  1. Dawg I was just getting ready to buy a bunch of their stuff at the Motorcycle show. HUH, guess I'll jump in on your boycott but remember Custom Dynamics stole $75 CASH off me for returning an unopened turn signal kit they said was for a Venture (Not) and changed me shipping and restocking fees. And the license plate LED thing some LEDs went out inside two months. So Add then to YOUR list. It's all made in China. Japan I can deal with.
  2. It does not take much to make the brain swell, and thats the real danger about head injury. My worst accident I was 12, took a downhill on a dare no helmet, light spill, concussion, then right into a coma. Wore a helmet a lot after that. But not always, but always aware that if something happens, I'll wish I had a full face on! I normally wear a Carbon Fiber/ kevlar half helmet. Knowing my face will look like a horror movie if I crash. I should look into a full face Carbon Fiber. In the summer a FF is just so hot. Anyways. Like the choice, but if you crash, you will wish you had one on, and like some mention the most fatal crashes happen on surface streets close to home. STILL like the choice. My 67 year old friend had a scooter spill no helmet, same as me went into coma, and he is still recovering yet riding. Lots of meds, on a trike. None of which would have happened had he had a helmet on. OLDER guys don't fare as well in a crash.
  3. They don't scratch the surface is cool feature. Can be reused. Important for an adventure trip. Might be a place for them. I've used RV glue with great success. Never hardens. Cheap.
  4. If she was dressed like a Squid, she would be a lot worse off. Just a second of not looking where you want the bike to go. And another reason not to ride in groups. Oh well, I've watched over 12K crash videos according to You Tube.
  5. As far as Changing the oil when new, at 5 miles is better than 500 and then again at 500. There is trash in there. It Used to be in independent lab results Mobile one came a close second to Amsoil, things have seriously changed on the last Independent lab test results and a lot of oils have cheapened up the flavoring and Mobile one is not what it used to be at all. So I hate having to have it shipped to the house but you can't beat the first and true synthetic Amsoil and in the long run it's cheaper. You can however probably put the cheapest and worst preforming oil that meets the engine specs and be able to say "I haven't had any problems at all" in 8 years. But your engine will not agree. The lack of the proper amount of Zddp is going to wreck havoc on the cams. A lot of the Diesel oils lack this. But they are running it anyways. so the question is, are you keeping the bike and will you want to rely on the oil? http://www.dualies.com/downloads/files/Oil%20Test%20Results%20-%20g2156.pdf
  6. The one tx2Sturgis said could start, Like he was trying to scare the guy from working with 12V wires. And he also referred to you and your relay advice. I pretty much said tackle it. no one will get killed. (It's not like wiring a 220V fuse box for a factory) Then he steps in telling me how dangerous it can be. Just sayin, glad he did not die hooking up his fog lights. Sarcastic statements. You'd have to look where he quoted me and addressed you too.
  7. I'm glad no one went to the hospital over this, In 44 years of 12 V wiring Stereos Lights, CB's amongst a lot of other stuff I have never heard of anyone starting a fire. BTW THAT IS what a fuse is for. Once a short circuit occurs the fuse blows and stops any danger of a fire. I personally use breakers when working on something to save money. I also have two friends that own stereo installation shops. Combined more than 40 years open, they do about 15 systems a day and not one fire ever. This is just so odd. I will have to let them know what can happen.
  8. Yea that is a fine looking bike and I agree, I have an 08 and its just incredible right out of the box. I have done some Modifications but still. I can hardly ask for more. Especially for the price I paid. It had 9K miles on it, Got it up to 16.5 in little over a month and a half. Love it! And besides, you know how first runs are.
  9. Yea What he said and if it is out Time to replace that With a Bad Boy or Stebel up! Although a zillion are available from those who have upgraded.
  10. This is rare, I get to learn something new, what the heck is a trap door e mail? I doubt you would be bother with the trike. if so deal with it then.
