The gas cap off of a 2003 vstar 1100 is the same one as the 2007 RSV. Marilyns cap came apart on our way to Potato Creek this year and fell into her tank. While playing with ideas I tried my cap on her tank and it fit just fine. (yes I did manage to fish everything out, reverse tech my cap and got hers back together)

I tried that a couple of times with my RSV....it wasnt near as graceful nor did my dismount end up so good! Thats pretty cool Lowell thanks for sharing it.

Gord, Laura and Marilyn and I are heading to The Dominican this year. They gave us a week of their time share because they figured they would not use all the weeks they have. We are going Jan. 25 but only for a week, Puerto Playta (sp). It should be fun....beach, rum drinks and food! -
Well, we sure are glad that it wasnt worse and that you are doing good considering! Riding gear rules!

I was member 100 of the original site. I remember talking with Buckeroo before he passed. He has the distincition (sadly) of being the first on our memorial board. I sure do remember Dallas! He was a good pooper scooper thrower! I've bought all my bikes through here. The first member I met was Black Owl on our way to meet Boo when we went to buy the blue 89 Boo had and sold to me to shut me up. (I was whining about not having a bike at the time!) Now I've met so many folks I cant remember them all when I see them again! Its been a great ride! One which I hope goes on for a long time yet.

Whatever you do dont ask Yammer for advice!! Oops...too late! Good wishes for a successful conclusion.

Really makes your problems seem trivial doesn't it. The wonderful message he gives to those young people whom think the world is out to get them. Amazing.

I am going to cautiously say nope they wont work. I dont think you can get that tach around the dash. Your cables would be way too short I think. Most of us go for the 1.5 inch risers from barons and sometimes that takes some wiggling with the cables to make em work. Or they swap out handle bars completely with Flanders G2 I believe it is. This will require recabling but I have heard nothing but good things about those bars. I have the risers and they work for me.

Annie Do your blister packs have his name, doctors name and the prescribed meds labelled? If so thats probably better than a bottle of pills with a label. Here at our jail we get offenders come in with meds. We dont trust the pill bottles as the meds contained may not be whats on the label. We do trust the blister packs though providing they are well marked as I described. -
It is good to "hear" your voice again Lowell. Take care of yourself and we will see you down the road.

Thanks Kent. I will try and remember these things.

lol. But, gee, remember its me trying this thing out! I had my tongue in so many differant positions that wife thought I was becoming a politician! Next spring I am due for a rear tire change and will give it a go again...no worries. I do read the tips and tried a few of them. I did use the bead breaker and all though....it was slick. I do appreciate further advice. Like just how careful does one have to be when removing the rotors?
-
I have one of those. In my mind it is a piece of junk. They had the same thing for sale here at Princess Auto but they took it off the market because of poor qualityy. So I got mine from Harbor Freight. The clamps dont work on our tires unless you take off the rotors and really isnt a convienent option in my mind. They require some modification that I am unskilled at doing. I ended up get tire irons and changing my tires that way....it sure was easy.

Were there any improvements to the Venture over the last ten years?

I found it way to "loose" for me. Even Marilyn said that when she watched me it looked like I was a little out of control and somewhat scared. I found I couldnt get around the curves in a smooth line and was jerking it if you know what I mean. Yes, I did tighten the steering head. When I said way back, that I duck walked the dragon last year....well...that was pretty close to the truth! It was awfull for me. And yes, I did dump my bike that trip as well but that was because of a number of things not linked to the levelling links. After returning to "normal" I found I could do my curves again without jerking it. Coming to a stop was not longer an adventure! Remember this is me and I am glad that those who have and like em continue to ride like the wind. It wasnt for me. Stock is good for me. I was going to try the smaller tire but after hearing some say it was a little wobbly towing a trailer I decided that I will leave things as they are. I can ride the thing fine...it just took a little practise. -

Little changes. Trunk mount fixed, I think new type antena mount. Handles poorly if you are not used to it. Once you get the feel for it there is no stopping you. But it will always be a bit of a pig in the parking lot. There are adjustments to the rear end or front end to make the handling a little better. Levelling links raise the rear a little and make a big differance. Lowering the front end does the same I think. A slightly smaller tire (narrower) will change the handling as well. I went to levelling links and didnt like it at all...went back to stock. I have heard that the smaller tire is not so great when towing a trailer...dont know. But practise practise practis and the bike is fine...for me and as you can see...many others here. Keep those cassettes though as Yamaha still thinks there is a market for that technology! But at least there is a port for you to plug in a ipod or something. Dont waste money on the cd player as it is expensive and takes up room in your trunk or saddlebag. This is a great bike though with the major tech problem being a weak rear shock. The five year warranty sure helps. -
Noddy (Gord and Laura) from Brandon copied these photos to a disk for a couple folks and asked me to download them here. http://s45.photobucket.com/home/sarges46/recentuploads
