  1. http://amipowersports.com Go there click on the you tube link. Play it 20 seconds the scroll down to the availability, have visors, goggles and more. Think it's too rich for my blood, but I sure could have used it on the last trip. Just to keep you in the know so when someone says did you see? You can say yea, last year. Available 2014 spring made right here is Ohio.
  2. I have heard it happening on Roadstar's and you can't get the cap off. On that bike we go pump less and vent the cap, and loctite it then.
  3. Look hard at the Tourmaster one piece suit. Mine is too long for me so that would be about right foot you, if your in my parts of town you can try it on. A ride down to iron pony in Websterville is sure to deliver.
  4. There are settings for the mix of volume of the two. I have edsets and on my trip when I needed to mute the radio I just went to aux when nothing was there or turn the col down all the way on the radio by pushing audio then vol down. But I liked the radio played through voice at a perfect volume. But when using the CB it did mute it out until there was no modulation on the CB and that can be adjusted by pushing CB twice and when it gets to SQ turn it higher to hear less.
  5. I go there about once a week pulling two trailers for YRC. Anywhere from the Bronx to way out on Long Island around East Islip. And I found your post to be right on.
  6. In the second post of my double post (by mistake) I posted a direct like to the part so its easy for everyone to find.
  7. Thats a daytime running light and as suggested on other sights, at the bottom is a note that: LED fog lights are for cosmetic purposes only, and will not project light in the same way that the factory bulbs do. Your not going to beat the reliability of a factory system concerning lights. So I would just change out to a more modern bulb as some have suggested, designed for use in this application. I have seen far too many troubles from aftermarket kits and HID systems and gimmicky E bay type bulbs that sell for just enough to make you keep them once you look at the return policy. Kinda like Custom Dynamics, I returned lights never opened and they charged me $50 PLUS the $19 Shipping both ways. SO I paid $69 to get a turn signal kit that would not work, that they said was plug and play, and it cost me that much to return it.
  8. Keep us posted on how this works out because if that is a fix, I would carry one on trips. I clicked on the link, looks like a good place to shop, real mechanics not just part swappers. . http://www.powersportswarehouse.com/KeywordProducts/Search?criteria=18-4615
  9. Naaaaaaaaaaa http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130805_125818_zpsaee830f8.jpg Here I am at a pump in Revenna Ohio Dishing up a dose of 100% REAL GAS! Find your local station at Realgas.com. and if you have to tote 5 gallon cans from a Marina, it's worth it. If I am in a car I bring a Can to this station to bring it home to the bike. And if you have a local independant gas station and you ask them to carry REAL GAS they may. I used to deliver fuel, and I found a lot of Farm Co OP type stations also demanded Real Gas to run in their equipment, they didn't want any of the ETHANOL CRAP in their tanks, go figure! If you pull up on a HD they won't sell you real gas anyways.
  10. On the Cables, I do not think it is possible to beat the EDSETS. http://www.edsets.com/ They were slightly higher in price but I think quite a bit higher in preformance. I just took a 2000 mile trip with them and they performed flawlessly. Keep this in mind when comparing, The noise canceling technology EDSETS uses is same as Military, The noise a helicopter pilot gets is about the same as a bike going down the road at 90 MPH and at that speed, I was talking to Truck Drivers on the CB and one after another commented on how they cannot even tell I am on a bike, they heard no wind noise. And that is with a HALF helmet. They have the Thunderclap speakers, You use them with ear plugs in for best sound quality, You will not no NOT be able to turn up the volume past 15 without ear plugs in They are that loud. Besides having ear plugs in gives you Bass, and likewise if you're using the speaker system. EDSETS have two mic options, plug in wired for like in a full face helmet, Or the RCA BOOM, I have one helmet set up for the wired version and I use the RCA boom with the Half helmet. EDSETs also come with a Stereo Jack for your own ear buds, Thats what I used on my trip, You can also use the speakers, and your passenger can tap into your helmet with their own ear buds and listen to CB and music with you. They just wont be able to talk, great for some situations, ah hem. I made an adaptor for my Half helmet, So on my trip I plugged the EDSETS into the Passenger Plug, and ran the EDSET unit into my UTOPIA Bad Azz Backrest Pouch, so the ear bud and Microphine wires is all that came out of there and up to my helmet. I didn't have that large cord dangling all around. It was great! Far as I know only EDSETS has those options, AND you can use the EDSETS system to narrate your Go Pro Videos as you take them, Really cool. Whatever system you get, if you tape a high power magnet to the cord where it needs to be to stick it to the rubber part of the center of the tank, thus keeping it off the tank and scratching it. When you jump off the magnet just releases. And for minimal cost EDSETS will sell you kits for additional helmets. I was lucky my helmet had pockets for speakers and they just slipped right in complete install in less than a minute.
