUST lose weight..That is the ticket to better control and lessen your problems for later in life. It is a complete lifestyle change that is thrust upon us whether we like it or not... Do it for that 10 year old child you have, do it for your wife, do it for you...but you must do it, just as I have come to realize the same.. I have two girls one just turned 2 last weekend and the other is 3.. I would like to have two legs to be able to teach them how to ride a bike and a motorcycle, and maybe walk them down the aisle when the get married someday.... Pissed off and Suffering the same depression as you my friend..
  22. Looks like its just a stupid politician thats just mad because a sportbike cut him off. quote] What has become of North America...We are just simply "OVER-GOVERNED" We here in Ontario have a similar "new law" being enforced now... What ever happened to being young wild and free.? Hell I remember street racing in my 66 mustang in the downtown streets..had alot of fun too.. I am sure many of you folks in here are/were like me, working on cars 4x4's and bikes, then going out and cruising and having some fun... These kids today just aren't getting any chances like we used to. If we are going to make laws up to keep "EVERYBODY" driving like snails then we should be providing organized tracks and drag strips(locally) for them to go play with their machines.. Although they tried that here in Ontario at the drag strip in Cayuga, and all the hot japanese cars drove out to the country in an orderly fashion to "race legally" and the local Ontario Provincial Police had an inspection going on just before the cars made it to the drag park grounds. They were hassling and handing out tickets for every silly thing they could find wrong with those cars.. Now how many of those young people are ever going to return to an official event like that.. Now I am not sure on the numbers, but these new laws are being brought about because of the street racing/deaths.. Although very tragic when innocent people are killed by stupid street racers, I am sure the numbers are very low.. Now in contrast, look at bullying/suicide rates, or look at obesity, in adults and children, a few more years from now all those kids growing up in this fast food, fast computers, fast video games, etc... will start having major health problems/deaths... Will we ban obese people from eating at McDonalds, have someone assist them when doing groceries to enforce them getting the proper food..?? Is alcohol next..!!!??? Like somebody above said, it can come down to an officers discretion, well theres alot of "bad" officers out there, just waaaay too much power for one ego tripping sunglass's wearing cop..(with all due repect....Hey I was a military policeman myself at one time...) Geeze, confiscating vehicles and excessive fines for speeding....Perhaps these will be the reasons for cranking the right wrist or slamming the right pedal down when they see the lights and sirens behind them.... I appologize for the .. I feel better now getting that out of my system.. And no I do not race or drive/ride really fast anymore.. just short bursts of speed here and there..
