  1. Just wanted to give a quick notice that I posted a front and rear RSV Studded Midnight seat in the classifieds incase someone is looking. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2876&title=midnight-studded-seats&cat=7
  2. Just in case someone is interested... here is the latest email (and pics) I got from Mustang. Looks good but also looks like they may take away some butt room and raise you up. ******** Venture Owners, We have an update for you on the progress we have made with the new Mustang seats for the Yamaha Venture. Seat styles have been set, along with pricing. A couple of pictures have been attached showing the first prototype seat on the bike. We can send more pictures upon request, but please be aware that they are large (2MB). Mustang will be making four separate, one-piece, two-person touring seats for the Venture. The seats will all be in the Regal or "pillow" style. They will be available with or without chrome studs, and with or without the built-in driver backrest. We have tried to keep the driver's seating position as close to stock as possible, but our firmer seat foam will result in a slightly higher seat height for both driver and passenger, as you will not sink into the seat like you do on the stock seat. Seats are not yet in production, but will be soon. We cannot take pre-orders yet. As soon as production begins, you will be notified so you can pre-order and get into the waiting line. Wait time will be from two to three weeks once production starts. Prices are as follows: Regal touring seat, no studs, $469.00 Regal touring seat, studded, $499.00 Regal touring seat with built-in driver backrest, no studs, $669.00 Regal touring seat with built-in driver backrest, studded, $699.00 Look over the attached pictures and let me know if you want more. Thanks again for your interest in our products. Ike Customer Service http://www.daraq.com/images/RSV_MustangSeat2.jpg http://www.daraq.com/images/RSV_MustangSeat1.jpg
  3. Greeting all. I just got my second Venture and am glad I found this board. It seems like alot of good contacts and information. Wondering if anyone has an extra "all vinyl" seat and back rest (the one that goes on the back trunk). The new (1987) Venture that I bought has a vinyl and cloth seat (I believe it's an actual Venture seat as I've seen it on other bikes) and I'd rather have an all vinyl one on my bike as I ride in the rain an would prefer something to just wipe off and hit the road. The seats are in decent shape and would even consider a trade if you're looking for a little fancier seat then the vinyl one you have. Please let me know if you have something or know of a place I might look to find one (byekryam@aol.com). I'm in northern NJ. Thanks so much. Woody
  4. I am looking for either a slightly used foam part of the drivers seat or a pillowtop seat. Was working on mine and kind of messed it up. Was able to temp fix it for riding but would like to have something better. If someone has a matched pair and I need to buy them both, I will contemplate it. Thanks for any help, chuck
  5. About 5 years ago I bought a Corbin seat for my Venture. It looked great on the bike but I was never happy with the comfort on long trips (250 miles or more). Last year (after the International Rally) I received my custom built Russel Day Long. Last weekend my wife and I went on a long enough trip that I feel like I'm qualified to review the seat. I wish I had done this the first year I had the bike instead of waiting until I had 77000 miles on the bike. We went to Van Buren Ar last weekend. Did about 340 miles both days. Especially the first day I could have done a lot more. The second day I was just glad to get home before the serious rain hit. With the Russell Day Long you have to have a original seat to send in and then wait for it to be built.
  6. The seat on my MK1 is faded. Does anyone know what can be used to restore it to it's original black? Something that won't rub off on clothing.
  7. Ok, I removed the passenger set to secure one of the HSH (Holy S**T Handles) and go to reattach the seat and I realize that one of the screws/bolts are stripped. I would be willing to accept the blame; however, it never tightened completed. Now I realize I can't get it back out again should I need to tighten the HSH again. That being said, again I would like to proclaim to the world my ignorance of all things mechanical. So now my problem is how do I get this bolt/screw without having to take it to the dealer and have him charge me for what they probably did in the first place. Or is this something that I am going to need help from a more mechanically apt and better stocked individual. TIA P.S. I was only able to take off the passenger seat because I happened to read in here somewhere that the bolts for the passenger seat was located under the driver's seat. P.P.S. I was also only able to remove the driver's seat through the gracious and kindness of another individual here who walked me through removing it on the phone - lol. Did I mention I am totally mechanically inept. It is sooo bad, that the Air Force almost did not let me enlist because of the mechaniccal portion of the ASVAB even though I scored off the charts on everything else. Again, TIA:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
  8. Oh my goodness!!!!:dancefool:What a difference!!!! Got them back on last night and headed out for about a hour ride on Old Mission Peninsula and WOW. Its like a totally different seat. So much more comfortable!! I have to say this is probably the best upgrade I have done to the pearl thanks so much Rick you really saved my a**!!! Bring on that Saddlesore1000!!!!!!!
