  1. I have been on blueridgeparkway.gov and it appears that the closure from Asheville up to Mt Mitchell is now open. They are in the process of paving most of that area, which was the worst condition of any part of the parkway, but traffic is moving with some occasional waits. There is also an 11 mile detour near Boone for a landslide that is closed, but detour signs can keep you on track. RandyA
  2. I was having an issue with no power up to 55 mph. I would twist the throttle all of the way around and it would excelerate no faster than if I normally twisted it. I assumed that my jets were probably clogged, so I had pulled te carbs out and cleaned the jets and everything real good. Mind you, I did not make any adjustments to anything. I put it all back together and it fired it up, but now it sounds weak, as if it is running on 2 out of 4 carbs. All 4 slides are moving as they should. When I ride, the RPMs go up, but it doesnt feel llike the bike is moving like it should. It almost feels like it is leveling out....not sure how else to explain it. I have no idea where to go with this one.....There are no vaccum leaks that I can find....... Please help...... Stumped.... 83VR3711

  4. Ok, here's the deal. I was very glad when I found there was a site for Yamaha Ventures Today I purchased an 88 Venture Royale. It is in what appears to be very good shape, however I noticed that it would not rev up. It will go well out of the hole but will not let the rpm's get very high. You need to shift sooner than usual or it will bog down. Max speed as it is right now is about 45 mph. At a standstill if you give it throttle it will only rev up a little and then it stutters. I pulled the parts off to look down the throat of the carbs and as I give it throttle all 4 sleeves appear to shutter after moving only a little. Since the rest of the bike was excellent, the transmission felt good and the engine appears to run well I thought I would take a chance on it being something relatively simple. Any ideas? or do I have a real nice coat rack in may garage? Thanks for any help you can give me BnkrBill
  5. As of November 26th, I have once again joined the club of household indebtedness. I closed on the new house and have included a picture of the front and back. I begin moving in on December 1st and being fully into the house by the 22nd and celebrating Christmas with my family in it.
  6. I was in a foot of snow on Snowshoe Mtn today 4800 ft. Coming across Rt 15 on Pt Mtn 4000 ft the snow was 8 inches with leaves in full color on the trees. Those golden, red, and yellow leaves look neat on top of snow. Oh yea the deer were moving everywhere. No scooters to be seen. New tires on the 4 wheel drive work great. :snow2:
  7. Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of our tragic accident and my dear wife, Leslie's death. Honey I miss you as much now as the day I was told about your death. You will be in my heart and thoughts for the rest of my life. The tears still come but not as often. Sometimes the tears come because of happy thoughts. And sometimes I even have a laugh now and then when I think of you. I know you still ride with me where ever I go. Life is moving on and I'm getting better. All the friends I have, have helped me get through this. Thanks to everyone here for your prayers and good thoughts.
  8. Weather forcast says we just might get some snow! NNNOOOOOOOOO!!!! Now ask me why Im moving to Florida!

    Gasoline odor

I filled up the tank for the first time, and the gas smell while I was riding was so strong that I pulled over thinking that I had a gas leak. There was nothing. Now 100 miles later the smell is still there, and I have to keep moving my head above the windscreen to get air that does not smell like gas. I called the dealer and they said it was a clogged vent. That was not the case. Has anyone else experienced this?
  11. Forcast for Skid Inn looking good. I'll probably ride in the back of the pack. I want to try out my glare filters in these transitions lenses. It should be a sunny weekend and all that slow moving harley look a like chrome in front of me. You know that waxed buffed and shiny second gen type. Come to think of it I bet Skid has been waxing that 86 for a month to.:stirthepot::rotf:

    Moving, Vr for sale

Folks, regretfully am selling my beautiful 89 VR. Downsizing and moving, so it must go. It is listed in the classifieds if anyone is interested. It is a nice bike looking for a good home. I will be checking in on you folks occasionally even after it is sold, as this place and all of you are part of me now. I couldnt stop coming here if I tried. Cant say enough what a great bunch you all are!
  13. OK - who were you? I saw a nice, black, RSV, pulling a trailer, man and woman of retirement vintage, on Ocracoke Island North Carolina. Didn't stop - just kept moving along. Who was there this week except for me and about a gazillion HDs?
  14. Here is the thing folks. Before moving to our new hosting company, I spent HOURS researching, talking to others who host VBulletin forums, etc. I narrowed it down to 3 companies and then chose the one that I THOUGHT would be the best for our needs. I spend many hours over a two or three night period moving our entire site to the new server. It is not working out. Sometimes I just want to sit down and cry but I don't think that is becoming for a grown man. To make a long story short...I will be moving us again. Probably within the next few hours. I have once again secured a new server and am waiting for it to be setup as I type this. I will then migrate our site to the new server and will then change the nameservers again to point to the new IP address. What does this mean? Other than a lot of work, it means that from the time the new server is setup and then I do a backup of the current files and database and then move and configure them on the new server, we again lose posts that are made in that span of time of me backing up the old one, moving to the new one and then changing the nameservers. All I can say is that I am very sorry. I tried very hard to do my homework and make sure it would be a good move for us. It's just not working out.
  15. Sadly the museum is moving out of NC. http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080225/NEWS01/80225027/1009
  16. How involved is moving the passenger headset plug-in? I have read else where that some have moved the plug to the back of the drivers backrest. I was wondering how invovled that is. Does the trunk need to be pulled for this, and do you need additional cable? Just looking to place the plug in a more convient location for the passenger so they can plug in when already mounted on the bike. Thanks in advance SlimJim 04' white RSV
  17. Well folks first of all I don't want to offend any Texans but were moving to the Dover Delaware area of the woods. I'm retired but my wife still work for the Department of Defense (Air Force civilian emplyee) and she has been asked to move to Dover Air Force Base. We talked about this for a few days seeing as how we just moved from the St. Louis area last Feb. A few things clinced it for us first and formost is that Del Rio doesn't have a good hospital and forget about shopping if that's your thing and for women it is. Del Rio is a nice small friendly town and I have meet and enjoy the new friends we have made since moving here and I will miss riding with some of you on this forum as well as the Southern Cruisers here in the Del Rio area. But we have decided to take the promotional opportunity and move to the East coast. We don't have a firm date on the move yet but expect it to be within the next 3 months. I am looking forward to meeting all the people on this forum that live in the Dover area. It's never to late to make new friends and who has to many friends anyway. I will have to find something to do during the winter weather rut in Delaware. Just how many days of riding do you Delawarians (spelling) have anyway?

Do you - like I do - sometimes think that things are just moving along at the speed of light? I sometimes wonder if it's just a case of me getting older and not being able to catch up ... well, the following tends to say that I may not be alone! http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/shifthappens Cheers,

  21. This weekend while riding the Talimena Drive we happened upon 'The Moving Wall'. For those who don't know what this is - it's a replica of the Vietnam Memorial in DC. To see all the names of the men and women who gave their lives while serving our county in Vietman, is moving beyond words. Bill Ingraham and PrettyLady paid their respect to the fallen heros, while NEWTrk06 and I visited my brother who is listed on pannel 39E line 66, Marine Lance Corporal Harry Warren Schneider, who died from wounds received in combact on Feb. 16, 1968.