  11. Do a Google Search, you can't trust e bay people! Lots of info out there none that would make me want to shuck out any cash whatsoever.
  12. The more pressure in the tire, the more weight it will handle, GVWR, and the cooler the tire will run, you can run anywhere up to what it says on the sidewall, but if you are heavy you had better be right there at the Max recommended PSI or your risking a blowout. Underinflated for the load on the tire will cause it to flex too much and thus cause friction and heat, that heat will soften the compounds that hold the tire together and the tire will either BLOW or delaminate. At Stugis one year I think it was progressive that set up a text and weighed bikes as they came in and checked the Air in the tires. A gigantic number of bikes were underinflated by far, and a lot were overweight for the tire they had on. I actually check the weight of my bike empty, loaded one and two up, and two up and loaded The rear tire needs the Max PSI to support the weight back there. And I have run it that way on two bikes over 70K miles. And most of that twisty southern roads on hot days with Iron Butt trips to get to the rides. http://www.bikerenews.com/Stories_Archives/Motorcycle_tires.htm You will never be overweight on the front of a bike. So don't worry about that too much. but when choosing a rear tire if you are two up or tow, you should be seeking the tire with the greatest Gross Weight Rating.
  13. OK I did all of that area and some of it twice trying to get back to places I did not do, you know the deal. Blood mountain was seriously disappointing, I thought it was like something tough. Biker Barn was cool, nice lady owner, signed the wall spent some cash there. BUT, No so thrilled with Georgia, How many signs they have that said your speed is being monitored by detection devices, and the occasional County Sheriff sitting up in the weeds. Not that I won't go back it was cool, but not what I was told it was. So I ran UP through Smokey Mountain National Park, over to Gatlinburg, and took 32 S at the 321 32 split in Cosby, Best road ever. Got it on the go pro. Amazing road. Then went back up the Dragons Back. Got the T shirt, Decal, patch and Pin and made it home 400 miles in 6 hours, What a great last two days! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130830_120902-1_zps546627cb.jpg I ride maybe two solid months a year on adventure rides, THIS is the best road ever, uploading a go pro, if it works I'll post a link. Go 32 S here. You will end up on the Appalachian Trail, on gravel at the TN NC state line. I decided at that point to turn around and do it again! And Go Pro it! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130829_175115_zps248dcdae.jpg
  14. Running on reserve is not such a bad idea. In fact its a good idea, the Venture has plenty of fuel management assistance built in. Delete the reserve thing. Its also better on your fuel pump. And I notice the bike runs better when it has half a tank or more, same as my Roadstar. Must be a Yamaha thing. Plus its drawing low all the time, no place for water and trash to hide. The fuel system can take trash and water a little at a time its just a hiccup. But if you haven't hit reserve in a long time and you dump a load of water and trash in there its clean the carbs time, we love that intimacy. ?.? OK that's it! Everyone has orders to run on reserve! I just convinced myself!
  15. Yesterday I posted from this note about The Back of the Dragon in Virginia. And how primo a road that is. And I lead on I was working my way down to Blood Mountain. The Suches Ga. Loop. And I was like hinting for some ride info. Like when you all go to Vogel, I mean that loop is right there you ride it right? So I came down 60 went up 180 and 19? And I'm in a hotel waiting to do the rest in the am. Guy says go south on 129 and 19. But anyways. The 180 before you get to Vogel was OK road but after that is was sidewalk sissy stuff. Looks like the Gauntlet for me in the am. Any tips or tricks or places to stop for swag or eat? I'm in Blairsville Ga now. This note drives me nuts. It like does what it wants, changes weird and stuff. My original post was. Back of the Dragon Va. Anyone seen it?
