  1. Nice!
  2. I'm certainly no expert but I have ran basically the same set up that Squidley detailed and after two trips over 4K miles each and several shorter jaunts never felt any sway or shimmy. This was at speeds from zero to 80, too. I run right at 48 psi in the rear shock and none in the front. I just run the recommended pressure in the tires. In addition I have always tried to keep the tongue weight as close to 20 pounds as possible. I set the leg on a bath scale when loading and rearranging the load on level ground and try to replicate that every time we put the stuff back in. We tend to pack WAYYYYY too much, so I do not think your issue is the total weight, but could be the distribution of that weight. I try to visually insure the load is even left to right, too...
  3. Thank you!
  4. Thank you! I think you will be pleased with the way this trailer pulls. It feels a little heavier than the Piggybacker, but it wasn't burdensome through the mountains. It may have been my imagination but it seemed that on some of the left hand sweepers that I had so push the bike slightly harder into them though. I actually bought an adapter, Hopkins part # 47515, at O'Reilly's Auto Parts down here for only $5.99. It adapts the vehicle side flat 4 wire to the 5 wire trailer side. I have not tried it yet but feel it will work fine based on what I have read. Worse case I can just change some of the trailer wiring. This way I can still pull either the Piggybacker or the Time Out. http://www.hitchfinder.com/products/4_Flat_Car_End_to_5_Flat_Trailer_End_Adapter,47515 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-Plug-Simple-47515-Adapter/dp/B000CMHVGM]Amazon.com: Hopkins Plug-In Simple 47515 4 Wire Flat To 5 Wire Flat Adapter:…@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/417R1FV1ACL.@@AMEPARAM@@417R1FV1ACL[/ame] http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/HOP0/47515.oap?mn=Hopkins+Manufacturing&mc=HOP&pt=N1543&ppt=C0241 I bought mine after I set the trailer up in the backyard and had nothing but rain since. I can't get the bike back there now for a while to try it out. The lights worked well enough to get home with by plugging the 4 into the 5 but the amber is the brake lights in that case. Now I want to work on outfitting it to handle an A/C unit and mount an electrical outlet / strip of some type. I see a lot of potential in these little trailers...
  5. Thank you! I did get to observe and help as he set the trailer up and to stow it, too. He had never used it himself and just sort of crammed the canvas back in. I see how it should be folded and stowed carefully to allow for space and to keep it in better shape. The description of that process by dmoff above will be a great help with that. We brought it back over the mountains and it pulled very well. Sure, I could feel it on the twisties and was a little concerned as we crossed Newfound Gap from Cherokee NC to Gatlinburg TN just after the rain in the dark, but it tracked well. We moved along well enough to not slow down traffic despite it being the first time pulling this one. The experience pulling the piggybacker sure helped. I set it up in the back yard yesterday, and it has rained ever since. I guess it'll be up a few days... Here are some photo's that I took yesterday right before the thunderstorms started. Our yard is not entirely level so it makes the inside a little distorted on the door end...
  6. :dancefool:Thanks guys! We got the camper home last night around midnight. I appreciate all of the info and will post some photos and other details later. The camper had some stains on the canvas top, and the flooring had been replaced but everything looked good and better than I expected for a 14 year old unit. I'm going to try and set it up later today...
  7. Great information friends! We will be leaving out in the morning to go and take a look at it. It should make for a nice road trip, and it gave me an excuse to put on my hitch and trailer wiring. After the input I have seen I an anxious to see the trailer and maybe pull it home. It'll be a nice 540 mile round trip regardless...
  8. We are looking at buying a '96 model Time Out trailer. It does not have the A/C opening, but otherwise appears to be the full sized model, not the Easy Camper. Does anyone have any knowledge / recommendations / warnings around these models? Thanks! Don
  9. Whoo-Hoo! I just got my early Father's Day gift. My son got me a new Hide A Hitch from Diamond R Accessories. As expected it is a great design and looks very sturdy, and I can hardly wait to get this installed! Thank you Son!
  10. I couldn't have said it any better. I have a second gen and a first gen (MkII) that I am having trouble parting with because it has been so dependable... I would recommend these bikes to anyone wanting a reliable and superior touring machine.
