  1. Hello to all, Just picked up a 2001 RSV and would like to swap out a couple of parts that are on the scoot: 1) It presently has fish tail exhaust system - would like to go back to a stock pipe. Anyone have a set? 2) There is a Corbin seat on the bike - would like to also go back to a stock seat, both rider and pass. Anyone have stock seats? Willing to trade, purchase, etc... More information upon request. Please PM me, and I guess we can go from there. Thanks as always for the time. Till next time, ride safe. Ricardo.
  2. Hello to all; I have just experienced some issues with the lower fairings and the travel trunk. The lower fairing left side (saddled up) is cracked at the point in which it mounts to the inner fairing cover / frame. As far as the travel trunk lid, the male latch mount on the left side (looking in from back) has cleanly separated and sheared off. I have read that these types of issues are covered under the five year warrantee. If so, is there a generic claim number to be used or is it a case by case basis? The local dealers by me are not very friendly when it comes to these warrantee issues. Nobody wants to be bothered. Can this be handled directly with Yamahahaha? Thanks for the info, when time avails:feedback:. Till next time, ride safe. Busta.
  3. Hey Fellow & Lady Venturers, I want to thank you folks for the feedback. Especially the part about them being very slick to the road when new. I will be sure to scuff them up before going for a ride. I did verify the date code Rear: 4408 / Front: 4608. I was happy to see that these were from an even newer lot, than back at SWMoto Whse. The shoes are mounted and balanced, assembly on Sunday . Cannot wait to be back on the road. Thanks again for all the information share. Till next time, ride safe. Ricardo aka - "Busta"
  4. Hello to all; Purchased Avon Venoms last Sunday evening from SWMoto Tires (internetpurchase), had them in my hands here in NY on Tuesday 3:pm. Cannot say enough about that. Brought them to get mounted/balanced, and a few questions came up from my MotoMechanic. * No clearly marked spot on the tire for the approximate location for the valve stem to be placed(I think signifying the heavy point of the tire?)? * Could not seem to identify the date of manufacturing? (Generally, my mechanic seemed to be somewhat disillusioned about making a tire purchase via the internet. I am also aware that the local dudes do not get a chance to make a few dollars on the sale themselves.) These questions prompted me to make a couple of phone calls to SWMoto Tires. Here is what I just found out, maybe some or all knew this. South West Moto Tires is owned by Arizona Honda - Dealership. Their direct phone number is 1 800 892 2089. The fella I spoke with, his name was Eric. Very helpfull. I had him pull a couple of ties to see what the general date of manufacturing was from the lot of tires on the shelf. The dates he had on the shelf were from week:22 of year:08. I confirmed this information with my mechanic, same as the ones I received. Next question: Is this a normal amount of time which tires are in que before actual use? 2208 is June of 08 to now = 14 months old on the shelf.? Please advise if possible, share your story. Thanks very much for your time and input. It is always appreciated. Till next time, ride safe. If all else fails, look up...smile...and give thanks! Caio4Now. Ricardo.
  5. Hey folks, Hope all is well in everyones neck of the woods. I input the part number on the HF website and it came up " currently not available"? Do we have any additional information on this? I guess I will need to locate the closet HF Store as well. Possibly N.J. Let me know. Thanks. Ricardo.
  6. Hey folks, Recently spoke with some wing riders up at Americade. They swear by the E-3's. So here is my question for all of you seasoned Venture Riders: I am preparing for my front and rear tire purchase. So far the only tires the scoot has seen is Michelin Commanders. Second set with terrific wear. I am reading alot about the Avon tires?? Now reading about the E-3's?? Is there any overall comparitive information based on actual use of the above listed. I am happy with the Commanders. But, I am always willing to try newer technologies, or better performing products. Thanks always for the opportunity to reach out for tech support. Ricardo.
  7. Hey Ruffy, Put me down for the set. Great value.... I am also looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the lower engine guard / cowling defelctor. I am not liking the present set up too much. Send me a PM when the front set is ready. Thanks, Boose.
