  1. My Take is Yaaayyyyyy! Free part! Put it on file, save the money on the paint and try Yammer Dan's fix. If it works, GREAT! You just saved a pile of cash and you still have a trunk bottom in stock. Because if I fixed it, painted it and got it all perfect, the next week I would drop the bike and need a new bottom for the trunk. You know, Murphy?
  2. FlyinFool did a great job explaining the way to wire it up. Don't let it intimidate you. It's 12 Volts no one is going to get hurt. (less you run it through a coil LOL) Basically your power to the low side is telling your relay it is allowed to deliver power and the actual switch completes the circuit giving the lights power and lights come on. And that will let you pass inspection. You can also get sneaky and run a second wire from the bright side, through a hidden switch and to the same post on the relay and when that switch is on, they will also work with the bright lights and no one will know but you. You just turn off the switch for inspections. Just throwing that out there of what you COULD do.
  3. They SAID they could get the nexes tire by ordering it and it came up online for store pickup. But on my hours of searching I got from the people that 15 inch tires in general are becoming rare and that production is very spotty and limited. They kind of make a run, let stock dwindle down before making another run. Seems like it's a gigantically popular Front Dragster Tire. And seldom wore out. In calling Wal Mart I was sent to the tire Dept 5 times, and hung up on. I had to go down there. Not sure about tires there either, and I have always bought mine at SAMS but the last batch seemed unfinished, lots of crap left over from the mold on the casing. But GLAD I am going Darkside on this bike. Lets hope anyways. I'll know first 80 MPH turn.
  4. Been looking HARD at the same line of lights, what a deal and if one gets damaged, whooopeee, Cheap to fix. On the wiring, More wire = less performance. Shorter wire you will get better lighting and less resistance, less drain. Its not that hard to make them VA legal, just use the low beam hot wire as a trip for a relay and install an ON OFF Switch in line. I'm not up on 99 wire diagrams but going all the way back to the trunk and back forward is too much wire for me. I'm just trying to figure a inconspicuous Place to mount them. And still trying to see if I even need em. Since my LED side lamp install, I can see pretty well out that way.
  5. I would drain 12 Oz of oil out and put in 12 oz of sea foam in and run it about and hour and come home and drain it! Then put in some 20 40 or 20 50 MC oil, Cheap stuff, Wal Mart, see what that does. It has worked for me and I did write Seafoam and they said you can do that 3 oz per qt. So I did and it did help my situation. In the end though I installed the Burnett clutch and I shimmed it to total lock up with the washer that comes with the Ef auto clutch. But thats another story. (Only two like that on this earth - we came upon that by mistake) But seriously the Sea Foam will clean the clutch if it is slipping due to wrong oil. Good luck. PS and anyone else, this is a great way to clean your engine, I always do this when i am changing oil I only go 6 oz though, no drain, just add run a half hour and change it out.
  6. I have run the Darkside on my Roadstar for 60K miles, On my third DS tire on that. So I bought the Venture and seriously, This Metziler scares me especially when i hit gravel or Snakes in the road. Realizing all the stability the CT has given me riding the same roads. So Inside of 2 months I have completely worn out the Metziler Marathon. Bye bye! I had done some research and decided on the Nexen 165 80 15 Wal Mart and I thought oh Wal Mart thats a cash and carry thing. (All along) This is where I get edjimacated. I run into great season end weather, and I put in for a weeks vacation thinking I am going to slide by Wal Mart and pick up a tire and be on my way tonight. HUH! No one has a tire of any the four I would consider within 2000 miles of me but Tire Rack and they won't let me go pick it up 3 hours away, they want to ship it only and me pay 28 bucks to ship it. Ordered the BF Goodrich 155 80 15 from some place out in california, Online tire? 108 delivered. AFTER my vacation is over. Kinda tics me off 6 are 130 miles away and I can't get em, And I live near Akron Ohio RUBBER CITY and no one has any of the four. Spent all day and I mean ALL day calling around, Everyone asks what's it for? On my Roadstar I always said a Trailer. LOL But seems like with this size the answer is the front end of a Dragster. (And even Summit Automotive did not have any, said in Nevada, be here Nov 2nd) Pppffffffffffff! So they quote me for two, and I say I need just one, I can't get both tires of my Dragster off the ground, just the one. So all I need is one. They are like HUH? I have about maybe 1500 left pushing my Metz, not enough to go on the trip I wanted to the Ozarks. Kansas City and back and Branson, and Ozark Springs. AK I'll have to do a trip closer to home don't know if I can stand it. I've put over 6K on it in a month and a half working 70 hours a week! Maybe do some MC camping. Oh the PAIN WILL ROBINSON! Please send me klenex to wipe my tears. Seriously, it wasn't PPP, more like opportunity knocked at the wrong time. Once you put in for vacation, you can't withdraw it. So everyone learn your lesson from me. Have one sitting around near the last 25% ready to go. And I hear this size is very limited production. I just can't do another MC tire! Those things will kill you! I feel lucky to be alive running ONE out!