  16. I saw some at wally world for like 29 bucks, had two distances in each light, I was looking hard. I just want critter lights. Have no driving lights and don't want them, have on my Roadstar and never use them.
  17. Carry a fuel hose as long as your trunk is wide, If someone needs fuel. Maybe u. Remove fuel line at donor bike petcock, turn on fuel and drain into can, bottle or worse case a removed fuel tank (the donee's LOL) I use same method to go get gas for my lawn equipment, ride fill donate off reserve side and that keeps tank free of trash, and water. Yes seafoam, On this bike seriously treat half a tank as empty. You can't go wrong doing that.
  18. LOL two thread's were mixing on my tablet, staying in a hotel and staying on reserve. I couldn't stop it. LOL. Corrected.
  19. What good would separate tanks do anyways, the second one would be full of water or stale gas.
  20. ok read this and save yourself. RIGHT There is only one tank and one compartment and one outlet to the tank. think twin towers. On most bikes with carbs two tubes just above the petcock both feed the fuel pump. the reserve tube is shorter, thus draws the last of your tank. it still will not draw the last drop. That protects the pumpp and carb from normal trash. TRASHTALKING? Avoid trash like I do regular shots of seafoam. PLUS when you need fuel for things at home lawnmower lets say. Get out and ride. Take the bike down and fill it up. Go home and take the clamp of the petcock after you ran it dry in OFF. Put on suitable length of fuel line (mine is as wide as trunk and that's where I store it, to help others) put the line into the gas can or lawn equipment and turn it to RESERVE. Let all that drain out lawnmowers love it. And who cares if you have trash in your lawnmower, your not dead on the road. This in effect flushes the tank of bad fuel. Add some good fuel enough to get you back to the station. (or leave some in there) Carry the extra fuel line always to help stranded. Drain fuel into a transfer container of worse case remove their tank and drain into it. If YOU run totally out and don't want to bother AAA or AMA do the mentioned lean the bike trick, or take the tank off and tip it to the front the left then back and install. thats all you will get. Another way is to drop wrenches in there, it raises the level of the fluid. steelies or marbels work great but I only mention it because I have done it with a Marine issue Desert Dune Buggy. Yes they had them don't make me post a picture. And I'm not going to mention under the sidecover is access to the flow side of the pump, take that off and put the spare hose of that and you can shoot gas anywhere. But, our pump shoots to a specific psi. it won't shoot like a fire hose. I notice that this bike runs out and when I fill it up it only takes like 4 gallons. so the pickup sucks, or er ah doesn't suck very good. hope Maxair sells a pingle petcock forit like I put on my Roadstar. its far superior. So please, carry the extra fuel line as wide as the trunk, use your bike as a tanker to deliver gas using the RES selection and save yourself troubles. and SEAFoam! 1.5 oz per tank. or 3 oz per tank of MMO or Lucas. Also I like to say, just as a car, best to treat half a tank as empty, saves a lot of condensation and work on the fuel pump.
  21. Dacheeta, You just saved me from having to post that. A Raider comes right from factory mixed as well as a lot of HD, and of course Running Darkside, I've run a mix. The mixing thing is for vehicles with more than two wheels, then it can be a problem. Like on a car.
