  1. I've had a lot of members calling me and telling me that they are comming to my rally this year and that is great...but, members are not signing up on the calendar...if you are attending or think you are attending , please sign up so I can get a more accurate food count.. I hate to run out of food or drinks.....also, if you are attending the train ride on Sunday please let us know so that we can get a group rate and reserve seats....Last year we had about seventy attend...this year we have only 25 or so sign up...I know this number is way off....please help me make this event another success as in past years by signing up if you plan to attend....thanks everyone....
  2. i just want to say thank you thank you thank you. as you all know i was faceing some real hard times. and im doing some what better. with the great support from to many to name here im doing a little better. its nice to know my lights and internet wont be shut off for at least 3 months with all of your help i paid in advance and my fridge is stocked with food maybe not steaks or even pork chops but its still food. cupboards have soups vegies and basic things. i did spend a few dollars for new socks and a pair of sneakers a man can wear boots just way to much sometimes they get heavy . i may not be out ridding but there is a smile on my face as i know i have a ton of of angels here watching over me. so once again my thanks and prayers go out to each and every one of you sincerly James aka oldgoat
  3. Subject: The way it was when I was a teen/I'm older than dirt LOL 'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?' 'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him 'All the food was slow.' 'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?' 'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained ! 'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the kitchen table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.' By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table. But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it : Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis , never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died. My parents never drove me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow) We didn't have a television in our house until I was 13. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. Andthere was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people. I was 16 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.' When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.. I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line. Pizzas were not delivered to our home, but milk was. All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers --my brother delivered a newspaper, six days a week. It cost 7 cents a paper, of which he got to keep 2 cents. He had to get up at 6AM every morning On Saturday , he had to collect the 42 cents from his customers. His favorite customers were the ones who gave him 50 cents and told him to keep the change. His least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day. Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive. If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren Just don't blame me if they burst out laughing. Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it? MEMORIES from a friend : My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea.. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old. How many do you remember? Head lights dimmer switches on the floor. Ignition switches on the dashboard. Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall. Real ice boxes. Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards. 5. For all you West Virginia members and riders I just finished an 800 mile, 3 day tour of the Marlington/Snow Shoe Mountain area. We followed the designated routes that are laid out and that is some beautiful country. There were six of us in all including a HD, GW, GW trike, BMW, Kawasaki, and my RSV. All bikes were flawless in the total 2000 mile trip. Met some nice folks, ate some good food in small town restaurants (no fast food) and enjoyed the temps in the 70's/low 80's in the mountains. I recommend the area to ride. Pictures may be coming. Hats off to West Virginia for making motorcycling touring inviting.
  6. Any riders from Hictory NC that tried the German Resturant there need reviews!!
  7. Now go figure, why would they do that to me????????? Yep, those kids of mine just made me Grandpa AGAIN!!!! Can you believe that? I mean, what's with them anyways,,,, I can get older all by myself, but no,,, they all think that I need all the help they can give. The particulars: The young thing was a week and and half late, so of course it had to be a girl. She wasn't too heavy, but a nice size, 9lb 13oz, so not quite ready for work yet. Born today at 1:10 pm, so was decent enough to have lunch time over and done with first, at least she's starting out with the right priorities. Food then play! Name is Aislinn, Malia, May Hodgins. Quite a handle to hang on to, hope she marries a guy with a short last name. That makes 15 grandkids total,,,, nice number, most teenagers are really nice at that age. Picture will come when available,,,, they all look the same anyways, right?