  9. i got a question for you Texans. i dont have a cover for my bike so i was wondering if i could use one of those big 10 gallon hat covers that you put on your cowboy hats to cover the seat with when it rains? do you think it would stretch enough to fit?
  10. I could us a little input...I know that the main wireing for the turn and brake light is under the seat but does anyone know the color code for the wireing... Whistler:cool10:
  11. My 83 Venture has the stock adjustable handlebars, but I can't get them where I want them. I've had them in and out, up and down, and nothing seems right. I want the handles to be closer to the seat, but when they are swiveled back, the angle is wrong and my wrists ache. Anyone know how to get the actual handles closer to the seat, so I can sit up more, and have the handles at close to right angles to the wheels?
  12. Anyone have this particular seat on their ride? http://www.saddlemen.com/store/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=6886
  13. What a great weekend.. Got a little over 400 miles this weekend on my 2008.. I've got about 580 miles on the bike now in the first week and will be doing the 600 mile maint, and lots of other things... Here's my thoughts after spending all weekend riding out in the Shenandoah's.. First thing.. the ergonomics are a mess!.. who the designed this thing? I can understand a bike is meant to be modified to fit you, but man.. this thing needs a lot of work... As we all know the seat on these are tailbone KILLERS.. I can't believe they don't have a relief in the foam for your tailbone.. I'll be redoing my seat for sure VERY soon.. I'm still having a hard time sitting today.. Also, I can't believe how wide the seat is at the front. Must have been a bowlegged Japanese guy that designed the seat. The bars.. like everyone else.. they are too far forward.. You have to wonder what the hell the build of the guy was that said "Yep, this feels good.. ship it" He must had arms about a foot longer than me.. and I'm 6' I'll be doing the Flanders bar kit.. As far as handling and the ride... LOVE the ride.. nice and smooth.. as far as lots of curves.. show me more.. Handles really great in the mountains. My wife even said she likes it much better than the roadstar. Said it feels like it was meant to take curves with, and that was just sitting on the back. She said it felt more secure.. and I have to agree. It went where you pointed it.. not where it wanted to go.. The one thing I really don't like though is it needs another gear for the highway.. just way too many RPMs for me when cruising on the interstate... Even my roadie don't wrap out as hard as this bike... interesting... Have yet to really work on it , but I'm sure I'll be finding things I like, and things I don't... I just hope it's not as complicated as it looks.. Guess it could be worse and be a Goldwing and take half a day to get to anything on it... I've got very mixed emotions about this bike.. Some things I really like, especially the handling. (however, the low speed handling is a drag too, and I'll be adding the leveling links to see if that helps like others say) Other things I don't like, like the high RPM's on the interstate, and bad ergos from the factory. My wife is super happy on the back, buy I'm not camping real well on the front. Hopefully a lot of money and time will fix that. Just seems like after all the years of this bike being on the market virtually unchanged, they would address some of these issues. Seems I can't be the only one to make mention of these issues. I'm sure once I spend a lot of money, times, and make lots of changes and can call it my own I'll be happy.. but Come On Yamaha!... just like with my Roadstar, you just aren't hitting the mark as good as you could.
  14. Good Morning All, Has anyone bought or tried the Potato Chip Seat offered by Pacific Coast Star for their Tour Deluxe? They charge $160.00 for the seat plus a core deposit on your original seat. They build the seats from the original seat chassis. Their claim is: that their mod will be much more comfortable than stock, and that it will lower you by three inches. The way it works is, you order the seat, receive it, and then you have to weeks to try it. If you like it, you send them your original seat as a core deposit and they credit your card for the core deposit. If you don't like the new seat, you send it back to them. Please see the following links: http://www.pacificcoaststar.com/pcs/royal_star_seats.htm http://www.pacificcoaststar.com/pcs/faq.htm I would appreciate any input. Regards, Tony
  15. Somewhere there is a thread explaining / showing how to modify the stock RSV seat to reduce pressure on the tailbone. Seems I recall a gel pak involved. anyone have a link for this thread? I forgot who did it and can't seem to find it.
  16. I had emailed Mustang some months ago to ask about a seat for our 2nd Gen RSV's. What I got back had a tone to it of "we don't offer it and don't want to so don't bother us". Today I got the following email from them... "Venture Owners, Mustang management has decided to offer replacement seats for the Yamaha Venture to answer the demands of our customers. The decision was made only a short time ago, and only one prototype seat has been tried so far. We are still refining the seat and hope to start production before Summer 2010. There will be four separate seats offered. All will be two-person, one-piece seats. Two with chrome studs, two plain, two with built-in driver backrests and two without. We are not yet making seats and are not taking advanced orders for Venture seats. You have received this message because you have asked about Venture seats in the past. You will continue to receive periodic updates from this office whenever new information becomes available. We are not attaching any pictures of the one prototype seat at this time because that design is being changed. As soon as any pictures are made available, you will receive them. Thanks for your interest in our products and for your patience as we develop a comfortable touring seat for your bike. Ike Customer Service"
  17. Hmm I can JUST hear the puns now.. Bummer, whilst installing my seat, one of the bolts (studs) snapped off.. Impressive since I wasn't applying any torque to the wrench at all but it's busted so now the seat is attached to the bike via one single bolt / stud.. Is there a quick fix to this or what is involved in getting this repaired? Cheers
  18. All I can say is WOW! Rick worked over the driver and passenger seats for me a while back and I just now had a chance to get the bike out and the difference is awesome. My wife and I rode about 150 miles today and we both could tell a lot of difference. I am leaving on a 2,500 mile trip in a couple of weeks and this seat modification is going to make it much more enjoyable. Also, his turnaround time is second to none. It was just one week from the time I sent to seats to Rick until I had them back on my front porch. Thanks Rick, you do nice work.
  19. Well, my 5 gal aux tank arrived today, my Russell Day Long seat arrived last week, completed all the maintenance (other than a Carbtune and brake fluid flush), and am ready to start the riding season. The aux tank fit beautifully on the 3 gal mounting board. Need to pick up a brass fitting and some fuel line at Fleet Farm, but other than that, the ride is gtg. I did find with the aux tank on the pillion seat, I couldn't get the trunk open. However, I removed the passenger backrest and could get the trunk almost to the locked open position. Just need to put some bolts with rubber washers in the mounting holes and I will be done with the tank mounting. I will post some pics this weekend. I am ready to go burn lots of dead dinosaurs! With the aux tank, should get 350 to 400 miles per fillup. Sorry, I'm rambling. Time for bed. RR
  20. Here's my new custom seat. The materials are easy to find and assembly is about 2-3 minutes. Just kidding, Had my seat Down to Rick getting the "Butt Butler" treatment and the weather here in SE Michigan was pretty darn good for early April (70-80 deg) I just couldn't let it set in the garage. Alittle hard on the tailbone but I got in about 70 mileshttp://venturerider.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=634&pictureid=3949
  21. Broke one of the bolts for mounting the drivers seat today. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Any help would be appriciated.
  22. PILLOW TOP™ SADDLEGEL™ SEAT PADS http://images.dragspecialties.com/images/brands/Fatbook/2009/274.JPG:confused24:
  23. Either the Yamaha iteration or directly from Corbin (Corbin makes Yamaha's accessory seat). Who has one on their TD, Do you like it, and is it an improvement over the stock seat for the driver and the passenger (important)? Thank You rstddog
