  1. I plan on doing the gauge install. Which is more usefull...amp or volt ? I have installed : 2006 Stratoliner driving lights ( 4 bulds) Zumo 550 Larger horns Extra brake lights Piaa Extreme headlight bulb XM radio upgraged stator Buckeye thanks Cb
  2. This is probabply a dumb question but here goes: I just purchased a new battery yesterday and the parts guys say to charge it before I put in service. My question is can I use a 10 amp charger or do I need a 2 amp slower charge?
  3. So I'm going to install 4 new Polk DB401 speakers should I and can I add a power amp to make them sound better?
  4. Oooh soon.. oh so soon.. I'll be moving into my new insulated 24x24 floor heated garage.. Someone had mentioned I shouldn't park the bike with the tires on the bare concrete floor as it may 'leech' the compounds out of the tires??? Once the builders have the mudding done on the drywall and the rest of the 20 amp services are connected, it's just a paint job and building a work bench to keep me busy this winter.. AHHHHHHHhhhh
  5. 1" the best I can tell. Is this correct ? Thinking about adding some speakers and an amp for my tunes. I do not like the ear phones. Thanks any and everyone.... James
  6. Seen this on another forum and thought some of you might be interested. Here is the link http://www.crutchfield.com/p_204YAMAMK/Bazooka-MC-YAM-AMK-Amplifier-Kit.html?tp=139
  7. Hello all, I've mounted a set of Pyle speakers, USB charging port, MP3 shelf, and volume control along with 2 RAM handlebar mounts (pics to follow) and have all of the wiring run back to install the 300 watt amp and USB charging port to power. I don't want either the amp or the USB charger to operate with the bike off - neither have "off" switches - and I'm looking for the best place to tap into the electrics. There is a white plug behind the battery with black and brown with gray stripe wires. I've not yet broken out a multi meter but I'm hoping these will supply hot & ground for a tap. If someone could confirm this (and to what amp fuse it goes to) I would be grateful. If there are any other places to tap in I would appreciate knowing where and what color, pix a huge plus. For my "always hot" connections I use a powerlet tap direct to battery so I have that covered.
  8. So you don't have to read all my problems my thoughts on the bazooka amp and speakers and the 6" amplified sub. The speakers by themselves don't sound good at all without the amp and with the amp they need the sub to have some bass. And the system will run down your battery ,need to put on trickle charge if you aren't going to ride except on the weekends, (How do I know? I was going to ride a few min ago and my 3 week old 130.00 gel battery wouldn't crank my bike. so here I am typing while it charges instead of riding) It was fine the first 2 weeks since I rode the bike every few days but last week I didn't crank it Let me first say bazooka's customer service is very good, that being said here is the problems I had , for starters I was going to knock this out in 1 or 2 days and ride that weekend but,got everything took apart run the wiring harness ( dind't get the fuse size called the tech. told me it was a 7.5 amp fuse) installed the amp,and speakers (one of which the surround was glued out of round) per instructions started to hook up the speakers and the terminals on the wiring harness were wrong (for a goldwing) so I changed them to the correct size blade to hook into the factory connectors then turned on the switch only to hear my new speakers sound like they were under water, and not loud as factory , anyway found out one speaker wasn't working traced down that where bazooka spliced the extension on one of the wires was not making a connection thought good now lets hear the music . Then come to find out my amp was bad blowed the 7.5 amp fuse each time I put the fuse in, called bazooka and told them my problems with the amp, speaker, and wiring tried the tech's fixes and they didn't work so emailed them they said the would fed ex'd me new ones. In the meantime I thought I would just hook up the bazooka speakers to the factory system , the factory speakers were louder and sounded better, so after a week of waiting redone everything (and this time got a 30 amp fuse) sounded ok but still a little distorted so I put the bass tube in the trunk and connected it to the amp and it had no bass so back to the email machine was told by the tech that had a reverse polarity on a speaker come to figure out they reversed a wire making the splices ,well fixed that, got bass, closed the trunk and couldn't hear it drilled a hole in the bottom above the cb to let air in and out made it a little better but still not good so butchered up the trunk somemore now it sounds ok setting still and is a little better riding and it still distorts @ full volume still tinkering with that