  8. Our "FALL-HUR-RAH" Rally went real good lots of good food and fun!!! Here is the photo show. http://www.photoshow.com/watch/FJ4wv9yf PHILL

  10. October 1 - 3 Benefiting Bikers fighting Breast Cancer A full weekend of relaxing and fun and food and entertainment !!! http://www.thelodgeatcopperhead.com/eventscopperhead.html
  11. Figured I'd ask now so folks can let me know if they are interested. Either way I'm going to this. Oct 23rd is the BBQ festival in Lexington NC. Had a chat with U-turn I think about doing this. Anyway I have the link added here so you can check it out. As far as I can tell we'd have to park and then ride a shuttle bus to where the festival is. They don't want vehicles parked too close. Oh and they will tow. They do have a handicap parking area that is close to the festival. Now they start at 8:30 with their opening ceremonies but the BBQ tents don't open up till 10. So I'm figuring who needs to be there for the opening stuff, we're interested in the food. Plus they have some entertainment and of course souvenirs. I've never been to this festival but I haven't been to a festival I didn't like, they all have food. So let me know if you are interested and we'll set it up as a meet and eat. Plus if anyone needs to spend the night might want to be able to make reservations now. There's links to hotels on the site. http://www.barbecuefestival.com/ Margaret
  12. Well I am at Blackjacks house at the moment as I am leaving for the sand box tomorrow. And he has been kind enough to offer me a bed for the night and a ride to the airport. Mini and I rode the 650 V star over to Newnan and had lunch with Charleene and Lewis,Wing man and Plate licker (Paula),Grey ghost and his wonderfull wife Elizabeth, and even Todd(86er) showed up for the food and company.Lewis's grandsons were there with his daughter Kelly. We had a good time and a great meal Thanks Charleene and Paula the food was great. Mini will post pics when she gets home I am sure. See ya in 59 days
  13. Laura and I just pulled in a little bit ago. It was fun being as we were ther newbies to maintenence dahy and had no idea of what to do or expect. Thanks Don and Elileen for alowing us to borrow a piece of your realestate to place pur tent. On the way home we met up with Patricia, Jrichard and one other rider.Sorry we didnt catch your name . And then today in the blue ridge parkway we met Midnite and his lovely other half. We were setting talking at a overlook to a couple that was hiking the trail on their way to Roanaoke for the night and eventually to geargia to their destination. It was mentioned that they were running a little low on food and being as we were on wheels and they were on their feet we just had to feed them. Cant stand to see someone hungry when I got food. And besides we had been eating ham sandwithes for 3 days and was just plain sick of it. They were happy and their dog was too...Good luck my friends. After that we hit the slabs to get on home and ran into rain. Thank god for dry ducks. DAvid
  14. Well folks, the time is drawing near. Eileen is placing the order for food today. As near as I can determine, we should have right at 200 people this year. Really looking forward to seeing all our old friends and meeting some new ones. Also wondering how many people might be wanting to go our for dinner on Friday night. Charlie want BBQ and there is a decent place up on 58 near Amherst. Probably about 15 miles away. I'm not sure though that they can handle a large group. Let me know who is interested and I'll call and find out.
  15. I know we all do our share for charities on here and poker runs etc... but the misses Tinystar is on the committee for raising stock at the Iowa food bank. She's asked me to mention it here to see if we can get any donations for the auction. If you have a hobby like making bird houses, knick knacks, embroidery or anything along those lines it would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me here or my wife or give me a call. Whatever is donated is tax deductable and a receipt can be sent if desired. Thanks for reading and God Bless. Ride safe. Mike
  16. All of you that live in the Tulsa area "Spring Fever" Rally this Sunday! Poker Run-Bike Show-Bike Games-50/50-Prizes and more and it is all free!!!! Did I mention Food! If you want more information E-mail me and I will send you a flyer pandlbiker@olp.net Phill
  17. Babies that is! We had the grand daughters for the past couple nights. One is 3 and the other is almost 14 months. I just couldn't help but wonder just how inefficient their eating habits are. I mean half their food ends up either on the floor, on their clothes, or all over the high chair. I wonder just how much food is wasted by babies alone each year?
