My friend and I are doing a tour down thru the Caskill mountains in New York.. We also plan on stopping in at Orange county Choppers, taken a picture, buying a shirt etc..., and we may stop at Coopers town for a picture at the baseball hall of fame... Spending the night (motel) near the Catskill park, so we can get as much touring of that area in as possible...Anyone is welcome to come along, just let me know... Leaving Saturday morning from Niagara area around 8 am..(flexible) and returning on Sunday at about 5-7 pm..?

I hate to see a bike layin' down like that....So porch boy knows his GF did it and he gets all excited..!!!???? Do bikes achieve the same status as cars when they age.? Classic, collectors, antique.??? With how scarce parts must be, these bikes should be going up in value now...Sorry for your situation..

Glad to hear you are not banged up too bad...Shame about that bike tho...stay faithful, and good luck finding parts.. If these 1st gens weren't so darn fast there would be no reason to be entering a corner at speeds requiring a little heavy braking now and then... -
Well thanks Reiny, I am glad to hear this, I am going to order my shirt now.. You are right too about the travel time on the weekends for those travelling from afar..

Here is my take on the whole thing....Apparently we have a lot of members in Ontario Canada... Many of which are quite local to the area of Kitchener/southern Ontario. Now to register for an event which I am not able to fully attend, doesn't seem fair. I will not be eating the daily breakfasts, nor the wrapup dinner, I am hoping that it will be ok for me to show up on any given day, meet with all you folks, buy a shirt, a raffle ticket, go for a ride, have some dinner(local restaurant), and say my farewells... I am guessing, that there will be a lot of us Ontario members who can only make it out for "a day"... I was not able to secure this week from my holiday picks back in March.. However I do plan on playing hookie/calling in sick just so I can attend at least one day... The lighter side.......$70 dollars for a 2 night registration. Divide that by 2 to get the one day registration...$35 dollars now.. Then subtract $10 dollars for the two breakfasts that I won't be consuming... $25 dollars now.. I have a lot of T-shirts, so lets knock off another $12 dollars on passing on the shirt...$13 dollars now.. Then that last day "wrap-up supper ticket" which I am not able to attend, lets cut at least $25 dollars off for that one(Good meal I'm sure), so thats...Uuuuh, $13 dollars subtract the $25 dollars.....Hmmm well this means you guys owe me $12 bucks when I show up....Wuhoooo...!!!!!! JUST KIDDING OF COURSE..!! Its all priced very reasonable..Obviously.. I hope there is some way a "day pass" member can show up, make a donation to the cause, and meet the people and get out there and ride one of the many great road trips that the planning committee and this area has to offer... SOME FACTS ABOUT ONTARIO -Anybody know that "Hamilton" (which is close to Kitchener) has more waterfalls than any other city in North America..? (get that camera) -The "GREAT ONE" Wayne Gretsky's home town is Brantford, which is a stones throw away from Kitchener....(maybe he will attend..????) -This is a great opportunity to see the great lakes before Canada and the U.S. start fighting over them..(fill your drinking water bottle there) -Niagara Falls of course..there are taller water falls in the world, however Niagara's have the greatest quantity of water flowing over them, a must see if you haven't been...(free refreshing showers right there on the street) -When you get a speeding ticket in Ontario, you do not have to pay it right then on the side of the road...(convenient) I'm sure the turnout will be good, I'm sure the planning committee is doing a bang-up job, it will be a great success.., for those who have faith and attend....I maybe even allowed to come for a day... I have one question..? Why could this not have been planned to include a weekend within the dates of operation.? Then maybe a weekend pass could be sold...(I know probably the cost of renting the park..) I may not have noticed, but has there been any publishing of dates/times and rides which are planned.?

Well the hot hazy humid air hit Ontario yesterday, I just went for a ride after work tonight, and currently the temp is 25 degrees and humidex of 31:scorched:, this is at 1:30am... I like the comment someone made about riding into a giant hairdryer, when the humidity is at 100% it sure is sticky...bike handles better tho(almost melted tires grip well)...hehehe..

Hit the link and add 7 degrees celcius and 40 km/hr winds..to see what it was like.....Plus you would have to factor the speed of the Motorcycle, plus the adjustment for damp clothing from the few raindrops we saw... Calculate Wind Chill given Celsius & Kilometers Per Hour http://www.easysurf.cc/cnver16.htm My thanks to swifty for showing up..!!! I at least had "someone" to ride with on my one day a week away from the wife and kids... Maybe next time, for the fair weather riders/ and the sleepy ones too...

