1. Can't remember if I posted this here already but if I did I apologize for the repeat. First weekend of September the weather was right and I was feeling pretty good since my quadruple bypass so I decided to take my first multi day ride with the new Wing. Road up to Montgomery and spent the night. Next morning I headed south on Hwy 26, a really nice road that I had driven back in the Spring with the bus. Got down to a town called Union Springs and as I was going through the main intersection of this small town a lady ran the red light and broad-sided me on the right. Luckily she wasn't going very fast; unfortunately she was going fast enough to break both my tibia and fiblia and dislocate my ankle. Needless to say my beautiful new Wing was torn up. I was taken to Montgomery for surgery, and long story short, I have been in a cast since. Doc says two more weeks, then we'll see. Me being a diabetic he's being very cautious with me. After a long talk with the insurance company I convinced them to total the Wing. Repair estimate was $14,000. I have received my money for the bike but purchasing another is NOT in my immediate future. After two accidents in less than a year, even though neither was my fault I am calling it quits as far as riding is concerned. I've lost two beautiful machines and my body hasn't healed/been corrected completely from the first accident. This problem really scares me and I am praying that all will heal properly. I have already replaced the bike....with a 2004 Chevy SSR. It only has a little over 15k and is absolutely immaculate. It's a convertible, which I wanted, and also a hardtop. Unfortunately I cannot drive yet and it's killing me to see it sitting in the garage. But hopefully, only 2 more weeks. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to all here, especially those fine people that I have had the privelege to meet through this site. I haven't been able to attend the ride-ins and meets that I wanted to but am hoping that I can in the future. Although I am not riding now I hope you all will allow me to stay around the site. If not I understand. I still love motorcycling and would give almost anything to get on another. But I need time to heal from ALL the stuff I've had in the past year. So to all I say please ride safe. And watch out for Dodge SUVs. !!!!!!!!
2. Anyone planning on going to BBB in Fayetteville, 24-27 Sep? http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/ We're riding down from Suamico (Green Bay) for a much more important reason than the rally, arriving in Lowell (just up the road) on Sun the 21st. We'll be in town until the 27th, and then riding back home. Since we're going to be in town for that MUCH MORE IMPORTANT reason and there with the RSV, might as well stop by the rally . Anyone interest in a M&E say Wed, Thurs, or Fri? In case you see more than one Black Cherry RSV with pinstriping and lots of chrome, and a WISCONSIN plate that week in the BBB area, the better looking one is mine! Curt
3. Check this bike out, good for going on a spin around the town!!!!!
4. I guess what is remaining of Ike blew through NE Ohio last night. We had winds exceeding 50 MPH and lots of trees down in the area. Our power went off around 7:00 PM and is still off now. I drove into town to get a WIFI connection and check my email. Hopefully things will be on again soon. No real damage at our house...well...except that Eileen's gazebo is pretty much trashed.