  22. Well it's this one, I have had it on my Roadstar for 60K miles, http://www.kandpengineering.com/ Don't know where the idea came that the filtration is not enough, these are what they use on aircraft and spaceships, um like major problems if there is a problem. http://www.kandpengineering.com/technicalhighlights.shtml From FAQ. 2) Has this type of filtration technology been proven? This type of filtration has been in use for many many years and has proven itself in NASCAR, Formula One, the Military and in the Aerospace industry. We have been inventing, designing engineering and manufacturing oil filters using this proven technology since 1995. K&P Engineering also manufactures oil filters that are FAA approved for certified aircraft. A word from K&P Engineering, manufacturer of the world's finest oil filters: "Thank you for your interest in our filters. We think it's great that people are calling attention to the importance of oil and it's filtration. The more information we can get to people like you the more our product will stand above the competition. Remember, oil is the lifeblood of your machine..... keep it clean!" Frequently Asked Questions 1) Where is the K&P Engineering filter made? Proudly designed, engineered, sourced and manufactured in the USA. Make sure you receive a genuine K&P Engineering product. Back to Top 2) Has this type of filtration technology been proven? This type of filtration has been in use for many many years and has proven itself in NASCAR, Formula One, the Military and in the Aerospace industry. We have been inventing, designing engineering and manufacturing oil filters using this proven technology since 1995. K&P Engineering also manufactures oil filters that are FAA approved for certified aircraft. I don't see K&N FAA approved. OR Certified. Back to Top 3) What kind of materials are used in the K&P Engineering oil filters? The filter housing and filter element end caps are carved out of a solid chunk of 6061T6 billet aluminum, which not only looks great but aids in dissipating heat and reducing weight. The filter element is made from medical grade, type 304 stainless steel micronic filter cloth to provide unmatched protection against oil contamination and resultant engine damage. A super strength neodymium rare earth magnet is installed in the top of the filter element used in the spin on models, which provides magnetic pre-filtering of the oil. The adhesive used in the filter assembly process is good to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, far above normal operating temperature of 180 to 300 degrees. The hydraulic quad-ring gasket doubles the seal between the filter housing and the engine and helps provide burst pressures exceeding 1000 psi. Back to Top 4) How does this type of filtration compare to paper oil filters? We use ASTMF316 testing procedures which eliminate many of the user variables found in the SAE procedures. Basically, the filter media is pressurized from one side, and when the media starts passing particles, that is the micron rating. We sent filter media from several common brands of paper filters to the lab to be run through the ASTM test. We sent the media to the lab with no names, just numbers for identification so they wouldn't have any idea what brand filter they were testing. The results for the paper filters ranged from 48 microns for the best filter to over 300 microns for the worst filter. Our tests were right in line with other testing results we have researched that have paper media filters passing particles anywhere between 50 and 90 microns. What does this mean? Paper filters are rated on averages, percentages of efficiency (also known as beta ratios) and multiple passes, so a 10 micron rated paper filter (as advertised on the packaging) may be letting particles 50 microns and larger through. The medical grade stainless steel cloth that we use is consistent across the entire media surface and is rated at 35 microns, meaning nothing larger than 35 microns should pass through the material. The bottom line is we meet or exceed the filtration performance of OEM filters, eliminating any warranty issues. Back to Top  5) What Are Microns? A micron is one thousandth of a millimeter. That's approx. .00003937 inches. 35 microns is about .00138", (just over one-thousandth of an inch). The lower limit of visibity to the human eye is about 40 microns. Pollens range from about 30 to 50 microns A white blood cell is about 25 microns Cigarette smoke is about 10 microns All I know, is I seriously studied up on it 4 years ago when someone else who studied up on it went to one and swore by it. NOW, I want one on everything! I'd put one on my Cub Cadet if they made one for it. It's well worth the money. You would be better off with a Mobile one M1 108 than a K&N IMHO I don't see where the problem is getting the filter off. You may need more tools. I can do it with just my left hand. ANyways, back onto the K&P I finally switched to one when I got caught up in a traffic jam going up hill in LA. at over 100 degrees, I thought I cooked my Amsoil that had been in there 8K miles, so I changed it out and finding a filter was a PITA and with this one no worry. Now I am hooked on them. Very high quality, even the gaskets are like triple seal and can be flipped. They thought of everything. ANyways, not a sales JOB, if you want the best, this is it IMHO. If NASCAR, Military, Aerospace, and Formula one use it, come on! Sheet, I get a woody just knowing Danika Patrick is rocking one of these bad boys!
  23. Try a K&P engineering oil filter. Be the last one you ever buy, change any time you can see what it filtered every single time, comes with its own wrench. Easy on and off, and.....it acts as an oil cooler. Google it.
  24. Once I was in my truck. It was a cab over. A biker was stopped and he had a lot of military gear jacket, sea bag all that looked like he just got out. I stopped to help repair. He insisted it was beyond hope and he needed a ride. So against DOT regulations about no passengers I said OK. Small talk and where ya want let off.... I want to go to sleep he says and proceeds to try to crawl into my sleeper behind me. I said no then no sternly he kept insisting and he pulled a knife out and the fight was on, I was fighting with one hand driving with the other and trying to get someone to help me on the CB. I got stabbed just before I got it into a truckstop . soon as I got it off the road where I could fight without driving I got him in a leg lock and squeezed the life out of him while getting other truckers over to me. Turns out that was a stolen bike and that dude was off the charts crazy. Well known by Pa police. They were at the bike up the road wondering what went on with it. Needless to say I had some spraining to do about picking him up in the first place, but the troopers gave me a ride to the hospital and back to the truck. The cab was a mess with all his stuff all over looked like a war zone. No one could believe I didn't wreck it. So in certain situations I'll stop, the rest I'll hope you have a cell phone and AMA. (Roadside assistance for bikes). On my way back from Tail of the Dragon with my Roadstar I had the tank off 8 times on the side of the road dealing with a leaky manifold. No one stopped. I didn't care. If I need something I'll stop them. On my way to Kansas same bike I figured out the manifold and had the tank off 8 more times jetting. One person stopped, they had a loose dog with them who stole my baseball cap that had all the carb parts neatly laid inside. I never found some of them. Got it running anyways. Wish he did not stop. Once I wrecked, I was bleeding badly from the face as I went down a hill face first after going over thee bars in a rain rut. We were dirt riding the sand pits. I was riding my bike slowly as my friends tried to get people to stop , no one did. I made it to a relatives house who took me to the hospital, I was in shock , then went into a coma. Word to the wise, when someone is INA coma they can still hear you say how f,ed up you look. Last trip I had with 2 friends, one rear ended me, his brakes went out he said. Then they went out again on the Tail , amongst other problems. Spent maybe three days of a five day trip watching him work on his bike. There went my vacation. Same guy called me an idiot for removing my brakes cleaning them and lubing them. Told me I should be a yami mechanic since I like to work on their junk. At that point I sewed on a Lone Wolf patch and away I went. I say if I'm going to ride with an AZZ its going to be on the rear of my bike! Lots of trips alone since. Lots of stopping to help people I carry a iron butt style tool and supply kit both SAE and metric. If I can't get you going, at least I'll be sure your OK and have someone on the way. But I don't expect anyone to stop for me. If I break down I always say go on, I'll get it and catch up. If it gets that bad I'll call AMA or get a u haul. And here is a trick I have used several times. When someone is out of gas, just find a container, normally a can or bottle from the ditch. Take off your fuel line and drain some from your tank into the bottle and transfer it to their tank. I even carry a section of fuel hose as wide as the trunk to make it easy. So, I'm all over the map on this bikers code stuff. I like to help, but I don't like to ruin someone's ride either, and if your ruining mine by three days because you didn't do preventative maintenance, my sympathy diminishes. One entire saddlebag is full of tools and supplies on my bike. Tools don't do you any good without extra clamps, plugs, Jb weld, rescue tape, thread locker, nuts bolts, screws, glue, duct tape, zip ties, air compressor, tire patch, and on and on. So with me Lone Wolf style, first be able to help yourself, and as a last resort bug someone else. If you do stop, be well prepared. Not a good idea to give a ride unless you know them. Every situation is different. Gotta use a lot of judgement. If you have a Venture flag, I'll certainly stop. But its not a cut and dry thing. Everyone should have AMA. And a way to maybe contact someone you Know to help you, like from this site. That's the best help you can get, they have knowledge, parts and know how.
  25. I just took a stock stone off my 2008. I put a exact same size metziler on, it measures one inch narrower than the Bridge stone. And a gigantic and I do mean gigantic leap in slow speed handling and handling all around. BTW the stone I took off had half the tread left. Just wasn't going to risk a tire that old on a long trip to the Smoky mountains.http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130814_104457_zpsb529263e.jpg[img]http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130815_012224_zps07e3622e.jpg
