  1. i don,t know the about the gas prices elsewhere but it has gone up here 1.00 over night !! and the news people say there is plenty off gas here in Fla. Thom
  2. Heading out at 8:30 for the Springs or as soon as my friend arrives. He is an 1:45 minutes north of me. Really looking forward to hitting the road and see folks. For those going, we have an invite from Cycle Gadgets for 10:30 AM Saturday to stop by for coffee and donuts . They are really nice people and have a great selection of touring items. Never have any trouble finding something I want:cool10: I will try to remember to take pictures. Back on Sunday! J:biker:
  3. I will be getting my bike within 2 weeks. Got my other bike stolen and was thinking of buying the Venture S 2008. Some people are saying when you are at low gear and need to turn the bike is hard to maneuver. Is this so? I use to have a Vulcan LT and had no problem whatsoever with corners or whatever. Just curious on people owning the Venture what you think. cheers
  4. Bubber

    Warning!

If you ever plan on ever attending the Pork in the Pines Rally event I just want to warm you! You will meet some of the best people in the western hemisphere if not the world. Since this was my first (as stated on other post as being a Virgin) I realy had no idea what to expect. Finally convince the wife to go because she "didn't know anyone" I told her that it's all good and that I was going and she needed to commit. Well she did. At the rally I met people from Wisconsin, Montana, Canada (eh), and people from all over Minnesoata. If you ever go be prepare to have some of the best pork roast on the planet. Be prepared to be made at home and that you have always been part of the familly. Be prepared to meet people and be treated like long lost friends. Be prepared to have all barriers and preconcieved notions errased and meet some realy nice and real people. Like Rick said he has friends allover the country there isn't a place he can't go where he won't be asked to stay with the people. That is how I felt at the PiP. Met new friends and learned a whole lot of stuff about me. We sat around the camp fire and laughed and laughed and told stories and our best lies. Met new friends and renewed old ones. Ate and drank and spread good cheer. I sincerly want to thank all who organized this rally all who attended. I feel like I have just made many new friends and now have the face to go with the name. My final warning is this guy named Wildhare ever shows up, becarefull. He is a good ol boy from east Texas and that man is a riding fool. He puts more miles on in a month than a lot of people put on in years. He is a real character and I am damn proud to call him my friend. The Canadan Crew were a great bunch of guys and gals and trust me they know how to party. And lastly Thanks to Gary and Ann for allowing a bunch a crazies to share there home and shop and homested. So my final warning is if you weren't there you really missed it. Thanks all!

  6. still need people that are planning to be at the 2009 ar. rally, to go over to the polls heading and vote. even if your not sure yet. there is a spot for that. we need a rough idea of how many people to expect to help with our planning. thanks bill
  7. I ran across this organization today on the net......and then funny thing when we went to counceling today and she asked if we had a support system here....i said no family here and very few friends since we havent lived here long......BUT i said and proceeded to tell her about this group which she was impressed by you all( and come to find out she used to ride) and very glad we had some special people. well she happened to mention BACA then and i told her i had been reading about them.....she thought they may be a good group to get ahold of for some support. http://bacausa.com/
  8. Was it any of you hooligans in our little town of Northwood Iowa Friday night? Spotted a blue 2nd gen Venture in front of the micro brewery we have in town. We were in a hurry to get to Cedar Rapids to my sister's wedding so we didn't have time to stop. We've never seen it before and a lot of people stop at the brewery on their way out to Diamond Jo casino on I-35.
  9. I was standing at the sink a bit ago washing some dishes and just thinking..day dreaming.. started thinking about all the awesome things people from this site have done for others, the way they help expecting nothing in return, the way they dig in their sometimes empty pockets to help someone else in need...the way they arent afraid to ask for prayers when they have a issue in their life or the way they arent ashamed to share problems and fears and illness and happiness and sadness with everyone here. some people here i have never met or may never meet, but they have touched my life.....I have cried here, laughed here, even gotten mad here ..Ive lost special people from here..been inspired from here... I have met some of the most awesome people in the world ! I just felt the need to thank you Don.....and everyone else here for all the laughs and the fun times and friends Ive made and things ive gotten to do and be part of because of this. ok you may now return to the regular scheduled program........ .....geez its tough being menopausal..your emotions sometimes control you......