5. today as i took the wife into Walker to see the doctor, I spyed a beautiful all blue venture.. Looked like an 09 ? or so.. I left him a card... then as we were leaving town, i seen a verry nice first gen.. ileft him a card.. i couldn't find either of them.. :smile11:
6. Took off for Houston on Friday. Spent a wonderful time on I-10 waiting for a semi to clear a bridge. Seems he was a bit too wide for the rails!! They had to jack the load up over the rails. Got to town and had a visit with TxVenture (Don H.) Went to Gunboats and had home-cooked beans and cornbread. Dang was that 17 bean good! Left the next morning for Rusk to meet with Masterguns and Mavrik. Beautiful ride up, started at 69 degrees and went to about 80 by noon. From Rusk the 4 of us took off for Lake O' the Pines. Great ride up. Did have a bit of fun with the dreaded death wobble!!I was in the lead and went around a semi at slightly (Ahem- about 110mph) above posted speeds. As I cut back in ol' Mocha proceeded to tank slap. Bars moving about 6-8 inches and the whole bike dancing like a drunken hip-hopper. Gunboat said he just backed off and started flashing his brakes to give me room if I went down. What a buddy! I got her back straight and we went on. At the next stop sign I pulled the entire seat cover out of my cheeks and put it back on. I then worked the bike through a couple more runs and speed changes at the same gears and speeds. No problems. Guess I will check the front end again. Gunboat can tell you about the bird's-eye view. We got to L.O.P. and loved the area. Hated the accomodations. Sparse and no places to eat. Actually checked in the had supper and cancelled the rooms. Did have a good catfish dinner in a 10 seat cafe. Left for Athens to arrive about 9pm. Masterguns cut off at I-20 and headed for home. We had a good sleep and checked the area. Mavrik served as our tour guide. Perfect place for the Stampede. Even a Yamaha dealer in town. (Go get-em Mavrik). Headed for Houston at noon on Sunday. Lost the R.H. saddle bag lid on the bottom of town. Found it battle scarred in the center median (thanks Don). I split at I-45 and SR 79. Got home at 6pm last night. Miles - Me 1200 total Gunboat and I on Sat. - 500 A special thanks to my riding buddies. Don C. (Gunboat), Herb (Masterguns), and Mike (Mavrik). It was a pleasure to have ya'll on board. I couldn't have done it without you. The bark of 2 sets of Bub's and the hum of 2 1st Gens. can't be beat. By the way Herb, beautiful maroon 1st Gen. And, I do have a spare lid in the garage. So, bike back to original by 7pm. on Sunday. JB
7. Saw this one on july 19th at our local annual charity ride called Rock and Roar: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u257/Dexx-gs/motorcycle%20stuff/DSCF1393.jpg And saw two Mk 2's in blue the weekend of the Poag's Hole hillclimb, (didn't get pics of those i was riding the other way) one was on it's way into the hillclimb and the other I saw leaving the Wegman's parking lot in Geneseo as i passed through town.
8. Was it any of you hooligans in our little town of Northwood Iowa Friday night? Spotted a blue 2nd gen Venture in front of the micro brewery we have in town. We were in a hurry to get to Cedar Rapids to my sister's wedding so we didn't have time to stop. We've never seen it before and a lot of people stop at the brewery on their way out to Diamond Jo casino on I-35.
9. Nothing on Ebay for an 84. I need to tune up the baron a little. There's a new scoot in town fast to.

