After setting the 2nd gen gear set in the 83 engine bottom half, I realized that there was an alignment problem. After I aligned everything, I believe that two of the three forks are exactly where they need to be. the problem is the one that controls 1st and 3rd gear. Yamaha increased the width of the teeth on that gear slide and with the slide not engaged, it made the 1st gear dogs too close and the 3rd gear dogs too far away. The next step would be to get the correct fork and see if that solved the problem. But that was a problem in itself. According to two different dealers, there was not a new fork available anywhere in the US and the only place to get one was Japan. I then went online and checked with any salvage yards and anywhere else that might have a 2nd gen engine that was being parted out. I had just about given up when my son Brian, who had just stopped by, suggested I check my paypal history in trying to find where I had bought the 2nd gen gear set . Not only did I find the purchase, which was Feb 24, 2010, but the purchase had a phone number listed. I called it and not only did I get an answer, but he told me where to look and the forks and tumbler were still available on an ebay - buy it now listing, where I rarely look. The price was $25 with about $12 for shipping and I have already purchased and paid for it. So, now I am in great anticipation on this being a viable option, not only for solving the 83/85 trans problem, but for any 1st genner that wants to upgrade their trans to the slightly wider spaced gearing that the 2nd gens have. For those interested, I will keep you upgraded on how this progresses. RandyA

Carl, I saw in another thread you weren't comfy on the first Gen. due to long legs/over 6' tall Would a set of pegs like this help. They are strong, a lot better than the engine guard mounted ones. Last picture is for reference of bike with knee air deflectors still on. Gary

Ok....I bought a lift for my '84 yesterday, and other projects, and have been looking at the clearance issue with the pipes. In reading the older threads the general acceptable idea was to simpley lift it by the pipes. Yeah I know, tough stuff, double wall and all that but looking for a better idea. And hockey pucks are NOT in the game plan. In talking with Dano he's onto the same idea I'm looking at as I want it to be one piece and able to slip it under from the front and line up with both frame rails so a "U" shape is interesting. So you 2nd Gen guys have Carbon One and his adaptor........... So any 1st Gen guys out there with a design idea or an adaptor you made? Thanks Mike

I got my march issue of Rider magazine today. There is a cool article about a 2 nd gen Hannigan trike conversion kit on the market. Anyone see it? https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/7c1va5VVTjjSavaahbHAzqb9susT2h0AJYuuY-fx9pw?feat=directlink

Is there an adapter that mates a firestickII antenna to the stock 1st gen set up. The firestick antennas have a male stud attachment and so does the antenna mount on the bike........I dont want to do the marshal mod but would love to fix my stock setup. Either that or find a new to me antenna . The top part of mine broke off just above the large round pice where you do the adjustments for the cb section. Thanks in advance David

Maybe help with room for Boost system?? 83 cams 7 Heads v/s V-Max cams & heads?? Garage to do this in!! (I am getting there!!) What would you want for dream 1st Gen?? I already have fastest Venture around:whistling: Got nothing else to do at 3AM.

Do you think these will work with the 2nd gen? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/121/35014/ITEM/Avon-Grips-Heated-Air-Cushioned-Metric-Cruiser-Grips.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch

Hi, Has anyone done something similar to this, with a first gen venture? As I understand it, the bike leans despite the sidecar, thanks to a pivoting linkage, beneath the bike. The height offset in the front and rear sidecar linkage pivot points, causes the side car wheel to steer into turns in either direction. Ingenious. Common s/c setup? Any one done similar with a first gen venture? I don't own a sidecar, yet, but the dogs are looking more like sidecar passengers than pillion. Thoughts, experiences? Thanks, Brian H.

When I look at that bike, it sure does seem to make my 28 year old 1st gen look contempory. RandyA

...are the shims the same between the first and second generation engines? I need a 265 shim for a first gen, if anyone has one in country.

When I bought my 2nd Gen the PO gave me an extra front tire. He changed it out before he headed out for a 2000 mile trip on the bike. It looks like it as about 2/3 tread left and is in great shape. I just want to get it out of my garage. I really don't want to try to ship it, but if anybody's close, they can have it. Just let me know.

I'm considering adding a sidecar to my 2004 RSV so my son can ride with us. Does anyone have experience with sidecars and a 2nd gen RSV. If someone has pictures that would be great. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

I am working on a detailed description with drawings on the inner workings of the Anti Dive system and need some help. I have all the spare parts I need except for the inner fork tube. I could use some help from someone that has a disassembled 1st gen fork that could get me some measurements of the tube and maybe a couple of pictures. A partially completed drawing I am working on is shown below. I have even taken a spare outer tube I had and cut it open to get a better view of the cross section.