  7. Thought I got a deal on an 08 Venture Royal with 9K miles on it for 9K Just needed cleaned and rear brakes.
  8. ITS OFFICIAL CANCEL THE HELP REQUEST! There are BF Goodrich 155 80 15/s out there, I offered to go get em but the dealers won't let me, they want to ship it. I could have my hands on one in 3 hours. I said i would pay and then go PU they won't do it. Iron Pony Want's $300 to stick a bike tire on. No thank you, I have VIDEO of me almost losing it in gravel with a bike tire. Too used to the traction of a CT Can't bring myself to do it. Yea I HATE to put another bike tire on there and have to run that out, It's like risking your life! I tried for several hours today while driving to find something. Nothing. Turned it over to my Tire guy after texting you, I have tread on the Metz but you know how that goes, the last part of an MC tire goes 4 times as quick, So I know it won't make the trip I have in mind. All this came up spare of the moment as always. I actually had a shorter trip in mind East but Hate to have rain in my pictures.
  9. CAncel the HELP request. Vacation is trashed. More two posts below. AHhhhhhhhhhhh I need a Darkside tire TODAY put in for vacation had plans on picking up the Nexson 185 75 15 at Wal Mart what a joke none carry it and in all of Akron Ohio not one dealer did either, Any Ideas on a tire I can buy like tonight maybe salvage the vacation days I already took. ?? I refuse to go any longer on a Bike Tire, I was Darkside 6 years until I bought this bike that had a new Metz on it and it's trash in 7K miles, Barely 2 months for me. Planning on going from NE Ohio to Kansas City and Ride Ozarks zig zag both ways. HELP! So far all I see are tires like the Nexson that I doubt will be available OTC I need something like available at Sams, or a tire dealer. BF goodricH 155 75 15?
  10. After my careful consideration, I went with the Edsets and could not be happier. It has an RCA jack for the Mic, and speakers as well as a plug in for your Fav Ear Buds, and you can use them at the same time! So, one headset, you can listen tot he speakers and a passenger to the ear buds. Not to mention you can extend the wires, I put the Edset unit in the Pouch behind my back rest, have just the mic and the ear buds going up to my Half helmet. Unit plugged into the passenger outlet to diminish wire clutter! And at 80 MPH they say I sound great on the CB, you'll just have to spend a LOT of time trying to convince them that it is you and you REALLY are on a motorcycle! EDSETS even sells Just the Ear bud plugs for the Bike. EDSETS were the choice for the Record Breaking trip around the world. http://www.edsets.com/ You won't believe what they offer! All sorts of stuff and adapters and ways to hook up GPS, Phone, so on.
  11. They are all talking sense here. The weight will be boss of the bike . sell it for more than you paid and start over. You thought this yourself or you would not have asked. Listen to yourself .
  12. I'll ask the same question again when I do mine, give everyone a second chance on the answer.
  13. It could be simple, or it can be a disaster in a heartbeat. It's best to study up on their web site. Good idea to use your own Debit cards and have two in case they turn one off on you because your traveling too fast, like they did to me.
  14. So, basically she said, "Me or the bike!" And you said, I gotta go pack the bike for SC. Yea you did the right thing. Looks like it was 50 50 to me, you got half of the house, she got the inside, you got the outside. I normally don't give out relationship advice, but since no one knows me, ha, read this in regards to your new Girlfriend. A dietitian was addressing a large audience in Chicago: "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks erode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. Vegetables can be disastrous to some and none of us realize the long term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have eaten or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?" A 75 year old man in the front row stood up and said, "Wedding cake." Marriage was the most expensive way I ever got my laundry done for free. Keep it cool with the kids, never talk her down with them. Keep the bike ready to go.