  11. If it's someone I don't know, I ask for a credit card number right away. When they say what? I say yes, his time is valuable and I need a credit card to connect you to him. And I insist again. If it's someone I know they make it obvious. If not, they get all protesty. LOL Now if it's a We want to sell you a car warranty type call, I just say I had no idea you would cover a 1971 Ford Pinto of course I WANT it! That thing has the original tires on it! Hello? Hello?
  12. I did a how to install on the Luggage rack. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81193&highlight=install+trunk+rack Mind me asking where and how much for the radiator cover, I wish I had one. That's a lot of goodies in one bag, but I guess it IS Halloween!
  13. That's way way overkill Larry! And that's what we need, and that's what we like and that's why we buy your stuff. LOL. Many uses for that puppy!
  14. Interesting story about the long identification of this part at the parts counter, when I asked what kind of anti freeze to use, they told me and said don't buy it here, and showed me the plugs they had on hand and told me to lube them when I put them back in to keep em pliable. in about two seconds he pulled it up on the computer in an expanded view and showed me where it was and how to get to it. (My first water cooled Bike) He said, if they were too dry call us we always have spares on hand. I left, without spending a dime. He even told me about the spark plug being the tool to remove them. I guess a Parts counter is only as good as the person standing behind it.
  15. I wish but due to the GOV shut down we are slow as heck at work, means I'll be on call or working and we are about 250 miles apart, So if we left at the same time, You'd only have to go 100 miles on the Warrior to meet me. Ahhahahahaha I knew it was A Warrior, you said so in your post, but you also said you were adding and deleting touring comforts. Never saw a Warrior with touring comforts added, kinda wanted to see that picture! Still be a good move especially for two up travel! Although I did about 65K miles two up on my Midnight, it's not near the two up bike the venture is. Got your PM Ill Ring ya if I get a chance to slide that way.
  16. Back to the harley Post, another reason not to group ride.
  17. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130815_012224_zps875c8397.jpg I put the stock size on in a Metziler, when it came I thought wrong size! But in checking the numbers, no, but it's a good 1 inch narrower as seen in this picture and it handles absolutely primo compared tot the stock tire and I contribute that to it being narrower. I was so impressed, I took a picture go figure. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130814_104457_zpsb529263e.jpg
  18. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/MS1700/3ac90c8f.jpg Above is my Midnight Silverado, Great bike as we know, just not as much as a touring bike Yamaha said it was. Maybe one up. And once you turn it into a Starglide, ity bity problems creep up, The weak shock, and the Stock windshield brackets crack under the weight of a fairing. And after cracking three sets at $200 a pop. I did JUST what your thinking. Below. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture3377954_zps1f470b60.jpg I kept the Roadstar, I am turning into a Winter grocery getter. But I added a 2008 Venture and I could not possibly be more happy! Gobs of throttle, LOVE the smoothness of the 4 Cyl, The shaft, The aerodynamics of the fairing and the way it cuts through the wind, It can also go Darkside so 30K miles on one tire swap. Yes one said the stereo is a little weak, only in sound quality but trust me, wear ear plugs and it sounds better, and if you really want to turn it up a Notch you get the EDSETS Communication system and use the RCA jack and the Mini Stereo plug and use whatever ear buds you love and the music is all you could ever want with a CB that chimes in with alerts about Police and accidents and whatever. You will not regret getting a Venture. I NEARLY got a Goldwing and am super glad I did not, Not that its not a great bike too, But a Venture looks like a BIKE not a spaceship. I logged over 6K miles on my Venture in less than two months. But that's about normal for me, you may know me from the clinic, I'm MS1700 over there, the first one to go Darkside there on a Roadstar, and caused Holly He'll They all said I would crash and burn, and 60K miles later all Darkside I'm still here. Waiting on my Darkside tire for my Venture, Had to wear out the new Rear the bike came with, It was the most dangerous riding I ever did! About the seat For $1100 I upgraded the Seat on the Roadstar to the Ultimate, Full set, but for free I can ride just as far on the STOCK 2nd Gen Pillow top seats with the Utopia Backrest made right here in Ohio! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/IMG_0464_zpsc8c9c4ef.jpg And this is a pic of my Dash this Summer, One side is a Galaxy Note two in a Ram Mount and the other side is the GPS in a Mike mount. I just got a Ram mount today for the GPS, or the Go pro, whatever I use it for not decided that will be winter upgrades. Your on the right track! I live in Akron area, If I was close I'd trade ya for a ride for a while. Still possible. But I would have to wait for a day off, we only 2.5 hours apart if we meet in the middle.
