1. LA = Louisianna SNOW. I am at work south of Lafayette LA and there was an inch of snow on the steps at 0500 this morining. Folks down here do not know how to act. They are closing I49 and the radio is reporting 18 wheelers in the ditch and cars spining off the road. Schools are closing... What a mess. The sun better come out pretty quick or somebody is gonna get hurt. They would totally shut down the world if they got a real snow that would stick on the roads for a while.
2. Just got back from a six day trip to Mexico with a friend. For all my fellow Canuks, that white stuff on the ground is sand, not snow...LOL
3. I'm looking for a owners manual for a Toro S200 snowblower...I got two dropped off at the house and neither one runs...I thought I would ask here first as I know we have a few members that live in snow country.....Thanks
4. Ok I don't know who's responsible but whoever it is needs to go apologize to mother nature. We got SNOW today. Yes I said SNOW the stuff we don't get. I live in NC along the Albemarle sound. We never get snow in Nov, heck we're lucky if we get any in Dec. Thankfully it's melting but it came none the less and I wasn't happy. My poor miniature rose I left outside with all its blooms on it, hope it'll be ok. I usually bring it in if it's still got flowers on it. I'm done I've had it winter needs to end. I moved south so I didn't have to deal with this stuff. Ok I'm done ranting. Margaret
5. Winter is soon upon us up here in Canada (ha, for some people it's already been here!) My greatest biking dream was to be able to ride my bike in FEB down south, say down to the Florida Keys for example but unfortunately we have too much snow and shyte roads to get out of here.. But now that I have a bike trailer, everything has changed!! woot My plan / goal this coming winter is to load the bike on the trailer, drive south into the USA until I reach the end of the snow line, and park the vehicle, get on the bike and come back 2 weeks later and come home with a lot of biking and a sunburn.. drool... While all this is just a dream right now, I'm sorta hunting for some info hopefully you yanks can help out with.. (A) in mid Feb, how far south would I need to go to be able to get on the bike and be 100% I won't get into snow / freezing rain trouble at the start of the trip.. 2 weeks later, say 1 March, get back.. (B) Though I will be able to tow my bike behind the vehicle on the trailer, I still need to protect it from the road salts (tons of it up here).. Is there a decent and proper bike wrap thing that can be used to protect the bike the bike yet not flap itself stupid and kill the bike? And the fun thing is that this bike trailer can be quickly converted to a trailer to be pulled behind the bike nice.
6. I was in a foot of snow on Snowshoe Mtn today 4800 ft. Coming across Rt 15 on Pt Mtn 4000 ft the snow was 8 inches with leaves in full color on the trees. Those golden, red, and yellow leaves look neat on top of snow. Oh yea the deer were moving everywhere. No scooters to be seen. New tires on the 4 wheel drive work great. :snow2:
7. Do you have a riding season? I will probably have the scoots winterized by Dec 1. Sometimes it's Nov 1. Not so much the cold as those fall rains bringing the creek up. April usually brings enough warmth to get things moving again. The Weather channel is calling for a unusually cold and snowy winter for the east. You guys in New York get any snow last night? Our forecast is calling for snow showers next week. It could be a long winter nothing to do but bash on those second gen's.
8. looking out the window, watching the rain..on vacation..wanting to get any riding in i can and oh cr!$p..its snowing..c'mon now its mid october...give me a break.i know this is wny, but snow....darn.....hey i almost forgot this is buffalo..dont like the weather, just wait a minute....
9. yeap, Winter has arrived. Maybe not for some of you yet, or perhaps never for others, all depends on where you live I guess, however, it has arrived for me. I was on the way to Renton WA with my big rig , driving thru Billings Montana ,when I got the supprise visit of a foot of snow. I don't scare easily but I knew this was nothing to fool around with. Blowing snow (30 mile an hr winds), made it very hard to see anything. I'm happy to report that I made my destination. Just not looking forward to my return trip to Minneapolis, which brings me right back through that mess. Well, to all of you, STAY WARM, BUNDLE UP, WINTER IS HERE!!!

Tony Snow

:Sad_0241:Lamenting the death of Tony Snow today. Tony was not only a nationally known TV and radio commentator and former WH press secretary; not only was he a family man, well liked and respected by anyone and everyone. He was only 53. He was also one helluva musician! He could play a terrific alto sax, flute, and guitar. I saw him and heard him play with an 80's band in recent years. He was gracious enough to let my wife take a picture of me and him during a band break. He'll be missed. I know the band, "Beats Workin", will miss him.