  9. I'm sure some of you guys have already figured this out but for some this may be interesting. I never listen to the radio. I always listen to my MP3 player. On our last big ride we had 12 bikes and most of them had load pipes. Going though Atlanta we also had the noise of 18 wheelers and cars. I had my MP3 player turned all the way up and the volume on the AUX pegged at 30. Yes I was getting distortion but it was the only way I could hear my MP3 player. The next day I was going through my junk and I noticed a old battery powered MP3/IPOD amplifier. I connected it to my MP3 player and turned the amp on and wow what a difference the amp made. I have Polk db401 speakers in the front and stock speakers in the rear. After a few minutes of listening to my music and trying the volume out my son pops his head into the garage and tells me my wife said to turn the volume down. Ok well I will take my Venture down the intersate and test her out. Without turning the volume up on the MP3 player and with the volume set at 20 on AUX the MP3 player was load and clear all the way up to 100 mph. WOOOHOOO!!!! Cheap fix. Now this amp doesn't do anything for the radio or cb but I hardly ever use either one of those anyway but for the MP3/IPOD it is great, cheap and easy to use. Harry:sign woo hoo:
  10. I need some expert advise on amps and AMH Rating.. I want to use a winch thats says not to use a battery with less 12 AMHTo run it.. Now I have the Pyramid regulated power supply that has a constant 12 AMP Rating. So will this run that Winch? Hope this makes since *lol* Thanks, Jeff
  11. does anybody have the bazooka amp and speakers, model mc-yam-ak4,installed on thier bike, and if so how do you like it and have you had any problems? was the install easy?

  13. Need some electrical help here. I just replaced the 14 - 5 watt wedge bulbs in my lower light bar. So my questions are and am I correct in the following: 1) Amp draw for the 14 X 5 watt incandescent bulbs I removed was: 14 X 5 wts ea = 70 wts divided by 12 volts = 5.83 amps and 2) Amp draw for the 14 LED wedge bulbs I just installed is: 14 X .026 amps at 12 volts = .364 amps Therefore; reducing the load by some 5.46 amps. I also replaced both the stock 1157s in the taillight with LEDs purchased from "superbrightleds.com" and believe me, they ARE brighter. I then tied in the light bars into the taillight wiring in order to increase the load on that circuit. This seems to have eliminated the "warning" light on the dash from thinking a taillight bulb was blown. So what they come on together. Now whenever the brake light circuit is activated, the amp gauge doesn't drop at all and I have more even more visibility at all times. I used to be concerned watching the amp gauge drop significantly while sitting at a light for extended periods of time holding the brakes on. Are my above calculations correct or am I way out there in left field? Perhaps somebody more inclined than I can advise. Thank y'all
  14. Where is the fuse located at for the 12volt accessary plug on the left inside fairing? Also what amp is the fuse?
  15. not bike related. on Friday, last, i went into town to run a errand. i looked down at my "amp gauge", and it was pegged out(20 to 22 amps). i stopped a "bato zone" and ordered a new alternator. it came in Sat. i installed it the same day. so far, it ain't charged a single amp. question is, does anyone know if Ford, installed an inline fusible link, or circuit breaker, or something, that would not allow the system to charge? it's in a 92 aerostar. any input would be appreciated. just jt
  16. Would anyone have an amp in non working condition laying around,I've traced some problems down to the wiring harness on the smaller of the 2 multi-pin connectors that the radio plugs into.I think my audio and cb will work fine if I replace that harness. Arthur
  17. my 84 venture did not come with original stereo, but i recently bought one but it did not come with the wiring harness to hook up the speakers and power. can someone tell me where to get one or show me what wires do what? the plug coming off the amp has 9 contacts in a 4-1-4 pattern. this radio is from an 83. i have checked the yamaha parts fiche and the radios are the same for both. thanks
  18. R LOUD Mounted 2 of them. 1 Chrome on the outside and had one under the bike mounted to where the AIS was. Now its loud enough to scare me and I'm expecting it cause I am the one that pushadabutton. Using 1 30 amp relay and a 20 amp fuse. 12 gauge wire feeding the relay and 2 14 gauges coming off the relay feeding the horns.