  8. Hello to all; I just completed the antenna upgrade and all is fine. Took the scoot out on the road this morning and the tunes were coming in from areas I have not heard from in a long time. Got home and parked. Went back out to wash the bike and switched on the key to aux. too play some tunes and I had very little volume. Started up the bike to see if maybe it had something to do??? No avail, same result. At Vol 30, I can hear music very clearly out of all four speakers, but with very little volume. The volume control knob, when turned in the direction to decrease volume, does just that. It seems that the range of volume is happening between setting 1 ~ 3. I went through the settings to see if the fade was possibly affecting the output volume. I am unsure as to where to look next. Is there a mute button that I am not aware of?? Your help is always much appreciated. Thanks. Ricardo.
  9. Hello all, Have not been able to make a M&G. Destinations and schedules have not yet crossed paths. Weekend including 9 - 25 / 26 in the only one for me. Exactly were in PA are we talking. I would be coming from L.I. - NY. Let me know and keep me posted. Ricardo.
  10. Hello again, Thanks Lynn and Dan for your feedback. I believe I read a detail for the swap on the stator. Just cannot seem to find it at this time. I thinks this is the way I will go. I am riding two up most time anyway, and will have heated wears for both. I have converted all which can be to LED myself. So, the system should run just fine. Thanks for the assistance. Talk back at ya soon. Ricardo.
  11. Hello Al, Everything sounds great, but if you check the prevoius thread.... you will see that First Gens are full of bugs. (Something is bugging me). I had to get that in. Of course I am a Second Gen owner. We are always getting beat up. Just the same, have a safe journey home. Enjoy the new toy! Ricardo.
  12. Just would like to get some more definition to the issue and possible upgrades. I ??understand?? the load issues at hand. I am also wanting to add heated clothing. I ride a 06 RSV. I think the stock stator is rated for 35 charging amps. Is this correct? Somewhere I read that you can upgrade the stator in order to have more / faster charging capacity? I am definitely over my head here. I spoke to a local M/C dealer and explained this to one of the mechanics and his response was not to favorable for this type of upgrade. His opinion, if room allows, is to go with a deeper cycle / larger battery. Can someone help me to better understand the electrical system....... please. I would like to do what is best for the entire system, without disconnecting anything if possible. Thanks for the time. Ricardo
  13. I have got some vacation time if you got the pesos senor. All kidding aside, if you do not mind having the bike ridden there. What is you time frame? Let me know. I might be able to get some riders to tag along. I ride with Star Touring and Riding, Chapter 278 Long Island NY. Give me a call : 631 807 2397. Tak'r easy, Ricardo.
  14. I submitted to soon. I cannot agree more with Ferrantelli and the boys... RLP is withouta doubt worth two times what we pay for it. The Motorman is the Man!!! Order it today, you will not go wrong. See ya. Till next time... Keep it up... Straight... and Rolling. Tak'r easy, Busta.
  15. In addition to all of these helpful technical findings... the thing which made the most difference for me was the addition of the Barons riser and Star Bar. Having the handle back and up more gave the machine a much improved handling profile. It felt like it all of a sudden had power steering. Many folks have gone full bore and performed the "Flanders" make over, which in my estimation is probably the best way to go. But... I did not have $650 balloons to accomodate the swap. The risers and bar cost about 175.00. I would suggest ordering longer cables for the push-pull at the throttle. All in all. If you do reduce the tire size, install the lift links, and do the riser alone (using the stock bars) - you will have a much better handling machine. Good luck and be well. Safe riding to you.
  16. Bill, I found an early June post and thread from Freebird to Beer30 regarding those same leather covers (by the way, beer30 has some outstanding looking leather products of his own). I placed a bid, we will see. Thanks for the help. Ricardo
  17. Bill, It did not show any leather bra covers for the saddlebags. can you send me the exact link or vendor information. Thanks. Ricardo
  18. I cannot remember where I saw a link or add for a guy who made leather bra covers for the hard boxs' on 2nd gens. They were a real nice fit and you could trim it out with a chrome strip as well. Could anyone direct me to the source?? Thanks in advance for the help. Ricardo.