13. Just to post some pics of bikes and snow.... ooh and by the way I had to go to the USA to find the snow. We have not seen that much snow here for about 10 years.... Me on my 86 Venture and my brother on his 06 BMW 1200GS..... The back ground is the Olympic Peninsula in beatiful Washington State. What a fantastic place to ride... clean and simply just awsome views and I love the road surfacing..... Ride safe and have fun all
14. I just returned from a trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National parks. I wasnt on my VR but have a minivan as I had 4 other people along with me. I did go over Beartooth Pass on June 16th as they had opened it just a day and half earlier. The road was in ok shape but they had some very tall snow drifts they had blow the road open thru. I would guess some to be about 20 ft tall. There was some ice in these areas as the snow would melt then refreeze in the shade of the snow. They are talking that there will be construction in these areas also so you might want to check road reports if you plan on riding up there this season. They did have the road tore up between Cooke City and the park entrance with a warning to motorcycles about the road. Yellowstone was nice, seemed like lots of traffic for June and there was still snow there in the higher elevations but the roads were dry. They did have reports of oil and rocking going on this summer there too. The biggest issue I saw was the buffalo of course. The road from West Yellowstone seemed to be very slow in the mornings due to the buffalo using the road to move about. Took me 45 mins a couple of times to get pass them. Also the moose are back in Yellowstone too now. I had one jump out in front of me and ramble across the road, so be careful of them. Also had a report of a 600 lbs Grizzly having dinner on Fishing Bridge road and blocking that road for hours. I then drove up to Glacier via Boseman, Helena and Kalispell, MT. Those road were in good condition and nice scenery along the way. I would recommend to everyone to go north of Helena and take the boat tour for the Gateway to the Mountain. It is about 2 hours long and very beautiful scenery as the Missouri River cut a path though the mountains. In Glacier National Park, the Road to the Sun was not opened yet due to snow and avalanches . They guessing it should be opened by the 4th of July. They did have it open in the lower parts of the mountain but you have to use Hwy 2 to get to the other sides. Hwy 2 thru Montana was in good shape other the some road construction in Havre. This had the road down to gravel and dirt as you went thru town. There was also 6 miles of construction farther east that has it down to gravel and dirt. This is east of Dodson, MT. Other then that, the trip was nice and I wish I could have been on my Venture but that will have to wait for another trip I guess. Hope this helps anyone riding out that way. Rick F.
15. Just a few pics from the Red River Rally. I left my house on Friday, the 23rd, 91 degrees. It cooled off and by the time I got to Red River it was 31 degrees! Brrr!! Snow was caking on my windshield, sleet hitting me in the face...ahh...life is good at 9000 ft up in the northern New Mexico mountains! But by Sunday it was warming up quite a bit. Sunshine and about 65 to 70 degree temps in mid-afternoon. Nights were delightfully cool. Put about 1200 miles on the bike. Ran flawlessly. I'm ready for Sturgis now!
16. Many folks around here consider it the start of the so called riding season when they clear this road.....personally I ride al year round as long as the roads are safe...But they are still clearing the snow around here. SOme of yu actually rode this road when you were he last summer. http://www.reporterherald.com/news_story.asp?ID=16735
17. Got home Thursday and all the snow had finally melted away. I could even find my driveway. Woke up this morning and we have another 6" of snow. I want to RIDE!!!!! Going to Orlando, FL on Tuesday for a sales meeting and trade show. Sure wish I could take the bike but it won't fit in the planes overhead bin.
18. Consider yourself lucky you don't live in Quebec City. One of my guys sent the following pictures. Snow, or no snow, we still have to work in the "crossboxes", i.e. if you can find them (you can just see the tops of one here): http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/BluesLover55/?action=view&current=IMG_0001.jpg And then, you need to clear a space in order to open them: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/BluesLover55/?action=view&current=IMG_0002.jpg And with this one, you should get a sense as to how much snow they actually have: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b320/BluesLover55/?action=view&current=IMG_0004.jpg They may dig themselves out of this by July ... Cheers,
19. Yup they got here yesterday afternoon, so it was time to fire the bikes up, and let them idle for a couple of minutes, still have snow on the ground and a weeks worth of mud to deal with after that,
20. Every thing is on hold. I'm not going to do anything until I get around tuit. Every hear that expression? I thought spring was here but every weekend it's more of that white partly cloudy. I have so many jobs backed up it's not funny. I got 19 locust post in the ground with 30 more to go. I should of had that job done by now but it's either rain or snow on the weekends. Seems like nice pretty days through the week and got to go work. We went yesterday in the snow and bought our electric entrance stuff for temp power at the camp over $500. That job is after the fire pit and the fence job. My 86 is still waiting to be parted out but the mud is so deep no way to get it on the center stand much less decent weather to start. Momamo has rose bushes and apple trees waiting in line. I hope retirement is not like this. I bet it would rain or snow 7 days a week. This week the boss said we was up for recertification so spending spare time study for an exam the end of the month. I just put my rocky gortex boots on going down to the camp to walk around and dream of better weather. Sorry guys looking at the clock every 30 minutes is getting old.I drunk a pot of coffee this morning 2:00 am studying for that exam. When this weather does break and I get caught up me and the 84 have some time coming.

