I have one that I would sell but I suspect that since it is already together no shipper will take it because of the mercury.

You would already be out the door where I work. We had a multiple shooting a few years ago and they don't tolerate anything anymore. One guy said he wanted something put on his record just incase he ever went crazy someday and they fired him. Can't have a bow in your vehicle or carry a knife with a blade longer than 3". I used to participate in shooting matches after work but I had to give it up. I live 30 miles away and its not worth driving back home and back to Jeff City just to shoot.

I do agree that practice is a good thing. I read safety books. I can turn my bike inside 18 ft. I read Larry Grodsky all the time. But I know that given enough time and enough miles that something will probably happen to put me down again. It took 30 years the first time so hopefully it will take 30 years again. But you can't blame the riders when accidents are caused by outside influences. Larry Grodsky was killed and he was the biggest motorcycle safety expert in the country. I do want to get a motorcycle with ABS but I agree with Snarly Bill that there are times when the ABS causes avehicle not to stop. My GMC Sonoma doesn't stop very good going downhill on washboard surfaces. But it stops much better on ice.

And when the lady turns left in front of you all the practice in the world won't tell you if she is going to keep going or stop. If you always knew what they are going to do it would help to decide the right thing to do. Almost accidents usually give a little time. Real life accidents very seldom have much reaction time.

I also will go back to the 150 when the 130 wears out. I think the wind blows me around more now.

When I leave for work at this time of the year it is dark so I like for it to be at least 38 to avoid frost. On weekends when the sun is shining I will ride down to the 20s. I was in a car once that got all sideways on a bridge and it was just lucky that it was straight when we came off the bridge. I don't ever want to be in that situation on a bike.

Try using a sharp center punch and striking it sharply on the side of the head. You might be able to break them loose. -

I live in Eldon. If you want to bring it down here we can change it together and you can see how I do it. Bill Madole wlmadole@sbcglobal.net 5733927723 -
My bike has 66,000 miles on it and recently I noticed that it wasn't engaging until the lever was almost all the way out. It never did slip. I ordered new friction disks and almost as an after thought bought a PWC heavy duty spring from somebody on the forum. When I took things apart this morning I checked the thickness of the old friction plates and the new ones. There wasn't much difference between them ( about the middle of the tolerance range .118). I put the old disks back in with the PWC spring. Now it engages close to the handlebar.

I am selling my wifes jacket on Ebay. It is a really nice coat for somebody a little longer waisted than her. Bids start at $100. Buy it now for 140.00. Jacket was over 300.00 originally. She only wore it 3 times. Only once riding. Coat didn't sell. Still available.

I started out checking the plugs and replacing them at the recommended times but they looked brand new so I have been stretching it out. My bike has 66000 miles on it and the current plugs have about 20000 miles on them. It runs great and is getting some of the best mileage it has ever gotten.

I have had good luck using clear epoxy and a little fiberglass for reinforcing.

I have used clay bar to get rid of paint overspray. I would be careful using lacquer thinner. I have seen it remove paint.

Where to get factory parts?

Is the discount built into the prices or is there some way to get it at checkout -
Where to get factory parts?
midnightventure replied to spingley's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been using http://www.boats.net lately. Its a marina in Fl. that handles Yamaha boats and will sell motorcycle parts reasonable. They have to order them usually but since they don't have to stock them the prices are pretty good. I've ordered twice and it's taken about two weeks both times. Things I didn't need fast. -
FJR and thats definiteley on my list of bikes to get when I win the lottery. Your result for The Motorcycle Personality Test ... Yamaha FJR1300 You scored 1 moxie, 7 zeal, and 1 pomp! http://is0.okcupid.com/users/704/146/705147469668491512/mt1108813085.jpg___1_500_1_500_cb94de6a_.png You have the characteristics of a master street rider. On the way to work, your love for riding sometimes leads you to take the long way. The 50-miles-of-back-roads long way. You live for the perfect road, and plan vacations around riding. You need a bike that can handle your addiction to the twisties as well as comfortably carry two on a weekend trip through the mountains. Your bike is the FJR1300. Can I borrow it someday?

st. charles, mo. ride sat. the 27th
midnightventure replied to Snarley Bill's topic in Watering Hole
Hey did you make your ride to Bagnell Dam? I came through there about 2:45 and saw a Venture sitting in front of the Leatherman. I stopped but coudn't find any one that belonged to the bike. -
A friend of mine that used to have a Venture has two of them. He's about 6'4" and 310 lbs. He claims one of them is the most comfortable he's ever ridden. Their gas tank is very small and he has to stop for gas about every 130 miles. What looks like the gas tank isn't actually the tank. He has turned his into a full dresser using old HD parts.

I have a tendency to get in a hurry but every once in a while I tell myself to slow down. One of the times when I almost went and didn't i was rear ended by a woman on a cell phone.

The copper shielding wire is probably also the ground. If it's not hooked up it needs to be.

My bike had the 404s originally. I tried metzelers. They rode good but started cracking in about 3000 miles. I tried an Avon but it didn't quite last long enough to satisfy me ( rode good though). I now have an Elite 3 on and am liking it so far but don't have enough miles on to tell how its going to last.

Reg vs Premium
midnightventure replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I run regular all the time. I have compared regular and premium and couldn't tell any difference. Currently getting 40 mpg or better. We have a lot of boats and marinas in our area. Some of the marinas are putting out warnings about people that run regular from gas stations. Here in Mo. regular is mandated 10% alcohol. The alcohol draws moisture and when the boats are stored it wreaks havoc on the fuel systems. So if you don't ride consistently then you might want to run premium which here in Mo. is still 100% gas. That could account for some of the difference in mpg for some people since gasohol doesn't contain as much energy.
