  1. Ok, I am flying down this week to pick up my first, VENTURE! It's a 2000 Millenium edition, with the tan leather seats.........gorgeous. So, I'm planning to depart S/W LA early Friday morning and well, see how far I can/want to ride on the first day. -My previous longest day was 500 miles, on my recently sold 2001 Vstar 1100. I need to be back in NE Illinois by about, 4pm on Sat. night. So, I have two days but I'm thinking, one day would be cool. Is riding 1000 miles in one day, worth the attempt on these machines? I'm thinking, cruise control will be a big help. Not to mention, a stereo! Have my mp3 and fm transmitter ready to pack. Any recommendations on what essentials/tools or similar that I should have with me and that the airlines will allow? Anyway, I'm really excited about my "new" ride and can't wait to put some of my miles on her. Cheers! Erich
  2. Wednesday was a perfect 78 degress here in Louisville, KY and beautiful, Deb and I took a vacation day and played hookie. The Kid was in school, all the riding buddies were working so we had a little motorcycle date day. It was very nice. We only put about 150 miles on em, as were stopping often and just hanging out. Here are a few pics and scenes from the day, thanks for indulging my photo habit! http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080424_22.jpg?t=1209251180 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080424_33.jpg?t=1209251204 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080424_43.jpg?t=1209251225 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080425_9.jpg?t=1209251727 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080425_31.jpg?t=1209251754 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff242/stratocurtster/20080424_9.jpg?t=1209251787 All the best one's of course inlcude my beautiful bride

  4. Well...I went out this morning to ride to work...get on the mike thinking that it needs to be washed (to busy riding) and as I am getting ready to fire her up....I feel something give and over she goes...a controlled decent! My kickstand broke! Both the bolt and the kickstand itself! What miserable thing to happen at the being in the day!!! So now I am on a hunt for a kickstand...anyone got one that will look good on a fast, red 84???
  5. Anyone form the Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery area going to Freebirds for Maintainence Day, and want to ride up together. After leaving Atlanta area will be heading up to NC to hook up with Muffinman and that crew to ride up............
  6. The Natchez Trace Parkway is a Federal ParkRoad a lot like the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as the type of road and some of the scenery. No high mountain views though like the B.R.P. The Trace begins in Natchez, Mississippi and ends about 450 miles later just south of Nashville, Tennessee in Franklin. I thought that the best riding parts are from the Mississippi/Alabama State line north to Nashville. The southern part is beautiful, but relatively flat. This road has a lot of history. Apparently early pioneers would float their goods down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to Natchez Mississippi where they would sell their stuff. They even sold the lumber from the boats they made to get their wares there. They then would hike back to Nashville, Tennessee. This trail or trace was used for many, many years. The remnants of it are still visible. You can walk parts of it still today. Along the way, there are ancient Indian Burial Mounds and a whole ton on of history. There are lots of pull offs, bathrooms and a very well maintained road. We began our trip in mid April at the Comfort Inns Suites, located on the river across the Mississippi River from Natchez in Vidalia, Louisiana. it a very nice and relatively new motel. Videlia is about 150 miles from New Orleans. We left from there for the 2 day trip to Nashville. The speed limit on the Parkway is 50 mph on most parts and slower on some others. It’s enforced too. There are lots of park rangers on it. It rained the entire first day of our trip, however it was a light rain and the scenery was beautiful. We saw deer, lot's of turkeys and buzzards. No bears though, darn! Plan your route for gas stops. To get gas, you have to leave the Parkway. While some gas stops may be really close to the Parkway, other may be some distance away. We stopped for the night in Starkville, Mississippi, home of MSU. That was a good halfway point. Lot of motels, restaurants, stores etc.... in case you need something. The next day was clear and sunny, but not very warm. We had packed lunches the first day and thought we could finish it and just do a late lunch at the end. We took a break at the Tennessee side of the Tennessee River Bridge. There's a really nice pull off with bathrooms there and more great scenery. It took us longer to do the ride than we’d figured so it was about 3 pm when we exited the Trace. I would suggest you pack lunches each day you plan on being on it. At the end of the Parkway, we found the Loveless Café (Diner to the stars). We ate there. I think every country singer etc in world has eaten there. There are gift shops etc ... there. The food was ok but not great. The prices were pretty reasonable though. This was one “way kool” ride and is well worth doing. You might be able to do it in 1 day but you'd be missing everything. Plan on 2 for sure. Thanks Eck. Steve
  7. Has anyone found a harmless, yet effective manner in which to remove the darn sticker they put on the gas tank that says read the manual, wear a helmet, and good luck getting this off??? I am anti-tank damage when it comes to getting this thing off. I cannot believe in this day and age of static stickers and technology that they would not have a better way. Any and all advice is welcome!

