Nevermind I found the link. Thanks anyway.
-
Would you have a link? ...... Are you suggesting that Georgia is not the right place?
-
Does anyone know who the Georgia contact would be to join?

I HIGHLY recommend you check this I just had the exact same problem and fixed it by doing exactly what Saddlebum suggested. I confirmed this was the problem by wiggling the starter button while engine was running and the light would come and go.

There you go best of both worlds...... If want a reliable touring bike and a hot rod project. I'm projecting on my 1st gen as we speak. Putting it back together for the millionth time. Most all of the ongoing problems seem to relate to corroded electrical connections. Currently resurrecting the audio/CB sound system.

Somehow the visual of you driving that ride isn't quite right......; It should be me driving that ride.

I own a 87VR MKII and have been riding a 07 Midnight Venture loaner for the past 2 years. Being intimately familar with both, here are the facts. 1st gens are faster when they are running right. But, Being 25 years old requires a lot of TLC, Tweeking, maintenance and up grades. They have a few more standard features than the second gens that I like. The second gen is not that much slower and there is a real advantage in not having to work on it every time you turn around. Unless your hung up on speed the 2nd gen is a great ride. My advice:backinmyday: for what it's worth. If you want to tour getting a touring bike with a trailer hitch. Touring and long distance motorcycle camping is much easier with a pull behind trailer. I'd go for a low mileage used 2nd gen. Save the bucks:mo money: have a great ride :7_6_3[1]:seriously consider the trailer hitch.

I believe Barend has a hack he is not planning to install on his new bike. He did have it mounted on his MKI. You might give him a PM. Or, you could get that wife problem fixed. I'm not sure which one would be cheaper.

Nah don't do that. It would propably cheaper and easier to talk someone closer in to helping you out. There's not much we can do about the price of gas is there?
-
I'm sure you could but by the time I got my passport renewed you probably will be finished. Other wise I would be glad too, except WV from where i'm at is a hop, skip and a jump. From here to where you are is a hop, skip, jump and a longa$$ haul. Although, if you could wait on new passport, buy my gas, provide tools, materials, room and board I'd consider coming up and helping with the labor.

Thought I'd offer. Good luck repossessing your truck.

Hey Yammer, Could you use a little help for a couple of days on this project. I suddenly have plenty of time on my hands and am about bored to tears hanging around the house. I'm handy and can do anything in the building trades. If you could use or want the help I could ride up for a few days. Or, are you going for the most number of post pages on a single VR.org thread topic? Bob

Hey Gary when you find the t- shirts let me know I want one. Bob

Brian, To be honest with you all advertising bugs me. We are constantly bombarded by advertising from all directions 24/7/365. Even though sight polution advertising and noise polution advertising bug me I can still tune them out and ignore them for the most part. It's the In Your Face advertisers that you can't ignore are the ones I believe should be outlawed. The forms of advertising I hate the most are, in order of degree of offensiveness to me: TV Commercials, In any given hour on any channel there are 4o minutes of advertising and 20 minutes of programming. How did we allow this to happen. I am appalled that they forced us into to paying for tv by making us pay the cable and satelite fees or no TV. But, then to contnue to add insult to injury by making us endure 40 minutes of advertising every hour. If I were ever elected President of the United States the first thing I would do is outlaw Advertising on TV. Telemarketing by phone and text. I know all about registering on the No-Call list But, I have religiously registered on the No Call list and have never seen any appreciable reduction in nusance telemarketing calls. Spam Half the time I spend checking my personal email is spent eliminated unsolicited Spam. Just an aggrivating waste of my time I'm forced into dealing with. The little ads on the left of the page, in them scheme of things don't hardly bother me at all. Most of the time I just ignore them. I thought I would just speak up in this case because I do know what kind of crooks this particular company is and felt compelled to warn others on this site that might have seen the same ad. And I quess voice my opinion. Excuse the Rant.

I've probably done it at least a hundred times. I always go down it from the north then turn around and go back across it the other way. Seems about the same to me.

Hey Don, I just noticed an ad that appearred on the web site below the list of friends in the left hand column on the website. My question is: How are these ads generated? Are they approved by the website or do they appear automatically because of related content on the internet? The reason I ask is because the ad that drew my attention was titled Conyers Area Bike Dealer and was an ad for a business that I am familiar with and have had dealings with Rockdale Cycles and Racing. All Bad. I have posted on this site before about this business in detail and about the $1,400 rip off nightmare I had with them on my 87VR when I first owned my bike. This experience was before I found this site. I will say that the only good thing that resulted from that experience with Rockdale Cycles was that it set up a set of circumstances that eventually led me to discover this site, the best thing that has happened to me since acquiring my 87VR. Since joining this site and the resulting knowledge and help obtained on the 1st Gens from the knowledgable members of the VentureRiders.org, and because of that bad experience with Rockdale Cycles I have adopted a policy that no one works on my bike except me and trusted VR.org friends. In retrospect I know that had it not been for VR.org I would not have been able to afford to keep, ride, work on and maintain my 87VR. There is no way I could have afforded to pay a shop much less pay for Yamaha OEM parts for all of the work that I (with some help from others on this site) have done to my bike over the past ten years. Being able to work on the bike due to all of the helpful knowledge obtained from the members of this site. I say all of that to say this: The $12.00 per year membership dues is the best investment I have ever made in my 87VR. You can trust the advice, knowledge, experience and people involved with this site. If you too, saw the ad and were considering doing business with Rockdale Cycles, don't you will probably end up regretting it. They call them stealers instead of dealers for a reason. But, I quess I'm preaching to the choir. Suggestion for new forum: "What Not to do, things, places and people to avoid"

I have a 1900 vintage Thomas Edison crank Phonegraph in cabinet with all of the original records. What is that worth to you?

I am pro helmet since I have had several crashes where the helmet probably saved my life. However, I do understand the pleasure of riding without a helmet as I did for a good part of my Sturgis 2008 trip out west. But, most of all I just don't want to end up like Gary Bussey.