  19. Hello Bob, I have the same luggage ( the main bag ). I strapped it to the rack for two long distance trips. I do not see any signs of webbing in the paint. I own a 06 B/C RSV. Believe me it shows everything. I do not think you will have any issues doing so. Good luck and safe travels. My third trek is coming up, and we are scheduled to ride 2400 miles from L.I. NY to CL OH to Canada to Bar Har Maine to L.I. NY. I let you know how it goes, with the luggage on board. Additionally, I just purchased from a vendor on Ebay a cargo platform which will slilp into the Venture Daddy receiver. This is were the camping equipment will be. You may want to consider something like this as well. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320272403141&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 If you contact the vendor a specify a particular size, he may make it up for you and the purchase can be made as a buy it know. He has a standard size up for auction, but I thought it was too big for my use. Good luck. Ricardo Bustamante Sgt of Arms Star Chapter #278 L.I. NY
  20. Thanks Don, I will look foward to any additional responses.
  21. I have four questions: Your feedback is much appreciated. *The rear shock - please explain the air pressure and identifying the proper pressure for a two up situation (is there a better more robust shock or spring to retrofit?) *Do you know if by using the the Barons Star Bar w / Barons Riser Extensions, do you need to change the cables? *Do you have a list of retrofits / fixes which should be done while the ferring is off the machine? *Tire wear issues: Droped off the machine to the repair shop for the 15K inspection. Prior to, I noticed some unusual wear in both the front and rear tire. Front - a very slight ridge running the entire right of center circumference of the tire, the rear just the opposite side. With the repair shop, we agreed it is time for a new set of tires. ( I run Mich. Comm. for two up conditions PSI F 40 (12k miles) R 44~46(8k miles) ) I check pressure before each run. Shortly thereafter, I went over to a buddies house to speak to him and check his tire wear. He has a VStar1100. He runs Metzlers. Respectfully, his tires show exactly the same type of tire wear, a slight ridge both left of center front and opposite in the rear. While discussing this, another rider pal shows up, another VStar1100 running Dunlops. the same issue, but the exact opposite with regard to front and back wear. Front ridge found to be right of center and so on. Both riders meticulous about T-Clock inspections and so fourth. I am wondering if this wear pattern is seen on all bikes. Only Yamahas Star bikes?? Any ideas. Two different bike models, three different tire manufacturers, and a good maintenance track record. Thank you all for your time and patience. Respectfully, R. Bustamante Long Island, NY

    Risers

Just purchased a Star Bar through Barons. It requires the Barons riseer extensions as well. At the same time, the site declares no need to change the cables or lines. Has anyone done this. What has been the result. Thanks for the time. Ricardo.
  23. Hello to all, I would have to say that with my 06RSV, I am averaging between 38 ~ 43 mpg US. Reading the posts on this matter, I find some very interesting data which should be compiled and crunched. I ride with a good size group regularly. The majority of us have been riding the yama brand for quite some time. It has been duely noted that bad to fair weather riding may not be the best friend for our scoots performances. I am not an expert, and have noted from the posts that some folks riding up in the mountains / colder climates are not doing badly with the mpg. My personell experience, hoping this will not be a "red-herring", is that in the cooler / damp weather my mpg is at the lower range, consistently, and just the opposite on those picture perfect days. Be mindful that my information is under consideration of the fact that, I was not "meeting a deadline or smelling flowers", in either situation. Some of the other parameters which come into play is the composition fo the fuel, how much E content, HOW FAST ARE YOU NUTTEN DOWN THE SLAB YOUNG MAN?, weight factor and wind resistance - although you did mention as a single you did not see a great improvment. The mileage I reported, is either way, two up or single (that be 350lbs - 250lbs respectively). As a matter of fact, on a 1600 mile ride, we averaged 37 or 38 miles to the gallon US with all the compartments full to include a trunk bag (the bike and gear was total wet 1235lbs). Ooooops. I was shocked. I thought for certain I would see low thirties. I will be confirmaing some of these numbers shortly. Long distance, with and without the ("walk in closet") the wife. Did I say that? In order to explain the strange phenom in the UK, I think, maybe painstaking, a process of comparing notes with fellow venture riders in your neck of the woods would be of more benefit. If not enough feedback on this forum, contact a STAR riding and touring group. Good luck in your quest for the Grail. I will report back to this thread upon completion of my next mission, or two, three, four. Although, the information posted to date is definitely coming to you from the more senior experienced members on this forum than myself. Thanks for the time and oppurtunity. Best reagards, BUSTA Ricardo Bustamante If all else fails, look up - smile - say thanks.