    Recycle Bin

The thought for the day - - If you delete your Recycle Bin - - - Where does it go?
  9. Well got started on her late, due to Artic trip and freighter generator overhauls, but I finally got into the tranny on Sat 29 Mar 08, and turned the key and test rode her Wed 09 Apr 08. All told the job took me 43 hours, split into 7 days of actually in the garage. Spent some time waiting for parts, 5 days for a bearing retainer clip screw. Broke when taking it out, and ordered replacement, actually still haven't got it yet. After 3 days I went to a Nut and Bolt supplier we deal with through work and purchased 3 new, allen wrench instead of philips head, flat heads. Much nicer than the originals, and way easier to torque in, no impact driver. The last day was a bugger, after all the sweat and grief getting the drivers floor boards installed, terminating the brake and shifter linkages, when I took her for the test ride, I'd put the shifter linkage clamp on 180 degrees out, so she was shifting 1 up, and 4 down, LOL, well it was 0300 in the morning. Flipped it the next afternoon, and took her out for another run, much better. All in all I'm glad I tackled it, got to know my ride very intimately, and the cost savings over having a shop do it were huge. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is not confident in there mechanical abilities to tackle it alone. The only help I had was the day I pulled the engine out, and a couple hours help the day I put it back in, all the rest was solo, just me and the ride in the garage. I would offer my help to any members in my area who ever try and tackle this one though. Having someone who's done it would definately make life a lot easier. See you on the black top. Ozzie:cool10:
  10. I've seen a lot of you mention that you will be coming to Maintenance day but many of you have not signed up on the calendar. Please do so. It really helps me to determine how much food I'm going to need. This link will take you right to the calendar page where you can register. Even if you are a "maybe".....let me know. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=73&day=2008-6-7&c=1

    No Demos To Ride (Arghhh)

Is this something new in the industry ? I went to 2 different Yamaha dealerships to hopefully test drive an RSV, and they had absolutely none in the showroom, however, there were 2 being held at their warehouse. Last new bike I bought (1999) the dealer handed me a set of keys and said "have fun". I actually bought the bike after the test drive. I don't think I'd buy a bike unless I could test drive it first, maybe I'm a minority in that aspect. Maybe I never will get my RSV. Oh well, that's my rant for the day. Ya'll have a nice day and ride safe. -Dean-
  12. in 3 days, it's only 2 months til .................... MAINTENANCE DAY!!!

  14. Economy forecasters are like weather men they seldom get it right.I know one thing keeping the family budget afloat is getting harder to do.These waves of recession are getting high and some say a depression is just off the port bow.Now some joker just said the stock market will hit 16000 by years end and it's smooth sailing. My bills are still paid on time and I put more trust in my computers 100 day budget forecast then anything but prices just keep going up.My kids are having it worse with the oldest daughter fighting to stay in college with two mouths to feed and the future son-n-law currently between jobs. We meet a man the other day who was building a new 4 bedroom log house for his wife. She left him and now he lives all alone. The house is almost finished but he lost his desire to complete it.He has chose to live life as a hermit. He has no electricity, running water, telephone, etc. He says he is debt free and just decided to live with no monthly bills. You might say he is permanently camped out along the river bank. Once in a while someone will stop by with some news of whats happening in the world. This brings a whole new meaning to still having room in the budget for a few more cuts.
  15. .... and buy the Second Gen I just posted in the classifieds. Great bike and I'm really going to miss it, but there aren't enough hours in the day anymore. I would love to see Yammer Dan pick it up, but I know he can't handle that kind of power ! !
  16. 17. ebay scammer; Sunrise Beach, MO, E- bay listing I went to see this scoot, IMHO it was junk with a nice paint job. I would'nt have given him what he claimed to have paid for it. I was gone all day. but since we went so far we had to make our own little adventure. It was still a good day! I wanted to get this out there because he mentioned having a call from an interested party from Canada, so If that's one of our members, let it alone! I'll give details, in the PM. I'm going to bed, Leeway
  18. Spring is in the air and riding season is here ( at least in South Texas ). Last week the wife and I went up to Wimberly for a day trip. Round trip we put about 500 miles on the bike. The trip up was fine but the ride back I started getting sore. Even a 2 hour stop in San Antonio for dinner on the river walk didn't offer any real relief. Wifey did't complain much because all she had to do was sit there and look pretty. Which brings us to the meat and pataos of this thread... I' considering an aftermarket seat. I had a '01 Roadstar and I put a Mustang seat on it. It greatly improved the comfort. Turned the bike from a 45 mile a day ride to a 300 mile a day ride. However, Mustang does not make a seat for my Venture. You would think that they would considering the popularity of this bike. So that limits me. I'm thinking Corbin, but I've never had one before. If any one has any experience with them please let me know.
  19. -7C, 19F, another stellar riding day in an Ontarian spring. And I wasn't alone--I was sitting in the coffee shop in Alliston and watched some other die-hard riding by. Rip

