  1. Hi, Well I'm leaving Sunday AM for my solo trip across MN, ND and Montana on Hwy 2 to Glacier NP, then down to Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons, back thru Devils Tower, the Black Hills and thru SD back to home in Wisconsin 3 weeks later. Camping most of the way except for a 4 day stop at my best friend's place in Great Falls, MT. I am way pumped for this trip.. old 83 is primed and ready to roll....:fingers-crossed-emo From what I see on the Glacier website, the Road to the sun is STILL not open all the way through... Anyone who lives in those areas got any great side trips.... I've got the time... Clay
  2. Just wanted to let you know the we made it home safe!! Put on 2011 miles (which I know is just a short run for some of you!) through the Black Hills and just want to say thanks for all the input on the different roads to take! It was beautiful!! The best part of the trip was when each one of our boys came and told us it was the "best trip they've ever had"! No cells, no tv's and no crowds. It's the perfect time of year to go out there! Hubby had a lot of lookers & questions on his new carrier he built! It worked great! Trying to catch up on the forums and just wanted to say it's been fun catching up on all the humor you clowns throw at each other!!
  3. Well taking a trip to Indian River Mi. Leaving morning of the 28th of June. I will be stopping in Birch Run at Tony's for lunch or Breakfast around 11:30-12:00 Noon. Looking to see if anyone wants to meet and greet and of course EAT. Everyone is welcome to meet or even ride up with me from Downriver area to have a eat and meet or for just a ride. I plan on leaving sharp at 9:00 AM. Joe
  4. Just checking to see if anyone was making the trip to Thunder in the valley in Johnstown Pa next weekend? Its a great time and every year it keeps getting better and bigger. Its definetly worth the trip here is a link http://www.visitjohnstownpa.com/thunderinthevalley/ also check out my pics in my gallery of some pics from last years thunder. Paul
  5. I made it home this afternoon after a 4050 mile trip from KY to Utah, an incredible journey. We met up with our wives in Grand Junciton, CO and from there we went to Moab, Monument Valley, Lake Powell at Page, AZ, Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Bryce National Park and Capital Reef National Park. The parks are incredible and much to our surprise the ride to and from the parks were equally as incredible. The bike ran well but got really poor gas mileage. I only had 5 tanks about 30 mpg. Most were about 28 mpg with a low of 22. I was towing a small trailer (Unigo) and rode 2-up while on the loop through Utah. The Gold Wings with me did much better on gas. They would always use 1/2 to 1 gallon less than me on each fill up. Here are a few photos from the trip. Dennis
  6. We will be taking a weekend trip from Fredericksburg, VA to my sister's house in Charlotte. Normally we take 360 to 58 to 29 out of VA into Greensboro and then get on 85. This is the first bike trip to her house and that's what we will probably do on the way down. There does not appear to be a good alternative for 85 between Greensboro and Charlotte. On the way back was considering Rte 49 all the way up and across Kerr Lake until I hit 360. Any info on this road, particularly in NC or any other road suggestions.
  7. OK, I must have developed a brain fart. Why am I getting a "sigpic" at the bottom of my posts, rather than my states visited map? I changed it after my trip to the smokys last week and can't seem to get it to work since.

  9. Hey everyone, Well...the trip went as planned. Left kankakee illinois on sunday morning. Had a wonderful ride down to Batesville Miss. Shortly after we stopped, a torrential storm rolled through( couldn't see across the parking lot!). By Monday morning it was clear and sunny.....sooo...off we went. Stopped by Biloxi Miss. found the Air Force Base & apartment that we lived in during avionics school(not as nice now!) then visited a friend we haven't seen in 18 years!!!left the next morning,on our way to Pensicola beach and Gulf Breeze... we met up with Glen, a member on this board who gave us valuable local info as well as general good stories of travels and experiences. A very nice guy!! Glad we got to meet up with Glen!!!Stopped for the night in clearview Florida. Next day made it to Columbia South Carolina(hot as he..) 99 deg heat index at 5:00pm!! almost melted! Thursday was the BEST ride of the trip....North Carolina,Virginia & stopping to visit more military friends in Beckley Wesy Virginia...BEAUTIFUL scenery, absolutely breath-taking!!!Stayed there all day Friday. Left Beckly West Virginia on Saturday morning, came up on the south side of Indianapolis just AFTER the storm hit. I65 & rt 31 were closed due to flooding!! Had to re-route over to I74 And catch I65 in Indy. Took us 12 hours to get home Saturday...but we made it safe & sound. Thought you'd all like to know. We had a great time ...the bike was awsome(except for my tailbone) and the wife has already started planning next year's trip!!!! Thanks again to Glenn for the "tunnel info" and the Cokes!!