running hot?

I am new Here, I just purchased a 83 venture royale 1200cc yesterday. It's my first bike in 22 years. Anyway it did great on the highway but when I slowed down to come into town my temp gauge went in to the red, when I got home I could hear the fan running. I checked coolant it seems fine. Is this normal?

A new way to get around

Isn't this a neat way to get around town? No more traffic jams! http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/BluesLover55/?action=view&current=FlyingMotorcycle.flv Cheers,
12. Ok folks, just got home from having my first chemo treatment. Feeling fine at the moment just don't know what the future holds other than planning on going back to work until someone tells me different. Maineac, sure wish I could get together with you while you are in town, but don't think I can right now. Just wanted to let y'all know I'm still kicking. Don H.

hey don't suppose anyone know what size wrench I need to get clutch basket off. Have all the plates out and was just wondering before I went to town and had to buy a bunch of different ones. thanks.
14. Were any of you at the Red River Rally? And if so what was the name of the photographer? We were riding out of town and saw his van but did not catch the website address. Thanks SS

Bubs on the bike now

Got the Bubs mounted today, and also did the AIS plug. Runs good, no discernable lean spots in the fuel delivery. I have made no jetting or air intake changes at all. Mounting was fairly easy, and they sound pretty good. I had made some mods to the stock pipes, so there is not a huge difference in noise around town, at moderate speeds, but the Bubs do 'bark' a bit more on advancing throttle. They seem to radiate more sound to the sides, and have a slightly deeper 'runmbly' tone when idling. All in all, not too loud, just about right. Worth the bucks. I guess in a year, I'll give a report on those endcaps.
17. Mike, if you're out there, I got your check for the battery cables. Unfortunately, I don't see where you want the all black or the color coded and I'd rather not send you the wrong ones. Let me know which you prefer, and I'll get them right out to you. Sorry for the delay, been out of town for a while. Thanks! Paul
18. Read all about it in the KW Record: http://news.therecord.com/News/CanadaWorld/article/288506 Oh ja, the important part is at the end
19. and beating some sense into him??? yesterday , at noon, i was coming home for lunch. driving 55, the posted speed limit. on my left side, a young man in an old ford explorer, blew by me, followed by a young man on a BIG crotch rocket! the explorer pulled over into my lane, and the idiot on the bike jerked it up on one wheel, at about 65-70 miles an hour and rode it that way, for a 1/2 mile or better, accelerating all the time! i thought to myself! what an idiot! on the way into town, about 2 hours later, i saw the SAME blue and white crotch rocket, in pieces, in the back of a pick-up truck, going back into town! the bike had no seat, no handlebars, no windshield no exhaust pipes.pretty well torn up. i don't know about the rider, but i have to assume he ain't in the best of health, today! please be safe, when you ride, and please , if you get a chance, PREACH safety to these young broncs! just jt
20. hi all, new to this site, presently ride an 02 suzuki volusia which i absolutely love but an looking at a nwe 07 venture blue/black and their price is 13,900.00 I think that's a good deal in that that is quite a drop from 17,300.00. Anyway have sat on one with wife on it and we both fell in love with it, I would like your thoughts on the weight balance in town riding and relibility of the bike it. also being it is a 1300cc how is the power in low gears as well as on the highway passing high gears. thanks and you all have a great website. brian d.
21. Floresville's not a very big town. We do have two signal lights and you can blink and not miss it... just don't blink very many times. I stopped by the store to pick up a few things and there it was... a 1st gen parked right up front! I looked around and didn't see any one who looked like a rider so I went inside. Fairly good sized store... didn't see a suspect. Bought what I needed and went out... no more bike. I headed for the nearest gas... and there it was! I talked to him a bit. He didn't know about this site (but he does now). Said he lived here in town, but sent most of his time on the road. Made me think of Wild Hair! It's an '83 1200. Robert said that riding 5k a month is not unusual. Just got back from Florida. Says the scooter has about 290,000 miles on it.
22. My wife may be transfered to Dover Air Force Base in a few months. She's not sure if this will happen but in case it does maybe those who live around there can tell me what town/towns to look for a house in. We prefer to live in a small town but not more then say 30 miles from the base. I plan on doing some looking online first to get some idea of what we are in for. How are the property values doing in this location. We don't have any heart ach over this move since we are not really happy in Del Rio, it's a real nice little town but you have to travel 150 miles to do any real shopping or to get to a hospital with the ability to take care of more then a sliver.
23. Bought a saddle bag on E-Bay to repair my bike from http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gifmkramfl. The guy was great to deal with. We had a small descrepancy reguarding the condition of the bag. I thought it needed to be painted. I sent him an e-mail requesting he call me. 2 days later (he was out of town) he called me and we settled immediately it to my satisfaction. I would go to this fellow again and recommend him to others on our site. Below is what I got (you should have seen how well he packed it). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140171117319&rd=1
24. Well as much as I love my RSV, I've been wanting a lighter, smaller bike as a "town bike" I've been looking at all kinds of things, small cruiser, KLR dual sports, anything kind of different. I finally found it! I'm picking up a 2005 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 that is FULLY decked out. Can be a serious long distance ride, or remove the bags and stuff and she is a great town bike. Here is a link to the original owners page on her. http://jasonjonas.com/motorcycling/bikes/dl1kk5.jsp I'm getting her this Saturday at Pere Marquette park in Illinois at an MTF meet and eat. If anyone wants to join in the fun, come on down!
25. I have this thing about Crusin through town, playin tunes. when i'm on the Highway i usually just listen to whatever i happen to have on the stero. But when i hit town i have this 30 minute tape of Duane Eddy's Rebel Rouser that i play, while riding through town. I crank it up so all the cagers and passer byes can hear. just my way of sayin i'm here, have a great day. Bob:322:
