  1. Does anyone have any experience with the Roadstar Silverado? I have the opportunity to trade my old 72 Suburban for an 07 Roadstar with 3400 miles on it. I checked out the Roadstar forums but can't find the kind of information I find here. Is there anything I need to be watching for? Thanks!
  2. I have made a write up covering some basics on the use and installation of relays in motorcycles. I worked in railroad signaling for 15 years and most of this time I was a signal circuit design engineer. I primarily dealt with relay based design involving signaling and highway crossing protection. During this time, I gained some knowledge concerning relays and the design of relay based circuits. The write up refers primarily with the relays used in Ventures. It does not include any information regarding the starting solenoid or flasher relays. I have included some basic information and definitions regarding relays. There are pictures of the internal workings of Venture and automotive style accessory relays that are available at various auto parts stores. Also included is some basic information involved in wiring and fuse size selection. I have included examples of several practical applications of relays involving Ventures including: Driving lamp addition Passing Lamp addition for RSV’s Headlight cut-out when starting for RSV’s Air horn addition Ignition switch bypass modification for RSV’s To open the PDF file, click on file name shown in blue below. 3. Hello to all, Just picked up a 2001 RSV and would like to swap out a couple of parts that are on the scoot: 1) It presently has fish tail exhaust system - would like to go back to a stock pipe. Anyone have a set? 2) There is a Corbin seat on the bike - would like to also go back to a stock seat, both rider and pass. Anyone have stock seats? Willing to trade, purchase, etc... More information upon request. Please PM me, and I guess we can go from there. Thanks as always for the time. Till next time, ride safe. Ricardo.

    Carb Sync

Well, i'm looking at my 08 Venture with 5k miles on it and saying it's to soon for a carb sync, it doesn't seem to run bad. But i'm going on a trip in a few weeks and it would be nice to at least check it. So i call around the local Stealers and they want $125 and up to perform this operation. Some told me I have to leave it overnight. It was then I decided I would buy the tool and attempt to do it myself. When the carb tool arrived, I read the instructions ( imagine that ) assembled the unit with all the hoses and was ready to go. I next asked for help from this forum, the information a got was very descriptive and made the job soooooo easy. The pictures and explanation was right on the money. The only way it could have been easier is if one of you came to my house and made the adjustments for me! This is a wealth of knowledge on this sight and i'm proud to be a part of it. Well it turnes out, my carbs were way out of sync. 1&2 werent even close and both banks were out from each other. I never would have thought a new bike with 5k on it needed a carb sync. I thought this thing ran great before, now it's a freekin rocket!! I want to thank you guys again for all the great information that enabled me to do this carb sync myself. I saved a bunch of money, I now own the tool, and the knowledge to do it myself!! Have a safe summer, and thanks again. Frank
  5. Question: Who has the Information on the Car solinoid that is supposed to be a replacement ( other then mounting ) for the 1st gen??? I believe it was some Japanese small car. Anybody have that information handy ?? Thenks
  6. I weigh 175 and my wife weighs 150 (don't tell her I told you). I have never adjusted my rear shocks since I bought my '05 and am wondering where I can find a chart that will tell me how many PSI I should be carrying for that weight. Can anyone tell me where to find some information. Le Roy and Gini
  7. I am a new member and would like to thank everyone for all the great information provided. I have an 87 with about 47k miles that I purchased new. Although, I am not a mechanic, I have always done all maintenance on the bike except for a valve adjustment done at 30k. The only repair it ever needed was a starter gear train replacement that I did myself. A couple of months ago, after sitting for a couple of months, the bike would only run with the choke on. Relying on info from the forums, I tried the Seafoam treatment with no luck so I removed and cleaned the carbs. After this, the bike runs without the choke but cylinder #4 won’t run. So far I have synced the carbs, changed the air and fuel filters, changed the spark plugs and switched cylinder 2 and 4 plugs, measured the carb fuel level, checked for vacuum leaks as best I could, tried adjusting the idle mixture screw and removed the carb vent hose. I have also switched the diaphragm and slide assembly between #3 and 4 carbs with no change. (I don’t know if this is recommended but I wanted to try it before buying a diaphragm) The cylinder will run if carb cleaner is sprayed directly into the carburetor. I am not completely sure this problem didn’t exist prior to working on the carbs. So, I am looking for other tests or possible fixes I can try. If I have to remove and disassemble the carbs again, where should I focus my attention? The bike has been trouble free for 22 years so I don’t have much experience in these matters. Thanks for any help provided.
  8. As most of you know calling 911 from your cell phone gets routed to the CHP in Vallejo. You may be able to save valuable time by calling the local emergency number in your area. the most current list is (hopefully) attached, and/or you could go to www.getice.com for that information. Looks like a "rainy day" project to store some of those numbers on the cell phone - heehee.
  9. Here is an article that appeared in the local newspaper this morning. Somewhat interesting and most of us already know this information. http://www.nwherald.com/articles/2009/06/15/r_m5nmdp5tq2qo9rsvtrgq/index.xml BOO
  10. Jury Duty Scam DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING ! Pass this on. This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen. The=2 0fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. Check it out here: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/june06/jury_scams060206.htm And he re: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp Yep! It's true
  11. First I would like to thank everyone for all the help on the few posts I have made. It is really great to have such a wealth of knowledge here.. So Thank you.. Now that I have sucked up a little, has anyone ever mounted an EZ-Pass in the front fairing? If so, did it work? I would like to hide it in the fairing so it is not visible. I look forward to all the great information on this topic.. See a bit more sucking up... I Ok, where ever this little guy came from I just love it!! hehe
  12. I have my Computer "information display" out for re soldering and I am photographing steps so others can understand this one better. I had only one "cold" solder joint and it in fact did not look cold to me but what happens when you run too much current through a incomplete joint. I am sure that it's the one for the headlight low beam, but would like to confirm it. Does anyone have a pinout of what pin is for what on the unit? The one pin that needed to be re-soldered was all the way to the edge of the connector.
  13. I am about to break into the carbs and change my diaphraghms. while I was in there I was going to adjust the needles and do the 1st gen Mk1 version of changing the spacer. I need to know a couple of things. Which way do I adjust the needles? In or out? Second everyone mentions to adjust he mixture screws to 2.5 turns Where are the mixture screws and 2.5 turns from bottomed out or completely loose? Does anyone have detailed information about the carbs? a full step by step details on adjustment? The factory service manual in the tech section has no information at all on carb adjustment or even needle adjustment. only disassembly and rebuild. Thanks!

  15. I am working on a list of everyones favorite roads to travel and places to go and eat. I would be very greatfull of any information on your favorite path and destination and the quality of service and food at your favorite spot. my plan is to compile this list and share it with the group at a later date, and credit those that wish credit and any comments that they wish to share, along with names and what they ride. please remember to give state/city/address/ and phone# of locations. I would like the information sent to an e-mail address away from the site only to avoid getting off the path of information and starting other subjects. ************** http://www.greatroads@yahoo.com ******************* THANK YOU in advance for your input Mike & cherie _________________ RIDE SAFE, RIDE OFTEN..MIKE www.royalstarventure03@yahoo.com

  17. Does anyone know how many RSV's are sold each year? I have looked ever where possible and it just doesn't seem like this information is out there.. I have also been looking for 0-60mph times and speeds along with 1/4 mile info. Any information would be great. Thanks JM:12101:
  18. I have completed a trade for my 05 Venture and picked up my new to me 03 Fully loaded BMW K1200LTC. The bike is pacific blue and has anything and everything I could want on it. The new owner of my bike was given the information regarding this site and hopefully will register an gleen a wealth of information from all of you. If my memory serves me right he is a former roadstar owner and is familiar with Yamaha's in general. We met in Susanville at the Black Bear diner, had lunch and swapped pink slips, keys and headed home. His name is Randy Thomas so if you see him come on give him a warm welcome and please don't treat him the way you did me. Unlike me, he is a really nice guy! The BMW handles like a dream and I actually like the slow speed handling of it better than the RSV. The seating and handlebar positions will take some getting used to. There are alot of gadgets onboard to figure out too. I will post pictures soon! :ice_thy-vi101212101Jack - Thanks for the lead on the bike. It took us several months to get to today due to weather and schedules but it is a done deal. I will keep sticking my head in from time to time, I know M lurks here all the time. To be honest I haven't been hanging out on any sites of late other than duck hunting and dog training sites since I have recently purchased a male chocolate lab that has just finished his first stint of waterfowl training and is due to go back mid May for the final 3 months of training. I will be hunting him in the upcoming season.
  19. I am thinking about getting a luggage rack for the Venture and was wondering how many of you have one and how you like it? Also opinions on which one is the best to get. I'm just looking for general information, cost, how much weight it will carry etc. Thanks.
  20. Don't these scammers ever give up? Been a while since receiving anything from these thieves but got this today. Goes to show they're persistant if nothing else. Be safe folks, Larry After waiting to hear from you or your Nigeria partners for a long time now. I decided to make this direct approach to you in other not to let it be as if I have anything in mind against you. I do not know if you have asked yourself why each time the release of this fund is approved, all of sudden, the payment will be stopped or one problem or the other will come up. If you have not asked this question or you do not know, this is an opportunity for me to tell you. Your names were used as a beneficiary of a monetary transaction. A long time ago, some Nigerian government officials approached me through my dear wife who works with the Federal Ministry of Finance and asked me to assist them conclude a monetary transaction they had with you, they requested me to assist them by removing the original name, company's name and the bank particulars from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) vetting and replacing them with your name and your bank details in order to make you appear as the rightful beneficiary of the fund. I agreed on condition that they would pay me US$300,000 as soon as your name appears as the beneficiary. I did as agreed and demanded to be paid but these fellows started giving me excuses. They even told me that you promised to send money to me, do you know that up till now, I have not received a single cent from them and have not set my eyes on any of them again. Based on what they did, I decided to stop the release of this fund Because I cannot be denied my right in my own office considering the risk as it might affect my job. Secondly, I knew the source of the fund that you did not in anyway have any monetary transactions in Nigeria, Although I am the only person privileged to know this information and it is a fact. Why I am making this clear to you is that I can see that you are oblivious of the whole thing they only used your particulars to carry out this transaction. Now that I have frustrated their evil plan; I mean to get this fund in your name for their own use without your knowledge. I want to use this medium to approach you to stand as the rightful beneficiary of this fund since everything was done in your name which no one can alter or mutilate any more. To this effect, I do not need the US$300,000 any longer from you but a good compensation that you think is suitable for me which my spouse will retrieve for me as soon as the fund is transferred into your account. One more thing, I need your assurance that my colleagues in the office will be totally kept out of this transaction. I know quite well that none of them is aware of my new approach to you. Kindly contact me on my private Email Address: ( drtundelemo229@gmail.com ) so that I could give you more information. Best regards. Dr. Tunde Lemo. 21. I am trying to install a CB on my 83 Venture. Ebay has a head unit, but it does not include wiring and mic. I am trying to locate whatever I need to install a CB on a bike that does not have one now. Thank you for any information you may give me. AL
  22. I was just doing some research on Driveing, and Fog Lamps. I stumbled on this web site, which has some very good basic Information concerning Light Bulbs. May be of Interest: As refference material. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html
  23. This web address , courtesy of " Motorcycle consumer News " whoever that is. Has a long boreing 5 or 6 page article on " MotorCycle Battery Maintenance " ( I know everybody is interested in that subject ) Maby more information then the average guy even Wants To Know about the care and feeding of your Motorcycle Battery. But , if your interested, its a good read. http://www.mcnews.com/mcnews/articles/battery.htm It has a good rundown on the use of a " Hydrometer " to test each Cell. !!!
  24. I have been avoiding signing up for pay pal due to concerns about security of my information. Upon reflection, perhaps I am more at risk in providing my credit card information each time I make a purchase. Just wondering what you all think about the "Pay Pal" transaction process...any negatives that you have encountered? Appreciate the feedback.
  25. The bolt that holds the heel-toe shifter on my '06 RSTD rattled off and has been lost. Thanks to V7Goose, I got it field fixed using the spare bolt on the left hand fuse box cover. However, I want to replace it with an official bolt. I called the dealership today, who could not tell me what sort of bolt I should buy. Is it chromed? How long is it? The PDF I have of the service manual shows that it has a hex head and integrated washer, but doesn't really give me any other information. Does someone have information on this bolt? A description and a torque value would be handy.
