  1. I just wanted to say that I did the cassette removal mod yesterday and it's great! I made a nice little lined pocket to hold my ipod and whatever else. Thanks to the others who did this before me and posted the info online.
  2. Does anyone have a set of stock exhaust for a '08 RSV they want out of their shop. I am looking for a set cheap or cheaper. If you just want them gone before you throw them out I'll pay the shipping to get them out here so I can drill and try them. Let me know what you have. I want to do the exhaust mod on them and try it. Thanks
  3. After 3 days of 40F temps I am no longer ice bound!! Took the scoot out on the road today and nailed down a solid 4 hour ride. The seat mod that Rick Butler did is just PERFECT and added to my extreme pleasure. Boomer.....with a grin from ear to ear. Note to Mother Nature: Pfffffffffffttttttttttt and in yer ear!
  4. I have seen somewhere that this can be done. I looked for a "How To" but found nothing. Maybe someone who has done this mod could share technical info, parts used etc..... Thanks
  5. Shipped my seat off to Rick Butler this morning. I have parked my butt on 2 Venture seats that he has done his Mod to and I am very confident in his craftsmanship.
  6. From various posts on this site I have just completed the "air cleaner mod" and the "cassette deck to storage compartment" mod. What a piece of cake it was! Thanks a bunch! And what better way to spend a snowy Saturday afternoon...it's been snowing since sometime last night and it's still snowing!! gawwwddd are we ever gonna see the end of this? Well, according to the weather forecasters, we should be getting rain, rain, and more rain over the coming days...won't that be nice...NOT! .. What a mess we'll have but at least I don't have to shovel RAIN!
  7. Just got my seat back from rick and i must say i really like the way my seat turned out. I would tell everyone to get this mod. done to your seat , so again thank you rick you saved my butt and it thank's you also.
  8. Rick, Thanks for the mod on my rsv seat. I received it in the mail today, and am very happy with it! Only took it out for a small ride so I couldn't check out the comfort, but having my feet closer to the groung made all the difference in my feelings about the bike. I have never been dissapointed by any of our clubs venors, and you certainly are as advertised. My many thanks again. I am also posting this on the web so any newbees will know of your product. kenw
  9. well i got my wing on the road this morning with my totally reworked racetech forks. what a difference in the ride. disabled the antidive with the mod and it really handles the washboard bumps now. really made a noticable difference. did anyone ever wonder why we can buy a new car and don't have to buy seats, modify suspension so it rides and handles right, change the steering wheel so it's more comfortable, etc. if any one should be able to build a perfect bike it ought to be the japenese. please don't let this go political. bill
  10. well i got the race tech mod done on my wing forks, and they are back on the bike. what a job. learned a whole lot about front suspension and dampening that i never new. all i have left to do is put the wheel on, and the plastic. next comes the progressive rear suspension mod. thats way down the road. got no complaints on the oem rear suspension. can't wait to hit the twisties. maybe next weekend. bill
  11. I haven't seen anything mentioned like this on here yet, so I thought I'd mention it. I wanted something with just a little more volume than the OEM, but not as loud as the Baron's 4-2-4 that came with my bike, which I've got on Ebay right now. I was lucky enough to have a neighbor who rode a Harley and the other day I mentioned the RK muffler mod I had read about on here. He said he still had the ones he took off his '01 that I could have if I wanted to try it. Anyway, what I learned from him was the mod lots of Harley RK owners do to theirs to get the slight increase they wanted. You don't have to do any drilling or grinding!! When you look inside the baffles what you're seeing at the end of them is actually just a plug that is spot welded in place. There are two of them, one facing each end. All you have to do is find a bar or piece of thick wall pipe just slightly smaller than the opening and hammer it all the way through the muffler. It will knock both plugs out, then you have one continuous baffle straight through just like the old "Cherry Bomb" mufflers for cars. I did it and it turned up my highway volume just a little bit, but with a really nice tone. And the sweet part is the nice rumble you get when you take off that drops off as you level out. So there it is; the simplest exhaust mod I've heard of yet. And to think I had to learn it from a Harley owner!!
  12. I di d a search to look fo ra MOd like this But i didnt find one. I s there a simple Mod that will Have the rear turning lamps come on with the brake light? I Saw a H/D the other day and hehad this done to his bike. It made it very noticable when braking.