  11. That's correct, there are two spare fuses stored in each fuse box. Plus I learned something about the "back up" fuse. It is not mentioned in the Owner's Manual on the pages identifying the fuses as being in either of the fuse boxes...
  12. There should be five spare fuses stored on on your bike. Two are in each of the fuse boxes and one is a spare for the main fuse that is stored by it. Pretty nifty, huh? That beats having to use gum-wrappers or tin foil...

It's sort of like watching natural selection being played out right before our eyes, huh?
  14. Excellent looking bike and great photos! I too would like to find some of the chrome for between the cylinders and the carb covers but they seem to be discontinued. If anyone has any knowledge of where we can get them please let us know.
  15. I posted this in the Trike area a week ago and received no replies, to I thought I'd throw it out here. It is to help a friend that is trying to get back to biking again... Front tire for GW trike... I have a friend that just bought a '93 Gold Wing trike. He had been trying to get back on a bike for several years but is slightly paralyzed in one arm and had to go with a trike. The front tire is a Dunlop EIII 130/70R-18 and is in need of changing. Are there any alternatives that he could use? It looks as if the trikes mainly upright stance wears out the center of the tire prematurely. Any suggestions? Thank you! Don __________________
  16. Ah yes, impressive I suppose, BUT does it come with a cassette player?

  18. Congrats Joe! Great looking bike!
  19. Crap. I hope that is wrong, but I bet the twin is much cheaper to manufacture so we can probably count on the change. It is really aggravating that so many parts are being discontinued. We just tried to order the carb covers and learned they were discontinued. It is amazing that these bikes will draw or impress a crowd and Yamaha doesn't seem to have any interest in promoting them..
  20. Thank you all for the help! WIth the great info I was able to change the headlight bulb without removing the fairing, in less than five minutes. Pulling the knob off of the headlight adjuster was the key. But... that did not help. OK, here was the problem. Way back when the dealership in south FL installed the drivinging lights they used the scotchlock connectors to tap into the lowbeam circuit. The connector cuts into the existing wiring to make the connection. Due to stress or etcetera the wire broke at this point! This killed the feed to teh low beam AND the driving lights. I would also like to thank the Panama City Yamaha dealership for working us in, finding this issue, and soldering the wires together to get us back in the game. And, at a reasonable price. This dealershiop gets a huge "Thumbs Up" from us for their service, results, and understanding. For all of you with driving lights please be on the lookout... or you'll be in the dark like us.
  21. Please help! On the way down to Panama City yesterday my low beam went out along with the driving lights. I still have the high beam, and the headlight fuse is OK. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I search for the dealer here? Also, if the bulb simply needs changed, how do I do that? The owner's manual and the service manual are not much help...
  22.:banana:Well... We've just got the new Avons mounted and are ready to go. I'll just have to scrub 'em up on the way, just like last year with the 1st gen. Just one more day to work and we're off! :hurts:We hope to see more Ventures there in Panama City and will try our best to represent the brand well! Any other's that may be coming down try and give us a shout and we'll compare bikes and swap some stories...
  23. The wind can blow a bike over. Or, in come cases help it move. I was cleaning out my garage two weeks ago and had both my '88 VR and '03 RSV sitting facing uphill on the driveway. Neither was in gear, and there were gusty cross winds coming in from the kickstand side. I thought nothing about it until I looked up and the '03 was backing down the driveway! Luckily it is only a slight grade and I noticed it in time. The '88 was catching a lot of the wind but did not move, surprisingly. I moved each to face into the wind and put them in gear and had no more problems. I had the '88 nearly blow over (I caught it.) while I was fueling up as a storm approached in Baker NV a few years back. Since then, I try to never underestimate the wind...
  24. You should allow three days end-to-end at an absolute minimum. One day for SLD and two for the BRP. This is exactly what we did last August and I regret we did not allow for more time. We basically just had time to enjoy the roads themselves with ouly a few forays off, one being Mt. Airy. There is enough to see and do along the way to make that ride as long as you want...
  25. Annie will be constantly in our thoughts and prayers for a full and quick recovery.
