  1. I will check the connections under the passanger seat tonight. I know they were connected because I took them apart for cleaning and applied the dielectic grease. I will double check them. After making sure the all plugs are still connected I guess the next step would be to take the controller apart and cleak contacts on the TX lever. Anything I should look out for ? I hope I do not have to buy a new unit.
  2. I have a 06 RSV (out of warranty)with the notorious Clarion radio / cb unit. In the past I had trouble with radio freeze which has been mentioned on this forum numerous times. I finally performed the fix recommended on here by disconnecting all radio plug connections, cleaning with contact cleaner and applying dielectic grease. Eveerything seemed to work fine from that point on until recently. When I key the TX lever I do not see the red light appear on the controller indicating you are transmitting. This was confirmed by my ridding buddie who has a J&M CB on his bike. I thought it was odd that I had not heard the large number of truckers lateley talking trash back and forth. All other functions of the radio appear to be working fine. Does anyone have experience with this type of problem? I really need the CB to communicate with riding partner. Just do not want to spend the big bucks for a used unit from Pinwheel if it is a reasonable fix.
  3. Fuel pump went out on my 2006 RSV with 58000miles two weeks after the warranty ran out. $230 and two weeks delivery later she runs like the wind. Getting new Avon's mounted presently and leave for alaska on July 1st.
  4. You can purchase a cross-over kit to balance both forks.
  5. Presently waiting for new OEM fuel pump shipped last Thurs. out out Yammy dealership in Portland, Or. Had to pay $203 plus s/h but pinwheel wanted $145 for a pump out of a 05 Venture. $50 more for a new one vs a 6 yr. old pump that will last ????? long. I emailed back and forth with the guy at pinwheel about the cost of the 05 pump but he was not willing to move so I went with the new OEM replacement. Hope it arrives soon. Good opportunity to strip the bike down and perform maint. from one end to the other. Got a 10-12k mile trip coming up July 1st so everything will be ready. Any part numbers on the aftermarket fuel pumps that would work on the Venture? Would not be a bad idea to carry a spare pump along with a spare coil in the trunk. Thanks
  6. Good information. Will ask the dealer / area Rep. if they will cover under warranty. Nothing to lose in asking. But does anyone know if the RSV fuel pump is same as on V-Star 1100 or any other model? Thanks
  7. Called the service manager at local dealership last week when problem surfaced. Seems my warranty ran out 2weeks ago.........Just my luck.
  8. Got a day off yesterday so started tearing the RSV down to determine cause of problem. Checked spark on all four cylinders and it is good. Went ahead and installed new plugs while I had the tank off. Would certainly hate to foul a front plug while on a road trip. Makes no sense that you have to pull the gas tank to change both front plugs. That would look cute along side of road somewhere. Anyway, determined it is a bad fuel pump. Pulled line and hit the starter button. Holding the pump I feel a slight jump then nothing. does not pump out anything. Now my next question. Seems to be very few Royal Star Venture fuel pumps out there. Are their other models that use the same fuel pump? I see several on ebay for V1100 which appear to be the same by looks. Also wrestled out the in line fuel filter and replaced with new. Not to be put back in original location either. Would like to meet the design engineer who placed the filter in that location. Probably the same person that designed in pulling the tank to change front plugs. This is a great forum will a world of help and knowledge. Thanks a lot.
  9. As I said earlier, I did not hear any clicking from the fuel pump when I turned the key on. In fact, I have noticed the last several times I started the bike i did not hear the clicking from the fuel pump. Does this mean the carbs are full and not calling for fuel or is the fuel pump not working? Probably a stupid question but can the bike run if the fuel pump is not working? I do use SEA Foam about once a month in the tank, 1 ounce approx. per gallon of gas.
  10. Bike had only set about a week. W.O choke it would not catch at all. Only way it would catch was with full choke on and then it lugged on the back two cylinders only
  11. Thanks. I will check fuel pump and plugs for spark .
  12. Gas is turned on. and yes, I have done that before as well. Nothing like driving down the street and have your bike die only to realize you forgot to turn on the gas. I seem to recall hearing the clicking sound of the fuel pump in the past but do not hear anything when turning the key to on position.
