  1. I was over on triketalk.com and was reading a thread about how hot the HD Triglide is and how much modifications and $$ they have to put into there stock trikes to just make them bareable to ride. Wouldn't it make more sense to just buy a liquid cooled trike? Don't get me wrong, I like HD, but not if it's going to cook my butt and other things.
  2. Hi folks, I just wanted to once again thank all of you who so willing helped me in the restoration and rebuild of my 1983 Venture Royale. It is just about complete except for 2 niggling problems; the oil and brake icons on the monitor show up intermittently even though neither is at fault and E4 errors on the air control readout. And it looks like I have found the answer to both of those on the website. I will be fixing those this week. I have included a pix of the finished project of which I am quite proud. It runs well and I have enjoyed several rides. However it looks like that may be coming to an end. During this past Winter I have developed a chronic case of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). It usually starts as a dizziness and can get really bad, I wound up in the ER twice this year. Doc says older folks are more prone to get this (THAT'S ME!). So for safety's sake I”ll be putting both of my 2 wheelers up for sale (I also have a 2000 500cc Kawasaki Vulcan). Since I can't give up riding, I'm going to be looking for a used trike or frike. Three wheels will provide more stability and should give me ample time to react if I start getting dizzy. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. So if you know of anyone who might be interested in either of my bikes please let me know. And if anyone has a lead on a trike or frike also let me know. And again thanks to all you great helpers and this website, I couldn't have done it without you. Frank

    EZ-Steer

Does anyone out there know where I can get an EZ-Steer system for our 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale that I converted to a Trike? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. Think I saw a First Gen Trike today... not sure .. is this what they look like? j/k Resourceful for sure..Use what you have available I suppose..
  5. “WE’RE BACK!” As many of you know our one year trike build took three and a half years to finish. With less than 400 miles on the new trike we started our adventure June 15th, eventually spanning 10 states, 26 days. and 4,020.3 miles. The worst gas mileage was 19.83 MPG and the best 35.7 MPG, with an average MPG of 30.954 for the trip. The only problem we had with the trike part was the two new lnner CV joint boot clamps did not hold properly even though I had bought the special tool to tighten the clamps with. We had to have them changed out with worm-type hose clamps in Newcastle, Wyoming. However Charlize. the 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale half decided to lose all power going up a hill just after passing a truck. Eventually I performed enough surgery to get us into Lusk Wyoming where she threw another fit. This time I got out a piece of string that was in the lower trunk and bound the wiring harness to a handy place making a temporary fix, that would do until a better one came along. At this point she started flooding so out came one of what would be many cans Sea-Foam and Lucas oil fuel system cleaner. However, she kept flooding off and on till we left Reno for Red Bluff California. Wa La, no more flooding. The electrical problem was solved in Colorado Springs, Colorado with the installation of a new spade-type fuse block. The temperature gauge quit working in Gallup, New Mexico after crossing what seemed like 20 railroad tracks, never to work again. I learned a lot about trike idiosyncrasies, some we like some not so much. As we came through Roseburg, Oregon on the final stretch home to Springfield OR, I told Marilla that I wouldn't take a Million Bucks for the memories, but I didn't think you could pay me enough to do it again. For the record I hate, no we, hate wind! P.S. I need an E-ZSteer. Does anyone know where I can get one for an '89 Venture Royale? 7. My Sweetie and I have been thinking about a trike but neither of us had ever been on one so we were not sure if we would like one or not. Last week we finally had an opportunity to take one out for a ride. Since i had never been on a trike before I call up Bongobobny and picked his brain (don't say it). He gave me excellent guidance about riding one and his advice really helped. We tried out a 2011 Harley Tri-Glide. I started out by myself to get a feel for it. Bongobobny was right by telling me not to try to lean, just let your body react, spot on words. When I tried to lean I felt like I was fighting the turn, once I learned to relax it was easy. Took about 5 minutes to get used to it. After about 15 minutes I went back and got my Sweetie and we were off. So what was the ride like? Like any Harley when it was at idle you felt the Harley shake but once you got moving that went away. The acceleration was very smooth and very quick, getting up to 70 mph was very easy. It was easy to hold the lane position at highway speed and it was easy to relax and enjoy the ride. We did notice that below about 60 the wind buffeting on the passenger was less than the Venture but above that speed the buffeting for both of us seemed worse. The noise in the cockpit area was noticeably less than the venture at all speeds except idle. For highway driving it was a very enjoyable ride. Now for the secondary highway ride. On 45 mph and 50 mph roads we both found the ride to be very uncomfortable. The front end tracked well and went right where I wanted it to go with no problem. The rear end however was a different story. It kind of felt that the back end was swaying back and forth to the point that if I was susceptible to seasickness I might have gotten it. It wasn't a greatly pronounced sway but it was there non the less. It sort of felt like the bike was trying to track back and forth on the ridge between the tire tracks but since I did not feel it on the front end I can not be sure if that is what was causing it. Since we had never ridden a trike before we can not say it that is a characteristic of a trike or just this one. I will say that on the rough sections of road the ride was not jolting like it would have been on two wheels which made for a smoother ride. The braking was very smooth but it took me a few stops to learn to use the rear brake more than the front, opposite of a two wheeler. Also it only had to remind myself a few times to not put my foot down at a stop before it became "natural". The heel shifter required you to really lift your heel quite high to shift but I think that would be very easy to adjust to. I have 35 inch inseams and the leg room was adequate however highway pegs would still be a must for me.The heat from the engine was not totally uncomfortable but I definitely noticed enough to comment on it and remember it. So what was our conclusions? Well my hips were very tired out after the ride (about 35 minutes), I attribute that to constantly fighting the swaying sensation. My Sweetie did not like the sensation on the back either. Like any Harley the seats would need to be replaced for any riding beyond about 1/2 hour. While this would be a great for interstate riding we do not feel that it was very good for other than that. Still not convinced that a trike is not for us. Until we have the opportunity to test ride other types the jury is still out on that, but if we do decide to go with a trike this one will NOT be on our list.
