  1. OK, I'm looking to figure out what exactly I would need in order to take advantage of the intercom on the 89 Venture. The bike does not come with helmets, headsets or any wires or cables so I have to start from ground zero. Where do I begin? Thanks
  2. Would like to know if anybody has these headsets? Tried to make my own out of plain headsets for phones or pc. But could not get the mic to work. Speakers worked fine but could only get a feedback sound on the intercom part if turned up to much. The ones I bought was a little tight with my half helmet on. Would like know if these fit?
  3. Hey guys, new member here. Love the site. I am having a problem with my intercom system that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have an 08 RSV. I recently bought J&M headsets for the factory intercom system but I am getting an annoying buzzing sound that changes with engine rpm. I had the same problem with Chatterbox headsets. I thought the high-priced J&M's would fix the problem but they didn't. The J&M guys at Bike Week said there is something wrong with the bike. My dealer could not fix the problem. I tried ferrite chokes but that didn't work. I took off my battery tender thinking I had a short but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
  4. I have an '09 RSV and I can hear what sounds like ignition interference in the headsets. Also, the CB goes ito the receive mode when I blow the horn and sometimes without the horn blowing and no one talking to me. This creates a loud static noise in the headsets. Does anyone else have this problem?
  5. I just purchased these [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Multi-Interphone-headsets/dp/B001SUZNGW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1242399404&sr=8-4]Bluetooth Headsets[/ame] and will be installing them into my new GMAX helmets. These appear to be fairly new on the market, could only find a couple reviews. I am going to be using them extensively over the next couple weeks, should be able to post a review in early June. We needed new headsets, ours are old and don't work well anymore. I also wanted to lose the wires. There is a huge range of prices on the bluetooth sets....most are above what I'm willing to pay. These are about the same price as lower-end wired units. I'm just hoping that they work as advertised and as the minimal reviews stated. I'll let you know! Joe
  6. Anyone have any suggestions on a good website for headsets, I know they cost money, but the price I've been seeing looks a tad high...and I want to hold on to as much of my cash as I can, Thanks
  7. Hey everyone. Great forum! I'm shopping for headsets for my wife and I. I've been looking at the J&M 279's (we both have modulars. I've also been intrigued by the bluetooth headsets. I love the idea of being able to use my phone, however, I would like to tie into the onboard system as well. I ride solo a lot on several different bikes. Is there a bluetooth headset that also integrates with the onboard intercom and my wifes hardwired heaset? Thanks!
  8. I got my Chatterbox headsets in my helmets but I can't get the intercom to work . I get audio from the radio but when I push either push to talk buttons, Nothing happens. Can anyone tell me what I should look at?
  9. I have a Shoei RF1000 full face helmet that I want to install the J&M 279ff headsets into. My problem is how to install the mic. The front liner doen't look like it comes out. Anyone ever install a headset in this helmet? Thanks for any help.
  10. On my '89 VR I want to replace the radio with an after market model. It is the Jensen model HD5112. I want to hook it up to play thru the speakers and also the headsets. Any ideas? Should I cut off the 5 pin wire from the factory radio and splice it to the aftermarket one and play it thru the amp? Will this get the sound thru the headsets? This radio has inputs for MP3, wma, USB, SD Card, ipod and sat. radio. I really want to use this radio. Any help will be appreciated. Chuckles
  11. I am looking at 2 headsets the J&M H58154 of/ff and the IMC HSG35u/HSG15. Both inexpensive headsets. One for 3/4 and one for full face helmet. I do limited 2-up but its nice to have when I do. They are both about the same price so was wondering if any one has an opinion either way on which to get. Thanks. Bill
  12. I was wandering if I could get some feedback about how to eliminate background noise such as engine whine and wind noise in my headsets? It seems like the noise at times is worst than others. I have read earlier about some riders using the product made by Mic-Mutes. Is this the best thing to use or is there other things I might need to do? Thanks:mustache:
  13. I hope some of you can help me pinpoint a problem I have with my audio system on my Venture. On a long ride to Yosemite while listening to the radio suddenly the sound would fade away when I was increasing speed and as soon I would let go of the throttle it would return. This problem has since continued. So when I take off it drops the sound as I go through the gears, once I am at cruising speed it is fine since I do not move the trottle much. ****ting down does not affect it. Interesting enough it does not happen to the speakers - only to my headsets. I have tried two different headsets and both have same issue so I assume that it is not the headsets. Also it does it in aux (GPS) and radio. Have not tried the cassette yet. Anyway, any idea what the issue is and how it can be fixed. Appreciate it. Thanks.
