  1. Had the same problem with a 3/4 and a 1/2--concluded it was from buffeting, which I was getting when I rode with the face shields in the up position. Couldn't touch that spot on my forehead for a couple days afterward. With the shields down (the beam-me-up-Scotty position), no problem.
  2. TJ, I've had trigger finger for a few years now. In my instance, it was brought on by diabetes (so the doctor says). I've had the injections you're talking about. I don't know the exact compound but there is a numbing agent and a mild steriod to shrink the tendon (if I understood the doctor correctly). My injections were in the knuckles of my index fingers and at the base of my thumb. There is some pain, but grin and bear it because it's worth it. As far as how long between treatments, it will vary. My first one lasted for a few--3 or 4 years--and the last one, a little over 2 years ago is still effective. If the injections don't work, I believe the next step is similar to surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, but don't quote me on that--I haven't gotten that far yet. Do you really need to fix the condition? Don't know, it seems to me to be more of a nuisance than something that has serious consequences. Shouldn't be a problem riding with it/them: your fingers will not be in a position to "trigger" and griping the handlebar will also prevent it. Ride on and good luck.
  3. OK, let's hear from the Canadian contingent: "Shoot, we open the outdoor pools when it gets that warm." (I was stationed with a few of these guys many years ago.)
  4. So, how many here would've done the ride if he'd called a meet and eat in GB? Makes me feel like a wuss for getting all whiny when the temp hits 40--a warm, smart, happy wuss.
  5. Good story, but somebody's got wwwaaaaaayyyy too much time on their hands.
  6. On the other hand, that may be what's keepin' us free of hemorrhoids.
  7. Had a problem with my iWAY 350C shutting off after about a half hour of operation in hot weather. Unit is mounted on a RAM handlebar mount. Others here noted the same problem. Some linked it to heat, others to vibration. I contacted Lowrance and sent them copies of the messages on this board showing others had had similar problems. Got a return authorization even though my unit had been out of warranty a few months. They received it and sent a note back saying they'd send it to engineering for test and evaluation. I responded thanking them for their offer but asked them to send it back "as is" and I would limit its use to my truck and get a specific unit for motorcycles (the iWAY is not weather proof). The next thing in this sequence is a new 350C was delivered by UPS--no charge. Of course, I can't verify the malady is fixed until hot weather arrives, but just wanted to post this note to let everyone know what a great customer service operation Lowrance is. If you're having problems with their products, I highly recommend you contact them. Nothing to lose except a few minutes at the keyboard or on the phone.
  8. . . . or neither of them is thinking. Good catch.
  9. Don't know what these postings are all about--guess I came in too late, which is great with me. Don't need to know to make it through my day. My 2 cents is this: When two people spend a lot of time together and don't argue, only one of them is thinking. OK, I'll throw in another penny: Being different doesn't make either of you wrong, just different. (Thank God.)
  10. Disregard the question, I just realized it may be one of those, "If I tell ya', I gotta' kill ya', things.
  11. Can't be too cold--not a Kiki Bird in sight. (Yeah, they're the ones that sit on the line and scream, "Kiki Kirist! it's cold!") Nice pics, but what is important enough to spend time in that environment? Military? Oil? There are some other things that come to mind, but I'll leave them there. Have a good and safe trip.
  12. Man, I could've written this. I thought I was the only one who did the Styrofoam thing. My bedroom was my cave. Had to have that complete isolation thing, and if I didn't get to bed by 8 am, it was a long day of trying to sleep. I never took any of the OTC meds, but on those days when the stress levels went off scale high, I did find a couple beers helped a lot. Dang, maybe I should work the nights again--I haven't had any beer since I quit 'em. All the luck in the world to you on this one.
  13. Some of you LEOs may correct me on this, but I was told one of the reasons we saw so many cars in the median after a bridge on the interstate was because of the cruise control reaction on the slick bridge surface. Like you say, it doesn't know, or care, what the surface is, whether there's a tight turn, whatever, it does what it was told to do whether you're on two wheels or four.
  14. No experience with them, but they have to be similar to the "chrome" sunglasses--kind of like a see-through mirror. They do look nice.
  15. Wizard for president! Yeah! But only if he buys the beer for the horses and the whiskey for us! Ohterwise, we'll look for a better deal!
  16. OK, maybe I'm a youngin' here at 62--I barely remember the Whizzers and Cushmans, but I had a friend whose Royal Enfield, with magneto, used to launch him about every 10th time he tried to start it. My BSA was much tamer. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've really enjoyed the comments on this subject. Going back to my first post, I was wrong when I said I knew I was going to regret requesting comments. Thanks to each of you for those comments, Merry Christmas and have a great riding New Year.