  10. Okay, so I don't expect much, but I do expect that the city live up to their obligations, especially if they want me to. So, I go in to the city office in June and request that they trim their trees in front of my yard. I went in twice more throughout the summer, both times told I was on the list, and that it was in the works. So last week the trucks show up and they're trimming. Well, I wait a couple days, no truck in front of my house, I call today and am told they are done and I'll have to wait until next year, and that I have weeds in my yard and that they have to be taken care of or they'll fine me. So, here I am, being blown off, but in the same breath being told what I need to do. Consequently, I get pissed, raise my voice (not yelling, but not happy either) and go off on the first woman, and get transferred to another woman. (sorry gals, but I HATE dealing with women in these positions) She then proceeds to tell me that they ran out of money (after they put up an $850,000 community center this summer for a town of 600 people) and they had to prioritize, so they took the dead ones, and other people chipped in to get theirs taken down. I reiterated that they were not MY trees, they were on city property and the one tree in specific has a dead branch that has been threatening to come down on vehicles parked under/near the tree, and that if they were needing money chipped in, I was never informed and was not about to take care of my weeds until the city did their job. I then told them to just try to get a check for any fines out of me. So next, I was told that it wasn't courteous to raise my voice, to which I quickly responded that I'm not a nice guy, and to not expect it, especially if they were going to defend not doing their jobs. Oh, then on top of that, she tells me that a good citizen would go out and do it themselves to beautify the town. WHAT THE F*** am I paying taxes for!? Oh, I'm still steamed about it. Damn bastards, think they're so high and mighty because they sit in that office all day making decisions for other people, just ticks me off. Okay, I"m done.
  11. I got back on Sat night from Sturgis. I took a 63 year old virgin he had never been to the rally. He is still grinning from ear to ear like a kid in a candy store. On our first trip into town we were on our way back to camp 8 miles south of Sturgis someone tried to make a U turn in the middle of the road and got T boned by another bike. With having previous EMS and Law Enforcement background I took over the scene directed someone to get help (no cell service) and had 3 people direct traffic and assisted the victims. Both lived one was air lifted from the scene. In 14 years I have attended the rally this is the second accident that I have assisted with and I hope it is my last one. Lots of people stopped and helped out some people didn’t even ask what they could do they jumped in and did what needed to be done.
  12. One of the hardest things to do is schedule only 1 week of vacation time around a meet or rally. I truly wish we could make them all but many people like myself have to pick and choose. Usually it is those events within a days ride. I know there are many people who show up and many more who would like to have attended. On the way back from Asheville we meet a couple who are members from Ohio. They view the site and read many of the post. It's a small world out there. Maybe someday we can join the 50K a year club and ride.If you sponsor a meet and eat keep up the good work. Many of us would love to come but until then we appreciate the pictures and all the excitement from those who did.
  13. I was a little thirsty the other day so I bought some beer. There sure was a lot of people giving me funny looks on my way home...
  14. The NAVIGATOR and I went and seen the Dark Knight at South Point casino. When we pulled in there was a real pretty blue VENTURE so we parked next to it and I got one of my VENTURERIDER cards out to put on the windshield and low and behold there was a VR card already there. We looked at it and it was left by none other then our own Princess M (very cool). We went in and saw the movie (which was pretty good) and came out and Princess M and DK KNIGHT left us a card on our windshield asking "WHO R U" So it was I and the NAVIGATOR so now you know and we should do ??. Your people contact my people and it will be magical Maybe a little M & E with all the other VR members in the area. Hope the person an the Blue VENTURE contacts the board or me my ph# is on my card...........................................Ron
  15. keep your fingers, legs, eyeballs, and anything else you can bodily cross, crossed today. The saga of the Venture has continued. Still torn down at the dealer, but didn't want to keep crying and whining here about it...one thing after another with lost parts in the mail, etc,etc....anyway, ... tonight is suppose to be the big night, after 4 weeks, that we get our baby back. I appreciate all the moral support you have given me....it helps to have people understand. So, even if your co workers look strange at you walking around with your legs crossed, just tell them "No you don't need to use the restroom, your just helpin' out a friend! Thanks again!
