2. Yes , I do get shunked, I like to share some photos I took , Im usually on the Lake around 6 am These few days we have had some very warm weather A record breaking weather plus 10C (50F) where it should be in the minus at this time of Photo 1 & 2 .......Just because you have a 4X4 it doesn't mean that you can go everywhere even with a Plow Photo 3.............Early sunrise Photo 4 & 5 ...... The Ice is starting to crystal when this happens You better remove your ice hut soon the lake will be one big swimming pool Photos 6 &7 .....It was a very clear day and I wanted to see if I could capture the jet going over with my digital zoom
3. After school me and a friend tried moving all of the ice off of my street so i can get the bike out. Well after having dad's other cop over to help, he decided to park in the middle of the street and drip fresh ice right on it! Haha, oh i love life I also have to get up at 4 this morning :97:to sand, bath at 6, school at 7, work at 5, more sanding at 10. It should be a good day tomorrow!
4. A friend took this out on the interstate the other day. I wasn't even 30 degrees and there were patches of ice under the bridges!
5. Well, I usually smile smugly when some folks start talking about having to put their bike up for the season - here in Texas, even North Texas, our winters are generally mild enough to ride all year long. But today is going to be an exception . . . Had a record snowfall yesterday - beat all records going back 111 years - between 9-14 inches in the DFW area. Officially they reported 12.5" at the airport, which is fairly close to my place. The good news is that we don't have much ice with it since the temps have stayed right around freezing. Lots of slush, and tonight looks like it is going to get down in the 20s, so tomorrow morning will be a bit dicey! Goose (Man, this global warming is TOUGH!)
6. In 1885 in Kingston; there was a group of British soldiers that were bored and decided to play a sort of hockey that we use today. That's how hockey was invented. Hockey wasn't invented by on specific person or group. hockey is played with a stick. for hockey However, it is generally accepted that Scottish settlers were the first to play it in Nova Scotia in the late 1700s. At this time there was mass emmigration into Canada of people from the Highlands of Scotland who imported many of their traditions, culture and pastimes. Ice Hockey became a Winter version of a game known as Shinty which has been played in the Highlands of Scotland for centuries. There are many similarities, most notably the stick or caman. The word 'puck' is also derived from old Scots, meaning to hit. There is also an unofficial game still played in Canada which is known as Shinny, a name derived from Shinty. There is also a claim that Hockey is a relation of Hurling which started in Ireland as the sport of Hurley. However, the conncetions are tenuous as mass emigration to Canada form Ireland did not occur until the mid to late nineteenth century. The equipment also differs considerably. Of course, there are other stories. Some say the MicMac indians played a form of hockey in Nova Scotia when the Europeans arrived. In Windsor, Nova Scotia, there is a school called Kings View Academy. A teacher there supposedly took his students out to the pond behind their school and asked them to make up a sport. The game they played became hockey.Another interesting story says that ice hockey was first played in 1885 by British soldiers stationed in Canada. Guards who were guarding the Parliament building in Canada used to sneak off to a nearby field and play ice hockey. Some say they started by whacking rocks with a stick to stay warm. Two towns claim that the first game of hockey was played there. The first is Kingston, Ontario, and the second is a small town in New Brunswick, both of which are in Canada. It is generally accepted that the current rules for hockey evolved from students at McGill University in Montreal ("the McGill Rules") in 1875. Around 1920 the NHL was formed by Canada. It grew. Rules evolved. For example in the 1920's you were aloud to pass forward.
7. I thought this crap didn't happen in Texas. Of course everything's BIGGER in Texas so we can't just get snow that you can drive on, it had to rain all night first and then sleet for 4 hours so there's a 1/2 inch of solid ice on everything!! We're supposed to end up with 12-18" of snow.
8. any one used this, have had to replace water pumps on three of my veh this last yr
9. Headed out of the house this morning to get on my trusty steel steed to head to work and didn't notice a small ice patch on the driveway (still dark - 0430) as I punched in the code to open the garage door. Started the bike to let it warm up while I put my riding gear on. Hoped on the bike and started backing out of the garage and just as I was making the turn to point it toward the road, my left foot hit that small patch of ice. Down I went. Did the splits. Layed the bike down on the engine guard and bag guard. I finally got the bike back up and the kickstand under it and looked it over. No damage, the only thing that was hurt was my feelings. Another lesson learned. Glenn
10. The city just changed thousands of traffic signals to nice energy efficient LEDs. Now that we have had our first real snow of the season, it was determined that the nice efficient LEDs run so very nice and cool that they can not melt the snow and ice off of the lens. So now there are nice "efficient" diesel trucks and crews running around with ice scrapers attached to long poles to scrape all of the snow and ice off of the thousands of traffic lights. There have been several accidents already because the traffic lights can NOT be seen. I wonder if they are saving enough on electricity and longer bulb life to pay for the trucks and crews to be running around cleaning the lights?????