  18. Yamaha North Texas on hwy I 35 in Lewisville is having their "Get Out & Ride Open House this Saturday" Just wondering if anyone from North TX is planning on going? They are advertising free rides, food etc
  19. Ya`ll might want to take a look at this.. http://specials.msn.com/A-List/HPV-Products-Recall.aspx?cp-documentid=23633953&imageindex=1
  20. Just out of curiosity... How many people in here might not like it if a restaurant put alcohol in or on your food without your knowledge? I know mos,t if not all the alcohol, would evaporate. But there would still be the flavor left behind. I'm just concerned about the alcoholics who might not want it. I know some who won't even have an N/A beer because there is still about .05% alcohol in it. And there is also some who feel that if they got a taste of it in their food might fear a relapse. Does anybody agree with my assumptions? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine just opened a Bar & Grill a couple weeks ago and one of the cooks insists on putting beer on the burgers and using it to saute the fried onions and such. I love beer... with my burger, but not on it. Thanks for any input, Bill
  21. I just got off the phone with Jeff and they finally got to TK. Now they get to wait to be taken to wherever they will get to sleep. They spent over 12 hrs waiting at the airport to find out if they were going or not. They had to sneak off to get food, because they weren't suppose to leave. Can't spend that long waiting for food, he's a venture rider member. Anyway those folks that asked what he might need I'll have to let you know when they get to check the place out. Right now he's looking forward to finding the shower and the bed. Margaret

    Free Food

I posted the following from here... http://blog.yourmoney.ca/2009/11/price-scanner-free-food.html Watch the price scanner to get your food for free Standing in the supermarket checkout line waiting for your food to scan can be as much fun as watching paint dry. But if you watch carefully and spy a scanner price error, you could score that grocery item for free. Mistakes on electronic price scans are common at the grocery store. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has found that errors occur in 1 out of every 32 regularly priced items. Errors are more common on sale items, with 1 out of 28 items being overcharged to consumers. The cost of being overcharged at the till can add up to many dollars per month per family. But in Canada, spotting a scanner error could save you up to $10 per item. The Retail Council of Canada has a Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code that states: If the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer free of charge; or If the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer a discount of $10 off the corrected price. As a consumer, all you have to do to qualify is watch as your groceries are scanned at the checkout and verify that prices are accurate. If you see an error, don’t be afraid to ask the cashier to give you the item for free. If your cashier is unaware of the policy, ask for a manager or go to the customer service desk to claim your free food. Over the years I've used the Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code to my benefit. This year alone I've claimed at least $20 in free groceries due to price scanning errors. At times I've had to explain the code to confused cashiers, but many times I've walked away with free food by just asking. Many participating supermarkets post this code at checkout, so don't be wary of asking whenever you see a mistake. Being overcharged at the till can really add up! The occasional free food item is great, but to help you keep weekly grocery costs down be sure to plan ahead with a shopping list. Download this free Printable Grocery Shopping List to help you: Save money by curbing impulse food buys. Identify healthy and frugal foods on a single master list. Save time grocery shopping. Never forget another grocery item. See the Retail Council of Canada for a list of stores that are committed to accurate scanner pricing with the Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code. Your Turn: Do you spy scanner price errors at the grocery checkout? Do you say something about it? Posted at 04:15 AM in Food and Drink, Personal Finance, Saving, Tips | Permalink
  23. I'm near Saginaw, MI tonight...actually I've been here all week. Staying in Birch Run. Tonight I drove over to Frankenmuth and had dinner at the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn. The food was pretty good but I've got to tell you, I left enough food on the table to feed at least one or two more people. Those people just keep on bringing food.....geeezzzz.....enough already.

  25. Except for the standard TOOLS that come with a RSV 2nd Gen, what are some other tools to take on a long road trip? I'm about to embark upon a 2500 mile trip and want to make sure I consider the lessons of others. Let's create a list for other to use. I'll put all the ideas in a final post after this thread has been up for a while. This is only for NON FOOD AND WATER items. (Rain gear is not a tool ) What else is recommended? - I'm taking a mini compressor, slime, and tire plug kit.
