  1. On the Delph Dark Side Forum some people are reporting "exploding tires"... Anyone have any problems mounting their CT? How much pressure did it take to pop the bead? I told my Buddy not to use more than 80 lbs... It seems most of the explodes have happened over 100 lbs although 1 user claims his happened at less than 100... There is some that are saying it only happens to the Japanese Tires... But I think that's some people's opinion.. Be careful mounting these tires as an explosion will ruin your wheel and rotor not to mention what it could do to a person too close... Noone is reporting any personal injuries as of yet. http://forums.delphiforums.com/DarkSiding/messages?msg=295.1
  2. Just replaced my tires yesterday. The front was, I believe, the original brick & the rear was a 404 replacement & it was worn to the "nubbs". I bought my RSV used with 5800 miles on it. I now have 12000 miles on it. There was a tube in the rear tire. The shop that replaced my tires were out of the valve stem that fits the RSV so back in went the tube. It seems to ride & handle much better than before. Probably because of the new tire up front. Question is, is a tube in the tire okay or what? Thanks, DNB
  3. Do you think it would be worth going from a Goldwing to a Venture? I like liquid cooled, do not like carburators, and prefer wider tires on a touring bike. Have you guys had any recurring problems with the Venture? Your suggestion and opinion are appreciated
  4. Not aliens, not the in-laws,........my new Avon Venom:thumbsup: tires, will be taking it in for its regular checkup and have the tires installed, cant wait to get it back and feel the difference in handling...........
  5. Based upon all of your positive commentary about SW Moto Tire, I purchased two tires on-line. I have not had the same positive experience that you've all raved about. This will be my last purchase from them and I hope that some day my tires arrive.
  6. Back a couple months ago I had a new tires put on. So I purchased some ride on and added it to the tires. This evening I went out to take a ride and the rear tire was flat. Checked and found a small nail in it. So pumped up the tire and pulled the nail out but it did not seal itself. According to Ride On's web site. It's suppose to seal up to 1/4" diameter. The nail is very close to the 1/4". The rear tires on the Roadliner are not cheap! But you can't ride without one!!!!
  7. Searching for a rear tire to replace the rear tire on Royal Star. Probably go back with the same Metzler sz style etc as was on there. Called local dealer to see what they would charge and they were $20-30 higher than what I was finding them online. But in his best sales pitch the parts guy says, "the ones you get for that price online are blemished or seconds". So I thought I have bought alot of tires from dealers online and have never had any problems with them. But now the seeds are sown and it makes me wonder. I thought if a tire was a blem or second it had to be noted and marked that way. Any one ever had a problem ordering a tire online? SS
  8. Sorry, I know we have posted a lot about the Avon Venom X tires, but most of the posts seem to be from RSV and later model RSTD (after 2001). I'm looking for someone who has run the Avon rear 150/90 15 which seems to be slightly wider than the Dunlop. Are there any Tour Classic owners (98/99) who have used the Venom and who can tell me if there is a problem because they are wider? I want to order a pair of Venoms (front- 150/80 16, rear- 150/90 15) because I like the fatter front tire. Really appreciate the group and great bunch of riders. Thanks very much in advance for your help.
  9. I've read several posts here about the Metzler tires self destructing and have wondered why. The reasons have varied from "no quality control" to "their just junk tires." I'm not a Metz fan--I run Avons--but I'm wondering if a thing I saw recently on ABC News could shed some light on the subject. It was an investigative report by John(?) Ross and dealt with the manufacturing dates on tires; some companies are selling tires that were produced as long as 10 or 12 years before they are bought off the shelf as "new." One of the consequences, according to the report, is "tires dried out on the inside" causing separation of tread at low mileages. They used anecdotal evidence for the most part--similar to the Bridgstone problem a few years back--but there was one shot of a tire in a cage that destructed while spinning. No guarantee that it was properly inflated or anything else though--just their implication that is was. By the way, they were going by the manufactured-date code on the tires. For instance, the code 199 translated to the 19th week of 1999 for manufacture. 1902 would be the 19th week of 2002. Mr. Tartan, can you verify any of this as feasible/plausible/probable? I gather you're in the business and I'm not sure I trust ABC News. (Can anyone else verify it?) Thanks for any input on this. Again, I'm just trying to get at the truth through objective evidence.
  10. Makes and sizes please and where to find them
  11. yesterday. I have a Suzuki Boulevard cruiser, so the Venture is taking a little get use to, as to be expected. I have seen a few posts on here about Avon tires, do tires really make that big a difference in handling? Slow speed manuvering? By the way, love the bike. Can't wait to get home and wash it. The dealer did a lousy job cleaning it yesterday. Also, is there anything I should watch out for or be aware of related to the Venture?
  12. A friend just sent me this link via Email, and even though it relates to car tires I tought it might be of interest, and apply to motorcycle tires as well. Especially since the cord-cap seperations that have been experienced by a few on this board. It might be something to be aware of the next time we purchase new tires. http://abcnews.go.com:80/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897
  13. Reading up on tires over the last 2 months and still seeing D404 discussions, I just have to find out. I had 13,380 miles on my original D404s. Measuring the tread, I could have easily gotten upwards of 15,000 miles. I got new tires, mostly because, I was starting to feel a little shimmy in 60mph turns. I attribute that to a little bit of "wave" type wear on the edgees of the tread. I don't jump off the line. I keep about 40psi in the rear shock, keep the tires inflated within 2 psi of sidewall (but not over), and about 60% of the miles were 1 up. So I am just wondering, did I get more than average life out of my D404s? What are the riding habits of those that get less than 10,000 miles out of their tire?