  15. Take pictures and do a how to on that project I'm thinking maybe of doing that too.
  16. Remember what boat means. Break out another thousand. Before ya test ride. Study up on you tube about boat surveying. Worst things to happen is moisture beneath the laminate look especially around where joints are and where things were drilled and secured, and the boot around the out drive. That's an easy fix, but if its bad, you'll sink. Check the boat us site for lots of good boating links and info. A boat survey is always a good thing. Google boat survey checklist.
  17. You say I'm your new best friend right? OK I'm jealous now. That's sweet.
  18. But ion makes sense too, good pun. LOL
  19. I highly suggest NOT removing the reflectors. Its required by law. You can look it up. I had a best friend who removed his, and he was broadsided by a lady who claimed not to have seen him. He is on Brain medication for life! He was in hospital for a year! And when the lawsuit boiled down, he got HALF as much because they proved he altered his factory DOT required lighting and reflectors. He took a old school Electraglide and made it a High HP Sportster and wanted the shaved clean look. He had a clean shaved head for two years while they drained his brain. Yea no helmet. But seriously folks the reflectors are on there by law and for a reason. Add to em but never remove em! And my lighting program is largely because I have to go see my friend I started out on Mini bikes with when we were 7 'Not quite himself due to poor lighting and no helmet.' Just saying.
  20. Freebird, if ya need help setting that thing up, I have extensive trick your boat out experience. http://s34.photobucket.com/user/usmcxterra/library/Boat%20Pics venture is PW to see pics. If it works. And I have a lot of New and used boat equipment and knowledge on what to buy not buy.
  21. When installing a rear tire on the front Darkside used to say (And they got this from Metziler) to run them in reverse rotation when running a REAR on the FRONT. However on Darkside forum they updated it that you can run it either way and even ROTATE it for extended wear and use. So You are good to go no matter what you do and expect to get about 30K miles out of that tire where it is mounted. And yes I would rotate it every 5k miles, I am doing this last 20K miles on my Roadstar, Have yet to go Darkside on the Venture. And I have to say this Bike tire on the rear has scared the bejesus out of me 5 times so far, anyone know how many Bejesuses a person has in them?
  22. Back in the day I worked in a trim shop, I have trim shops around here but in doing some really Custom work on my Roadstar no one could help me make a custom Speaker enclosure for a HD trunk but June's Upholstery in Michigan. I measured wrong and sold the first set to an HD guy seconds after I noticed. And June sent me a second set in 3 days. This guy is freaking fantastic,!!!! If I had your problem, I would call him and send him my seats! He's 350 miles from me and they ONLY person I trust to do that kind of work. http://stores.ebay.com/JUNES-UPHOLSTERY He's on the net, e bay, and FB. He posts pics of his work on FB all the time LOTS of satisfied seat people. They guy seems to do the work because he ADORES it! Not just for the money! He's really reasonable on prices!
  23. As a truck driver having a CB as a serious work tool for over 30 years and my brother owned a CB shop, What everyone said here is right on, Your best work is done to match the SWR. If that is done, the best part of the signal is going out to the airways! (Not back into your transceiver.) So your doing the right thing to leave it be. 100 watts? Man with that much you can seriously light up a tube light bulb! I used to do it! Ventures with that Modification should have some sort of warning placard, I mean if you get too close to them is there not a chance they might melt the Snickers bars in your trunk? I would be afraid if I had a 100 Watt on there, I would key the mic and the bike would stall! I got to go to the Maint Day just to see that sheet!
  24. Is that a Typo? (Ion Mike) Thanks, I have done a lot of cool stuff, Took pictures too, LOL I will someday do a how to. I travel the country for my work, and I go into Chrome and light shops and I have only seen those High Intensity LED's in Lake Station Indiana. About $15 each and they come with a Chrome cover that you can get in either to the side mount or light straight out mount, they are so bright in total darkness they shine light 30 yds out. You can see the Chrome part I am talking about in this picture of my FRONT Side increased visibility Modification. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130822_232556_zpsb43d696c.jpg You can kind of see the amber light shining on the ground here in this lit up Wal Mart Parking lot. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130823_001730_zpseac91948.jpg Thanks for the Kuto's though I was beginning to wonder if I was in stealth mode.
  25. LOL Yea I also have the pollow top and its the first bike seat i will keep from the factory, It's good for 800 mile day so far problem free. Lots of 500 mile days. No Iron Butts yet. As for the HD dealer charging to park, I hate HD dealers anyways, so I will stop in there and when they tell me that I am going to leave just like you did after a stupid look JUST TO SCREW with them! Got plans on Taking 219 from Somerset to the Dragon / Back of the Dragon. later this week! That place is heaven to me!