  8. As Robin call's it.On our way home from a nice 130 mile ride. We were about 5 miles from home, coming up on a 4 way. We had a yellow flashing light, the cross road had a stop sign. An old gezzer about 85 to 90 years old, can barely see over the steering wheel. He came to a complete stop.He is on our right, both of us are looking right at him.He never looked to his right or left, just straight ahead. He sits there at least 2-3 seconds. I'm thinking because he's not moving he must have seen us. NOPE,he pulls out, heads staight across our path. All I can say is thank god for the trike kit.I locked them up good. All you can hear is screeching tires and the smell of rubber. with all that noise he still doesn't look our way.Maybe a good thing he didn't,he may have panicked and hit his brakes.we would have T boned him for sure. The trike kit kept us up. I'm sure we would have gone down without it. All in all it was a very nice ride.
  9. Yep,rear shock is history. So here I sit waiting to drop $12000.00 our new to us trike, which will be delivered Wednesday, and what do I see when I went into the garage to remove the Voyager trike kit for the last time from the Silver beast. You got it, oil on the floor. I planed on riding it to work tomarrow. Now on top of paying for the new trike, I have to come up with $500.00 plus for a shock! Anyone out there have a good used shock cheap, that will keep me going for a while?
  10. Found this while looking for info. wondered if this would be of benefit for those who run a trike or are triking their bike? http://www.emltrike.com/img/uploads/foto/ExtensoDive.jpg Oops, here's the whole page: http://www.emltrike.com/en/SIDECAR/2/MADE%20BY%20EML/109/2#ExtensoDive
  11. I'm looking for any history on this trike.would anyone here know who may have owned this trike. I believe it originally came from Texas. It is now in Oklahoma. The guy that owns it now has had it for only about 14 months. It's a 99 with a motortrike kit.
  12. Have just installed a Triwing trike kit and would like to find a "Leading Legs" kit. After just getting the bike back together, I don't really want to pull the front end apart to have the trees modified. Any ideas?
  13. We made it home today after a great week in Lake George NY. Burned a few tanks of gas riding the back roads in the area. It was really hot for most of the week and rained all day Saturday. We tried out a Victory Cross Country and a Honda GL 1800 trike and just missed getting to ride a Can-Am Spider. Saw lots of RSV's in and around the area while we were there.
  14. We were in Gettysburg Pa for the weekend. On sunday evening the wife and i seen a purple and white Venture trike twice on Stienwher ave in Gettysburg. I wonder if it was any one from this site? Chris
  15. Dose anyone use a steering damper on their trike? The steering on the trike I'm building seems loose(easy to turn) thinking it may give me a wobble at speed or in turns. Have not road tested yet, working on fairings & paint Thinking I may need a damper.Looking for ideas. Thanks (work in progress) :canada:
  16. Anyone have any experience with or know someone who has this? http://www.triggtrikekits.com/yamaha_trikes.php
  17. The Free Press, Mankato, MN May 11, 2011 (Name removed) was killed in three-wheeler crash in New Prague NEW PRAGUE — A North Mankato woman was killed Tuesday when she was thrown from a three-wheeled motorcycle on a roundabout near New Prague. (name removed), 62, was a passenger on the vehicle being driven by her husband. The State Patrol said the vehicle, a Harley-Davidson trike, hit a raised-curb median with its left rear and front wheels. The crash occurred at 12:38 p.m. Bonita Domeier was thrown from the vehicle and struck a street sign. John Domeier was found pinned beneath the trike in the center of the roundabout. He suffered non-critical injuries, the patrol said.
  18. If this is true, I was told by a Calif sidecar person that this is the last year for the Venture. I was asking about a trike kit for my 2007 Venture.
  19. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li6KVbyJPtI]YouTube - new type motorcycle trike[/ame]
  20. Here's the cockpit of the trike....where the heck will the GPS go?? The air adjust for the trike is the square black "thing" on the left--and it's hogging all the room http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae282/AussieAnnie888/2011%20HD%20trike/IMGP0923.jpg
  21. Thank goodness their injuries at this point do not appear to be life threatening. Details are sparse, but Buck and Nikki flipped their GW trike, yesterday. From what the daughter told me she was driving and went into a curve, somewhere around Hattiesburg, MS, too fast. The trike got up on two wheels and I guess it was "downhill" from there! Both have multiple broken ribs, bumps and bruises. He is not as serious as she, but both are in intensive care at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. They both told the daughter they would be back on the bike, although, because of some of the road rash, Nikki told the daughter, "never again without a full face helmet!" They were both wearing 3/4. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers!!!
  22. Getting there....this was Tuesday http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae282/AussieAnnie888/2011%20HD%20trike/TrikeBuild002.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae282/AussieAnnie888/2011%20HD%20trike/Trikebuild001.jpg All is go! We fly out on the red-eye Friday night to Sydney, then after picking up the trike, ride up to Brisbane to deliver it for shipping
  23. We put an assortment of build pictures of the bike to trike project in a photobucket album. They can be seen at http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/ I'll also put a few of the basic pictures in our gallery in here. When I have the time and figure out how to do it. lol
  24. *announcement......If you go to page two of "delay in getting trike" thread- you will see that the "why" thread is now "WOOD" and all variations on that theme.........end of announcement:crackup:
  25. Was ready to fly to the east coast Friday night, for Saturday pick up of my trike..not ready Apparently it was held up in customs, due to the timber used to make the crate luckily I had allowed a week in case of hiccups.