11. Now this how we go ice fishing in Ontario, eh! Ya gotta find them first. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x768VAsOQSw]YouTube- Canadian Ice Fishing Crazy Canucks[/ame]
12. Tina and I are headed to springville on saturday to look at a motorhome and we were wondering if anyone in the area could recommend a good restaurant where maybe we could have a small meet and eat. I know that there are people in the area that LOVE to eat. (especially ice cream) any takers ? I know I said the magic words so no stampedes please. Thanks Mike
13. It was a gorgeous day here today, went to mid 40s f and sunny so I decided I would go for a nice ride around the parks. Wascana Lake is just starting to freeze over and the birds all seem to be gathering at the edge of the ice, too bad I was in a game preserve, coulda reached out and snagged these geese, they were so unconcerned about people. http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/Nov282009 Brian:banana:
14. Here in Amarillo, we have a nice coating of ice other everything. yippie.....

16. Recently we took the best trip I have ever had. We road down to Tennessee and took two weeks to ride home. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=384695#post384695]http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=384695#post384695[/ame] We road through 10 States and 1 province and we stopped in each. In each location I had to order ice cream and test the consistency of the flavours. It was a three way tie for the best part of the trip: Breath taking scenery, 2. Unbelievable windy mountain roads 3. All the ice cream I ate. (My wife thought I lost it) BIG TOM we haven’t met but you’re a smart man and I like your style. Unfortunately I have to diet now that I am back to work, but man it was worth it.
17. Brenda and I have experimented with various cups and drink containers with somewhat disappointing results. I hate it when the water in my bottle is as hot as I am. I want it cool. And, I don't like the "sippy cup" style of containers because I want to drink and drive. Losing sight of the road when I tilt my head back to drink is not the excitement I'm looking for. We have found a Thermos with a straw that will hold ice for 24 hours! The straw lets me drink without losing sight of the road. The flip-top is a one hand operation. I always finish the 18 oz in the Thermos before the ice is gone - have found ice still in the Thermos after 24 hours! It is a Thermos Intak Steel Hydro bottle and is available online or at Target for $21.95 Check out a picture on my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2219859&id=639519006 Lynn http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2219859&id=639519006
18. I am going to be pulling a trailer with cooler on the front. I was wondering if a coolatron would be OK. I don't know the power requirements for the coolatron and I don't know if the stator would be up to the task. So does anyone here know if this would work or should I just keep buying ice? Wayne
19. Just got a 1st gen venture 1988 with good dunlops 491s and hard air in shocks and tracks good in cornners and straight yet hit a small road crack and for a second feel like skating on ice.....where should I look? I have a 1989 also and on same roads rock steady.
20. We are supposed to be getting .10 to .25 of sleet and ice tonight. THat will shut down the entire town!!! Call out the state guard and roll up the roadways. Call Washington for disaster relief. People around here can't drive in the rain let alone snow or ice. You watch, people will DIE tonight and tomorrow. Sad but true. Tom in Blanco will be getting his share about 9pm. San Antonio is supposed to get it by midnight. Jo
21. Since getting the RSV at thanksgiving the wife and I have been trying really hard to catch one good day to put a few miles on it. Well, today the temp was in the low 60's but kinda hazy and everything is wet. We hit a couple of places on the road that looked really smooth, and slick. When I hit these areas the bike felt like I was riding on ice. I knew I needed to replace the front tire but now I'm thinking I need to put new rubber on the back to. I'm talking, it felt REALLY SQUIRRLY!!!! From most of what I've read on here, the Avon Venoms are the recommended tire. How about wear? What kind of mileage can I expect to get out of the rear? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
22. A buddy and I left Tehachapi for Kernville on a mild 50 degree day yesterday. We were on the lower creek road thru Caliente to avoid the ice on the higher mountain road called the Lions Tail. We came to a corner in the shadow of trees, when I saw the ice completely across the road. I was able to slow the bike, but as soon as I hit the ice, I went down. My buddy said I went down very gracefully...the bike and I slid about a hundred feet, on the ice. Not a scratch on me! No worn spots on my leathers and the only parts damaged on the bike was the front and rear crash bars. Both are ground down about 1/2 to 3/4 thru. They did the job they were supposed to do. Oh yea, the front lower shroud separated at the bottom when the crash bar bent rearward. It really was a E ticket ride sliding on the ice like that. A car full of kids stopped to watch us trying to pick the bike up on the ice, but did not try to help...I suppose just as well. It had to be quite a site! We ran into several other spots of black ice in the canyons, which really surprised me when it was so warm, but the locals were telling us that the winds which blow in the mornings helps to keep the ice in the shadows till early afternoon. Coming back late in the afternoon, we ran into freezing fog and wet roads, but thankfully no black ice. I gotta tell you though, we kept our speed low going into that canyon again.
23. I seen some interesting Ice fishing equipment. Talk about an alternative to a high speed bass boat.:whistling:
24. eaten? Had a fancy, shmancey cocktail party we had to go to last week, and they served ostrich on a tiny peice of bread with a sauteed mushroom and some sauce on it. That was a first for me. Anyway...it got me to thinking about all the strange food I've had to try in my life. Rocky Mountain Oysters: (Tasted great till I found out what they were and promplty threw up) Alligator: (Wasn't bad, but once was enough) Rattlesnake: (Gave me the heeby jeebies)(Did I mention I'm scared to death of snakes?) Buffalo: (Pretty good, but I started pawing the ground and snorting afterwards) Venison: (The only way to eat it is if it's cooked hot and fast) Calamari: (Tastes like a rubber tire) Crayfish:(Had to eat it in Louisiana at a crayfish boil where you have to pull off the head and suck the brains out. A lot of ice cold Corona helped. Sorry, but you canjuns have a wierd sense of humor!) Pickled Pigs Feet: (When I was a little girl, my dad and I used to sit at the kitchen table with a jar of it and a quart of buttermilk. I think we did it just to make my mom sick watching us eat it. Good memories.) Sushi: (Apparently you have to aquire a taste for it. Not my cup of tea.) Anyway, that's all I can think of now. So, what's the weirdes thing you've ever been brave enough to eat?
25. got this in a email and wanted to share. http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc340/MARKANDBINA/untitled.jpg