  14. This is probably not the right place to post this but I am not sure where it would best fit......So here it goes... I have a friend who decided to mix brands (bad idea). Anyhow, he ended up with a Starcom integrator and 5 pin mini-din headsets , a Zumo550 and a J&M 2003 CB . All great components BUT!...... The J&M has 6 pin dins and requires amplified mike..... His headsets are dynamic mini 5pin Dins. What's needed is a transition adaptor!!! Both manufacturers are less than helpfull....Do any of you have experience with this or a source?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. The posts on this site seem to lean towards the J&M headsets and additionally that the least expensive ones work quite well. I wanted to but an inexpensive set due to limited two up riding. Asked the vendor for the JM-HS-8154 -FF for my wife's full face HJC helmet and the and the JM-HS-8154 -OF for me. Vendor responded that the mic on the open face was not long enough to reach the mouth?? Anyone using the JM-HS-8154 -OF model? Any feedback on performance?
  16. I have the headsets from Yamaha. I know they are from JM but the sound quality is pretty poor. The only way I can hear the CB is to leave it on speaker. My wife is really getting tired of me asking her to repeat what she has said as the sound is distorted. Is there a better set of helmet speakers available that I can replace the ones that came with the set?
  17. I just purchased 2 sets of IMC headsets / mic. When I plug the passanger set in no problem the intercom and speakers sound great. The primary sat however, there is a squelch that would wake the dead. THe noise begins the instant I plug the cord in. I have tried all combinations of cords and headsets. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  18. Last weekend, me and my best friend took a 900 mile trip to Texoma and back. Me on my RSV and him on his Valkyrie. Our wives, who weren't too keen on making the trip on the bikes took my Taurus. Anyways, we setup CBs for both his bike ( a little hand-held motorola with a headset) and the Taurus (little cheapo Cobra with a magnet mount antenna). Prior to the trip we tested both of my headsets, a J&M and a Chatterbox. On both headsets we noted that I was coming through real quiet like. Didn't think much of it till we actaully got on the road, in which case the girls could hear and understand me (barely) but he couldn't very well... Now, planning for furture rides, I am curious as to whether their is anyway I can increase the gain on the mic...don't know of one in the settings, but is there a turn pot somewhere I can tweak? As an appeasement to the CB gods, I have included 2 shots of us headed home. One runnin' down US77 and the other runnin' down TX22 about to cross over Whitney Lake Dam...
  19. I plan on purchasing a set of headsets this year....I use a half helmet. Which headset seems to be the best quality and reliable? Thanks for your input. randy
  20. hi all just got this in today from wingstuff  http://www.wingstuff.com/codebase/data/magick_cache/0cae441cc683bacb24ff22d5e5cb44b9.gif i hooked them up in my wife's and my helmets today and the question is this we have a clicking in the speakers (headsets) it sounds like a spark click what do y'all think it is thanks George C
  21. Me and Mrs went for a ride tonight and found out that my headsets, will receive the radio but will not transmit our voices, any ideas , can't see any loose wires!
  22. Had a old J&M headsets laying around. I cut the wires going to the helmet speakers and installed a female stereo audio jack, which hangs outside the helmet. I plug in my earbuds and jam them into my ears. Hook up my MP3 player into my audio system on the bike. Turn the audio system to headsets (HS) and hear nothing but classic rock and the rumbling of my V4 coming out of my baffleless HD Road King pipes. Man the sound is great and it makes you wonder how great this bike would be without the CHIRP. The sound quality of the CB is a lot better too.
  23. Well, finally today the J&M CB Solo radio show up. I plan to install it on the RS96. Now, I have the J&M headset too but it seems that I need to replace the lower cable from the 5 pins to the 6 pins for this radio (I use the 5 pins with the VR 84). Did someone here has used the same headsets with different lower cable? the manual is talking about some special models, but I really can't find wich model are my headsets. I know that I bought it two years ago, and comes in a sale from a goldwing dealer, and it works perfect on the VR. So, every update on this will be highly appretiated. :detective: :stirthepot:
  24. Not sure what my problem is, but I really can't hear much from the headsets on the highway...stereo or CB. I hear something but is usually so garbled I can't tell. I am better off to use the built in speakers on the dash to hear anything. Is this because of the headsets or what? I just bought the bike recently, and it doesn't matter what set I use the results are the same. By the way, I can hear music/CB when just sitting or even when bike is idling, but it seems to real tinny. Would it be worth my while to wire in a new pair of earphones from say a radio or tapeplayer or such? Thanks.
  25. Okay, Zumo 550 says it can talk to Bluetooth cell phones and headsets. My cell phone is compatible. Just purchased new headsets connected to factory intercom. Also, the audio out from the Zumo simply plugs into the Aux port of the cass player. How do I get the corded headset mic to talk into the mic port of the Zumo?