  10. Last weekend, me and my best friend took a 900 mile trip to Texoma and back. Me on my RSV and him on his Valkyrie. Our wives, who weren't too keen on making the trip on the bikes took my Taurus. Anyways, we setup CBs for both his bike ( a little hand-held motorola with a headset) and the Taurus (little cheapo Cobra with a magnet mount antenna). Prior to the trip we tested both of my headsets, a J&M and a Chatterbox. On both headsets we noted that I was coming through real quiet like. Didn't think much of it till we actaully got on the road, in which case the girls could hear and understand me (barely) but he couldn't very well... Now, planning for furture rides, I am curious as to whether their is anyway I can increase the gain on the mic...don't know of one in the settings, but is there a turn pot somewhere I can tweak? As an appeasement to the CB gods, I have included 2 shots of us headed home. One runnin' down US77 and the other runnin' down TX22 about to cross over Whitney Lake Dam...
  11. We're southbound this Sat. and should be in Gulfport, MS by Sunday night - I just wanted to give an advance warning to all the members between WI and the Gulf. So if you see this rig parked at a food joint, http://www.simpsontaxidermy.com/RSVtrailer.jpg feel free to stop and buy us lunch. If you see us on the road - get out of the way! This trip south is the main reason I won't be attending the rally in Ontario this year. My daughter starts training with her battalion in late June and then leaves for Afghanistan sometime in Oct., so this will be the last chance I get to see her before she ships out for almost a year. Keep a good thought for her safe return, eh?

  13. Hi everybody... Well the new RSV has all of 900 miles on it and the wife & I are going to take it on our first "long" trip. We'll be leaving Kankakee Illinois(about 40 miles south of Chicago) Sunday morning & heading south. Plan on being in Kiln Ms. on Monday afternoon to visit a friend we have'nt seen in 18 years. Then through Biloxi & on to St. marks Fl. on Tuesday. With any luck at all on Wed. we'll be in Mt. Pleasant SC. Thursday night we'll be visiting friends in Princeton West Virginia. Friday..........Sitting in a lawn chair at a campground, fishing and drinking beer (not toooooo much though...he-he). Sat & sun will be the trip home! We are pretty excited!!!! And of course all is subject to change depending on weather & how we feel.I think we're ready. new rain gear, spf 30 chapstick, sun block, luggage(of course),made beaded seat covers out of a car seat cover from Wally-World......Any other suggestions???? Thanks to all....I'll have it on channel 29( RIGHT?) I'll fill you in on the trip after we get home!!!
  14. Hey Everyone.... Haven't posted for a while folks....vacation, work, just busy...BUT...I have to say how well the bike performed AGAIN...This past Memorial Day weekend...I know a lot here do this on a regular basis, but when the better half and I get a chance for an adventure...they are rare as I own my own business and wife does the nurse thing.... Just love the bike and just wanted to say so.....AGAIN...75 mps's on Interstate 64 through the hills of WV..Rolling hills of KY...and back again..Bike just rolled on....Wife loves it...and me at 6'5"...240...I just throttled on....could have set in the saddle most of the day except I had to stop and get gas and PEEEE!....Sorry...it is what it is...... Just wanted to post how much you guys/gals helped make up my mind last year (January) when I decided to buy the 06 RSV....It has done EXACTLY as everyone said it would... Wife also enjoyed telling her nursing friends yesterday that WE took a three day trip/ride on the Scoot and did a little over 885 miles round trip AND it was HER idea to take the bike.... NOTE: Added the K&N Filters and Chrome Covers and took to dealer for carb sync....(was getting a little backfire)..ANYWAY...backfire is gone, but I did notice a slight drop on mileage...maybe more 70-75 MPH's....will see how it goes on rides with speeds closer to 55-60... 15. Myself & 3 other biker buddies from Ontario Canada are planning a road trip (first week of June) along Route #6. Weather permitting we will be camping. I have been researching this area with the Pennsylvania Tourism Bureau. Curious to know if anyone else has experienced a bike trip along Pennsylvania's Heritage Route. We are also considering our travels through New York State with the Catskill & Adirondack mountains. Any information you could share would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  16. Below are pictures from our ruidoso trip including a barn find.....
