I bought my 06 RSV in July 2007 and just turned 46,000 miles. My 05 Boulevard purchased in June of 2006 has 46,000. Does that qualify?

Congrats on your successful completion of the out of state SS1000 ! We rode the in state ss1000 out of Newnan, Ga and did not arrive back until 3:28AM. We hit the rain about 70 miles south of Savannah and that changed the whole ride. I wish someone made a rainsuit that actually works. By the time we reached our next mandatory stop I had more water inside the jacket than on the outside! The ride through the mountaions from Clayton to Dalton on Hwy. 76 in the dark, fog and rain was not enjoyable. You could cut the fog with a knife. In reteospect I think it would have been better to run the route in reverse where the mountain portion of the ride would have been in the daylight hours so the views could have been enjoyable. Mark C. and his crew of the MTF group need a big 'At A Boy' for another great job of planning and handling of this IBA ride event.

Have run Avon Venom's front & rear for two years and over 43,000 miles so far......... No complaints in snow, ice, rain or heat. Do want to try a set of the E3's though. Heard really good reviews and want to find out for myself. Bugsplat49:thumbsup2:

My neighbor and I are riding the 'In State' SS1000 out of Newnan, Ga. on the 26th. Look forward to meeting other Venture Rider's. Bugsplat49:080402gudl_prv:

After washing three days of rain and road grime off the RSV and used contact cleaner in the front and rear 5 pin connectors. Plugged in my helmetless headset and earbuds and everything is working fine now:doh:. I guess maybe a speck of crude got in and messed up the connector. Need to add that to my normal cleaning and servicing routine. Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions. Bugsplat:banana:

I use an adapter purchased from 'Edset's'. It plugs into the five pin receiver plug and has a separate jack for standard ear bud pin built in. I did have the ear buds unplugged for part of the ride yesterday and it made no difference. Sound still only came through the right helmet speaker.

Yes, I am talking about the factory unit on a 2006 RSV. The only reference in the book regarding 'Balance' is for the front to rear fade control. I do not see anything that pertains to a control for varying left to right volume. How is this performed ?????

Just returned from a three day ride in the NC and TN mountains. Took my grandson along as we were acting as tour guides for a couple from Ft. Myers, Fl. that had a new V-star 1300 and were unfamiliar with the numerous great MC rodes in the area. Anyway, during the ride, we were both listing to the cb and radio through helmet speakers and the grandson through ear buds. We both only heard the music out of the right speaker. Nothing out of the left side?????? What could cause this problem. I have not experienced this problem before and the only thing differant this time was a passenger plugged into the rear connector. Any else ever experience this problem? Bugsplat:doh:

Electrical Drain ???????
Bugsplat replied to Bugsplat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for everyones ideas and suggestions!!! I knew this was the place to get the best and most accurate responses to this or any problem with a RSV. I will start checking out all items listed. The dealer was using a digital volt/ohm meter but he had it set on DC volts? He would read a fully charged battery and use that data for a baseline figure and then review the meter reading daily. After one week it had dropped in the area of .o3 volts only. Do I understand correctly that it should be set on Amps? Yes, I do leave the key in most of the time. The dealer thought maybe I was leaving it on the ACC. setting so this last time I pulled out the key and then put the key back ib the ignition switch. Is it possible that by inserting the key alone it is energizing something? As for the battery, I do not believe any of the batteries were truly bad. I think the dealer was grasping at straws also. The dealer thought at one time it was the combo. radio/cb/tape deck not shutting off but he said that after a few minutes it did shut down. It is the factory installed unit so how does it keep it's memory without power? Also, the same must apply for the clock. I have installed a digital voltmeter but I tapped into a swithed positive for the power source. My GPS is plugged into the 12v accessory plug on the front left side of the inner cowling. I do leave it plugged all the time but it shuts down when I turn off the key. Or it apperas to shut off just as the radio does. Thanks again for all the help. This is the greatest bike forum I have every belonged to. Bugsplat -
I own a 2006 RSV(Black Cherry) and have a electrical drain problem that has plaqued me for several months now. The bike has been to the local dealership four times over the past few monthes for this issue but nothing has been found???? The 1st time in the shop they said it was just a bad battery (2 yrs.old) and charged me over $100 for new battery and labor. Less than two weeks later it was totally dead again. Back to the shop and they kept it almost 2 weeks with a volt/ohm meter hooked up to it. Nothing found, they said it might have been a bad battery and gave me another one at no charge. A few weeks later the same scenario.................... Went to ride and nothing, no juice???? Back to the shop for another week and nothing was found to be at fault. They charged the battery and left it hooked up for a week with no drain????? I spent last week in the mountains in and around Tellico Plains, Tn (The Snake, The Devil's Triangle, The Dragon and Wayah Road) I took my Suzuki Boulevard C90 on this trip as it it lighter and really handles the twisties much better. Anyway, upon returning home I went to clean the RSV and turn the key and................................... Nothing! My volt meter read 3.5 volts. I monitor this forum daily and believe that the knowledge and expertise is truly right here to resolve this puzzle. I plan a 6000 trip to Montana in July and do not want to take the RSV unless this problem can be fixed. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation and shed some light on the fix????? Help ! Thanks for the help guy's. Freebird was correct. 'Edset Headsets' makes the adapters for the Venture 5-pin to 5-pin with a built in 3.5mm jack for ear buds. with our club discount it is $51 and change. Have one on the way! Maybe I will be able to hear the cb better with the ear buds because I certainly can't hear them plainly through the helmet speakers. Thanks again! This is the greatest web-site for any and all Venture information. Bugsplat:happy34:

I am interested in trying out ear buds instead of the helmet speakers but want to be able to transmit as well as receive. I remember seeing an adapter at the Honda Hoot a couple of years ago that plugged into the 5-pin connector and also had a 3.5mm stereo plug in as well. I believe this would allow the use of ear buds and still permit transmitting. I do not seem to be able to find any such gadget on the net. Can anyone help me out? Thanks B:think:ugsplat

Side bags removal...
Bugsplat replied to wild_thing's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I purchased a set of metric thumb screw knobs for M6 SHCS from a company 'Lawson Product's' Pt. #52776 they come in a pack of ten at $0.74 each. I manage a tooling department so the SHCS were readily available. Changed my Leatherlyke bags over the quick removal for less than $10.00. No longer have to worry about stripping small allen head screws. -
I'm almost afraid to answer this one. I have 32,000 on my 06 and still running the original pads. I'm on my 3rd rear tire and the shop checks my brake pads at each tire change.

Congrat's on your new ride! Hope you have enough left for the premium fuel. I would like to purchase the K&N filter's if they are still available. Pm me how to get you the payment and mailing details. Thanks Bugsplat

I just had my oem battery replaced on my 2006 RSV. Thank goodness It was in the garage and not out on a several thousand mile road trip. Everything was fine when I parked it and a week later nothing!!!! just like someone lifted the battery during the night. No warning. I replaced the oem battery on my 2005 suzuki C-90 with the Odyssey and have had no problems nor has it seen a charger. Worth the money!! Note: My Odyssey stated that you are not to use a trickle charger (battery Tender) on it.

BackOff LED License Plate Frame Wiring
Bugsplat replied to bmxndad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
nkbjones had a great idea and I believe that I have built off of it and made an easier and cleaner install. My opinion only. I purchased both the 15" light bar and the approx. 5" long sequencial light bar . I mounted the sequencial light bar using the supplied 3m body side molding tape right on top of the existing reflector. There is approx. 1/2" excess light bar hanging off both sides of the reflector so I used a razor knife and removed the 3m tape in those area prior to making the permanant install. We have enough problems with things sticking to our bikes without having tape hanging out there to collect them. I drilled a small clearance hole in the center of the reflector to allow the three wires to cleaning pass through and not be seen when they go up into the wire housing behind the license plate. Traced out my tail light, brake light and ground wire and noted the color code. Started to mount the 15 " light bar under the trunk as nkbjones had done and noticed that the mounting holes in the light bar had the exact same spacing as the end holes in our luggage racks. These holes are covered by rubber boots and have a plastic push pin in the hole. Remove the push pin and you will see the holes line line perfectly. Only problem is the hight of the light bar will not allow a direct bolt up due to the location of the trunk relative to those holes. Solution: If you have access to a machine shop, make two 1 1/8" long by 1" diameter black nylon spacers with a clearance hole drilled through for a #10 screw. Or you can do as I did yesterday and visit your local Home Depot store and purchase in the hardware section 2 one inch black rubber stoppers. You need to drill the clearance hole in them which is quite easy. Use a pilot drill and drill half way through one end and flip it over and repeat the process. Then follow up with a larger size bit. You will need #10-24 by 1 1/2" with flat washer and lock washer as well. Same aisle as the black rubber stopper. Wire into harness behind plate and it looks like a factory install. Waited until dark to see how the looked. Wow! No way you will be not seen now. The small sequencial light bar also has the five flash back off mode as well. For about $50 you get a great deal of added visibility! Thanks for the idea nkbjones! Bugsplat:detective: -
I installed a pair of RK's dealer take off's from a new 04 HD. Got them off ebay for $29.00. Drilled out the rear baffle plate with a 1" hole saw and got the perfect low rumble sound I was wanting! Bugsplat:080402gudl_prv:

HD pipes and a loss of power
Bugsplat replied to Moakster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Need some help? 2006 RSV I installed a set of RK mufflers that were dealer take off's from a '04' Roadking. Prior to the cat. being added, I think? Anyway, I drilled out the rear most baffle plate with a 3/8" bit and really can not tell any difference from the stock pipes??? What drill bit is being used and should I be able to see all the way through the muffler when it is opened up correctly to get that low rumble? Thanks for the help! Bugsplat:confused24: -
Pledge does work very well, but the bees really do like the smell of the lemon pledge. Suggest you use the original unscented type. Bugsplat