  19. I am sure this has been discussed many times but I am new here and was getting cross eyed looking at all the posts. I would like to upgrade the quality of my sound system on the 04 venture. I have put some barons pipes on and obviously it hurt the stereo sound. I tried to use chatter box systems but they are terrible! I have read on the star web site about the speaker upgrades but I was wondering is it possible to add an amp as well. Any help would be much appreciated, I love this bike, I have had it almost two years and would have another in a heart beat. Sites like these are excellent thanks in advance. Java
  20. Greetings... Anyone ever dissasemble the power Amp on a 1st gen? I've seen a lot of people complaining that the left channel cuts out intermittantly, and mine has been doing it since I got the bike. It's NOT a wiring or ground problem - AFTER the amp. I've isolated, at least MY problem to, at least the amp. (New speaker and ALL new wire hooked up directly.) I've noticed that it's failure is consistent with tempurature change. On cool days, or cool nights - it cuts off and pretty much stays off, or if it's on, it's affected by bumps. During really hot days - it will pretty much stay on all day and NOT be affected by bumps in the road. Unless I park in the shade! When it cuts out - I can frequently turn the radio off and on restoring it. Where it will usually then cut out (when I'm in the shade!)after a few seconds or minutes. That tells me that it's probably a cracked solder on the left channel speaker output. The intercom output is unaffected. I've already cleaned and shimmed the blue interface connectors, cleaned all connectors, and tried a hard wired connection bypassing the wiring harness... Before I tear it all out and dissasemble it to trace the line - I was wondering if this was a known problem, or if anyone else has already figured out a common failure point...
  21. Anyone have the speaker wiring diagram showing the stock amp? I'm having the cutting out issue after adding an amp. Someone had mentioned they'd had issues with the stock amp doing that when it was turned up too high. Anyone have a schematic so I can find the stock amp and bypass it for my amp in the cassette door?
  22. I haven't been riding for a while and my battery is dead. I have a two amp trickle charger, a long with a 10 and 15 amp charger. Can i use the 10 or 15 amp to charge my battery, or should i use the trickle charger? In the past i've jumpted started from a car battery with no damage. Thanx Bob
  23. Who else cut the cassette for the amp? Where did you tap into the speaker wiring?
  24. It's been a busy couple of weeks. Sent the seats off to Spencer to be reworked. Haven't had a chance to ride them to see if it cured my ills. Added driving lights to the fender, slipped the forks an inch, put the smaller Clearview tinted with vent on, and did the amp for the cassette mod. Couple of questions; On the amp mod it seems like I'm topping out and distorting way to quick. I'd say I'm tapped in after the stock amp. Anyone got the wiring schematic to bypass the stock amp? Using risers; the rubber stoppers no longer work for the fairing and it shakes. How have you dealt with this to fix it? I have slashcut pipes to put on, but I'd ordered the wide chrome clamps to put them on with and for the life of me can't find them. I have the box they came in, remember looking at them, and they've vanished...

    Sound system.

has anyone ever installed an EQ on there bike thats not powered,,the Pryamid 403G that Freebird installed has a 100 watt amp built into it,what i need is info on an install on a passive EQ ( no power ) that i can use to run the system with a external amp , much like a system in a car ,,I have Polk audio EX2540 Component speakers front and rear,,alpine 4 ch amp,,and a bazooke 8" tube ,,channels 1 and 2 on the amp are powering the front and rear speakers and channels 3 and 4 on the amp are bridged to power the tube sounds really great,,,but there's no way to EQ the sound to make it sound awesome ,,,,