winter

Ok, I love riding my bike which is a summer thing. That being said there are other things to do which are only done in the winter. If the winter is snowy enough we like to build snow sculptures in our front yard. This endeavor requires many hands, shovels, rakes as it takes. Meaning any nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts or friends help for about 4 to 6 hours to transform a lump of snow to whatever we all agree upon. Try that in the south. Another winter endeavor we have is the fun {thats right fun} of sledding down a 1 mile hill. Their is nothing else short of riding our bikes that will put a smile on your face any quicker. Tonight I went to my brother -in- laws. He has been making Maple syrup for 12 years but tonight the conditions were perfect for fresh snow and the first batch of maple syrup. If you've never had this concoction you will never know the explosion of taste that this will leave on your mind. It's no wonder that making Maple syrup goes way back in time. Even though we b-t-h about a ice storm I have to tell you there is nothing more beautiful. When the sun shines upon everything covered in ice.... Its like mother nature adorned in diamonds. Cold, When you first step out into a bitter cold morning and take that first deep breath. Your definitely awake! That all being said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WINTER SUCKS!!!!!!!!! IT LASTS TO LONG!!!!! ITS COLD!!!! THE DA_N SNOW JUST WON'T QUIT! ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL!!! :confused24::rotfl:
23. Snow in Arkansas in March:confused24: Whodathunkit? Maybe I need to repent for the hard time I've been giving you guys up in the cold country? Naw, it's supposed to be 60 degrees here tomorrow.
24. OK, Im usually prepared when I go riding. Here in Colorado between Late Sept. and May ya never know what type of weather you are going to run into. Yesterday every bike in Colorado was out being that it was 70 degrees! Pretty awesome considering it was March 1st. Me and the Mrs. are gonna get some miles but she is fiddle fartin around , taking forever to get ready http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/rolleyes.gif . So I rush her out the door and we actually discussed if we should pack some extra gear. By now Im chompin at the bit...LETS JUST GET GOING!!!! Soooo..we have on t-shirts and hoodies jeans and chaps and the obligatory fingerless gloves and do rags. We decide that we are gonna make a run to Larimie Wyoming. Cool I say -Lets roll. Riding thru Ft. Collins was great...hit highway 14 toward Poudre Canyon, still rompin and a stompin. Open country almost no traffic. AWESOME. On 287 nearing Virginiadale the wind starts to pick up and within minutes we are actually fighting to keep the bike on the road. This wind is getting colder. And colder. We decide to ride it out hoping to catch a break and the wind will die out. Bad idea http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/doubt.gif . Now we are like 50 miles out and the wind is absolutely ripping and bring more cold air as it blows across the snow covered mountains just a few miles to our west. I cant feel the left sided of my face, my hands are freezing and sore from the wind and the death grip I have on the handlebars keeping the bike upright. And now we are both shivering. This really isnt any fun. So after what seems like an eternity we FINALLY roll into Larime and pull into the first gas station we see to try to hide from the weather for a bit. When we stopped the bike we could hear the wind...it sounded like a freight train overhead. We did catch a bit of a break.....the gas station had stocking hats and gloves for sale. SO we decide to gas up and make a run for I-80 toward Cheyenne since the wind is blowing west to east it would be at our backs. So we put on our new "gear" and I pull my facemask out of my bags and we head for I-80. But still we only have the shirts and hoodies on. On I-80 we find that the wind still hates us http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/evil.gif . For some reason it is now blowing south to north. Its not long before we are both shivering again. But now there is even a better surprise waiting for us. About 20 miles outsdie of Larime the wind had blown the snow and melting snow across the road. Ever see ice and snow coming up in the road...you are doing 70 mph and there are 18 wheelers all around ya. http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/shock.gif . Anyway about 15 miles west of Cheyenne we finally get the wind blowing at our backs and the air starts to warm up.SO we hit I-25 headed back to Ft. Collins and just open 'er up. Running at about 90mph. I just wanna go home. Leason re learned.