    Helen and Back

Was going with my wife to meet STEVE WAGNER yesterday to purchase one of his radiator covers for the 06 Venture. By the time we got out of Chattanooga, there was 8 bikes riding with us. It was a great day, cool early then warm later in the day. We were late as usual due to all the stops alone the way, but Steve was great at being patient waiting for us. The grill is well worth the purchase and fits and looks great on the bike. Hes a good man to do business with. Got a call from 86er alone the way to meet him there, but could not hook-up. Your number did not show upon my phone and I could not call you back, lets try in again. Lots of bikes in Helen and all alone the road. All in all it was a great ride.:cool10:
  22. i don't really know where to start this, so i'll just post the particulars, and field questions as they arise. on MAY 3, 2008, a group of local sponsors, are going to be bringing about 200, "wounded warriors", down from "BROOKS ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, in san antonio. these guys are all wounded COMBAT veterans, who are in the processes of healing. they will be treated to a day of fishing and visiting at PORT O'CONNOR, TEXAS. they will be coming down by bus, and escorted EVERY inch of the way, by local leo's and pgr riders. EVERYONE is invited to come down and show their support. just pick out one of these "broken warriors",and spend the day "just being there for him/her". or visit with ALL of them. their immediate families, are often hundreds of miles away, and they have nothing to do but sit around BAMC, and recover. our south texas P.G.R , guys will be there to do what ever we can to make this happen , and be a success. . disclaimer: if i have offended anyone , with this post, let me apologize now, and be done with it. just jt.
  23. Well today was the 1st time I've been able to get out and ride this year. There have been good days, but life always seemed to get in the way. Took a day off work which was nice because there was not as much traffic in the day time. In getting ready last night I was surprised to find that the tires and shocks were still exactly were they were supposed to be. 1st time I think that has ever happened. The other thing that I found was that all the windshield bolts under the chrome piece were severely loose. I think when I put the new shield on I babied them a little too much to ensure I didn't crack the mounting tabs on the shield. I also got to try out my new J&M headset. Was going to just use the mic on my 1/2 helmet to move away from the hand held mic I've been using. I just couldn't bring myself to cut off perfectly good speakers for the 1/2 helmet, so I went back to my open face. I will have to say I really liked the sound, but it will take some getting used to for the tightness around my ears. All I can say is I feel like a new man:thumbsup: I hope Spring keeps working its way here.
  24. Thought some of you may find this interesting: This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see for the rest of our lives. And only if you are 95 or older have you ever seen it this early before. Easter can only occur one day earlier than it will this year, but that is very rare. The next time Easter will be as early as it is this year (March 23) is in the year 2228, or 220 years from now! The last time it was this early was 1913. The next time Easter will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in 2285, or 277 years from now! The last time it was that early was in 1818. The formula for the date of Easter is the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the first day of Spring. This year, the first day of Spring is on Thursday and the full moon is on Friday and then Sunday is Easter. I was trying to post this earlier, but it took a little while to figure all this up. RandyA