  14. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I recently had to replace my tires and if not for the quick and efficient service of Southwest Moto Tires (http://www.swmototires.com/) I’d have had to miss a long anticipated ride. I went with the Dunlop 404 WWW and am so far very pleased with the ride and must say that www’s look great with Black Cherry. When I placed the order I had trouble entering the credit card information for my order however I sent them an email, they replied within 45 minutes, my order was processed the same day and I received the tires a few days later. I picked them up and had them installed in the States and was able to make my ride the next day. Over all, I purchased and installed the tires for half the price it would cost me to do it here. In fact the two tires cost me $207 US where Canadian dealers are asking $229. just for the rear tire. The best part is that while the tires were being mounted I had lunch with one of our members and got a great ride out of the deal!
  15. I have noticed that when I check my tire pressure on the RSV, Brickstones, that it is different by two-five pounds by time of day. My bike sits under my covered carport, on concrete, and if I check it when it is cool outside (morning) it is dead on ( 36 front-41 rear) If I check it in the mid day or afternoon when the temp is higher then it will rise by anywhere from two to five pounds depending on how hot it is outside. So my question is this, is it ok to regulate the pressure by the "expanded" (afternoon) tire pressure/temp or try to always take the pressure in the am when the tires are cold? On a side note the Brickstones are going bye bye. my new AVON's are getting put on tomorrow. Thanks to a $400.00 screw I will have a new set of tires at 5000 miles.
  16. I am looking for the best price on the venom wide white wall tires for both ends. where did you find yours, Who has the best price?
  17. I have been reading about tires for weeks on the site decided to go with mt90 on front and standard on rear running 40lbs handleing great shimmey at 35 mph gone cannot thank all of enough for this forum:301:2008rsv should have said avon vemons they work graet took off bridgestones
  18. Hello Riders, I read about Avon Vemon tires on this site and when my original reat tire needed to be replaced after my trip to NY from AZ pulling my Time Out Camper, I bought a set and had them installed on my 07 RSV. I bought them from Bike Bandit and paid about $240.00 Delivered to my door in three days. The service and the assistance from their telephone sales department was excellent. The real news is the way the tires make the bike respond. The "top heavy" feeling at low speed is non-existent and at speed the tires handle more like a sport bike. There is no road noise whatsoever from this set of tires. I have just about got 100 miles on them for the break-in but the difference is absolutely nite and day over the Dunlops that were original equipment. I don't know about wear of course, but if it is not a good as the Dunlops (I got about 16,000 miles), I will take the lesser miles as opposed to the handling. I am sure that there are other tires out there, but your reccommendation on the Venoms sure have made my day. Thanks to Venture.org for the great information and making my Venture even better to ride than it was before! Jay Jay

  20. Hi guys, just a note to say thanks to thems that what helped out with the multitude of questions about the 06 Midnight Venture I picked up. While convalescing from surgery last week, my buddies serviced the bike for me, oil change, spark plugs, new tires (E3's), fixed up some gnashed wiring, and installing an ear splitting air horn under the bat wing fairing, etc.. A week after surgery I took the beast out for a casual careful ride (new tires need to be scuffed) and to make sure I could handle it.. I mean I feel strong but ya know how it is.. Holy wow.. nice. Those tires severely wakened the bike up as she really wants to lean for it's size and now, it really doesn't feel top heavy as it did on the previous tires (rear E3 was barely legal worn and the front E2 was scalloped), this made for a huge handling difference. But now wow.. tomorrow is a full day of riding, get the scuff on the tires and burn some gas =) Only ran into one glitch though, the hazard lights stopped working.. signals are OK but no 4 way flashers.. Will post that one in another thread.. But ooooh nice.. My poor broken customized VStar is going to have to wait to get repaired now awww..
  21. I am going to need a new rear tire long before I need a front - probably about the time I get back from the Canada Rally. I normally order my tires from SW Moto Tires and get the free shipping when I buy a pair. But I only need one now, so . . . Anyone in North Texas need one or more new tires? I'd like to combine an order and get free shipping on my one. I'm not in a super hurry, but I'll order as soon as I find someone to share with. Thanx! Goose
  22. I just finished putting new dunlop E3 tires on the bike. first time i've ever had to buy tires for a bike, boy was i surprised to see the price tags. decided to save money and take the wheels off myself and learned something. the bike doesn't like to stay on the center stand with both tires off. guess i shoulded done a little more research before pulling them both off. things were kinda hairy a couple of times in the process but were looking good now. i just need to put the saddlebags back on and take a little trip to breakin the new tires. now if the rain finnaly stops for a bit in mn i'll be happy to start stacking the miles on again
  23. Any one heard or is using this technology? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GScWPb8qcng&NR=1]YouTube - Crazy motorcycle tires[/ame] Looks pretty good stuff.
  24. Well today I managed to put my wheels back on the bike after getting new rubber last weekend. Due to the position of the bike on the lift I could not replace my rear shock links with the shorter leveling links. So I have to do that another day. Putting the wheels back on wasn't too hard (remember this is my first time doing this work). Black Owl stopped over and I recruited him as my second pair of hands to help out a bit. I also bought stock slip-ons so I can replace my BUB's. Wouldn't you know it I need muffler gaskets. The BUBs didn't use gaskets. The stock Yamaha's do. No one in town is open the rest of th weekend. Drats. I was hoping to get it done and put back together today. Wanna bet no shop in town will have these in stock and I will have to order them in on a slow boat from Japan. I WANNA RIDE!!
  25. I only have 5000 miles on my 07 RSV, I have read so many threads about the Bridgestone tires, none being good !!! I have these tires on my bike right now and they seem to be doing fine, but I have nothing to compare them to. My question is... What to expect from new/different brand tires ??? Is the dissatisfaction with Bridgestone, the mileage ? Poor handling ? What ??? And will I notice a big change in the handling of the bike ??? I think it rides and handles good now.... If it get any better, then WOW !!!!!
