  1. well i mapped out the rides for the st. charles meet in may and they are going to be awesome. i road the friday ride to hannibal last saturday, it is 238 mile and covers some beautiful country in illinois and missouri. the friday ride to herman mo. will pass many historic sights and more beautiful country and lots of twisties. it will be 147 miles. i garantee these will be really nice rides. i want to really do it up right this year cuz it will probably be my last meet here. so i hope to see lots of people. this will be a meet to remember. sure wish i could get lewis, eck, and some of the georgia people up here to repay them for their great hospitality.
  2. Went to the Petsmart to purchase dog food and almost $hit. We have a 170-180 lb Newfoundland Dog. We have been feeding him Authority dog food and purchase a 40 lb bag about once a month. Tonight I walked in and walked out, then had to go back pay. The last bag I bought a month ago was 32.99 and today it was 45.99 not including the 13% taxes. Eukanuba was 75.99 (plus tax) for a 40 lb bag. I had to ask the lady at the desk how they can justify a (39.4%) increase. She smiled and continued to smile as she said Rice and corn have gone up (Not sure how much this inrease was) Transportation costs (Price a barrel is 1/3 the cost it was a year ago) Petcetara went backrupt (purchased by Petsmart) People are losing their jobs (Not sure how this has anything to do with the increase) and do not forget everything we purchase will be getting the new Ontario Harmony tax of 13% (which has always been part of purchasing dog food). I wanted to ask her to explain her answers but I just looked at her smiling face and knew I would be wasting my time. I feel sorry for the pets and the Humane Societies as people stop adopting pets. Or worse off people giveing them up, in tough times. Brad
  3. This looks like a good program for people that ride in Wisconsin http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/safety/vehicle/motorcycle/rusticroads.htm
  4. Mom Nabbed for Breastfeeding While Driving http://www.newser.com/story/52071/mom-nabbed-for-breastfeeding-while-driving.html It never ceases to amaze me at just how stupid the human race can be sometimes. This is a classic example of why "Big Brother" thinks he has to make so many ridiculous laws to protect us from ourselves. A few people out of how many millions does something stupid, and now we ALL will have to suffer the consequences.
  5. not sure if this is a good price or if you can make them work but as i see people looking all the time i was sent this tonight and thought id post it up for all to look http://store.valueaccessories.net/passengerarmrestsstandardorlowprofile.aspx
  6. Being the owner of an rsv i am wondering about how often you need to synchronize the carbs? I am thinking about buying a Carbtune to do it myself instead of bugging other people to do it for me. :snow2:
  7. If you are going to be doing any work on your brakes, before you go for a test ride, make sure you have an 8mm or 5/16 wrench with you. If for some reason your brakes start getting hot, a quick temporary fix is to release the brake bleed and relieve the pressure. I keep reading where people work on the brakes and go for a ride and it either gets gets hot or locks up and they are stranded until they can get someone to bring a trailer and wrestle it up on it. Another thing I am seeing is people with a brake pedal that is sticking or not coming back to the correct stop and not bleeding back into the reservoir, causing the same problem. RandyA
  8. Maybe it's just that I have lived in this city too long and have trouble seeing the good in a lot of people these days. But tonight I was watching the news and maybe I need to give it another chance. This afternoon it did warm up to the 50's. A long way up from where it has been. Some bikes where out and enjoying the weather. A motorcyclist was riding out at 132nd and Pacific when some motorists noticed money was falling out of his pocket and blowing all over the street. Busy area, 4 lanes and lots of traffic. Some drivers stopped and started grabbing up the money and a couple others took off and chased the guy down and stopped him. When he returned to the area the people that had picked up the cash were waiting for him. YES! I said they were waiting. He had lost $2,500 in $100 bills out of his pocket. He got it all back except a single $100 bill. I think the LEO's that finally arrived were more shocked than he was. There are still some honest people out there. I just wish there were more of them.
  9. well the time has come that i have had to make the big discision, to sell all my bikes. i have a v-star 1300, 1800 gold wing, yamaha majesty scooter, and a zx-1400 kawasaki to sell. just turned 66 and it's time i face the fact that i'm not as young as i thought i was. so i have decided when i turn 75 i will have to part with them. horrors. so i am getting a list together of people who will be interested. now this is what you do when you come down with cabin fever. snarley bill
  10. My whole adult life I've been struggling with the question of what I wanted to do when I grew up. Now at the young age of 53 I think I finally know. Yesterday I sealed the deal on a new job which I am hoping will finally put me there. Ever since I got back from my Sturgis trip things have been kinda slow. The projects I've been working on either got completed or petered out right before Thanksgiving and things have been at dead stop since November. Being idle and considering the lousy weather we've been having I have been wrestling with my mental and financial health warding off cabin fever and slow cash flow issues. In the mean time doing my "What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up" exercises. These exercises pretty much involves making a list of the components of the perfect job and then develop a strategy to find that job and get hired for it. My list pretty much read like this: I want a job that requires me to do the following: Ride my motorcycle Travel to meet other people involved with Motorcycling. Conduct business with people who had motorcycling on their minds, for fun and profit. Attending, covering and participating in motorcycling rides, gatherings and events. Writing about those places, people and events I experienced while doing my job. Getting paid for doing all of the foregoing. Work with other people with similar interest and values. I did not want to have a job where : I had to be stuck inside all the time. I had a set schedule or routine that forced me to combat rush hour traffic daily. I was required to wear a coat and tie everyday. My pay did not represent the effectiveness of my efforts. IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON HERE; Once you decide and can visualize what you want in life, point your nose in that direction and follow it. Eventually you will find what your looking for. So Yesterday, I spent several hours with Jerry McDaniel Owner/Editor of Thunder Roads Magazine of Georgia and as of today will be working for him as a Field Representative for his magazine. Being a field rep includes all of the foregoing but, mostly seeking out Motorcycle friendly businesses in Georgia and enticing them into advertising in the magazine. So, if any of you out there, especially North Georgia members know of any Georgia motorcycle friendly businesses who would like to increase their exposure in the Georgia Motorcycling community through direct market advertising in Thunder Roads Magazine, send me an e-mail and a lead. I'll take all the help I can get to get a fast jump off the line. And do appreciate it. Or, If you have any event anouncements you would like included in the magazine, give me a shout.
  11. Hello Everybody! Great forum. I'm replacing the tires on my 86' w/53k and the rear ball bearing is a little crunchy. The needle bearing seems fine. I will probably replace the fronts to just because. My question is what is the model # of these cheap aftermarket bearings? I've seen people talk about them but can't find a model #. Also, which is the best online place for oem parts? Thanks in advance!
  12. We are supposed to be getting .10 to .25 of sleet and ice tonight. THat will shut down the entire town!!! Call out the state guard and roll up the roadways. Call Washington for disaster relief. People around here can't drive in the rain let alone snow or ice. You watch, people will DIE tonight and tomorrow. Sad but true. Tom in Blanco will be getting his share about 9pm. San Antonio is supposed to get it by midnight. Jo
  13. Well I decided to try and keep the RSV instead of people trying to get something for nothing. It sometimes seems that when people get into a fix they should get something for nothing. I cut my price down as low as I will go but for some people its not enough so I decided to keep my RSV. However we thank you for all the comments and suggestions. Hope we can see everyone this riding season.. Thanks,Joe
  14. 95 RSV stock tire 150/80 hr 16 Time for a replacement soon....trouble is I remember reading awhile ago about people using a different sized tire up front. I have looked to no avail. Any recollection? Much appreciated:think:

  16. it has been decided that we are going to have vendors at the 2009 rally. danob11 is in charge of the vendors. by vendors we we mean outside venders and people on the site that have items they have to sell or that they make and sell. i was thinking of having a swap meet area where people could put items that are bike related. to sell or trade. whats everyone think of this idea? bill

  18. A PUZZLE FOR SMART PEOPLE.... I am sending this only to my smart friends. I could not figure it out and had to look at the answer. See if you can figure out what these words have in common. Banana Dresser Grammar Potato Revive Uneven Assess Are you peeking or have you already given up? Give it another try. Look at each word carefully. (You'll kick yourself when you discover the answer.) Answer: In all of the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, and then spell the word backwards, it will be the same word.
  19. http://wonkette.com/405196/roland-burris-has-already-constructed-his-terrifying-death-chamber It's refreshing to see a Chicago politician who thinks about nothing but serving the People of Illinois and not his own interests.

    Ravens

The weather here was a little cold to ride today so I had a good time watching the Baltimore Ravens battle a hard game. It's nice to see a good young QB for the team as well. How many people think they have a chance of the Super Bowl Ring? Go Ravens Bill
  21. Look full moon today. Took this pic at a bike rally. Having a little fun watching people. Couldn't resist snapping a shot. http://helmetspeakers.741.com/myimages/forums/moon.jpg
  22. well looks like we made it through another year. we had some downs, lost some members, some of the members hit some hard times, others had some very unfortionate events take place, but we have weathered the storm. why? because we are a group of great caring people. you will probably never ever find another group as close knit as the venture riders are. when don put this together he did something exactly right. i doubt if he thought it would turn out to be what it is. thanks don. i just hate to hear people say they are leaving the group because they bought a harley or some other off the wall bike like my lowly gold wing. it just does'nt matter.thats not what this group is about. we are friends and will always be here for each other. we have a great year of many of events coming up and i wish i could make all of them. someday i am dreaming of being like la pryor, a real free spirit. linda, and i hope to see you all down the road next year. happy new year to all of you. your good buddy bill
  23. I must be getting older because today I'm heading out to buy some electric clothes. 50 degrees is colder then it was 5 years ago, maybe it has something with that global heating thing people talk about these days....
  24. Merry Christmas to all of our wonderful members and visitors here. As the year comes to an end, I can only look back and be thankful for all the wonderful friends that have joined together here to become a family. Some of you I have met, others I hope to meet in the future but all are an important part of what we have built here. In spite of all the negative things that are going on in the world around us, I know that I can always come here and see so much good being done by so many of you here and I know that because of people like you, our future is bright. Here is a little clip from a classic animated movie that says it better than I can. God Bless each and every one of you. 25. A few months ago a barrel of oil was about $150+ with predictions of over $200, we are now less than $34. On gasbuddy.com, gas is as low as $1.20 in some places. This would be a great thing if we did not have the economy spiraling down in every direction. I am of the opinion that a lot of what we are seeing is directly related to energy costs going up and taking everything else with it. I feel that many families ended up using all their extra income to pay for fuel costs and in turn simply quit buying anything they did not HAVE to buy. Now, with people tightening up, many others have lost their jobs. Greed seems to be controlling the financial industry and sometimes it bites you in the butt, as in giving your money to Madoff, yeah, he "made off" with a lot of peoples money. There are several people that now are saying that all along Madoff was crooked and the Securities and Exchange Commission would not listen. There may be some heads rolling there. I would be interested in what others have to say, but let us not make this a political discussion. RandyA