  13. Tried to fire up the Venture last night and it will not start. Checked exhaust headers when she did start for a brief period and the back L&R were hot. Front L&R were cold. She would repeatedly fire and lug on the rear two cylinders for approx. 15 to 30 seconds and die. What should I check and how?
  14. Thanks again. I will check all connections. This forum is by far the best! Now if Yamaha will get off their butts and add ABS and EFI to the Venture I think we would all be a lot happier. If they keep drag their feet much longer their market will have all changed over to GW's or Victory's. IMHO
  15. Thanks. Looks like I get to split the fairing once again. Will check all the connections and apply dielectric grease. Hope this does it.
  16. Twice in the past month I have experienced what I will call a cb/radio freeze on my 06 RSV. I always ride with my cb on to communicate with my riding partner. During the ride I decided to turn the radio on to listen to some tunes but nothing would work? The unit remained functional on the cb channel selected but I could not change the channel, turn on the radio or even turn everything off. The only function that worked was the volume control. When the ignition switch had been turned off during a gas stop upon restarting the bike the unit functioned normally again. Did not take it to the dealer since everything was working fine but now it has happened once again. Anyone else ever experience this radio/cb freeze up?
  17. The dealer tried to convince me that I was not turning the key to the off position as well. So I started doing just as you mentioned. When I pull into the garage and shut her off, I pull the key at least half way out of the switch then insert it fully before getting off the bike. Thisis a really good habit to get into by the way.
  18. Herb in Texas, Local dealer has replaced the battery twice and it continues. Voltmeter was hooked up to bike at their shop (sheet metal walls) for two weeks with no sign of any drain. Brought bike home and battery was dead in 1 1/2 weeks.
  19. This one should get some really good responses! Last evening while attending the local chapter (SCRC) monthly meeting I was talking with another RSV owner about issues with his Venture(2008). Seems his fuel pump went out and left him stranded a few month's ago. I brought up the mystery power drain that my 2006 was having if it set in the garage for more than a week. He stated that he had the same problem with his wifes BMW and also his Venture on one occasion. He was told it was related to the concrete garage floor and walls. Had to do with amount of moisture in garage and the age old 'Do not store a battery on a concrete floor' as it will drain it. He was told to place a dehumidifier in his garage and te problem will go away. Well he did just that and says the problems is not near as bad as without one. He states the bikes can set for up to a month and still have cranking power. Is there anything to this theory?
  20. There must be something in the air..................... Within the past month, three members of the V Star 1300 forum have switched to Goldwing's. A fourth member has announced his 1300 is up for sale and he is getting another bike. Just hasn't announced what it is as yet.
  21. Back in the mid 80's I lived in Madison, Fl. One morning a robber used the drive thru window of the local First Federal S&L and handed the teller a hold up note written on the back of his deposit slip..................................... The police were waiting for him when he pulled into his driveway! As said earlier................You can't fix STUPID
  22. Before someone ask's the question, the Wagner #7600 sealed beam bulbs are only 37.5 watts compared to the stock 30watt bulbs. At 60,000cp they really do the job at night. You will want to aim them a little lower than normal because they are sooooooooo bright.
  23. Not totally clear on what your question is??? Did you strip the threads on the bolt or did you strip the welded nut? If you stripped the bolt in the removal process you should have it removed. If that is the case then run a tap through the welded nut to clean up the threads and replace the bolt with a new one. If you stripped the welded nut then you have a couple of options. Drill out and tap for next larger size or drill out and put a thread insert into the existing nut which would allow for use of the stock size bolt.
  24. If you do any amount of night riding change out the stock 30W sealed beam bulbs ( almost worthless)for Wagner #7600 bulbs (60,000cp) from NAPA. They make a tremendous difference in visibility in the dark.
  25. I had the 'I' basket installed last year and at 1st it did seem quieter. This past month I am hearing more noise than I did before the change. The clutch is now making a noise when bike is in nuetral and a vibration that was not there before. My dealer set on the bike and said he heard and felt it but would not worry about it. My way of thinking is that it was not there previously so something has changed.