  13. The brakes on my '83 VR aren't real flash. Has anyone done a mod to upgrade ? Jim O'D In the land of OZ.
  14. Can anyone verify for me where the shim placement is for the needle valve modification. I want to make this mod. I read the article in the tech section but it is not clear to me where to move or add the shim. I think it goes under the plastic piece on the needle but want to be sure before I do this. I also was hoping to hear from some people who have made this mod without jetting the carbs. Is it worth the effort? thanks for the help
  15. It's been a busy couple of weeks. Sent the seats off to Spencer to be reworked. Haven't had a chance to ride them to see if it cured my ills. Added driving lights to the fender, slipped the forks an inch, put the smaller Clearview tinted with vent on, and did the amp for the cassette mod. Couple of questions; On the amp mod it seems like I'm topping out and distorting way to quick. I'd say I'm tapped in after the stock amp. Anyone got the wiring schematic to bypass the stock amp? Using risers; the rubber stoppers no longer work for the fairing and it shakes. How have you dealt with this to fix it? I have slashcut pipes to put on, but I'd ordered the wide chrome clamps to put them on with and for the life of me can't find them. I have the box they came in, remember looking at them, and they've vanished...
  16. Hey, Have read about a mod to the YCIS system called a "JASON MOD" what is it?
  17. Anyone had a Mean City Cycle Seat Modification done on their bike. Looking to get the wife's seat done on her Honda VTX 1300, so she can keep up with the old man on our touring adventures. If yes, which grade of drivers seat modification did you select. If this mod works I might try it on my 2nd Gen Venture. Thanks
  18. I have replaced my installation instructions for the Bulter Mod with some very good instructions that Rick was nice enough to put together. You can find them here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=116327#post116327
  19. Has anyone tried the headlight mod that's in the tech section? I want to try it on my 06 RSV but don't want to break my good headlight. Does anyone have a broken one laying around or do you know of one?? Give me a shout if you do. Thanks.
  20. Marshall Gammon was kind enough to send me this diagram showing how to properly use hook up a SWR meter if you have done the Marshall Mod to your radio. I am attaching two files. One is a regular .jpg file but the reduction in size makes it a bit hard to read. The other is a .ppt file. Very good quality if you have PowerPoint. If you don't know what the Marshall Mod is, here is a link to Marshall's page. http://bludolphintravel.com/gmg/marshallmod.htm Thanks go out to Marshall for the excellent diagram. 14145.ppt

  22. I want to try the headlight mod that's in the tech section but don't want to use my good light. Do any of you guys have a broken one or know of one?? If you do give me a shout. thanks.
  23. I was talking to Yogi on this site and he said that he head that Dothan Powersports in Dothan, AL would do a mod on the venture that would increase the hp to 120. Today I rode to Dothan with some friends to the Dothan Bikefest and on the way back we stopped at Dothan Powersports. I talked to the service manager about this. He said he used to have a tour deluxe and did this mod on it. They re-route the air intake and mount four K&N air filters under the tank. Then they put on either bub or barons pipes, I don't remember which pipes he said, and they rejet the carbs. The manager said this would increase the hp to 120 and increase your gas mileage. Just wondering if any of you have heard of this or tried this. Oh, and the cost is $1,200, which means I won't being doing this anytime soon.
  24. I would like to improve my AM reception if possible. There are places where I cannot get the AM stations that I can in my trucks. Improving FM reception is a welcome addition although I can get all the stations that my trucks can. The Marshall mod confuses me a bit as i don't get all the lingo and the bases and stuff... (Just what the hell is a PL259?? He references it but makes no mention of it in the parts list...) Anyway...I don't need a folding bases. I have a metal grommet in my cover that the antenna slips through. I was very proud of that mod and don't want it to be wasted by going with a fold down bases. My base doesn't fold down now anyway due to "oldness". So...what IS the best antenna to use and what base would I use? And is there anything else I can do to improve my AM reception. Stupid questions but...can I run TWO antennas for improved reception to the radio? I do not use the CB antenna and have actually taken it and the entire holder off. (We don't use CB's here or rather, when I tried nobody answered me.) Is it possible to split the AM & FM signals to different antennas without having some sort of Radio Engineering degree and a thousand bucks. Or even run two AM/FM antennas or is two not better in this situation?