  19. Some people go get Chrome door edge that has adhesive already on it and replace it with that. They sell Door trim in Black too.
  20. I think the one who bought the tire buys it again. Unless they went over a PSI you stated. Should be about 100 but they have seated as low as 45 from what I read. And that is why I choose the BFG It has better sidewalls. I polish my wheel rims before I start and use GOOP hand cleaner as a lube, plus leave the tire in the car in the sun for a while to get it good and flexible. I have only made my way through 3 tires on my own and one I mounted for a friend. all went on easy. I'm not sure if three wheels count as Darkside, I kinda think not. But way back in the day, all Motorcycles had car like tires on them. It wasn't until MC racing got started with the round tires that people thought it would be cool to have tires like that, and then everyone did it and we have paid too much ever since. Same as Cars and the spoiler thing, seen AJ Foyt had a spoiler next thing you know every car made has on on it. Adding $300 each to the price tag.
  21. I have a 2008 and the front end is smooth as silk at any speed. Going up and coming down. So like they said, maybe you need to tighten it up. Put it on a jack and test it out. Other problem could be tire wear.
  22. Yea i went with the BF Goodrich because it is suppose to have better sidewalls and more Weight capacity. Although I would certainly done the Nexen if it was there. Just hate having to order tires over the net, you don't know the DOT number your going to get, how fresh the tire is and all that. But it looks like we are stuck with that. I live close to Summit Racing, and Akron Ohio, two places you would think this size tire would be plentiful. NOT! But how do you like that tire? Whoooooooooooooooo!
  23. Yea the Marines own that town. As with most military towns the locals are probably:stirthepot: about sick of them, until they move out and they will realize that's what holds up their economy. I was there 78. 79 80 and I drank the water! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Lejeune_water_contamination (For those that were there 53 to 87 better read that and contact the VA if you have any symptoms.) Anyways, BOTH my Boys were also in Marines, BORN on Camp Lejune Mom was WM too! So when they were in during Affy, we went down there and not a whole lot changed, the best part is you are within 4 hours drive of some of the most fantastic beaches on the east coast. And it is great riding there. I could go find a spot and watch Cherry Point flights for hours. Be kind of hard to find a place there reasonable, lots of Marines living off base. Crime is on the less than normal side, dealing with LEO's is nothing compared to having to deal with the First Sgt.
  24. When I want a speed induced adrenaline rush, I just go WOT and close my eyes! Cheapest way I have found, That sounds like a LOT of WORK and gets into riding time. Good job of enlightening us on the task though, got my respect for doing all that. What a project!
  25. Ok so I went through all the posted cures for the trunk rattle, None of that was my problem. So I got in deep and found what the problem was, and a cure. http://s34.photobucket.com/user/usmcxterra/media/MVI_0601_zpsa32f533f.mp4.html Thats a video. less than a minute. I used a [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Neodymium-Magnets-inch-Bar-N48/dp/B001KV3Q0Y/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1381466722&sr=8-6&keywords=magnets]6 Neodymium Magnets 1 x 1/4 x 1/4 inch Bar N48: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41uGule8IiL.@@AMEPARAM@@41uGule8IiL[/ame] And that was it. Quick install Took it for a ride, first time ever without that rattle. So while I was at it I added a plastic washer to the circlip on the top of the support. And a magnet there too. It tightened all that up. Then I said why do I even have this PITA on here and took that whole assembly off. Now I can raise and lower my trunk lid at will. Anyways, another cure in the bank.