  16. Well I rolled in to the homestead at 10:00PM last night with 15 hours on the bike (not counting gas breaks and eating). Pulled a trailer from North Branch MN to Denver then up to the Black Hill of North Dakota then over across the plans to Home. I met Daryle and his nice wife in Larchwood Iowa on the way out and I met BigJohn in Denver. On the way home I met OB-1 and his nice wife up in Sundance Wy, We all went out to dinner together and shot the BS. All were VERY nice people and all love bikes and especialy Ventures. So whats not to like????? I spent a day hacking around the Black Hills, saw Mount Rushmore, drove the canyon (not to miss) but unfortunatly didn't get to the Neddles canyon and where ever the buffalo are. Sorry I didn't call OB-1 to go for a ride for the day but I just hacked around locally and was going here and there without a real plan. I was fortunate that I never really hit rain on the way out or on the way back, some sprinkles but no out and out rain. Well I take that back, while I was visiting with Daryle and his wife I rained like cats and dogs but since I was visiting and indoors I didn't count that. It cleared and I was able to get another 100 miles on before calling it a day. All the way out and all the way back no matter who I talked to, biker, shop keeper, cagers, cashiers they were all just great, friendly and polite. EXCEPT the one cashier in Cheyene WY that had a personality of of a cornered bobcat with someone poking it with a stick. I finally had enough of her being rude to all the customers ahead of me and when she pulled that crap on me I told her she needed to get a personality. As I walked away I mumbled to myself what a B!tch, I thought I heard from behind " I heard that". While I hope she did mabey she will get a handle on waiting on people. Yes I know it can be a SOB dealing with people all day but she needed to treat people a whloe lot better. OH YA! the equipment failure....... Well.... when I was in Nebraska getting lost I noticed that my rear tire was looking thin so when I got to Denver I had it replaced at Coyote Yamaha. they put on a Dunlope 404 and the bonus was the whine from the original tire disapeared to. But that wasn't the failure........ the failure was while in the Black hills I had to use my Strebel horn on a cager. Well it sounded ok for a split second or so then it sounded like it was being strangled (and still does) I havn't used it much and am diasapointed that a failure of this type occurs after a less than 10 seconds total use. So thats my story and I'm sticking to it! I am spending the day recovering from yesterdays ride. Good to be back and safe riding to all who are on the road. Bubber aka Steve Stelter

  18. Well I have to say I had a great time with great people . The Boys and Girls of the Kitchener area did a great job. I have to say I have never laughed so hard in ages ...thanks to Hal ...and yes you folks have to ask for pictures ...You'll know why I was laughing so dam hard. This is one for my favorite area's to ride in ...and if you didn't make it you missed out you missed out on some great riding and most of all the great people that show up at these meets. All I have to say is Thanks Reiny and Gang!!
  19. I wont mention who's home in WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA I saw this box of Krispy Kreme's at.....but it wasn't all that long ago, and there were lots of people there PS Look at the one thats HALF eaten!!
  20. I've often seen people here who are looking for driver's backrests for the first generation Ventures. Markland used to make one but of course it is no longer in production. They do come up on Ebay from time to time but usually bring top dollar. I was wondering how many people know that Utopia still makes a backrest for the first gen. At least for the '86-'93 I think. It requires a bit of work to install but really doesn't look that difficult. http://www.utpr.com/venture.html
  21. Good jobs use to be hard to find in WV. Now it's hard to find good people. A friend of mine said yesterday 25 people applied for jobs with his department. All 25 failed 1 or more of the first 3 requirements for hire. 1. Do you have a valid drivers licensee. 2. Can you pass a drug test ( been clean for 2 years). 3. Can you pass a criminal background check.
  22. So, there I was this week with my parents. They are national board members for the American Voyagers Association, a motorcycle club that (although is 85-90% Kaw. Voyagers) allows all makes of bikes. Wife and I went there with them mainly because their national rally this year was only 2 hours from our home. On the last day, they always hold a bike show. All people in attendance are allowed (no charge) to enter their bikes and all attendees are allowed to vote for their favorites. Classes were: sport bike, trike/sidecar, cruiser, stock touring, and custom touring. After looking around and talking with my dad, at the last minute, I decided to enter my RSV. The only Venture entered. There were a few GWs and many Voyagers. So I registered the bike, cleaned a few bugs off the windshield (rest of the bike was already clean) and headed to town to pick up my mother at the motel. We got back as most people had voted or were finishing up their votes. To my great surprise, my 2007, Blue RSV won the stock touring class at a Voyager rally.
  23. Hows this for Beautiful People..................
  24. Ladies and Gentleman, I'm not one to sugar-coat things and would rather be blunt then to talk like a politician and take the chance on being misunderstood. So...that fact of the matter is: our 2008 VentureRider Rally is about 10 weeks away. We have organized campsites and cabins, we have organized buffet breakfasts for everyone so that we all eat breakfast together as a group, we have people organizing rides, we have a design made up for patches and t-shirts. All the prices that we have arranged for breakfasts, or for patches or t-shirts is based on some quantity sales. IF we don't have enough numbers, we are not getting the prices we want....I think everyone can appreciate how that works. As of today we have: 2 orders for T-shirts, 9 people registered for the rally and 9 people have purchased raffle tickets for the trailer. PEOPLE - we need some commitment for this event and we need it very soon or we have to re-evaluate how we are going to do things and at what cost, IF we are doing it at all! I will need to confirm the issue of breakfasts at the resort soon. If we don't get some orders soon for t-shirts, either we won't have enough to make it cost-effective, or we won't be able to get the shirts done in time for the rally. Today is Sunday April 27th. We need to be able to confirm some of these numbers by Friday May 9th or we will have to make some major changes to the event. Sorry to sound heavy-handed here but we need some commitment here....real soon.
  25. Am looking for suggestions for slip on exhaust for rsmv. Would like just a little move volume than stock with a deep sound. Know some people like the bub sleepers. Any suggestions and thoughts will help.