Trying to round up people to ride in this kinda cool weather may be tuff...However I have faith in our local riders and I WILL BE THERE..(might be in a snowsuit) but I will be there 10 am... I too am trying to round up some other guys...I should have 2 others but maybe 4 depends how hardy the Harley riders are....hehe... The "Niagara on the Lake" part of this ride has been cut... So it will be touring a few nice roads around Welland/Fonthill, then on to Canboro road towards Haldimand area, Brantford, Ancaster and still ending in Dundas.. No full face helmuts aloud....LOL Brian.

New date....Monday May 19. Same time same place

Gotta love spring weather forcasting... Yes Monday is looking good now too, less chance of showers and a little more wind but more sun as well.. I will check the weather network tomorrow and if the ride gets changed to Monday I will repost and email/pm everyone who responded in here.. Bring on summer, with our 2 week stretch of hot hazy humid sunny weather, much easier for planning. Brian.

Sorry about the "Sunday" ride, but its the only day so far that doesn't have rain...

I hate posting a "ride" here in the watering hole, but I am looking for maximum exposure to the locals of this area.. Hope this is OK.. Sunday May 19, suppose to reach mid 50's for temp, I am planning on at least a 5 hour tour(maybe longer). Starting at Tim Hortons in Smithville(10 am) and perhaps running out to Niagara on the lake, then back to the escarpment, along some not so well known beautiful roads, then along the Grand river close to Brantford, then across a few more hidden treasure roads to get to Ancaster, then finish up in Dundas..So let me know if your interested, either here, email, private message, whatever.. Brian.

There are so many unknown "nice roads" in this Niagara area. I tend to link alot of them together when going on a scenic ride. Last year I led a group from Beamsville back to the Grand river, then west to Brantford area, touring up some tight hilly roads thru Ancaster and into Dundas, with amazing areas like along babbling brooks, and rivers, seeing some prime real estate, views from top of escarpment.. It was a great ride, I will do it again this year and post it for anybody interested.. I know this area quite well, and spent alot of time on the google map to come up with such a route..

The way Motorcycle training classes and the Ontario motorcycle handbook (read to get license) have put it, is if you are riding alone, and you are in the right side of your lane, you are leaving half of your lane open so if a car approaches you from behind and chooses to pass you, he will probably be following to close to begin with, but when he overtakes you he will still be lane sharing with you as the nose of his vehicle passes you.. As said earlier by someone, when you are in the left side of your lane you are "blocking" against lane sharing, the car must then pull fully into the left lane before passing you.. Now in the city, if you are following a large truck and riding in the right side of your lane behind this truck, someone coming towards you making a left turn may hit the gas and start their turn just as the back of the truck is getting near.. The biker is not seen yet.. My headlight is my most valued life saving device I feel I have, I ride daylight hours with high beam on and driving lights on.. Its all about making yourself visible, I always ride the left side of my lane, I may even poke out to the middle of the road on a two lane hwy once in a while, the closer to the field of vision of that idiot in the car coming towards me I am, the safer I feel.. A busy motorist will most certainly notice a motorcycle easier/sooner if its almost in the middle of the road, kinda in his face.."notice me..!!!" For group riding I feel its the point mans duty to be out there getting noticed, and pushing over those cars/trucks who are riding the centre lane too much.. But thats just what I learned and how I choose to ride..

Well we went for our ride today.. Al, Thomas, and myself(Brian)...Now in this first picture you will see 2 Venture riders coming to aid a Harley rider(my friend Al)..... With what tools we had on hand we managed to repair the Harley..Look at the linkage for the back brake... It was actually quite a serious problem but luckily Al was able to lift the brake peddle before it caught on something in the road to catapault him.. Yes as we got closer to the lake Erie shore it got colder and colder(as Carl had said) but we did make it to our destination... As you ride along this Lakeshore road these giant wind turbines are scattered all about the farmers fields, looking very much out of place with the surroundings.. They go on for miles, I have no idea how many there are, I have seen at least 30-40(or more) on a previous longer ride.. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=42.615265,-80.662308&spn=0.215264,0.464172&z=11 Lakeshore road between Port Rowan and Port Burwell.....Can give GPS too if needed..