  17. Time to take a road trip today to Moose Jaw Sk. its about an hours drive to the west of my home and a nice little oasis in the middle of the prairie. Please excuse the shots, I am not a phtographer but I thought people may want an idea of what is in Moose Jaw if they are going to make the trip. Today was a gorgeous day, especially since its in the middle the first long weekend of the summer. We are having a very late spring as its been very cool and very dry. Usually the Wakamow Valley is lush and green by this time of year. Click here to view the pics, http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/MooseJawMay18_08 Brian:cool10:
  18. We are taking a trip to South Dakota at the end of June into July and was wondering what were some of the good roads to take for some scenic rides around Mount Rushmore? We are staying about 16 miles from Mount Rushmore and will probably be riding off and on for three days in that area. Moakster

We are going to St. George on vacation for 10 days this afternoon. We are going with our friends ( he has a 06 Wing). We will be staying at their time share and should have internet. We are going to leave around 3:00 pm when they get off work and ride as far as he can then get a room and make a 2 day trip up there. If any one in the area wants to meet shoot me an email. Rod
  20. :dancefool:Yamaha Road Side assistance and told them I was taking a trip to Oberlin (Maintenance Day) and then on to Berkley Michigan then back home. They are sending me a trip layout with local dealers and maps. She said that I will receive everything before my trip. Nice benefit provided by Yamaha.
  21. I would like to improve the Tone of the exhaust more than the loudnes..... Heard the clips of the Baron 4-2-4's on the site but couldn't find how the Bub slipons sound..... Any comparisons or comments? I am looking for a low rumble which will not tire me out on a long trip. Hate that half deaf feeling with a just off the boat feel from loud pipes which screw up your ballance...?
  22. Well folks, I had hoped to give you a good report on the VMAX rear after my trip to Vogel but I can't give you a complete report yet. My gas mileage is TERRIBLE. BUT...it was TERRIBLE before installing the VMAX rear. I don't know what has happened but something has really changed over the past few months. I actually noticed it almost a year ago but just haven't really gotten around to trying to track down the problem. I was sure reminded on the trip to Ft. Collins and that was before I installed the new rear end. About the best mileage I got on the way to Colorado was 30 MPG and usually it was in the 20s. Same thing on this trip to Vogel. I was getting a max of about 25 MPG, very similar to the Colorado trip with the stock rear. So...I'm trying to find the problem and will report back on this when I can. I installed new Iridium plugs about 2 years ago but have only ridden maybe 12,000 miles since doing so. I'm pretty sure that they were still OK but I went ahead and installed new plugs today. Not Iridiums this time, just standard NGK Platinum plugs to see if it helps any. I also pulled the K&N Filters to check them. They did not look dirty at all. For now, I put the stock filters back in. About the last thing I did before my mileage went down was to install the K&N filters. I honestly don't think that had anything to do with it either but I'm just trying to go backwards with anything that I have done. I also feel that it's just not running as well as it should. Just a bit of roughness at most speeds. I ran a can of Seafoam through it before going to Colorado and another can on the way to Colorado, didn't seem to help. I checked all the coils with my new Motion Pro coil tester and they all seem to be firing properly. Raining like crazy here now but hopefully I'll get an evening to test it again before I have to leave for Minnesota on Sunday. I'll let you know just as soon as I know. As for the rear end, I love it. The bike truly does perform better, even with the engine not quiet running right. Power band is now right where it should be. Very nice. Don
  23. While looking through some old pictures when I was stationed oversea and while on a trip to Italy, I found this picture of REAL curvey road.
  24. Go out to start the bike at work yesterday. Hit the switch, turns over but doesn't start. Hit the switch again, engine turns and stops (kinda like the hot start issue sound), hit the switch again bike starts. Get on and notice that the odometer is actually on the odometer (I usually leave it on trip 1 and have left trip 2 unreset since I got the bike (to keep track of how many miles I've actually ridden it since getting it.) Both the tripometers are reset to zero. However, all of the radio stations I have set are still set as normal. It was 42 one the ride in and dipped to about 30 in the morning but was about 57 or so when I went to start it. Have no idea how old the battery is. It's a sealed, yamaha branded battery so I figure it's probably the second battery and is, roughly about 4 or 5 years old. It was low enough winter before last to not even turn the scoot over. Put it on the battery minder and it was good to go again and rode with it all last summer. Kept it on the minder every week or so this winter so no problem till yesterday. I'm thinking this is a sign that the battery is dying and the voltage dropped low enough to, have the hard start, reset the trip meters and put the odometer back showing. Any thoughts?
  25. Spring is in the air and riding season is here ( at least in South Texas ). Last week the wife and I went up to Wimberly for a day trip. Round trip we put about 500 miles on the bike. The trip up was fine but the ride back I started getting sore. Even a 2 hour stop in San Antonio for dinner on the river walk didn't offer any real relief. Wifey did't complain much because all she had to do was sit there and look pretty. Which brings us to the meat and pataos of this thread... I' considering an aftermarket seat. I had a '01 Roadstar and I put a Mustang seat on it. It greatly improved the comfort. Turned the bike from a 45 mile a day ride to a 300 mile a day ride. However, Mustang does not make a seat for my Venture. You would think that they would considering the popularity of this bike. So that limits me. I'm thinking Corbin, but I've never had one before. If any one has any experience with them please let me know.