  24. Erich, Mark (Gibvel) is absolutely wright. I do have the can of plexus myself. Thank you Mark. That is the same stuff our fighter pilots use on their face shields and canopies of the fighter jets. As far as being trusting; I do know what you mean. I purchased my maching from a "Full Bird Colnel" 30 yrs. US Army. The bike was hummin when I first saw it. Garage kept and all. Less than a year old and only 5K on it. Brand new set of Commanders. Man what a day it was. My smile was so big, I did not feel the rain coming down. Good luck Brother Erich. Give us all a holla when you get home. Talk back at you then. Regards, Ricardo
  25. Erich, I own an 1100 and an RSV, as do now you. I purchased my RSV down in LA (lower Alabama - Ozark) just about one year ago. Total miles to home base 1650. I took my time and rode over 4.5 days. Do your self a couple of favors listed below. The information you have rec'd so far is spot on, except the dude from the 4K in 5 days. Take your time lad, it is a new machine to you the rider. * Arrange to visit first with a local dealer to have the bike looked over. At a minimum, request use of their lift so you can do as thorough job as possible. Bring a tire pressure gage with you to the purchase, so you check the tires before you pull of the curb. I did this and at the same time I had the machines warrantee switched over to my name. Your machine is a little older so the warrantee may not be in play. Get the bike looked at, just the same. Every time you get a bike, you only get one shot at it. Do it wright * Take the bike to a local open venue so you can put her through some paces, before heading home. The Venture tends to be somewhat head heavy at first. Do not be lazy with her. Posture and arm position to the bars is important. A backrest is a very good option and helps with riding foward in the saddle. Once you develop the feel, you will be able to do barlocked u-turns. Ride Like a Pro is a great tool to help you understand the dynamics and techniques of the ride - actual trial and error will prove to be priceless. You will also have that big old grin on yo face. * Make sure instead of all the MP3/DVD/IPOD/CD/ blah blah blah, you have a good sound route selected which includes any out to deal with unaticipated traffic/road/conditions or construction. (A GPS is an option to consider.) I ran into a ton of it coming out of Alabama. Handled it well, and kept it moving. I am not trying to be a party stomper but, priorities first - bells and whistles later. * Very important coupled with the above; try to also layout along your route selected the list of VR assistance persons. Their numbers etc... I forget who suggested this, but good heads up on that one. Honda GL users have a book published each year for the daisy chain of folks out there who can assist, put you up etc... Take advantage of your resources. Gas ups plan on approx each 150 ~ 180 miles. Projected with all running top notch 38 ~ 42 MPG. Clock it and see. I think you have a 4.5 with 1.5 reserve. Check on that. * The obvious applies: Dry gear, clothing changes, personal sundries, your EZ - Pass (if applicable)- It worked for me, tank bag for map and accessable funds for tolls if EZ is not avail (I used one: Marsee-worked out great), good glass cleaner / rainx, always:you tipo riding gear/gloves/armor jacket of choice/leather overpants for that hard ride, if you intend to go for it. There is a lot to consider. Most of us have for you. Pick and choose wisely. Congratulations on the new addition. Godspeed on your ad-Venture. Good luck and enjoy. Regards, Ricardo Bustamante Sgt. @ Arms - STAR Touring & Riding Chapter 278 - Long Island, N.Y.