  17. I didn't add this aspect to my original post because it was already too long, but if we OFs look over our shoulders, that bow-wave we see is the younger generation riders coming through the system. They weren't raised on Harleys, Indians, and the English cafe racers. They're the "Honda Generation" that expects the smoothness, the gadgetry, etc. of that style of bike. As we OFs thin out, so to speak, the big cube, noise makers--just like the muscle cars of our youth were replaced--will be replaced with whining 10KRPM crotch rockets. Like I said earlier, I really like my 2nd Gen, but as long as it has two wheels (max 3), is open-air, and reliable, I'm not too picky.
  18. Haven't seen any posts recently about the next gen RSV. I believe the last was around Aug/Sep just before the news release on the 08s. I've been wondering, what if Yamaha goes the BMW route and puts an in-line 4 in the next RSV in '09 or '10? It would make it a completely different bike, but they do have an I-4 in the FJR1300 that cranks about 145 hp I believe. There're also a couple other things that could be taken from the FJR: standard ABS, FI, and optional clutchless, handlebar paddle shifting (or toe if you like). Yep, it sure would be a different bike--wouldn't sound right I don't believe. They could then maybe go back toward the 1st gen look--which I believe was ahead of its time. (I still like my 2nd gen, though.) I know I'm going to hate myself for this next questions, but . . . any comments? PS Is this way out of cycle? Like we talk about this topic each summer and fall only? I feel like the damned elections--about a year or two ahead of what should be.
  19. Wonder what the difference is in cost of living? Here's a site that may help you figure out what you need, dollar wise, versus where you are now. There are others like this available, but I don't happen to have them bookmarked anymore. http://www.homefair.com/find_a_place/calculators/salarycalc/index.asp?cc=1 Just Googled "salary calculator" and came up with several sites. This one looks like what I wanted in the first place--cost of living comparisons. http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html Good luck.
  20. Squidley, Don't discount what you guys do here, it's called "leadership." That is an abstract term to a lot of people so let me throw in an example. Remember when your kids were playing youth sports, and how the jerk teams and their jerk parents acted? I'll bet my next paycheck that the coach was a jerk, too. Most sports teams (and groups like this site) take on the characteristics of their leaders. I think that's what we're all trying to say here, "thanks for the leadership" that allows us to know the limits while providing the best info available on Yamaha bike bikes. Again, thanks to all for this site.
  21. Don, Don't know if your words inspired me or if it's "just the season," but you just conned me out of my first donation. I should have done this sooner with all the help I've received here, but most of it involved spending money and, consequently, I had none left over to . . . Anyway, I appreciate all you're doing here and wanted to say it to your wallet. Thanks.
  22. My guess was '56, but can't really tell the difference--I was so young then. What are the visual differences, if any, between the 55s and 56s? Couldn't be much.
  23. You're dead on the money, Eagleeye, and it's a great feeling. Now, if I can just live long enough to piss off the social security folks for a few years, I'll go quietly.
  24. Thanks to all. I think I'm going to do this progressively: try the 1.5" risers suggested, then look at the Flanders bars if that doesn't work. As for shimming the fairing, you may be onto something, but I had the fairing off a couple weeks ago and I ain't screwin' with that thing again. By the way, it is the levers that hit my knees and not the bars themselves, so removing the weights won't do anything for me. I don't want to change the position of the levers, though, as they feel "just right" now. And the last thing will be the deep well Craftsman sockets.
  25. Orrin, The best kept secret in your state is La Crosse. From the view on the bluff to lunch at the Yacht Club to the dinner cruise on the Island Girl--what a vacation we had there a few years back. If I were gonna' move again, it'd be at the top of my list. Down my way, the biggest attraction has to be the USAF Museum. Here is their web site: http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/. Tons of stuff to see there--plan on a full day. Select "Exhibits" for a complete rundown. Each Spring we have the Hamvention at Hara Arena. Hamsters--no wait, that ain't right--Ham operators from all over the world show up for the 3-day event in April (I believe). Rides? Mostly crowded interstates, but you can drop down toward Cincinnati and pick up US 50. Either direction is good riding, although I can only vouch for 50 East into WV. All kinds of motorcycle shops in the area-some better than others--if you need anything done while you're out. Since my wife still works, I have to say I'M usually good for a coffee and a sandwich, but don't worry, that just means I'll buy. PS Forgot to mention the Wright Brother's original bicycle shop and the view from their Memorial of their original flying field. Now, for those of you from North Carolina: Drop the "in" in you your "First in Flight" claim and we'll not argue, but a little bit of sand and a lot of wind only played their part AFTER the design and development phases.
